>King Magnifico is supposedly the villain for outlawing magic and hoarding wishes
>But he gives a valid reason for hoarding the wishes as many wishes are understandably too vague or dangerous, even.
>Magnifico is also trying to bring on apprentice after apprentice to safely pass on the power of magic in a safe way, but all they really care about is asking him for things.
>When asked why he holds onto the evil spellbook he makes it clear that it's only as a last resort in case there's a threat to the kingdom too powerful for him to handle.
>Does exactly as he said and only uses its power after learning somebody used magic.
>Becomes corrupted by the book and everybody just turns their backs on him after building this utopia for them to live in, rent free.
At worst he was a paranoid narcissist, but then he was corrupted by an evil book and nobody tried to save him. Wish failed King Magnifico

So he's King John in Robin Hood?
He's the opposite. His citizens don't pay taxes and everyone is happy
>Disney says they're "returning to form" and making a straight-up bad guy again rather than a twist villain
>straight-up bad guy turns out to be the movie's most sympathetic character
I swear, the people at Disney aren't fricking human.
The reptilians didn't infiltrate politics, they infiltrated Hollywood and they suck at it.
Cool it with the antisemitism.
Given the amount of money the USSR put into Hollywood year on year since the end of WW2?
Yes.
Yes they did.
>USSR
Anon they're israelites.
They infiltrated both.
>Okay then give the wishes back
>I can't because... I just can't OKAY!
Anons actually defending a monarch hoarding wishes that do not belong to him. Fricking contrarians
Don't they GIVE him the wishes in the hopes he grants them? Yeah it sucks if you don't get yours granted but is there literally any negative effect besides forgetting it or whatever silly shit the story says?
>I WISH I RAPED TO DEAD EVERY WOMAN ON THIS KINGDOM!
WTF WHY DIDN'T HE GAVE THEM WISHES BACK?!?!?! THAT MAN DESERVES TO REMEMBER HE WANTS TO RAPE EVERY WOMAN TO DEAD.
The emost evil villian
>here is paradise enjoy everybody
>i will even grant reasonable wishes
One empowered and awe inspiring woman
>FRICKING FACIST HOW DARE YOU TELL ME WHAT TO DO
>I'LL END YOU FOR YOUR MISTAKE OF HIRING ME
>EVEN IF I DRAG THE COUNTRY TO HELL
He also trolled the thw guy who wanted:
>a Big wiener
Truly a lovable "bad guy"
Or atleas i hope so cuz if that sick frick furry i dont want to know what he did to the wiener
One guy was actually feeling depressed after giving his wish up, although that was really recently since he had JUST TURNED 18. Also, funny enough, Asha only grabbed her Grandpa's wish and actually said "Ok, next time I'll grab your wish mom!"
Bitch, why didn't you grab hers too. Why didn't you grab your friend's as well!?
Didn't Asha stop being friends with him?
No, he wasn't. Simon is supposed to be Sleepy the dwarf. He looks just as tired at the end of the film when everyone has already recovered their wish. And he's sad during the kitchen scene because not-Grumpy acted like an butthole the whole movie.
Also a lot of people bring up the grandpa who looks depressed, but the mom, also someone having their wish taken, acts completely normal. And the grandpa is able to become angry and shit, showing he still has emotions and stuff. Plus most of the citizens in the nation look super happy all the time.
It's another case of the movie trying to tell us something is happening while the visuals and storytelling show otherwise.
This entire movie is a giant mess
If they really wanted to commit to the "losing your wish makes you lifeless or lose purpose" they shouldn't have had Welcome to Rosas be so unapologetically cheerful. Most of the kingdom gave their wishes away and they all look fine.
The grandpa is depressed because he knows he's going to die soon and wasted his life. Mathematically he couldn't have waited longer than 50 years, he was already old when Magnifico made his kingdom and wished for something vague and dumb because he's never had a real ambition or dream in his heart.
Arguably it came true because his old ass being so depressed over this inspired his granddaughter to overthrow the good king of Rosas. So it's not only minorities ruining the kingdom, its the entitled fricking boomer that should have already had his day of the pillow.
>Arguably it came true because his old ass being so depressed over this inspired his granddaughter to overthrow the good king of Rosas.
And Magnifico himself warned that the wish could be something bad like inspiring people to overthrow him, to wich Asha said "no way".
It's like poetry.
Holy shit, he was right about EVERYTHING
>the rich powerful was right
Frick this elon magnifico self suck thread
If Wreck It Ralph 2 didn't exist Vanellope wouldn't be a homewrecking hypocrite proving King Candy's rule keeping Sugar Rush running right compared to her selfishly ruining her own game and running off into some shitty online game.
If the game cabinet naturally broke and Vanellope had nowhere to go she could have had a Q*BERT situation but it didn't, she made it break on her own because she was selfish.
She's a child
Future parent of the year over here
If she's a child she can't make adult decisions like staying Turbo'd into Slaughter Race which she ends up doing bucko, it makes Ralph wanting to stop her from leaving right.
She's a child and a woman who don't need no man
Ralph was an incel
>She's a child
She also permanently destroyed the equivalent of entire city borough, by doing something she knew could be extremely dangerous.
At some point being a child stops being an excuse.
Can Vanellope even mature?
No, she's basically an autist which means she cant be held accountable
Nah frick off. I'm an autist and I'm not taking that excuse. If I do something stupid you hold me accountable like anyone else.
Is she a child? Or is she just a munchkin?
For the purposes of law enforcement when they see my pics of her, munchkin.
>She's a child
Found the Gravity Falls defender
>She's a child
So, what? I'm going to give a hot take here, and say that the practice of "letting kids be kids" needs to come to an end. Make them face consequences for their actions, and hold them to the same standards as an adult. I think this country would be a far better place if we did.
>Future parent of the year
A parent that actually tells their kid(s) "no"? Yeah, I'd say that's good parenting.
THIS.
Boundaries and understanding you won't get everything you want is best learned early, to create more responsible children.
Shut up, shill
>anons identify with a rich and powerful type even though they're all wishlets
Yup
Sounds like an elon thread
Why do you let a rich homosexual live rent free in your head, when he could easily pay for it?
>brings up elon musk out of no where
You fricking trannies wont even kill your enemies, the rich and powerful, shut the frick up because you also attack the working class too.
Like seriously, here's an idea you can have for free.
>People who give up their wishes slowly lose their passion and humanity. Not only do they forget their wishes and themselves but everyone else via magic forgets about them as they're cast out of the kingdom when they have no further use. After bonding with Magnifico for a time Asha stumbles across this secret.
I'm basically saying it should have been Disney Logan's Run.
>here's an idea you can have for free.
And you won't even charge us rent?
>People who give up their wishes slowly lose their passion and humanity.
That's kind of hinted to be the case in the film.
"kind of hinted" isn't good enough if you want us to see Magnifico and his system as completely needing to be overthrown
The problem with the concept of the people losing their passion and humanity is that the same should be applying to the entirety of the kingdom's adult population, yet the place is depicted as a vibrant paradise with perfectly healthy adults.
The entire place would be a fricking zombie kingdom if the setting was consistent with this statement, and yet it isn't.
>the place is depicted as a vibrant paradise with perfectly healthy adults
Ehh wrong. We saw with Asha's grandpa, people without wishes can still be functional and happy looking. Its when Magnifico CRUSHES their wish that they become downtrodden.
But the movie explicitly tells us that giving the wish at all is bad and makes you a lesser person. It's like Encanto where they wanted to make a beautiful place everyone loves but also add a toxic element that makes it fricked up. A t least in Encanto everyone was well-meaning and learned to forgive, apparently giving a wish away makes you "boring" except when it's not convenient. It's a mess.
They tell us, but they don't show it. In a visual medium showing is everything, and if you don't have visuals to back it up or even directly contradict it, the audience is gonna call bullshit.
>But the movie explicitly tells us that giving the wish at all is bad and makes you a lesser person
And they still do so voluntarily because they're a bunch of fricking freeloaders who don't value their own fricking hearts or hard work.
Asha says that crap, it's never shown. And no, Simon doesn't count, he's supposed to be Sleepy.
I think that if the most beautiful part of yourself is wanting to flap your arms to fly with pigeons, then you must be a shitty person. I think there was like only one dude who wanted to have a happy family, he's the only one who involved other people's happiness in his wish. The others were always selfish dumb shit.
It might be a lot of the kingdom simply aren't wishing for something central to their self image and humanity. Like if that dumbass who wished for a giant chicken forgets it, is he somehow a hollowed out walking corpse?
No, of course not. The only way you end up in that state is if you have a deep, passionate need for something and refuse to pursue it yourself.
>That's kind of hinted to be the case in the film.
It is an important plot point that people can have more wishes
>that's kind of hinted to be the case in the film.
Where tho? Gramps has been without his wish for decades and is still pretty lively and spry for an old man. We see a lot of older characters who've clearly been without their wishes for a while and are acting just fine. Simon's the only one who is pointed out to be different after he gives up his wish, but he still acts soft-spoken and sleepy and boring even after the climax when he's gotten his wish back and Magnifico's no longer influencing him, so he's not the best piece of evidence.
It's just a metaphor for capitalism.
It's a much better metaphor for communist societies.
>It's a much better metaphor for communist societies.
except it's not because it's all voluntary..
It's not hinted at all. If they lost their passion and humanity they wouldn't be excited to get wish granting ceremonies. The chick who got the magic scissors almodt exploded of happiness.
And when the king is giving the first speech about the traitor, people started questioning things in front of the fricking king.
It makes reasonable sense for him to lock up wishes that he judges to be 'bad' or dangerous.
When it's just like a mundane stupid wish like "I want to become a knight" or "I want to marry my crush" those are things that aren't worth using magic to grant, but are also goals that are harmless or even beneficial for the people to keep and work towards under their own power. So it's kind of a flawed system, but more in a stupid way than a "great evil deserving eternal imprisonment" way.
>Pay one dollar to enter lottery
>Lose
>WTF GIB DOLLAR BACK!
>>Okay then give the wishes back
>>Okay get out of my kingdom.
He wasn't stealing the wishes to be a dick. He ws GIVEN them in exchange for letting people live in his utopia. This is like asking for a refund but wanting to keep the shit you bought.
He was lobotomizing people and keeping their brains like some toy collector. He was a control freak and framed it as him doing them a favor when he purposely wipes their memory so they can't go against him.
