This movie was the death of all comedy, it’s sincerely the shittiest thing I’ve ever seen, I did not laugh a single time, no one in the entire theater did, dead silent the entire runtime except when they piss into their own mouths out of thirst, that was the one scene anyone even so much as chuckled at.

Homogenization of media, the industry prefers the mega budget movies with huge advertising budgets to cast as wide a net as possible rather than multiple mid budget movies with target audiences, Bridesmaids wouldn't have the same audience as Dude Where's my Car. Ghostbusters 2016 existed but it was hoping the brand and shaming males would be enough and even though it didn't do very well, it shows that brand recognition does work, it did much better than it should have.
The other main reason connected to homogenization is the foreign audience, the same way comedic films can have target audiences, it translates even worse across language and culture. That's why most comedy now is boiled down to snappy one liners or quips
