I work in screenwriting. Here's a quote that's been going around Hollywood for years now: "Not even Scorsese makes Scorsese movies anymore."

There's your answer. If he made a movie like his old classics it wouldn't even get greenlit. So now he's stuck directing the same tripe as everyone else. And there aren't any other options because hollywood doesn't care about what audiences think anymore.

IMO Silence was kino. Irishman was decent but the cracks in Scorsese's abilities were showing (especially the laughable scene where De Niro beats up the guy).

This new movie sounds so bad, and Scorsese sounds so utterly oblivious to what makes a movie good or bad (e.g. him showering praise on Ari Aster), that it seems unlikely that Scorsese will ever make a good movie again.

You act as if he was resigned to this, when it’s clear from the fact that a clip of him thanking the audience played before the movie began, and that he personally delivers the epilogue at end; that this was his passion project.

People want to spend their time doing something fun. Do you honestly believe people are going to subject themselves to a movie going yet another historical tragedy? As if we don't have enough problems already, we need to be reminded of fricked up shit that happened in the past. Nah man, most people go to the movies for entertainment.

There's also another detail that I feel people gloss over, and that is that, whether consciously or subconsciously, not a lot of people find native americans all that interesting. When you mention westerns (I know this movie isn't a western but it's the genre in which they're referenced the most), people usually think about cowboys and outlaws, not indians even though they hystorically were a huge part of it, and that's because, I imagine, being reminded of them leaves most americans with a sense of discomfort so they would rather erase them from memory instead. It's either that, or, again, simply the fact that most people don't find natives all that cool that they'd wanna hear about them for 3 hours straight

90% of the time it was white people who were like 1/16th Cherokee that b***hed about it. Indians never really cared. Same thing that happened with Mexicans and Speedy Gonzalez. Mexicans fricking loved that little dude and white people ruined it for them.

Americans, especially after the Wild West era, loved Indians because they were thought to embody a certain American spirit. It's also around that time National Parks became a thing, conservationists, too, the Teddy Roosevelt era, a reaction to mass industrialization.

I'm just tired of anything that sells the innocence of a group for the entire run time, I get it. Native genocide blah blah, but this isn't so far gone in our history that a tale needs to be weaved about them, so you either look like a moron or a suck up if you make a 3hr movie on how slavery was bad or how natives were slaughtered. Hugely disappointing. The trailer made it look like a 20s gangster flick kino.

I was very interested in learning about the Osage and their world. Why the frick did they focus on Di Caprio for 3 hours?!

Also, seeing the '''mystery''' unfold through the eyes of the FBI is obviously the way to approach this.

Bad choice of words, but I get what you mean: their stories were exciting in a way or the other despite many of them being miserable, they weren't all dramatic frowns and sad old fricks, there was cool shit happening in them. Like the Scorsese cameo

      >do you know who lives there?
      >the flower moon lives there
      >and i'm gonna kill it
      bravo scorcese

, that character goes insane and goes through some shit that'd make any guy mad, but it's so entertaining to watch, even though you know what he's enduring is horrible. It isn't so much self inserting as it is empathisying with these troubled individuals' worries, basically imagining if your life was as shit as theirs. It really makes you appreciate your own life more to see it's not that bad, or if it IS as bad as theirs THEN you can truly self insert. Either way I think I get you anon

If you're gonna make a 3 hour movie about white man bad then you at least gotta make the actors and actresses attractive. I have sat through many longer movies. Gone With the Wind, The Beautiful Troublemaker, Cleopatra, Dances with Wolves, Giant, Spartacus, Titanic, Celine and Julie Go Boating, etc etc. The difference is the movies do not involve watching decrepit old people hobble around for 3 hours trying to make you feel bad.

And for any Hollywood ghouls that might be reading this, no, this does not mean cast twinks like Timothee Chalamet in everything. And no, Zendaya does not count as attractive.