>that do not belong to him
They're given to him willingly. The problem with Wish's premise is nothing is actually kept secret from his people. They know they forget what is it they wanted when they give him their wish. They know how often people's wishes actually get granted. They could easily deduce that some wishes are never intended to get granted as it's the only reason to do it this way.
>They know they forget what is it they wanted when they give him their wish
Untrue. You speedwatched
What?
It's literally stated by the members of the public in the city, both in and out of song that they forget what is it they wished for.
You're the one that's speedwatched. Because you literally missed them saying that. Hell it doesn't even make sense, they know they've made a wish, so if they can't remember it, they'll know they've lost their memory of it.
Just make a new wish, it's actually easy as shit.
A lot of wishes never come true and people still find things to be happy about. I wanted to be an NFL pro when I was a kid. That shit didn't fly. Didn't even make my HS team. Instead I found something else. And not to get into detail but I'm pretty happy with how things turned out.
>purposely wipes their memory so they can't go against him.
He did no such thing and they still went against him.
they can take them back whenever they want because they're staaaaars
>hoarding wishes
This is absolute nonsense. You might as well say he's taking candy from babies, that's much clearer and more objectionable.
Being freed of your desires is literally the endgame of many philosophies and most religions.
Ah, that explains a lot. Hollywood writers are materialistic in the extreme, of course they think giving up your earthly desires is the worst possible thing that can happen to you.
>Being freed of your desires is literally the endgame of many philosophies and most religions.
ONLY because IRL you don't have literal wish granting powers.
It's nothing but cope meant for worms.
Begone Chernabog.
Depends on the desire and how much fulfillment there is in gaining it yourself versus it being magically granted. Like that guy in the movie who wanted to summit a mountain. What does granting the wish mean? Just getting whisked up to a mountain peak? There's no fulfillment in that. You have to climb that mountain yourself.
But the guy didn't climb the mountain. He gave the wish to the king instead. Maybe he was naive about how hollow it would be without the struggle. Maybe he recognized that he didn't have the skill or will to do it himself. Either way, the fixation wasn't doing him any good. It just left him pining for an experience.
>Suffer great loss
>Become greatest wizard in the world
>Go to island with your loyal wife
>Build a utopia
>Try to keep everyone as comfy as possible
>Start granting their wishes
>"Yikes, this lady wants her sister's husband. Sorry, won't grant that".
>"Wow, that guy wants fire powers. Sorry, too dangerous".
>People who don't get their wishes granted notice how others get theirs. You can see their greed. Maybe they are thinking about rebelling.
>You come up with a system
>"Okay, citizens. There're way too many of you now, so I'll grant one wish every month and that's it"
>You go checking citizen by citizen until you find something safe to grant.
>Those rejected are even more pissed off and those who didn't get a chance to show their wish are mad too.
>"Okay, you know what. Everyone who has a wish just give it to me and I'll make sure it doesn't make you suffer anymore"
>Storage of dumb and dangerous wishes begins
>Everyone is happy
And then your wife hires a Black person
I love this fella so much you wouldn't believe.
Neither you nor the movie asks what happens when you give the wishes back
>sorry can’t grant your wish, here it is
>”but I gave it to you with the guarantee you could make it for me. Now I know that I am solely responsible for my wish and I’ll be disappointed in myself if I can’t make it happen!”
>*riots happen of people who were returned their wishes and act jealous of the ones that got it*
>*civil war ensued between the wishes granted and the ones returned*
Of course the movie doesn’t consider this because they make everyone in the movie a boring good guy and Magnifico is the only character with any malice in him. But in a good story they would explore the consequences and reaction of this power.
See
>>*riots happen of people who were returned their wishes and act jealous of the ones that got it*
Ah yes, just like how people riot every time someone wins the lottery. This is such a fricking reach and makes no sense.
He literally grants like one wish per year in the movie and makes a habit of making a huge deal out of it in front of everyone in the kingdom. If they weren't starting civil wars and getting jealous already, then they never were.
People here keep trying to make this fricker deeper than he was, when he was a half-assed villain with a piss poor song.
A lot of lottery winners report being harassed by people trying to grab a portion of their winnings for themselves. Granted it's a little different because cash is fungible while wishes are not.
>cash is fungible while wishes are not.
Depends on the wish. Say for example giant wiener guy's wish, someone could easily steal his rooster or just kill it.
>He literally grants like one wish per year
Per month archtually. Sometimes more.
You're kidding me right? There are literally mountains of horror stories about lottery winners having their lives ruined as their family and friends turn on them.
If you haven't had the chance to ask for your wish, then you're not gonna mind other people getting theirs because "Cool, I'll get mine too!" - BUT if you know he won't grant it, then you might get pissed because "Oh my wish wasn't granted but his was?"
Magnifico was literally completely right. Vague wishes are dangerous. What if the grandpa "Inspired" someone to burn down the fricking city?
It would be funny if Gramps created the Horst Wessellied lol lmao
I mean his citiziens are unlikeable anyway. So we have a guy who grants wishes every mont, let you life for free, keep you safe and they still demand that they deserve better.
Not even every month, he granted 14 in a year! That sounds ridiculously generous!
They only start doing that when Dahlia stalls Magnifico with questions while Asha is in the study.
>Anons actually defending a monarch hoarding wishes that do not belong to him.
But... they do? It would be like give your friend a gift on his birthday and then getting mad 20 years later when he won't give it back.
He didn't give the wishes back because a lot of them made him realize that his leadership was probably in jeopardy based off the wishes or the idea that if they won't get their wish come true that they have to make it come true
They could sprout as many wishes as they wanted, they didn't because they GAVE UP on their wishes when they decided only Magnifico's magic could teach them how to be a baker or songwriter or whatever else.
The whole “omg the wish is a part of my very soul and he’s keeping it” drama only works if people never have more than one wish or aspiration in life, which is, y’know, not how humans work. There was nothing preventing the grandpa from wanting to write a song to inspire the next generation (this was his wish at 18? Really?) AND learning to paint AND leaning a foreign language AND baking top-tier cookies. For real-life people, giving away one of their wishes for a lifetime of peace and free rent and healthcare would be an amazing proposition.
Wish requires us to disregard everything we know about people to make its dumb story make any shred of sense.
It also requires us to see the negative consequence of the effects of losing a wish if it really is such a bad thing. But the world is still vibrant. The people are happy. There's song and art and culture. This stuff doesn't come from nowhere. All of the place people still have to be working hard at getting good at stuff. And it might not have been their original wish but it was something they've become passionate about all the same. Is that not more of what makes us who we are? What is really better? Wishing to be a painter and getting it for free or giving up something that was never going to work but discovering a love of gardening and devoting yourself to that?
It's bizarre how one of the main wishes we're shown is some lady flying around with the birds and it's supposed to be tragic that this was taken from her. How many of the wishes are silly bullshit like that? Am I really supposed to be broken up about that?
I'm trying to remember if we see even one wish, that actually would qualify as something missing from that person. Was there a single one? I mean, one of them was for a nanny!
And some like fly are completely impossible to achieve through non-magical means, so giving it up and not working on it yourself means nothing, because working on it yourself is impossible.
>Gives some moron power to fly.
>Air is thinner the higher you go.
>moron suffocates, passes out, crashes into the goddamn ocean and dies like a moron.
The main dilemma of the film as given could be solved by a few openly known ground rules.
>No wishes that intentionally harmful.
>No wishes that can obviously result in people being harmed.
>No wishes that compel someone else to do something.
>Wishes must be clearly defined in nature and scope.
>Magnifico reserves the right to reject wishes based on frivolity.
Honestly, the last one is all you need. Magnifico made the kingdom, so he can do whatever he wants. He could tax the people! He could make them pay rent! He doesn't have to grant any wishes! The fact that him not granting every wish is somehow bad is just idiotic.
Yeah, I feel like everyone in Rosas was taking for granted that this guy was the fricking king. The grandpa telling Asha to shut up and appreciate what they have when she tried truthbombing him was one of the only realistic reactions in the movie. This is a pre-modern world. You can't just take for granted that your king wasn't viewing you as disposable peasants or worse.
Even in modern world, where do you have a government of any type that not only provides you with free housing but also doesn't tax you? Nowhere! People of Rosas are living such easy, charmed life, and it is all thanks to Magnifico. The only thing he asks of them is that they don't act in a destructive way!
Exactly. Speaking for myself, I’ve discovered most of my hobbies in adulthood. Never thought I’d enjoy hiking, cooking, or reading fiction, but then I did and it feels great to improve. I’m pretty sure most people discover new things they enjoy and are good at over the course of their life. Wish, on the other hand, presents a rather miserable existence where you decide in childhood what is the one and only thing you will ever want (working for Disney, I guess), and if you don’t get it, your life will never have any meaning. This sounds like the kind of shit a corporate CEO would invent for his employees.
Oh no, that was grandpa's wish at almost 60! And that is with very generous math of Magnifico being 60 (he really looks much younger) and him starting to build Rosas well before turning 20. Grandpa was old already when he made his wish, because Rosas did not exist before Magnifico.
So why doesn't he give them back? Is he using them as power-ups or any sort of personal gain?
Because he uses them to keep the people enslaved in his tyranny, why would he give them back?
>Because he uses them to keep the people enslaved in his tyranny
How? Are they suddenly going to leave the peaceful prosperous country out of spite when he realized he wouldn't give them a magical nanny?
Anon the finale establishes that they can get their wishes back at any time without any outside interference.
The only way to read the story is that the people of Rosas are totally unmotivated.
Because of Magnifico. They literally have a point where he takes someone's wish and it makes him unmotivated and lethargic for the rest of the movie.
That's one guy who freshly gave up his wish and we don't really see him suddenly being lively and vivacious after everyone got their wishes back. Meanwhile everyone else seemed to be doing fine.
>Because of Magnifico.
That's a scapegoat. YOU are the one who gave up your wish. YOU are the one who knew at the start that the game was an impossible longshot even if it wasn't rigged. YOU were the one who was so quick and eager to gamble your wish away instead of working to see it granted.
>he takes someone's wish and it makes him unmotivated and lethargic for the rest of the movie.
That was Sleepy Dwarf you phenomenal jackass.
On one hand, Magnifico finds the wishes themselves beautiful and wants to protect them under the pretense of not wanting anyone to suffer their wishes being destroyed (until he loses his mind from the evil book's corruption). That is, he views hoarding the wishes as an extension of his duty of protecting the kingdom.
