Can anyone suggest me some 'serious' kdrama? Strong writing/themes and acting - no wish fulfillment copy/paste main characters and all the other meme shit.
Give me some real food, what's the S tier unmissable kinos of kdrama and why do you think it's the apex?

My Liberation Notes because I know her feels.
yeah I'll give you that but he ran his mouth too much and a frick up so he didn't endear himself to me. He was funny at times.
But the desperation of the older sister and she knew she was crazy. So the guy liking her back was a win. I didn't give a damn about the alcoholic and melancholic. The dreaded white truck could run them over and the show better.
>Stranger/Forest of Secrets
is probably the most well-known series in that vein. This
this kino
is also a good serious show. I've been watching their revenge movies for way longer than K-dramas and I'd say these action/crime thrillers are a good entry point since they're more grounded than most other shows: >The Worst of Evil >Watcher 2019 >Confession 2019

The only interest in dramas is to see pretty Korean girls being carried on their backs after a binge on Soju, far from Western sexualization.
The only current problem with dramas is romances that are becoming Westernized
The only dramas I've seen with Shin Hye Sun are Angel Last Mission, Thirty but Seventeen and See You in My 19th Life, she's not a prostitute in these 3 dramas anyway. I imagine you watched a recent Netflix drama? Netflix dramas have tended in recent years to give our actresses the roles of prostitutes idk why (da jooz)
prostitute doesn't necessarily mean being one in the literal sense, just having Western manners is being a prostitute. And that's what most recent Netflix romances are. So I don't think he's schyzo, because that's what I notice too.

May I Help You. Surprisingly an Amazon original. I liked better though I did like Angels Final Mission. It was a bit different with a young woman mortician that gave the dead closure.
>Surprisingly an Amazon original
It's MBC (normal terrestrial TV station), Amazon just has overseas broadcasting rights. Much like Netflix often does, they like to slap "Amazon Original" on things they didn't actually produce

it's entertaining, i'm halfway through and it got a few laughs out of me, which is very rare for kdramas. Heavily inspired by the spanish movie The Platform, but in typical heavy handed korean style you won't miss any allegory, they'll hammer you on the head with it. Love the stupid and useless MC, refreshing to have an idiot as your point of view
Speaking of prostitutes, there is a new drama with Pyo Ye Jin, who I loved in Moon In The Day and there is a new drama "Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale" but looking at the trailer, that looks seems like a bawd drama, it annoys me. Whether it's KPOP or KDRAMA, they all become prostitutes, as if it were the logical evolution of things, Korea is too Americanized
Ok, I'll continue then. I dropped it because it was a little too much drama for teenagers, although I love school dramas (School 2015, 2017, Repply 1997 ect) but here it was a little drama or I felt that the audience was too targeted on young Western teenagers who fantasize about their favorite male idol, especially the excessively positive notes, this is generally a very bad sign because on MDL they are all women and therefore prostitutes.
so I didn't feel concerned but I really liked the scene you posted, I think I'll continue then.
I love Little Women, moronic constant plot twists should be the norm in Kdrama, if I'm investing time in your shit then the least you can do is entertain me and surprise me, not copy/paste the same amnesia childhood trauma love triangle for the 500th times
Everything was going well until ep 10 or 11 when they show the bad guy watching his election victory and then it suddenly cuts to a news report of him jumping off a building. It was really jarring tbh >Uhh boss we're going over an hour for this episode >Ah frick it, we'll explain it next episode.CLIFFHANGER

