I’ll be honest, I’d recommend Porco before TWR. I liked the flying in it more and personally prefer his more whimsical works. TWR is beautiful but I found it to be too conservative visually and stylistically. Honestly felt more like a goro movie than a hayao

it does not drag.
Nah, I'm neither and I read more books than either of you. This is just a movie that could have done with a focusing of the plot. Mononoke has some of the best symbolism and visuals of ghibli, but I can enjoy that without defending the fourty plus minutes of fuedal villager struggles that added little to the emotional weight and message of the film. Like it said, it dragged.

what the heck does that have to do with anything?
Didn’t see it until far too late and probably wouldn’t have really appreciated it as a kid anyway. My first was mononoke (I’m not OP) and that’s a tough one to follow.
I initially wasn't a big fan on account of the lower budget animation and music compared to later films, but rewatching it I gained a newfound appreciation for the (what seems to be) heavy Moebius influence in the art direction and designs. Reading the manga made me like the movie more too. The art is gorgeous and the film only covers about a third of the full plot, I highly recommend it.
Tangentially related, but if any anons are fans of Moebius' work then check out the OVA Dragon's Heaven. The storytelling and characterization are thin at best but it's short and the animation is gorgeous.

If you like this you'll love Oshi no Ko. (I'm not even the guy who has been spamming it everywhere, it just felt empty in here without his ritual post.)
yup
My favorite Ghibli
mine is whisper of the heart but this is my favorite miyazaki
Man of culture
Mine, too.
If you guys haven't seen "The Wind Rises," that's a great film, too.

Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa are my favorites. They have more mature themes and very epic feel, and great music.
I just wish Miyazaki could have made ONE more like them in the 2010's/2020's before he was done.
He wrote a manga that was almost a perfect middle ground between the two back in the 80s. Would have been perfect to adapt.
my one regret is how much of nausicaa was left unadapted
this movie has so much soul
i would've loved one more ashitaka fight scene tho
it always catches me by surprise when he knocks out san and eboshi
It's always funny when people says that miyazaki is a feminist, when ashitaka is literally a wife beater.
that shirt looks ghey
This and Howl's moving Castle are my favorite Ghibli movies.
howl's moving castle is a perfect girl movie
For me it's Mononoke followed by Porco Rosso
It’s alright. Has a slow start
the start is great what are you talking about
Ponyo or spirited would be better on a big screen. Princess is 45 minutes too long.
Spirited Away is far and away the most overrated Ghibli film and is only considered the best because it won the oscar.
Nope its actually just the best
how can it be his best when mononoke is his best
easily his best film
If you’re 20 and it was your first maybe.
Mononoke is 40 minutes too long. It drags.

No, you don’t
it does not drag.
This movie and the one about the witch girl always play on the weekends at my local theater for some reason
I love this movie. The music is so good especially during the part when he first leaves his village.
Are cramped Japanese apartments really this comfy, or it just that way in anime?
i lived like this for 11years while piling up enough cash for a house. first ten years was quite zen, by the 11th year i was ready to kms
>how do you live is now called the boy and the heron in america
wtf is a heron?
For me, its LAPUTA
best worldbuilding but name is too chuckle inducing
i saw laputa last month in theatres and im seeing mononoke tonight!! wish me luck!!
The wind rises is my favorite
havent seen it yet but i want to
I love the part when Ashitaka actually goes for full serious.
thats a really great part. my favorite part is when she spits the blood out
>not when she's sleeping like a qt
reminder she did nothing wrong. what animals are b***hing about is called PROGRESS, baby.
eboshi makes the film
thats also a great part
why no love for Totoro, ghiblibros? fills my cynical heart with childlike wonder
Maybe I'm dead inside but I just found it boring

OP here. My first was spirited away. I like that one less as time goes on.
I only really love the train traveling in the emptiness in it. Such an iconic picture.
Great sequence, I just like the film less and less overall.
why this mf wearing a shirtless sleeves
needs light sleeves for archery
käärijä reference
why
Cause they played it in the cinema and I like it and I like going to the cinema so I went to go see it in the cinema
when is this coming out in digital?
Also, YOU should check out Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro.
One of his best, Mononoke is my favorite but I also love Porco Rosso too.
The scene where the god gets killed is utter kino but i cant find it on israelitetube
The deer god is so freaky looking
The first time I saw the movie was back in 2006 when they showed it on Cartoon Network and the deer god ended up giving me nightmares
Is Miyazaki a pedophile? Ephebophile?
No just a cinephile
Hmm
im an eboshiphile
Go see a doctor asap
you dont love lady eboshi?
Eboshi is my doctor.
This b***h is presents the perfect example of the horrors of Judeo-Feminism.
any nausicaa chads here?
havent seen it yet but its on my list
It’s fricking kino. Well worth the hype, maybe even exceeds it.
Love the fully armoured knights with ak's
Great post apoc world as well

if you like moebius and nausicaa you should play Panzer Dragoon Zwei
I really want to play Zwei and Saga, but as it stands I've only played Orta.
Still fantastic though. Beautiful game indeed.
hit or miss music
Princess Monoke was like don't pave the rainforest.