On the other hand, removing the wish from someone and holding it in the vault essentially frees them from that particular desire. Magnifico views this as generally for the better, citing that the journey to Rosas is arduous, so people often come with wishes they could never accomplish on their own. Therefore, they're often overall happier without whatever irrational fixation brought them to Rosas.
There is a legitimate thread of dishonesty in how Magnifico portrays this to the public and Magnifico is paranoid about what wishes should be granted, but his point isn't vacuous or inherently selfish.
There's probably some grand irony that Asha's position is that "greed, for lack of a better term, is good" except she did find a better term: wishes.
I think the movie biggest crime is making him such a non threatening villian, if you're returning to form, you need a stoic and scary villian figure or at least if you're going for a royal butthole make him look serious and stoic
Disney considers villains today as whiney manchilds prone to emotional outbursts, so that's all they know how to write.
They tried to write Thrawn as the stoic, menacing scheming genius villain, and he is the dumbest and stupidest motherfricker to ever exist.
>Disney considers villains today as whiney manchilds prone to emotional outbursts, so that's all they know how to write.
This is just Asha.
Seriously. Remember when villains just murdered people like all the time. Frollo was gonna huck a baby down a well. Not to mention Tony Jay's more... theatrical gravitas giving him a classical air. Seriously there's this video on youtube collecting voice clips from various character he's dune and you can find the dumbest silliest character he's voiced and he still sounds more threatening than most modern villains. Like not Galactus. Not the Elder God. Goofy cartoon side villains from dumb shows and guest spots on rugrats.
Should have gone full magician tyrant
They used to know shape language that portrayed a villain from the start. Scar, Jafar, Hades, Shan Yu, Yzma, they all looked villainous even though some of them had trusted high positions in the kingdom.
I suppose now making someone look evil and then portraying them as evil is abelist or racist or some other twitterism term
I mean this sort of the thing. Magnifico was supposed to be a NON TWIST villain but he still in effect was. They didn't really change anything. They just spoiled their own hand first.
If you find him sympathetic then you think King Candy is right
No? That's an insane false equivalency.
King Candy was a fricking usurper. Magnifico created Rosas through his grit and determination.
No, Magnifico STOLE the magic that was inside everyone so he could become a tyrant.
Not really
>What the frick? I gave $5 to the lottery and got nothing while someone else won? That's theft!
no he didnt. by the end of the film it's revealed people could take back their wishes anyway (even if they were destroyed) because they're all staaaaaars.
Vanellope literally goes Turbo without consequences in WIR2, hell she’s the reason everyone became homeless because she fought the player and broke the steering wheel. Turbo fricked up on his first game but he already technically won by WIR by maintaining a kingdom that is a functioning game with himself as a player/leader. And that said outside of his horrible (now knowing how she is, justified) treatment of Vanellope he ran that game like a tight ship.
So because of WIR2, yes, King Candy did nothing wrong.
>Vanellope literally goes Turbo without consequences in WIR2, hell she’s the reason everyone became homeless because she fought the player and broke the steering wheel
Isn't this what turbo did in his backstory? Destroyed his own game and another?
What Vanellope did was arguably worse, instead of being jealous another game was getting more attention and hopping over to a new one so she could feel the zest of what she's programmed to do she fought her programming so hard it broke her game.
Honestly WIR2 has a bit of a plot hole. The whole reason why King Candy didn't pose a problem is because he edited the coding so that he could act as a racer without any issues, but what happens in Vanellope's case when she leaves? They didn't edit the coding for her departure iirc, so the arcade goers could possibly try and pick her while she's absent and bug the game out.
You fool, the twist is everyone else is the villain in the story
>Wish for a good villain guy.
>Gets a villain who's actually a good guy.
>Check some YouTube 'reviews'
>.PNG gays call him a bastard and evil
Dont watch lefties then, dumbass, rightoids and antiwokies are just simply ignoring the movie cause they learn their lesson after fricking up so badly with Barbie, DONT hate watch.
>DONT hate watch.
You know what's really begun to annoy me? The "I'm going to review it so you don't have to" homosexuals. All the moron "anti woke" homosexuals who claim to be "ON OUR SIDE" but are just using outrage culture and click bait in order to prop up their own youtube careers by pointing at obviously bad movies to call them obviously bad and acting like this is something that needs a heated debate. If this was the pre youtube days and someone made a shitty movie you know what would happen to it? Nothing. And people would forget about it. It would be as if it never existed and we could all move on with our lives. All these morons do is is give more attention to it, fan the flames of ironic and hate watching and give more success (If only ever minuscule) to what they're allegedly trying to tear down. They're not watching for our sake. It's all for themselves.
You do not have to give attention to these things. You do not have to hate watch. You do not have to watch it so we don't have to because we never had to. We never had to do anything. This all could go away almost over night if everyone would just shut up and let the box office do it's job. If not for Youtube turning out a new video every hour about this shit WISH would be on the same level as Home on the Range. So if you ever get a youtube recommendation from someone saying obvious shit about an obvious movie. Don't watch it. We need to choke these homosexuals out as badly as we need to choke out the people making bad cinema.
Those YouTubers are much much better than critics, anon. They actually give us a synopsis of the story with their own thoughts so that you know where they're coming from instead of a shmancy pants review that makes you wonder if they even watched the movie in the first place.
Except they're not. A good critic makes one review and lets the topic drop. These jerks will constantly bring the subject up. Make it their point to talk about the movie for as long as possible to get clicks and just generally not let it die. It is all for their own sense of e-fame.
They are. At least with the YouTubers you know the plot without investing 2 hours of your time watching. Critics just say "this movie sucked" with big words that don't even hold any weight because they're literal who's who don't even share the same taste as you, and you don't even know why they think that way without context. One serves a purpose while the other is just a snob.
>All the moron "anti woke" homosexuals who claim to be "ON OUR SIDE" but are just using outrage culture and click bait in order to prop up their own youtube careers
Congratulations, you figured out how human beings don't want to solve "problems" and would prefer them to get worse so they get paid more. Same with charity.
>The "I'm going to review it so you don't have to" homosexuals.
Don't talk shit about the Critic.
don't tell me
>2 weeks and Disney will crash
>2 weeks and Netflix will crash
>2 weeks...
Honestly, if Disney really wanted to see Magnifico as a villain, they should’ve made it so he takes people’s wishes to increase his own power and keep his rule on the kingdom. We see later on in the movie that absorbing wishes gives him magical powers, so that should’ve been his deal from the get-go. A Disney Villain shouldn’t be introduced as originally a good guy with a sympathetic background who just gets corrupted from an evil spellbook.
There's a lesson here, you know. The "straight up bad guy" villains are still wildly loved, and even though Disney fricked up Magnifico, he still has his fans. Obviously, we need more bad guys that are bad for the sake of being bad.
Imagine actually watching this movie. Even through piracy.
I was bored on a saturday afternoon. Imagine wasting your saturday afternoon shitposting on Cinemaphile.
Funner than the movie
But you don't understand OP. He said no when a quirky POC girl wanted something for free! That makes him like double ultra mega hitler.
I concur, Magnifico should have impregnated the brown b***h
Yes
What shocks me the most is that the script has Magnifico emotionally connect with Asha and open himself up to her as he believes that he has finally found an apprentice that isn't just trying to get special privileges out of him, only for her to IMMEDIATELY break the record of being the fastest apprentice to ask for special privileges (10 minutes into the job!), and then they go through the trouble of animating his heart shattering.
They could just have removed all that and avoided making Asha look like a c**t and Magnifico more sympathetic than they intended him to be.
>and then they go through the trouble of animating his heart shattering.
Holy shit lmao, really?
I need a webm
>Watch this, Lis. You can actually pinpoint the second when his heart rips in half.
>give Magnifico a tragic backstory that clearly traumatized him and informs literally every decision he makes
>makes his chief motivation be ensuring nobody under his wing ever goes through what he went through
>have him act like a laid-back, reasonable guy throughout the whole interview
>have him act like a giddy kid when he thinks he's finally found a kindred spirit in Asha
>have him legit look like he just took a gut-punch after Asha immediately breaks his trust and tries nepo-ing gramps' wish into existence
And they're baffled why audiences find him to be the most sympathetic character.
They should have made the reveal that his tragic backstory was either bullshit or he did it to gain power, would have made him more evil and would have been a nod to the "past trauma" thing they have done recently
For some reason it reminds of frozen Han's "hey, I'm a good person and happy go lucky...and it's all a farce but I'm so deep into this act that I stay in character even when no one is around". But Wish seems much worse because instead of a cheap trick to the audience, it's shows just how out of touch these creatives are even at human level that theyd create a sympathetic villain by accident when trying to make a "classic" villain like the evil queen
The queen was the Hans of the movie
In ANY other Disney movie, He would have had Asha escorted out and then sung a somber version of "At all Costs" realizing that he's never going to find a true apprentice who actually cares about the kingdom's wishes
A diamond in the ruff
>Tightens his posture and widens his eyes, like he's been slapped
Why would you animate him this way
Because he felt very mentally and emotionally betrayed by what she just did, I actually love that scene lol
Holy shit, even the lighting in the background goes visibly darker, as if his light mood was just snuffed out.
that's just the video quality
This animation looks so cheap. 2008 Disney Channel Original Series cheap.
Holy frick, poor guy
This might give JTAB a run for its money as “peak unintentional redpill warning against capitulating to these kind of parasite snakes”
At least Gabby is kind of niche, this is a multi-hundred million dollar Gisnep film
This is the result of people reading too much feminist theory and ruling out having empathy.
Which is ironic, because its making people dislike the theory even more than ever.
>most people wait a few months or even a year before asking me for things
Has he had other apprentices before this? What happened to them?
They asked for GIBS and were likely fired.
Maybe. I assumed he meant employees in general.
he looks like male elsa
It sort of feels like they probably had a redemption arc for Mags in store but then got so high on the smell of a classic villain while forgetting to readjust the script to actually make him villainous. So he got a villain fate but didn't really deserve it.
This is why I can't help but feel you can see the rewrites in this scene. Even his outburst in the scene feels less like "the mask is slipping" and more like he just went bipolar
Being charitable I could see him exploding as a result of the earlier heartbreak that he was trying to hide up until Asha kept insisting, but then that would only make Magnifico more sympathetic.
why does he even need an apprentice? would Asha have taken up the mantel of wish granting, was he gonna teach her magic that would've gone against his whole reason for lashing out and turning evil considering he doesn't want magic in the kingdom that isn't his own, was she just gonna make him tea cause i think magnifico would have a staff to do that. I'm starting to think they couldn't think of an actual reason for Asha to learn the truth of what he was doing with the wishes.