Oh and my wife job is a love expert consultant so the news would ruin my wife business.
kek, that was the last time it happened to me, it's been pretty smooth sailing comfy threads since then, aside from the few autists who just get mad in general about people talking about things they enjoy, or start foaming at the mouth when they see the netflix logo.
The last thing I watched was chicken nugget. I didn't even watch the last ep. Should I? Whens asiaticshin Crature Pt 2 coming back? Sometime soon, yeah? Also.. was Coffee Prince that good? I loved it when I was 12. I wanna rewatch.
Thank you both. I appreciate you responding to my turd post. I'm excited! My 91 year old Mexican grandmother got SUPER into that show, so I'm excited to watch and chat with her. She also adored Mask Girl, and Kingdom stuffs, Bloodhounds to a lesser extent, Strong Girl, etc. G Creature is by far her favorite tho! I wanna watch Coffee Prince again. She liked a romcom with a delivery driver on a scooter.. I watched it as well, but I forget the name. Tom boy girl. Fight to protect their block from gentrification. Something like that.
Yes!!! Famn. You're good. That shit was cozy af. Wish I lived where things like that happened. She said it reminded her of her days in Mexico a billion years ago.
Yes!!! Famn. You're good. That shit was cozy af. Wish I lived where things like that happened. She said it reminded her of her days in Mexico a billion years ago.
Damn*
She also said he looks like a Chinese Heath Ledger. (Unfortunately she calls all Asians Chinese, often.) He kinda does look like Korean Heath to me. Facial expressions and mannerisms, more than a likeness. Maybe we are nuts. Anyone else? I'm having a lot of fun watching kdrama with my slightly racist grandmother!
I recommend these recent ones if you have nothing to watch right now:
Ty sir! I'll check those out as soon as I'm off the job. I hope most are available on streaming services, as thats about all I can get her. She subscribes to a new one thru Amazon daily. Lol. Hard to keep up with her accidentsl purchases.
Woman also needs dubs. Eyes are too poor for subs rn.
Looking into these. Thanks for being so helpful. She also is a huge fan of unsolved mysteries, violence, death, murder, doctor G., w.e nutty American programs.
She loved I Saw The Devil. She kinda, surprisingly, very much liked Zombie For Sale.
>She loved I Saw The Devil.
That 91yo grandma is extremely based but somehow I doubt she exists. Makes up some more based facts about her please sister
Reposting my feedback on a frequent /kdg/ recommandation, please pretend to care by replying something along the lines of "but muh incest", "FL can't act" or even a "netflix is ruining kdrama and my life".
Finally finished with That Winter, the Wind Blows.
I loved it and rank it in my top 10.
It's surprising how well developed the two main characters are and how complex their love story is. I've quite never seen anything like it.
The show is really well shot and they keep the winter theme consistent throughout the show when I first thought it was just gonna be a gimmick.
The ML actor does the job, nothing outstanding, but the star here is Song Hye Kyo, she's not the best actress but she is very good at portraying broken people (cf. The Glory) and she's absolutely amazing in it, loved every second she's on screen.
The show has his load of bullshit though. The sidekick / best friend is absolutely useless and infuriating (how does he even live at the mansion? did the ML introduce him as his side-twink or his frick toy? never explained...), the evil step mother gets redeemed at the end for absolutely no reason (yeah ok she blinded a 6yo girl out of pure hatred, but she's not *that* bad ... wtf). Oh and there's this super cute gangster who has all the gangster skill in the world somehow yet do every moronic thing the script needs her to do in order to move the plot forward, but she's cute so that's ok.
I'm glad you liked it chef. I agree a lot of the side stuff is pretty bullshit, sadly the case with many kdramas, but the leads relationship builds really well.
>An attractive babysitter, who graduated from a prestigious university, begins to work as a babysitter for 3 children from a wealthy couple. The attractive babysitter begins to change

Any Korean bros here? How come dating older women is so common in Korea as a young man? Is Korea a true Matriarchy? Is the sex mind blowing and has the forbidden element to it?