That doesn't do much these days, movie stars are a thing of the past. And a 200mil historical/western epic that's over 3 hours long is obviously a guaranteed flop in the current cinematic climate. Nolan pulled it off because he's practically a household name by this point and his film was also a part of the one of the most successful marketing campaigns ever.

Dwells on some characters for huge amounts of screen time while using other characters as disposable props for just a few minutes to set up their murder. That Osage who had "melancholy" would have been a far more interesting character to watch than Ernest, but he's just there as a victim to show more cruelty of the white man.

This film was just almost 4 hours of Leo mumbling incoherently with a couple of undercooked murder setpieces, drawn out scenes of nothing happening and when information does get dumped on the audience, the story doesn't even have enough to it.

Plus it looks gorgeous and it was really comfy in the sense that they had the atmosphere of the 1900's right. All in all, the movie is simply too goddamn long, shave off an hour, and you got a really nice movie.

Lol Don't lie to people, there aren't redpills dropping in this movie. The evil protagonists are billed as white and the film is marketed as the ruin of Indigenous People's homelands by whitey. It's not even a blackpill about racemixing, just that "white" (men) are bad.
If Cinemaphile's first glance is that it is yet another 2023 goyslop movie, and all the promotional interviews are catering to those themes, they should trust their instincts that this film is exactly as billed.

Based anon BTFOing the usual shill homosexuals.

This movie is just the latest example of the you-know-whos blaming white people for the evil shit ((they)) did.

Any time a movie title is a sentence long and could be the words of someone having a stroke, you can tell it's going to be pretentious Oscar bait trash with zero staying power.

    Way too long
Way too predictable in terms of the narrative
This looks like a 3.5hr documentary, who would pay to see this?

Watched this film recently. Good set design but the plot was weak.
Deus ex machine when the feebs turn up and just figure everything out based on witneses never previously mentioned
The woman knows she's being poisoned presumably from the hospital but despite the 3hr run time they couldn't show this
They can't figure out how to finish the film so switch to narration

No. They reveal what's happening in the first 10 minutes.
Also when Dicaprio plays his character as basically moronic why is that girl supposed to fall for him? No reason other than the writer says so.

              >Also when Dicaprio plays his character as basically moronic why is that girl supposed to fall for him? No reason other than the writer says so.
Because it's a retelling of something that actually happened. Maybe she saw he had a really huge dick through his trousers? Maybe she liked his laugh? How the frick should anybody know why?

That's the film. No interesting plot

                >why is that girl supposed to fall for him
                He's DiCaprio, that's why.

They could write them having some kind of chemistry. Some kind of reason to get together. Instead DiCap is literally moronic.

Holy frick you’re moronic, that’s the entire point of the film. Leo b***hed and got it changed which is why you have the boring slop you have now

                well clearly it isn't kek

Leo ruined the film, I’m not kidding. I say this as a big fan of his acting, he and DeNiro were the worst parts of this movie.
He fricked with the script and made it about him, we got boring predictable slop because of him

      >He fricked with the script and made it about him, we got boring predictable slop because of him
Leo was supposed to play the lead in the original script, too.
It was Scorsese who fricked with it. The old wop got white-guilted by his new idol, ~~*Ari Aster*~~.
      >"After a certain point, I realized I was making a movie about all the white guys," Scorsese said in a new Time cover story. "Meaning I was taking the approach from the outside in, which concerned me."

Scorsese decided that instead of making a movie where the white lead is a good guy (FBI Agent mystery), he had to make a movie where the "white" (according to all the marketing) lead is evil. Positive portrayals of white people, even historically-accurate portrayals, are no longer acceptable to wokeoids.

White people no longer want to pay for antiwhite propaganda, black people don’t have the stamina for a movie that long that doesn’t have explosions and The Rock in it and all other Indian tribes hate the Osage, Mexicans are too busy working for $5/hr, Chinese don’t care, israelites are too small,of a group to impact the box office and pajeets are busy doordadhing and ubering.
The movie literally doesn’t have an audience.