Why doesn't he have a daughter? He's married, so there's no excuse. Asha should have been his daughter if anything.
The only reason I can think of why she's not his daughter is that it may get banned in China since China will not allow a movie where the child has to fight the parents.
Honestly him taking an apprentice makes sense mainly if you assume that his wife doesn't want or is incapable of having kids and he loves her too much to force the issue, so he's just looking for a successor to work around that incase he just up and dies someday.
They should honestly just remove the queen entirely. She adds nothing and her turning so quickly on him is frankly disgusting. My wife found her behavior appalling. Which I guess is good news for me. So that's comforting.
Remember to check you wife's anti-magic oil stash
Seriously, how the frick did Magnifico not know about the abti-evil oil?
Also, his wife is a super moron for trusting the evil book to be honest about how to break free from it's evil power.
I've said this before, but they really could have gotten rid of the queen, aged Magnifico down and redeemed him, and made him and Asha enemies to lovers. It'd make Asha a forreal princess instead of an honorary one, be a completely new idea for the Disney fairytale line, and it'd get those sweet, sweet shipper bucks. That'd be a risk, though, and Disney hates those, so it'd never happen.
>My wife would back me up if I were a Disney villain
Put a baby in her, she's a catch.
Just got back from the Saberspark review, he also suggested this. All I could think about is >What about Saba?
This shit seriously made it seem like you were supposed to be disappointed in Asha as the viewer. Why did they include it?
In an earlier script we probably WHERE supposed to feel like Asha was the one who made the betrayal. Maybe it would have kick started an arc for her. But then the script probably got passed around the writer's room and so many twats threw a fit because how dare she be in wrong at all.
Imagine people only ever approaching you because they want something from you
Isn't that the exact same thing many young princes and princesse in media use as their "tragic" backstories, and which leads them to joining with some commoner MC?
Young princes and princesses thing is to be born into the greatest position of privilege and luxury, while going around and singing songs about wanting more
Nah, they just needed to add one more scene with Asha's mom wish. If the audiences had seen the mom wishing for health for her husband and Asha realized Magnifico not granting it lead to her dad's death, Asha would look more justified and the audiences could sympathize more.
was that the mom wish? that sounds like a wish he would have granted, it's really basic and has no potential reprecussions attached to it
It should also be a more immediate concern for Asha than her grandpas stupid song. Which if it's anything like the songs in the rest of this film would have been crap anyways.
That is probably why they didn't show mom wish, there was nothing they could show that magnifico wouldn't grant or mom would come off as a selfish b***h.
It’s funny that for as much as people complain about villains being redeemed when they don’t deserve because the writers are attempting complexity, the villains writers make plain villains are ones that might have benefited from complexity.
Bellweather, for instance, might have been a better villain if she was genuinely paranoid that the predators were out to oppress prey, and her plot was done to accelerate the “inevitable”.
She doesn’t even have to be redeemed by the end, just something more than “I want power lol”
Basically a furry version of the villain woman from nimona, where she was basically causing death and destruction inside her kingdom out of pure paranoy and fear for the "monster" they were supposed to exterminate many centuries before.
Reminder than the grandpa given his age had to give his wish to Magnifico in his 50s at the earliest. Meaning the old fart did jackshit towards his dream all his life, and it wasn't even a hard one to accomplish.
>the old fart did jackshit towards his dream all his life
He forgot what it was! Magnifico holds their wishes hostage
The first half of his life, dipshit.
Do you understand words when you read them?
Look, even being ridiculously generous (like assuming Magnifico, with his magnificent beard and loyal wife, was only 16 when he started building Rosas), Grandpa was closer to 60 when he made his wish. He had almost 60 years, longer than his fricking son even got to live, to make his wish happen, and he failed! Then he gave the wish away in last ditch effort to make it happen, and moped every goddamn month when he didn't win the wish lottery! Asha's mom made a wish too, yet was she being whiny b***h about it after every ceremony? Asha clearly takes after her grandpa in her sense of entitlement.
Modern writers and audiences hate HAVING TO PUT IN EFFORT. Really the whole movie just reeks of millennials being told they have to try and can't just have their dreams for free. Instead of the blame being on their own apathy, it was the big monarchs fault.
You know would have been cool. If Magnifico wasn't even a real person. If instead the whole friendly loving king was just a facade. Imagine the screen darkens, Magnifco suddenly begins to cackle and with a horrific flash the truth is revealed. He transforms into a massive demonic entity. One that grows by feeding on the hopes and dreams of others. He concocted the whole false paradise where people give up their most precious hopes and desires to him. And they do it for free. For the promise of safety from failure. He is a beast who preys on humanities fear of failure. By taking our wishes he gives us an excuse to not try. A chance to forget and not suffer the fear and heartache of failure. He is our easy excuse and our easy answer. But that is not what it means to live. No the moral is that we often have to risk failure if it means achieving our goals. To not try is worse than to fail because failure will at least see our efforts rewarded in ways we might not realize at the time. We can grow strong from a failure and discover new things that we may want so long as we can keep trying. A wish is a dream your heat makes. And to have that lost is a nightmare.
Holy frick, Magnifico being revealed to be an avatar of Chernabog would have been a thousand times better as a reference than all the other garbage spread throughout the film. Just imagine a subtle transition into Night in Bald Mountain to surprise the viewer and immediately communicate that shit has gotten as real as can be.
Sadly such a villain and message could never be, because Disney buys completely into the interpretation that wishes mean actual magic interference granting you your desires so they'd see that as shooting themselves in the foot.
And that was just off the top of my head. Took me like two seconds to think up. You could make the movie then shift to Asha trying to convince people to try and make their own dreams come true via hard work and guts. Maybe make a nice song about never giving up and all that. Maybe an INSPIRATIONAL song after convincing her grandpa to help her. Kind of tie it all together. But I'm not a writer. What do I know.
>Holy frick, Magnifico being revealed to be an avatar of Chernabog would have been a thousand times better as a reference than all the other garbage spread throughout the film. Just imagine a subtle transition into Night in Bald Mountain to surprise the viewer and immediately communicate that shit has gotten as real as can be.
modern disney has below zero edge and night on blad mountain is the darkest thing they ever did, they'll pretend it never happened
>darkest thing they ever did
Doesn't something have to be more than just le scary monster to count as dark?
>Frollo
>The scene in Brave Little Toaster with the suicidal cars
>Lampwick turning into a donkey
Like this it would make sense for Magnifico's backstory to be shown at the start, as the sympathy it causes on the viewer would help hide the truth for a while.
Turns out he actually touched the evil book years before the movie starts and got devoured by Cherno, then skinwalked long distance by him as he comes with the whole wishes scheme. Perfect way to reconcile the two sides that make Magnifico look like two characters badly mashed together in the actual film. Rosas is created by a benevolent sorcerer with the best of intentions who earned the love of his people and wife, and it would explain said wife's complete lack of sympathy or mercy for his husband after he's defeated, given that it's only a meat suit that has been deceiving her for years.
Yeah that's a part of the plot that really doesn't make sense. Disney really wanted to reference their 100 year anniversary with the guy without thinking about the implications.
They'd need to have made it so Magnifico's magic grants him an extended lifespan and slower aging or something.
Another thing is the queen age.
Does Magnifico every say explicitly "To live in my Kingdom past the age of 18, you *HAVE* to give me a wish" ? He seems desperate in his interactions with Asha for someone to not ask him for anything at all.
Nope. You can live in tax free rent free Rosas and never give up your wish. But people still do it because hey, free genie lottery. Some people even move there for the sole reason of playing the wish lotto.
>outlawing magic
Never happens.
>the queen is completely okay with her (very recent) past lover being trapped in and mirror and left in a dungeon for presumably forever
How can I believe she's virtuous when she flips a switch on him that quickly? And isn't eternal imprisonment just.. extreme? He did threaten her, but he was tainted by the dark magic at the point wasn't he?
You know if it was a woman or poc that was possessed they would go to every length to free them
Like the evil b***h from Raya
But he is poc
Unless you think latinos are white
Magnifico is clearly white coded
If there were no white people life would be a socialist paradise
Rosas under Magnifico's rule IS SOCIALISM.
Peace and equality in exchange for losing personal ambition, government controls everything. People who don't know what was taken from them are docile and controllable.
Overthrown and turned into a free-market Capitalist nation backed up by a fairy god mother. On an island... where they're going to rapidly run out of resources if not regulated.
So, Rosas went from a Communist Dictatorship (Magnifico looks like Stalin with Lenin's beard added), to a unregulated Capitalism (their governing force is a "do what ever you want" queen and a girl wielding magic she doesn't know how to use), the next transformation will be a impoverished dystopia rapidly leading to total anarchy and probably cannibalism.
I give it a week before wishes start to become conflicting if not out right contradictory.
Yes but this socialism works because it's a small society where everyone knows each other and there's literal magic to make it work
you are clearly gay-coded
>Unless you think latinos are white
White Latinos exist, yes.
>But he is poc
They would not allow a whyte man like Pine to voice him in our modern age if he was meant to be any sort of PoC
they made a note to look in the book for a cure to fix magnifico but they couldn't find one but they had the opportunity to wish him back to normal but instead of trying to redeem him they shove him into a mirror for all eternity even though it seems like he's come to his sense when he's trapped
I always notice how in Hollywood we've gone from the tired cliche of trying to make every villain redeemable, to the worse cliche of making every villain redeemable EXCEPT for white male villains who must be killed/taken down/punished in the most extreme and horrifying ways possible.
She's the actual twist villain of the piece. She knows how to read the evil book without it corrupting her, she takes the word of said evil book that her husband cannot be saved even when we see that the book lies, she supports a coop against her husband, and she happily sends into the dungeons for double imprisonment. Hell, she is the one who pushes Asha to Magnifico. What other reading can there be besides the Queen being power hungry and her plan working out?
Rewrites. The two of them were supposed to be a villain couple but that was changed, likely because of the effort needed to write 2 cooperative villains.
And this is proven by finished concept art unlike the rumor floating around that Asha was supposed to be their daughter .
God, that rejected concept art was so much better compared to the end product.