Polaris will revolve around two spies who lost their identities and continuously worked to search for their true selves. >Jun Ji Hyun (My Sassy Girl, My Love from the Star, The Legend of the Blue Sea) >Kang Dong Won (Broker, Peninsula, Illang The Wolf Brigade)
Director Kim Hee Won (Vincenzo, Queen of Tears) and unhinged mommy writer Jung Seo Kyung (Mother, The Handmaiden) will work together to create the upcoming K-drama. The two previously worked together for the hit series Little Women (didn't know it was a hit but I'm copy pasting this from mdl so who knows)
He's going back to his roots
It doesn't seem to be attached to any channel/platform yet. It's being produced by IMAGINUS, a newer production company lead by the former head of Studio Dragon. Found an interview where they talked about specifically targeting Disney+ and Netflix for their "premium programming" so I imagine that's who they're aiming for here
cause he got injured a couple of times during Vagabond and he said never again I don't even know why they filmed the s2 hook knowing already he would refuse to do it

They could just get stuntmen to do all his scenes and 99% of fans won't care. Even Jackie Chan stopped doing his own stunts at some point

Wrong. The reason people liked Vagabond and people like Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves movies is that the actors do most of the stunts themselves. It makes the action look more realistic and brutal. It's whole reason a CW show like Arrow was popular.
It's not *the* best show out there but it's fairly decent and probably the best revenge porn you can watch. > what works
Bullying arc
General tone of the series
Realistic pace of revenge
Go theme > what doesn't work
Ass pull reveal at the end
Completely spurious love interest
The protagonist not realizing that her revenge will cause people to retaliate
Minor character arches that never go anywhere
I agree with most of this
in what works I'd add the main actress, which I found amazing at playing her zombie-like character, she's basically a ghost most of the time yet can conjure up some psychopathic craziness in an instant. big thumb up for her.
in what doesn't work I'd add the whole last episode, it seems rushed, recut, rewritten, reshot, I'm not the netflix tard but I'm gonna blame Netflix nonetheless. Literally nothing makes sense in this episode but the ml's mother popping out of nowhere on a random rooftoop to prevent at the last minute what would have been the logical conclusion of the show takes the cake
Just finished this. First 11-12 episodes really good, dragging after, the ending was good.
First time watching this actor as the only ML, he did great.
I felt the show was a little too manipulative, especially the music. I still finished it though so it was better than most shows I try to watch.
Where's Yu Ri's upcoming shows at? Can't see any on MDL, and discouting the guest appearance in Love to Hate You, her last main role was 2 years ago. Need more crazy woman kino
Watched the first half of Exhuma last night, I really like it so far. I wish more paranormal movies were like this, where the characters discuss technical reasons why a ritual might work or not, instead the usual wishy washy "its magic it just works" explanation. It's a nice hybrid between science and belief.
there is a huge Asian market for kdrama without needing any western viewers. Netflix, Disney and Amazon did it because they want profit. China is a HUGE market for kdrama. There existed already an asian streaming service Viki. Korean, Thai, Tawain, Hong Kong, Japanese and Chinese movies and drama series.
Is this any good? Historical revisionism aside, or so I've read. I haven't seen a lot of kdrama set in the 80s Korean War tbh. Recently watched Hunt (2022) and really liked it, seems like a kino time period for dramas
I confess I love me some Taiwanese dramas, endless cliche's and comically overdramatic
this one had me laughing to tears over the one "fight" scene in the first episode for the sheer ham factor, alongside some nostalgia for the flip phone era
I have very fond memories of those kinds of dramas. So goofy and silly.
Luckily China still churns out loads of them for whenever I want something giga cheesy
Don't you hate love triangle when 1 is obviously gonna lose?
Start up and school 2015 will make you mad then
The main romance in Shool 2015 was ass but the SML was an annoying homosexual that shit up every scene he was in
this one is what you are looking for , best melodrama of the post-covid era by far
>When I Was the Most Beautiful

also she created an instagram page for her teddy bear, how cute is that
Ok I fold. That's super cute indeed. She can wear the face she wants anyway, I'm sure she ordered that one because it's popular among korean.
She's a decent enough actress but the gangnam unnie face is uncanny. Smart casting for picrel though

Very fun show, reminiscent of 2010s romcoms. Over the top characters and fun storyline
wtf uncle samsik and the 8 released all the episodes in one go
netflix show, not kdrama. netflix dumps shows all at once.
Weird how all the best recent kdramas have all been Netflix shows
It's like the kdrama world was waiting for Netflix to bring it to the next level

My Liberation Notes because I know her feels.
Liberation Notes is slop don't get memed. There's only 1 interesting storyline (the brother) that takes up 5% of the screen time.
I hated Liberation Notes but thought the sister the only entertaining story line. She was such a mess and going to cut all her hair off.

