See, I thought they were heading somewhere with Miguel telling Miles the spider wasn't meant for him. Like, maybe Miles believes he can be the one to not lose the officer friend/family member because he's not actually a "real" Spiderman. The original Peter Parker from that setting (presumably) already had all his canon events. But even with the extra, like, 25 minutes of movie after this, no character ever even brings up that possibility. Screencap this and open it next year when this is absolutely the route they take to give Miles a happy ending.

The only way I could see them keep Miguel being right about Canon events being a thing and Miles still gets to save his dad without getting everyone killed is if he somehow manages to return his powers back to the universe that was supposed to get them and him no longer being Spiderman means his father no longer has to be killed so he can save him with no repercussions.
gwen's universe didn't collapse when her father quit being a captain. it's over for us miguel bros.
Was it wrong if I was rooting for Miguel to win the entire time? Not only is he cooler and more interesting but he's objectively in the right to stop Miles from getting everyone killed to save his father (who'd immediately die after being saved due to the multiverse collapsing)
That messes with the origin story and could affect other things. I think they even talk about like how in other universes of Uncle Ben didn't die then Spiderman wouldn't have become who he is or something like that. It's not technically time travel but it's basically the same because he's changing the timeline.
Also SOMEBODY has to become Captain so it's kind of a dick move to whoever gets the promotion instead