Just imagine if they had actually made a quirky star twink, or any of the other better designs really, instead of a godamn not-Luma
>God, that rejected concept art was so much better compared to the end product.
Even tv tropes had to admit it.
>gives you star twink
>Valentino never talks and his VA goes to said star twink
What a b***h
It really felt like there was supposed to be a Morticia and Gomez-style romance here, but they ended up scrapping everything for the queen but kept Pines' recordings.
It's so weird how literally everyone is collectively agreeing that this "villain" was totally in the right.
He doesn't even have a villain song. He sounds like an overworked parent after having an argument with their entitled child. Hell, the citizens actual start getting real greedy asking to change their wishes, ask for wish ceremonies, and ask for MORE WISHES!
>He doesn't even have a villain song
Apparently This is the thanks I get was a song developed when he was supposed to be a spoiled and immature royal which is probably why its lyrics are off.
Y'know I found it disappointing they didn't do more with the mirror imagery.
Why did they use peg toy people instead of miniature citizens...
I guess it was less violent and easier to animate?
I like how one top critic put it as, “the so-called villain song could be an anthem of overworked, underappreciated moms everywhere”.
Great job, Disney.
Because he's literally in the right. There's no real debating this. As the story is written it comes off like Asha is a spoiled brat.
Asha gaslights him unto turning evil.
He isn't right, but watching Cinemaphile defend literal brainwashing and mindwiping just because they dislike the movie is funny.
Shut up Yidney writer, the world is waking up to your ideaology faster and faster.
Wish is a weird movie where the end result is a bunch of people can wish for anything they desire, and it be seen as a good thing. When most fairytales and myths have that be seen as a bad thing, because anybody wishing and getting everything they desire leads to unexpected consequences at best or unmitigated disasters and pain at the worst.
Like King Midas for God sakes.
The villain here wants to grant wishes so long as the wish doesn't negatively affect the kingdom, and even if your wish isn't granted you can still live in a literal paradise and still have hopes and dreams.
This movie could have been about a magic king that was paranoid and jaded(to the point he doesn’t even like granting any wish but the most simplest for fear of it going badly), seeing nearly all wishes as almost curses and be extremely hesitant in giving them (maybe have a backstory of him granting a supposed "easy/harmless" wish but it backfires hard and people got hurt or killed) and has people forgetting what they wished for because the king seen how his subjects seen other people's wishes be granted and it caused strife and jealousy in the past that almost tore apart the kingdom in the beginning.
And the apprentice be someone who wants the king to see king see the joy of magic once again, and the apprentice also learn that one must be careful and cautious of wanting to please everyone because the end result usually leaves everyone unhappy.
>anybody wishing and getting everything they desire leads to unexpected consequences at best or unmitigated disasters and pain at the worst.
The entire plot of Aladdin is built around wishes being too dangerous a power for Jafar to have.
He’s just a poor boy, nobody loves him.
I like to watch animated films like this, but I have to admit that I don't really understand what this one is all about. I keep reading synopses online and they all just seem like random nonsense. Can anyone explain to me what this thing is about and why anyone would enjoy seeing it?
"EVIL" king had a hard life and makes his own paradise with black jack and hookers
Invites everyone to come party. He'll even provide beer they just have to give up a "wish" but other wise lead pretty chill lives.
MC-chan wants to be his assistant and before being hired IMMEDIATELY starts asking for special treatment for her families wishes breaking the kings heart once he thought he found a buddy and he yells at her and says no because of perfectly fair and justifiable reasons.
This makes him evil so everyone confronts him and starts begging for GIVs so he turns to an evil book and immediately is turned on by everyone he used to give prosperous lives to and is sealed away and the day is saved from his tyranny.
Am I blind what the frick changed
Glitter
Kek, they didn't even change it for the flashback scene when she was a little girl
This is the worst dress transformation, even the joke one from Moana was better.
You're right, I don't see any transformation either
the star added constellations and star dust on her dress, but didn't change it's form. I guess animation is HARD for disney
I mean at least add poofy shoulders
>I let you live here for free
>And I don't even charge you rent
He doesn't even tax his people beyond their one-time wish. He probably spends most of his work time magicing the country's infrastructure together.
Why do you all keep saying they HAD to give their wishes to him at 18? They weren't required to give them up at 18, just that's when he lets them make that choice.
That just makes the idea that he's evil all the more galling.
Right? I'm surprised they didn't go with the idea of it being Asha's birthday instead of her grandfather's, and make it so she chose to not give Magnifico her wish.
No see that would actually make sense.
>Be Asha. It your birthday.
>Have dream. But it's your turn to mandatory give up your wish because it's too important to you.
>Plot is now about Asha refusing to give up her wish and getting kicked out of the kingdom as a result before finding a bunch of other exiles, learning a dark truth and taking back everyone's dream.
THIS IS NOT HARD! WHY ARE THEY MAKING THIS HARD!?
>They weren't required to give them up at 18, just that's when he lets them make that choice.
Holy shit he really did let them all live there for free then.
It would've been the easiest thing in the world for the writers to throw in a short scene that reveals you're not allowed to live in Rosas if you don't give up your wish. Like a big family is excited that their youngest member just turned 18 and they bring him to the wish ceremony, but when face to face with Magnifico the kid hesitates. Then Magnifico, while still putting on an amicable facade, implies the kid can't stay in in the kingdom with his family if he doesn't hand it over and the kid caves in to pressure. Then the king does seem like a genuine dick in a way that would kill any "Magnifico did nothing wrong" posting.
The issue is they wanted rosas to be a place everyone would want to live, if they king was a dick no one would want to live there. So it is impossible to make the king evil and rosas a great place to live at the same time.
It's actually super easy though. There are all kinds of stories about corrupted utopias being built on a mountain of lies. Shit happens all the time.
It's like a 3rd grader wrote this movie.
Even the name "King Magnifico" is about as basic b***h as you can get.
The writer's didn't deserve shit. Replace them all.
>The writer's didn't deserve shit. Replace them all.
I'm not saying I want AI or anything. But it's really hard to feel any sympathy for the strike when this is what they want to turn out. Like this is your A game and you think you have a stance to strike on? You should be lucky to even have a job.
To be fair, executive meddling is a thing.
I wouldn't be so fast at blaming the writers.
If they let their names be associated with this, then of course they're also to blame. What, the money's fine but not the critics? Well, frick them, both come in the package.
To an extent yes, they have to work within the bubble but even if they're demanding changes it's not the suits writing the story.
>guy founds a kingdom of dreams and wishes
>one could even call it a Magical Kingdom
>gets usurped by a collective of uppity resentful minorities
>all his hard work is dashed as he is cast aside and forgotten
man, shave the beard and he even kind looks a bit like Mag
We should have let him build EPCOT as he intended
>100 years in the making
Happy anniversary you old frosted brain
Anon write a parody for him just like you did with Bob Iger.
So let me get this straight. The “villain” of this movie was basically just trying to keep a source of chaotic magic out of the hands of people who legitimately could not be trusted to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions for the sake of trying to protect his kingdom?
Yes. He's literally exhibit A of the enlightened philosopher king ordained by divine right,
Are you paranoid, if what you fear is actually happening? I mean, Asha and her friends were planning a rebellion, and Star was making dangerous magical things happen.
Also hard to say if Magnifico was a narcissist, or justifiably proud of himself - he did learn wish granting magic by himself and build a prosperous, thriving kingdom from nothing.
The only thing Magnifico did wrong is that he wasn't totally upfront about terms and conditions of the wish lottery. Yes, people knew they would forget their wish, but they weren't told that it was less of a lottery and more of a "carefully screening the entries". Still, this is hardly a crime that should be punished by eternal imprisonment.
It's a perfect metaphor for entitled browns ruining western utopias
Uhhh morons, i read the plot sumary on wikipedia?
Adolf magnifico holding peoples wishes is le bad because it turns them into addled sheeple. He's running a slave country and stealing wishes to fuel his own power
The women were right and did nothing wrong
Long live queen amelia
So true sister
>citing Wokepedia
>afterr 2014
Double moron
>Starblob
>Magnifiplush
>The fricking goat
Does Asha have a plush?
I saw some
Yes
I hate this expression so fricking much. Anyone else?
I hate when then hire old as frick famous actors to play 'cute' things thinking they can pull in the kids and their parents. It comes off as tacky and even as a kid it made me cringe.
What was the wish
>something to inspire future generations
Sounds like a disney execwish to get more shekels
Disney's morality is fricked up.
>Animat gave it an 8/10 despite admitting the story is stupid
So annoying
Never heard of him. Is he a blind Disneygay who gobbles up any of the shit they produce?
Electricdragon505.
He does have a bias with Disney but he doesn’t always say their movies are fantastic. He’s also oddly the type of dude to have a vendetta against Trolls and Hotel Transylvania but think the Minions are cute
He also believes in the "Richard Williams was a crazy perfectionist who couldn't be trusted to meet deadlines" meme. (The Thief and the Cobbler)
>Disney proclaims this is a "return to form" for them
>They end up making one of the ugliest 2D-inspired CG films on the market
>Everyone agrees the villain did nothing wrong
>Their protagonist comes across as a bratty villain themselves
>The villain's song is this upbeat jam
>The hero's song is this looming revolution march
>Contrivances and plot holes every five fricking minutes like the audience isn't supposed to remember, the "protection oil" being the worst
>Sleepy is an example of having no wish makes you lifeless, but he acts that way at the end anyway because he's fricking Sleepy
>The whole lifeless bit doesn't even make sense because everyone in the Rosas intro song is hyped
>Even just doing basic math tells you that the Grandfather didn't bother learning music for 50-fricking-years before moving to Rosas
Did Crab People take over the people at Disney and are trying to pose as humans? Every aspect of this story makes you go, "How did a human being not realize how fricking stupid and contradicting this is?".
Why can the cat talk?
Dont ask questions, just have fun
>Everyone agrees the villain did nothing wrong
the main thing he did wrong was refusing to give the wishes he won't grant back. But the movie doesn't give him much of any motivation to not give them back in the first place.
either
A. they could have gone more into his motive of WHY he wouldn't give them back (i.e. he doesn't want his people to know what its like to have their dreams crushed)
B they could have made him full on evil from the start where he secretly consumes the wishes he wont grant to fuel his power.