It gets better.
It's chinese Speed with timeloops.
Is Angel's Final Mission worth watching or does the actress play a bawd again in this one?
couldn't finish first ep due to how cringy and badly written it was, but your mileage may wary
actress played a cold heartless character
*a bawd in like Welcome to Samdal-ri
You want a bawd tier FL. Try Love To Hate You
You'll see the slow destruction of a confident man as he becomes a whimpering simp.
Spoiler Alert. The FL is a hero for women in the show
I liked it. She's just a b***hy character here
I would recommend see you in my 19th life instead
I thought it was kind of boring and I started to hate it when the other "fallen" angel shows up
just listen this ost

hello, based department?
Ok cuck
the only drama I remember dropping due to being too "western" was Love to Hate You, it's a Netflix production. Something about it really annoyed me
I agree. The FL boast of her body count and is a hero to women. Her logic for banging all the men is disturbing at best. Worth watching
Her character in Welcome to Samdal-ri got run through by several men
I found the interaction between the main leads very cute and endearing, their chemistry basically carried the show.

The story gets better when she time travels to her 20s and ML slowly figures out the time travelling.
Ok, I'll continue then. older female/younger male is the best

I feel that older female young male, or rich female poor male tend to be a bit better written and developed. the other way around is much more common, and especially with the rich male heir/ceo with the poor woman, they're much more lazy with going into repeated kdrama tropes and obvious wish fulfilment for women wanting a rich/powerful fantasy man to sweep them off their feet.

Also, I like that actress and she was excellent in the 8 show but holy those fake teeth... how can those girls have so little self awareness?
Is there romance?
yes unnie tons of it
I dont like shows without romance, so not gonna watch this
We know sister, it's Ok.
You're featured in the show as one of the main character btw

The whole show is a constant streams of romantic moments.

Sounds like dollar store squid game
It's nothing like Squid Game. As I said, it's a korean version of The Platform.
really surprised Cinemaphile hasn't freaked out more about a constantly up kdrama general
it was deleted for the first few weeks. then new janny accepted it.
troony jannies were banning people for starting kthreads
kek, that was the last time it happened to me, it's been pretty smooth sailing comfy threads since then, aside from the few autists who just get mad in general about people talking about things they enjoy, or start foaming at the mouth when they see the netflix logo.
He/she banned me for several weeks at one point. Glad it seems like they've gotten some help.
The last thing I watched was chicken nugget. I didn't even watch the last ep. Should I? Whens asiaticshin Crature Pt 2 coming back? Sometime soon, yeah? Also.. was Coffee Prince that good? I loved it when I was 12. I wanna rewatch.
Gyeongseong Creature S2 will be on next season.
Something like that.
>romcom with a delivery driver on a scooter
Strongest Deliveryman maybe?
Yes!!!
I recommend these recent ones if you have nothing to watch right now:
QoT would have been GOAT without the
>stupid psycho yandere
subplot. The takeover was kinda eh but I liked the families bonding in his hometown.
the villains were the weakest part of the story

Song Hye Kyo has this classic, elegant and old-fashioned beauty. she's the Ava Gardner of kdramas
added to my watch list. its gonna be my third fake incest drama.
I'm glad you liked it chef. I agree a lot of the side stuff is pretty bullshit, sadly the case with many kdramas, but the leads relationship builds really well.
I hate 12 and 8 episode dramas. Just make them 15 episodes ffs
pervert bros...
This was nice.
Even better when you've seen her We Got Married episodes.
Fluffy is my new favorite tag. Weird that most of the series with that tag are Cdrama.
>Phoenix 2020
Why is the score so low?
It's a 120 episode makjang daily drama, a true soap opera. They are almost never of decent quality
i watched the original 2004 because of the love square tag and was forgettable but not super bad. i rated 7
lmao the male lead quit because of the bullshit writting
Any good series with spoiled rich girl + trouble/brooding/poor male lead?