Yeah, the fix to the movie is RIGHT there. Everyone complains that Asha's motivation is she wants Magnifico to "grant everyone's wishes, no matter what". That isn't true, she thinks that if you aren't going to grant a wish at the very LEAST you should just give it back instead of hording it. In turn, that ironically makes Magnifico greedy himself, something that always upsets him.
Instead, Magnifico doesn't give them back "just cause", Asha goes on and on about how it's a "beautiful part of it", and the ending has them granting wishes willy-nilly and proving that some wishes are indeed stupid and dangerous. They just needed to keep hammering home the, "AT LEAST GIVE THEM BACK!" aspect. They try to do it by saying, "THEY DON'T BELONG TO YOU", but that's fricking false because everyone gave it to Magnifico and it just adds fuel to the whole 'he was right' camp.
The problem is that she sings about throwing caution away and proceed to cause a lot of collateral damage.
They could've had it where he uses the unused wishes as power to grant the wishes he does make, the more sincere the wish is the more powerful his magic becomes.
Then you can have him wasting that magic of superfluous stuff, like using it to making his castle bigger just because.
Basically a charity organization that spends most of the money donated to them on themselves.
Imagine buying a lottery ticket and wanting the money back if you didn't win. The people choose to give him their wishes. They know that the memory of them will be removed. And unless they are all mouth breathers they should be able to understand that not every with will be fulfilled
>>the main thing he did wrong was refusing to give the wishes he won't grant back.
Except this is shown to be a total non-issue as the people can get new wishes whenever they want. They were just too fricking lazy and complacent.
Meaning he literally did nothing wrong.
>Everyone agrees the villain did nothing wrong
Strangely I've now seen some youtube reviewers that think he's genuinely evil. Granted they seem to take the movie at it's word that a wish is the most precious thing about a person which I'd argue is contradicted by the movie (I don't think wanting a nanny for your kids is part of your soul and it looked like in the opening song one guy wished for long hair).
I've seen like 5 reviews, and everyone agrees it's a bad movie, but for the completely wrong reasons. 4 of the 5 reviews said the villain is a villain, but just a badly written one, not one person noticed the contradictions. They all just repeat what other people say.
Again! Stop watching leftoid youtubers! They are all brain rotted.
Also, how is Asha 17 with a 100 year old grandpa. Great-grandpa would make more sense
Surprisingly when you have a great grandparent you don't really say GREAT that much. It's just faster, if more casual, to just simply say grandpa.
Craaaaaaaab People

What's his tax policy?
Zero. In fact there are no taxes at all. Not only that, but as an extra he won't even charge you rent.
I knew wish was gonne be shit when Disney said it was their "first original fairytales". Fairytales as they are traditionally now (so not the original darker versions) are the antithesis of modern western writting, they're stories about pure good defeating pure evil, about objective purity and they're as hopeful as hope can be, while modern writting is all about subversion, cynicism and subjectivity. Fairytales are a lost art and it was a fool's errand for Disney to try and make a new completely original fairytale with their current batch of artists
TBF Princess and The Frog was kino
>Haven't even seen the movie,
>Only saw a commercial for it while waiting for my car to be inspected
>my takeaway:
>Magnifico: I don't grant every wish because they are usually too vague and often times very dangerous to begin with
>Asha: You can't do that! Everyone deserves to have their wish granted!
>glance over to the crackhead three seats down occasionally twitching out who would probably wish for more meth than Florida can contain
Yeah, I'm with Magnifico on this so either Disney's advertising was incredibly disingenuous to the story of the movie or the AI disney replaced the writers with needs more dev time
>would probably wish for more meth than Florida can contain
This looks like a job for Florida Man.
just watched Wish
the plot is less moronic than the children book we got a couple months ago. Not sure why they left out the fact that people forgot their wishes after giving the to Magnifico
it was a chad move to have a movie with 2 villains, Magnifico and Asha
Probably a last minute addition, it is common for those books to contain early drafts and cut content.
>the plot is less moronic than the children book we got a couple months ago
Which is?
It's the same plot, just significantly cut down and thus even less sensible
>nobody tried to save him
I thought we hated villain redemptions?
If they actually deserve them, they should have them. A female character would have certainly been given one.
>make a movie
>the main protagonist doesn't learn any life lesson
wtf how is that allowed?
>female
>learning a lesson
she was VALIDATED, incel
You mean the same protagonist who is an activist and sings a song with the lyrics: "I know I'm NOT wrooooooooong!"?
>ordinary girl turned activist
>main song is about wishing for change instead of actively doing something about it
Modern activism in a nutshell. But holy shit, none of these songs are even any good or even distinct from each other. Was it too much to pull in someone who knew what they were doing?
B O O M
DID WE JUST BLOW YOUR MIND?
I'm about to blow my own mind if you know what I mean 😉
Can we stop for a second and note that the songwriter herself was only given an incredibly vague brief about a character the production crew admitted wasn't even fully developed to base a song around?
>Trump was having BIPOCs rounded up and gassed at the time so I applied that here.
Ahsa is a black girl with a life of privilege. She doesn't suffer any sign of poverty or disability. She has friends, food and shelter. She has no culture, no responsibilities, no sex appeal, no self adoration.
Her wish was to simply make HER life happier without understanding the consequences of her actions and how to balance out the good WITH the bad. The test that living as an adult is that there isn't a simple "good guy" or a "bad guy" or a wrong or right side.
There have been A MILLION other Disney females who fight for shit that mean something in their world. Asha just ruined a man's life for her own ego trip.
Imagine living in a nation where no starvation, no war and no poverity exist while the rest of the world is in an constant state of warfare and starvation. Just for some random girl to destroy the economy and defence force, because the king refuses to grant her grandfathers wish and doesn't give it back.
>because the king refuses to grant her grandfathers wish
more like because her grandfather refuses to pick up the lute and actually work for what he wants
>have a son
>wishes to inspire the future generation
>fails to inspire his son
On another note shouldn't be his wish be granted at the moment Asha wanted to work for Magnifico, because of him?
learning to make inspiring music is hard when you'd just had a chunk of your soul ripped out of you.
He is far older than Magnifico.
I guess you're just as bad at maths as the citizens of Rosas.
>I was given a brief: She's just an everyday girl turned activist. That's all I had to go off of.
Even Phil Collins was given more to work with whenever he had to write a song for a Disney movie.
Of course he was, there are dozens of Tarzan novels, like a hundred movies, multiple TV series, and a fricking suburb of LA named after the fricker.
wait are you telling me that she literally sings she's gonna pull a "dindu nuffin" and its not gonna be his fault, LOL
how could a princess be this nigg nogg???
its a backwards step with a triple flip from Tiana's working to have his restaurant and teaching kids to do the same, LMAO
>People with no moral compass and advance ideologies divorced from reality, make a movie that confuses its hero for a villain
I'm... not surprised?
These are the worst lyrics ever.
I knew the music was gonna be shit when I heard that b***h Julia Michaels was writting it
?si=YFxTXv8G4rr2rSwX
Why would a rabbit in 15th century even know what a stock is
>did we just blow your mind
why is it this line is always associated with huge failures?
Literally stakeholder capitalism but in rap form
Reminds me of the corporate memphis graffiti in SM2
>"Shareholders"
All I could think of was BlackRock
>when the exec meddling goes too far
Everyone b***hing about the villain, but the worst part of the movie to me is that they have a character who is Dopey stand-in EXCEPT HE FRICKING TALKS. Because god-forbid you try to have some comedy using pantomime. The only way modern artists and writers can convey any type of comedy is with their jabberjaw sitcom method of yapping the characters fricking mouth.
You saw these are seven dwarf stand-ins? You fricking commit. You make it so Dopey doesn't say a fricking word and all his jokes are slapstick and miming.
So is Asha worst princess?
she's not a princess
She's not literally a princess but neither are half the Disney Princesses.
She isn't in the lineup.
Yet.
Never heard of this movie before this Magnifico guy seems interesting
I swear there's going to be a dozen fanfics and at least one comic about remaking the film so whatshername is the villain.
Or with Star boy. Or actually making Amaya evil too so her and Magnifico are an evil duo.
And they'll be better than the actual movie...
>Harder Massa!
>No! Not the jar!
The plot would've never happened if Magnifico wouldn't have spilled his secret to Asha on the day he met her. But then they try to potray him as an paranoid control freak.
>But he gives a valid reason for hoarding the wishes as many wishes are understandably too vague or dangerous, even.
Not really. He could just not take those wishes in the first place, nor give people hope that they might get granted anyway.
Then people would b***h and moan way harder compared to the vague possibility that they might win the lottery.
some wishes are genuinely good for the kingdom and/or for the person themselves. Some people get what they want, the kingdom gets what they want, the king gets what he wants. It's a win/win for everyone.
>back in magnifico's rein
>want to frick toaster
>tell magnifico
>"no, that's moronic, you're a fricking moron"
>go on with your life as normal, if not happier than you were before
>during asha's rein
>want to frick toaster
>tell ashapera
>"LOOK UNDER YOUR SEAT, THERE IS A TOASTER FOR YOU TO FRICK"
>"YOU GET A TOASTER, YOU GET A TOASTER, EVERYONE GETS A FUNCTIONING TOASTER TO FRICK"
>life irreversibly ruined
okay Cinemaphile time to rewrite the movie
>MagnifiCinemaphile was just a puppet of Amaya
>he's clueless about it
>many years ago, she opened the dark magix forbidden book and has absorbed its knowledge
>she actually consumes the wishes behind his back and creates the fake bubbles so that he's convinced he is doing something
>Asha comes into the castle, and through questions she makes MagnifiCinemaphile realize something fishy is going on
>He takes some time accepting that maybe all is not as it seems
>Asha in the meantime finds out what Amaya really does with the wishes
>heartbreaking duet of Asha trying to convince him to do something while he is torn apart between his love for the queen and his duty as a king
>epic ending where Amaya turns into a monster and Asha+Magnifico defeat her
it doesn't fix all of the problems with Asha or the "wish" theme, but I feel like that would be a better plot to work with.
>Amaya BAD
women can't be evil you fricking BIGOT INCEL!!!
Magnifico is a facist and patriarchist misogynist!!!
>White Man's Burden.
>let a bunch of brownoids don't charge them rent
>grant them any wish they want for awhile but have to pull back
>angry brownoids want unlimited wishes "gibs" so they revolt and kill the king
did a bunch of chuds write this movie?
>Feed the bears
>Get eaten by the bears
Remember when Velma came out and it was so woke, the progressives claimed it was subversive red-pilling? I'm starting to see the same reaction with this movie. The people at Disney legitimately cannot see how bad and contrived this makes their side looks.
Do I even want to fricking know what this shitposting about anti-evil oil is about
as far as I can tell it's a minor plot point that comes up in the film before getting dropped and never addressed again for no reason. Just another casualty of modern Hollywood schizoid committee writing I guess.
>Be king and the most powerful wizard in the world
>Have evil book of forbidden magic
>The book curses anyone who reads it
>Read the book
>Get cursed
>Wife and baker wash their hands with oil to read the book
>They don't get cursed
That's it, that's the whole thing
Does the curse make you evil?
Yes
So its not that big of a deal.
Holy shit. I just realized something. It was a prequel for Wall-E all along. Humans are going to become so spoiled that they forget to live. They will continue this trend far into the future wishing for every and all luxury becoming fat and complacent. Their dreams will become meaningless because they just get handed out like trick or treat candy and humans will devolve into a fat race that just wishes more. And only thanks to a pair of romantic robots and a brave captain who wants to live for a change will this future be changed.
Did i miss the mom wish or they just skipped it????
They never explain what the mom's wish is.
They show her blue orb twice but never her wish. They missed the chance of showing the mom's wish as wanting her husband to be healed. Then miss "my-dad-died-when-I-was-twelve" would've looked more sympathetic going against the king for not granting all wishes.
I though that's what they were going to do when Magnifico and Asha shared their tragic pasts. But all we got was a fricking blue orb for the mom. For frick's sake, they showed a guy climbing a mountain, a dude rowing a boat, a chick flapping her arms like a stupid bird and they didn't give a shit about the MC's MOTHER.
>the mom wish was for his husband health
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA
jesus christ anon are you fricking twelve, learn something:

>Disney makes a film that’s a tribute to their legacy
>don’t include any romance
I just went to a wedding where the bride and groom had their first dance to “A Whole New World”. Disney Weddings and Honeymoons are an actual product the Disney company. They have official Disney engagement rings and official Disney princess wedding dresses. Why? Because people love the “Disney” fairy tale love story. It’s really a shame that for their legacy tribute they decided to scrap any romance.
If “At All Costs” was used as a romantic duet, it would’ve become the next big wedding song.
>>don’t include any romance
Now you're really asking for a miracle these days. No way are they gonna want to a traditional, hetero romance where the woman decides she even likes a male character let alone loves them.
Elemental was literally just a few months ago, anon.
The lyrics from the demo version of “ At All Costs” is “I wanna love you as one does” while the final version is “I wanna promise as one does.” I’m curious if it was originally intended as a love song, and if so, who was it between?
I know the original concept for the star was a shapeshifting star boy, but was there any intention to make him a love interest for Asha?
Starboy and Asha, or Magnifico and the Queen.
The later doubles as a villain song.
All I want to know is if Asha is ever unconscious during the movie cus this and the scene in Moana where she falls asleep make me diamonds
She gets knocked around by Magnifico at the end of the film. I think she might have gone unconscious for a second or two.
Anon?
I don't get it, is 1488 some special number?
It’s the year Cinemaphile was created by Hiroshimoot
Are there no senior writers at Disney who challenge the shitty idea they are given? The problems should be apparent when you storyboard that shit.
Because we've entered an age were every writer has to be validated and writers even want more writers in the same room. Everyone needs to get a say in the creative process and it creates the two many cooks problem. There is no vision and no passion. Just a democratic hodgepodge of bad idea soup.
Seems like Jennifer Lee is the senior writer. I wonder if she and Kathleen Kennedy are BFFs
Remember in Mulan when Mulan was shown to be kind of clever and creative if reckless and disorganized at the start of the movie. And when she kind of rushed off to join the army it was out of a place of wanting to protect someone she cared about but it was also really really dangerous and kind of poorly thought out so she sucked at being in the army but then she worked harder and used her established cleaver traits to suck less at being the army and saved China? That was a good movie.
Really kind of puts Asha's spoiled ass into perspective for wanting freebies.
I remember when the men dressed up as women and it was played for laughs rather than someone appearing in the corner of my screen and demanding I accept them as women, or else the Gustapo would be taking me to the gulag for wrongthink.
Or Snow White and Cinderela being basically enslaved, and Aurora having a deathly curse.
Right. An immediate threat or an unenviable situation to be in is how we endear characters. Asha has a good life. Snow White was cast out of her home.
Even the big GIT GUD montage actually shows the rest of her team GITTING GUD as well. General Sum Yung Gai was never made out to be unreasonable or stupid to make her look good. She was a good character made to look better when everyone else was also made to look good.
Another thing, is that the opening book was about Magnifico.
Yeah, and in the end it took a combination of her feminine skills and the men's skills to finally save the day.
Yeah but Anita Sarkeesian said Mulan=Bad therefore it just is, okay?
Remember how audiences liked Belle even though she wasn't flapping her fricking mouth like a 5-year old and acting like an autistic child in hopes of making the viewers laugh? Remember how she was able to be in a magical castle and just absorb the atmosphere instead of going WWOWOWOWOWOW A MAGIC CASTLE AND YOU ALL TALK???
Makes me think of forespoken and frey quipping every five god damn seconds,
Totally le quirky
The people who grew up in the lol random days of the internet grew up to create the OMG SO WACKY age.
What? You mean react to magical things with genuine awe and sense of quiet wonder? But then how will the audience know this is important if the character isn't going OMG!!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!
Belle was a pretty interesting approach on the archetype. She enjoyed reading stories about fairy tales and princesses but had no dreams of actually living the life. She was calm, humble and was comfortable with her life, just reading books all day. She wasn't even an obnoxious know-it-all about it, just a bookworm surrounded by eccentric people.
i miss cute kind down to earth female characters
What!? You don't prefer the live action Mulan where she was perfect and powerful since childhood?
Anon, it's unfair to compare any female Disney character to Mulan. She hit that perfect sweet spot where she was self assured without being overpowered, action oriented but feminine, flawed but virtuous. She's by far the best Disney girl as far as characterization goes.
You're all going to look like idiots when the sequel comes out and he turns out not to be the magic mirror but zordon and he leads a team of local teens who made really good wishes for power, and helps them defeat the witch who wished to make animals huge and give them superpowers(the whole time they narrowly trap the monsters except for red guy who's been working in his magical elvish workshop)
?
I'm not joking,
I'm fricking serious.
I work for Disney.
The end of the movie begins with the material of the big suit they transform with falling into a celestial being named reflection made of pools of crystal water that's been infected with a sickness called emptiness, where they all learn what they really need.
And come out with infinity powers and the green guy cries and says , what a marvel.
The end credits boat is mickey mouse on the queen mary
Disney should just go back to making furry shit at this stage.
This cat is from DreamWorks
I thought it was from Pootopia.
You thought wrong
I apologise. I shall not bother you anymore.
Zootopia doesn't have animals based on domesticated species (except for pigs and sheep and goats and any other animal the common layman doesn't know is domesticated.)
I'm pretty sure most people know that sheep and goats are farm animals and thus fairly well domesticated
Apparently the people working on Zootopia didn't know that.
This movie was no Tangled but it was better than Frozen at least and it had a lot of good songs like Encanto.
Solid Disney watch.
Frozen at least still LOOKED good. This movie looks like it was an incomplete animatic.
I'll give you that, but Asha's character model looks 10x better than Elsa and Anna. She doesn't look like an alien from her side profile.
>people called Magnifico republican allegory
>The Charismatic magical King who uses the power of the state to give everyone a high quality of life at the cost of a bunch of empty promises and his subjects' personal drive for fulfilment is a Republican
*who* is that stupid?
They're smoothbrains who look at "evil king" and immediately think "orange man bad", because that's all they know about.
>allegory
this movie isn't thought-out enough for any allegories
Disney writers simply don't have a moral compass, they simply are incapable of writing basic "good vs bad"
I don't think they know the difference
They don't even know what good and evil are anymore.
>The most diabolical Disney villain that Disney is willing to acknowledge, constantly hyped like a WWE heel
>Will NEVER get shown up because they pushed her a strong woman character via the Angelina Jolie movies
Maleficent WON
The whole "Maleficent was actually good the entire time" bit was completely moronic though.
The character assassination of the three Fairies was pretty galling.
Don't forget, "Oh yeah, your dad raped and mutilated a woman."
100 years huh...., poor Walt, his biggest fear and the thing he fought so hard to maintain, his legacy, has been tarnished in the worst way possible, knowing that his last moments were spent trying to make a DisneyLand utopia where all of his workers could live at so even if the cartoons didn't worked out he could at least have that as his legacy, is heartbreaking
His face looks like that Disney filter from that vaxxer tiktok webm, you know the one.
>This thread
Everybody forgets this was supposed to be THE diversity quota film for Disney to capitalize on all of that ESG money. Then ESG went away, which is why this is nothing more than a broken piece of shit.
I still don't really understand what ESG is.
Big ass investment firms like Blackrock run by leftist ideologues put in place rules that they won’t loan you money unless you meet their standards for implementing such things
Companies/entire countries even want or need that money so you get them bending over backwards to add diversity hires, produce products about disabled gay trans-Jews that are deaf, and make Facebook posts about how much they recycle
Chasing high ESG scores led the Sri Lankan govt to ban synthetic fertilizers and induce a fricking famine
>and induce a fricking famine
Okay that's a way bigger concern than I thought this was
That isn't what happened. They tried to save money on importing fertilizer (because their economy was both mis-managed and heavily tourism dependent in a time of Covid and so they were running out of foreign currency to pay for imports) and burnish their green/traditional credentials (an internal ideological thing) by switching to organic farming without any preparation or warning time.
So...
Exactly as that anon said.
They tried to stop bleeding money and get social bucks along with actual bucks and caused a fricking famine. Do you really think millions of USD on the table wasn't a consideration for Sri-Fricking-Lanka.
>The Sri Lankan government induced a famine for ESG scores.
There is nothing new under the sun.
>Blackrock
>Run by leftists
Lmfao
stand for Environmental, Social, and governance. It's a type of investment fund which takes into account how a company operates in regards to ethical concerns, i.e., social justice type of stuff, along with the more typical financial concerns. The biggest ones are ran by companies like Blackrock and tend to rate progressive stuff like featuring trannies in advertising as positives. There's a few right-wing ESG's out there, but they're not as big in comparison. The whole thing is basically a weird marketing scheme where these funds get more money for investing in companies of dubious financial value. i wouldn't be surprised if there will be a big lawsuit over one of these in the future.