Only 4 episodes. Must be good then
>“Fleeting Echoes”
In the bustling heart of Seoul, Dr. Yoo Ji-hyun, a brilliant physicist, stumbles upon a mysterious antique pocket watch. Little does she know that this seemingly ordinary timepiece holds the power to transport her across centuries. When Ji-hyun accidentally activates the watch, she finds herself hurtling back to the Joseon era, a time of political intrigue, forbidden love, and hidden secrets.
Ji-hyun meets two men who will forever alter her destiny. The first is Lee Min-woo, a charismatic nobleman with a penchant for rebellion against the oppressive regime. The second is Kang Joon-ho, a loyal palace guard who harbors a secret longing for freedom. As Ji-hyun grapples with her newfound ability to traverse time, she becomes entangled in their lives.
Ji-hyun’s heart wavers between Min-woo and Joon-ho. Min-woo’s rebellious spirit draws her in, and their clandestine meetings ignite a passionate romance. But Joon-ho’s unwavering loyalty and protective nature also stir her emotions. Caught in a web of love and duty, Ji-hyun must navigate the complexities of her heart as she shuttles between past and present.
Ji-hyun faces a choice that transcends time itself. Will she rewrite history, sacrificing her love for the greater good? Or will she defy destiny, forging a new path that defies logic and reason? “Fleeting Echoes” explores the timeless question: Can love truly conquer all, even across centuries?
Note: “Fleeting Echoes” weaves together romance, suspense, and the enigma of time travel, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats as they root for Ji-hyun’s heart to find its true home

in the near future, AI models will not only generate such synopsis but also beam the full 16 x 75 minutes episodes directly into our brains.
sounds amazing. release date? mdl link?
Currently watching Doona!
Any more romance K-Dramas with a male main character?
barely afaik.
There's My Girlfriend is a Gumiho though if you can tolerate the cheesiness and the soap-like camera work
>Any more romance K-Dramas with a male main character?
wtf is a male main character? like a non-twink?
Noona gfs are superior.
Any Korean bros here? How come dating older women is so common in Korea as a young man? Is Korea a true Matriarchy? Is the sex mind blowing and has the forbidden element to it?
I loved her in alchemy of souls, tempted to rewatch it even though I've got an endless list of other shit to dig into.
>How come dating older women is so common in Korea
Is it? Never seen much depictions or hinting of it anywhere.
Its not. Its a taboo so dramas are trying to create angst. Now an older Korean woman can go to a host bar and be entertained by a young man.
you too stupid cuck Black person
tfw no QT Korean gf to call me oppa.
tfw no QT Korean gf to call jagiya.
tfw Suzy laughing when she sees my tiny, magnum sized Korean wiener.

Polaris will revolve around two spies who lost their identities and continuously worked to search for their true selves.
>Jun Ji Hyun (My Sassy Girl, My Love from the Star, The Legend of the Blue Sea)
>Kang Dong Won (Broker, Peninsula, Illang The Wolf Brigade)
Director Kim Hee Won (Vincenzo, Queen of Tears) and unhinged mommy writer Jung Seo Kyung (Mother, The Handmaiden) will work together to create the upcoming K-drama. The two previously worked together for the hit series Little Women (didn't know it was a hit but I'm copy pasting this from mdl so who knows)
>unhinged mommy writer Jung Seo Kyung
how can one woman be so based?
drugs
Kang Dong Won doing a drama is kinda a big deal whos paying for it? i hope it's Slopfix or Bezlop
He's going back to his roots
It doesn't seem to be attached to any channel/platform yet. It's being produced by IMAGINUS, a newer production company lead by the former head of Studio Dragon. Found an interview where they talked about specifically targeting Disney+ and Netflix for their "premium programming" so I imagine that's who they're aiming for here
our girl Suzy is finally breaking into movies
all she needed to do was to learn how to actually act, as seen in Anna and Doona
Fighting!
>our girl
Suzy is everyone's girl - everyone's had her.
except you
I liked her in uncontrollably fond, vagabond was a bit shit though.
My Mister and Reply 1988 tricked me into thinking Kdramas are good. Then afterwards everything else is slop unfortunately.
Try Pinocchio and Mouse
liked pinocchio, refuse to watch mouse, dude can not act, why does he get lead roles?
>dude can not act,
think about it, he's only good at doing action and he refuses to do anymore action shows
>he refuses to do anymore action shows
why? ;-;
cause he got injured a couple of times during Vagabond and he said never again I don't even know why they filmed the s2 hook knowing already he would refuse to do it
They could just get stuntmen to do all his scenes and 99% of fans won't care.

>Idol mc
My mister is slop
>Romance
Reply 1988 is slop
>mouse poster and pinocchio poster were the same guy all along
scary
I'm also not sure if the people saying only watch My Mister, Mother, Reply 1988 are one guy.
Because it's highly specific, but also totally true.
I'm one of them, so I'm pretty sure we are at the very least 2
pretty much everyone recommends at least two out of three of these, they're just good.
suzy schizo and IU poster were the same guy all along
I liked Mouse but dropped Pinocchio after like 8 episodes cause I'm not a fan of either of the leads
how can one girl be so cute and wholesome and pure?
i want to lick her clit schlurp schlurp
i need Suzy to DOONA Lee Jae Wook. Suzy is 3 years his NOONA. put her creamy noona pussy on his beautiful face
i rather eat a bullet than watching anything with Lee Jong Suk
dudes zesty beyond reasonable doubt
he can be zesty all he wants idc, his fricking monstrous frankenstein face is what's wrong
>IU has her own little horror movie creature at home at her beck and call
she really can buy anything she wants doesn't she
god I wish that was me
I should really watch The Glory
No the glory is absolutely afwul
it's amazing but to be fair you need to be high IQ to appreciate it
whose dick is she sucking
mine
It's not *the* best show out there but it's fairly decent and probably the best revenge porn you can watch.
> what works
Bullying arc
General tone of the series
Realistic pace of revenge
Go theme
> what doesn't work
Ass pull reveal at the end
The Cursed was like this too.
mfw thinking of how tight Noona was last night and how much she came on my Magnum sized, stiff Jagiya wiener.
Korean NOONA with her younger pretty boytoys. Korea is a matriarchy.
The ML was such a cuck at least he ended up with the cute sister
Netflix has indeed been a godsend for kdrama, liberating creativity from the absurd constraints of legacy tv channels
that turned out real well for the west
there is a huge Asian market for kdrama without needing any western viewers. Netflix, Disney and Amazon did it because they want profit. China is a HUGE market for kdrama. There existed already an asian streaming service Viki. Korean, Thai, Tawain, Hong Kong, Japanese and Chinese movies and drama series.
truly entering a golden age.
Anti-Netflix moron is back with new screenshots of a random roastie opinions and he is *NOT* happy.
sister is extremely confused if he thinks vegana at the huffington post is the person to save him from netflix.
Is this any good? Historical revisionism aside, or so I've read. I haven't seen a lot of kdrama set in the 80s Korean War tbh. Recently watched Hunt (2022) and really liked it, seems like a kino time period for dramas
it's terrible and FL can't act
china drama?
china drama!
Luckily China still churns out loads of them for whenever I want something giga cheesy
im watching Fireworks of My Heart right now 🙂
I wanted the two of them to turned into lesbian like the korean film handmaiden
mom enjoyed Navillera
anything similar?
I haven't seen that one but Avengers Social Club is something I could see my mom enjoying
I recommend the advisor allice season 1 and 2
Pure unadulterated kino
Ahhhhhh I can't stop watching kdrama
the urge to watch them will mellow down when you've seen about 40 or so
Am I the only one who fell in love of Jo Soo Hyang in School 2015?
Haven't seen it, but I liked her in Love is for Suckers, which also had queen Lee Da Hee in it
Will a nice ahjussi make the new thread when this archives pls
technically we can make it now