>Everythign Soon Gay
What does this expression convey?
When you nut but she keeps sucking.
Eh some jokes never go out of style.
That's not even a joke
Needs a name, sneednifico? Magnifisneed?
why does he dress like a mariachi?
Because the sequel is gonna involve guitar cases, guns, and that one crotch gun.
Because he's spanish, duh.
I knew his motives were going to be justified since the trailer. Disney can’t write for shit
I've noticed this is actually a very common trend. The male character has a valid excuse for whatever issue is arising but the universe twists them to be in the wrong.
Like you could watch multiple episodes of The Simpsons where Homer makes a promise to Marge to be somewhere on time, and we follow from his POV about how he's consistently keeping that promise in mind, but shit completely out of his control happens and stresses him out and makes him sad he might not be able to keep his promise. Low and behold he's delayed and it becomes "this is the last time you'll ever lie to me" where he has to go through many ordeals to make it up to her.
In this case it's more on the obvious side of villainy, but these fricking writers make it a point to have some logic on the side you're supposed to look against and then gaslight you into thinking it's all bad.
Well no see that's a bit difference. In that scenario we establish that Homer has a precedent of being late. So even if something happens and he's late beyond his control, people don't listen because it's become habit. You don't get credit because you tried and failed once. If you have a habit of being unreliable then yes, people are justified when they don't want to listen to your excuse even if it's a legitimate one. That's a moral. That's a bad example and kind of misses the point entirely.
How do you know that precedent wasn't created by other various legitimate reasons exactly like the time we do see?
Because, in real life, people are mostly responsible for their own habits. If Homer knows that odd things usually come up, he can budget more time so that he usually gets there on time. People generally don't have malicious reality warpers watching over them to make them late regardless of what they do.
Because the series doesn't give us any evidence to the contrary and we're often made well aware of Homer's laziness. More to point it's a case of personal responsibility. You don't get told it's okay to be late for work because there's traffic every day. It's your responsibility to either leave earlier or find a different route. If there's an accident or some such you can't predict it's out of your hands but a history of punctuality gives you more room to stand on. Consider the boy who cried wolf. A liar may eventually tell the truth but a history of lies will doom you.
>watch multiple episodes of The Simpsons
No thanks I'm not a homosexual
I think you have a point, but your example is bad. In the case of the Simpsons we're supposed to sympathise with Homer and hope he makes up with Marge, so it's important that we as the viewers know he isn't fully in the wrong. Usually the episode ends with Marge realising how hard Homer tries for her and there's a happy ending.
I think it's more of a case of bad guys who really aren't as bad on screen as we keep being told. First example I can think of, though it's only marginally Cinemaphile, is Soldier Boy from The Boys. He seemed perfectly reasonable, if a bit ruthless and suffering from trauma, and was actively helping the main characters yet half the cast keep telling us how he's the worst thing ever and eventually everyone teams up with the main bad guy to fight him for extremely contrived reasons.
Walker from falcon and the winter soldier. He killed a terrorist with super powers and everyone was acting like he was mega hitler for doing that.
You need to stop calling them terrorists.
You need to do better, govenor.
No i am not going to tell you how to do that, you just need to magically make everyone happy.
Maybe if you had the magic power to grant wishes people would be happy, make sure you grant them all no matter how vague or stupid they are or we're coming for your ass.
Friendly reminder we could have had Gigantic as our Disney movie set in Spain instead of this crap
Gigantic deserved to be cancelled. Everything revealed about it says it would have been an incoherent mess.
It truly is a pity, looked much better than this.
Gigantic died with old Disney, they couldn't make a genuine film even if they tried nowadays
Wtf happened to Disney? It wasn't even a full 10 years when they were still making "normal" movies, but now everything between Disney animation and the MCU is full of forced diversity with the animation side not even having any proper villains. How did shit hit the fan so abruptly?
It's not even just disney. Think about how many comic book mega mile stones were wasted by modern writers being trash. Think about the legacy of some of the most famous sci fi series of all time thanks to these yucks. Why should disney's centennial be any different. Why celebrate with truly beloved icons and magical characters when your happy meal can get Kamala Khan. Our history has been ruined.
Why the frick would Asha have a timing chart for her flipbook animation? A timing chart is meant to know how many frames to hold a drawing when you photograph them. Flipbooks and phenakistiscopes don't need a timing chart, what the frick. Was this for the animators to show off or something? "See? SEE? 2D animation isn't dead!"
Wait did they actually make the main character a fricking ANIMATOR
This shit is way too on the nose.
The target demo for this film is, "middle aged women who work for Disney"
IIRC women actually gave Wish a significantly worse PostTrack score than men (60% vs 80% positive), so the “work for Disney” part is more true than you’d expect.
The audience for this film is Jennifer Lee, a minority of one.
Kind of. I mean, she DRAWS sometimes. She'll pull out her notebook where she'll have art of her grandfather or the wishing tree location and shit like that. But like... It's never important. It's not character defining, it doesn't inspire anyone, it's not integral to communicate with Star, it doesn't help her save the day in the end. She literally just draws for the sake of it because Disney is a studio filled with artists, and this is their 100th anniversary so... obviously our princess needs to draw, too?
It's so obvious they're aping the blueprint of Rapunzel without understanding her one fricking bit. Rapunzel's artistic skills had a gigantic pay-off in the end, and that was her subconsciously painting imagery from her old nursey in her current tower. There's a plot reason for it. You don't just give characters random skills and have them SOMETIMES use it with zero pay-offs throughout the fricking story.
I would honestly accuse this script of being written by an AI if I didn't know the writing was already done before the writers' strike. Blatant shit like that is the type of mistake a robot mimicking human storytelling would to. To see a gigantic company do it is embarrassing.
What the frick man
That's like if they spent a bunch of scenes showing that Mulan is a very passionate Woodblock Printer who loves arts and crafts only for it to never be relevant to the plot at all.
>"So I make this wish"
>"To have something more for us than this!"
HEY, YAH, YAH, YAH!!!
HEY, YAH, YAH, YAH, AH-AH!!!
MOH THAN THIS, OOH-AH-AH-AH!!!
This song pisses me off cuz I keep expecting a long held note on "this" = like the classic Disney princess, big theatrical end to the song but instead it's just a flat "this" followed by the generic pop "yah yah yah" - it's what I expect from a pop singer who can't hold the note not a Disney movie. Unironically feel bad for the singer she sounds pretty good but the songs hold her back.
>recieve one of the worst punishments of any disney villians compared to the "crime"
>locked up in eternal purgatory
>your wife, the woman who you wanted to spend the rest of your life with and tought she loved you laughs at your punishment and usurps your kingdom.
Getting some mixed signals here.
he just doesn't get any magical boost from hording the unfulfilled dreams?
No.
No, he was explicitly just holding them for safekeeping until midway through after he gets turned evil by the evil book. THEN he starts consuming them for power.
"This is the Thanks I get" is such a nothing song
The chorus especially sounds like musical filler, which for a villain song is fricking embarrassing
Its also kind of lame, because it sounds like he's trying to work himself up into doing the evil thing, whereas most classic villains are knee deep in the villain soup
I don't know shit about the industry, but this seems like an obvious massive rewrite of Magnifico that wasn't handled well
Don't even need to go for the classics, Facilier oozed villain and had a banger song to go with it.
It's almost comedic that Disney's skill downgraded so badly only for it to be shown on what was meant as their big 100 year celebration movie.
Is it true that all the main characters in this movie become Disney characters of future movies?
Sort of. Asha is explicitly called out as a Fairy Godmother. Her friends are overt, cloying references to the Seven Dwarves. Magnifico gets turned into the Magic Mirror. That chick whose wish was to fly goes off with some guy who looks like Peter Pan who's working of a flying machine. I've heard people say the talking goat was gonna go found Zootopia, but I think I missed that line. There's almost certainly more that I'm missing.
I feel the main issue with him is just a reflection of the movie in general, it doesn't know what or how to convey its own messages. Part of the problem is how they can't decide whether they want Magnifico to be a sympathetic villain or a narcissistic villain, and that's partly cause by the half-assed wish plotline. You have a few ways to solve it, for example:
>If there was something more sinister about his motivations, maybe being more clear about tying the wishes to the population will and him being more devious about abusing the wishes
>Showning him more as an overly protective and paternalistic king and maybe having part of the message to don't let dictate your failures completely determine others destinies and maybe also find a balance with the protagonist
There nothing that makes him sympathetic. If fact, his justifications for simply not just giving back the wishes makes him seem like an butthole who makes rules up on the spot.
Yeah man, I'm sure that woman is basically dead inside because she forgot she wanted a magic nanny to do all her work for her.
Idk man, founding a whole kingdom that is a tax free utopia after your own got decimated by thieves so no one would suffer as you did is pretty sympathetic
found the moron
Here's an easy fix that would take one line - he's only having them give up their wishes as whole so they're more easily cowed and don't aspire to be anything but subjects.
he trolled the small peepee guy that wished a "big wiener" and give him a gigant chicken, talk about being a dick (pun intented), that dude has to fake is wish was correctly granted and probably ended fricking the gigant chicken because girls will only laugh at his little soldier
>MAGNIFICO
is on other whole level of evilness
Why even ask for wishes when the wizard who is so powerful as to literally fulfill wishes agreed to apprentice you?
She specifically wanted him to grant her grandpa's wish and I don't think a hundred year old fart has much more time left even in this fantasy setting
>This perfect Utopia doesn't have advanced medicare
Here's another thing. I don't care if he's 100. If a character doesn't have too much time left? YOU SHOW THEM FRICKING DYING! He doesn't have to actually die (Though this movie sure could use some actual teeth) but this is just fundamental.
Yes, grandpa should be on his fricking deathbed, barely able to wake up for some soup at dinner time before passing out again. So we have a real sense of urgency in his wish being granted before it is too late. Currently he feels spry enough to last till at least 110, plenty of time for asha to learn some magic.
Based on all the synopses I've read, Wish is just The Lion King, but only the first half.
>Good king keeps the circle of life in balance and the kingdom and its people prospers
>A challenger builds an alliance with individuals who feel they are oppressed and owed more from the king.
>The challenger deposes the king, lets his friends run wild and have whatever they want
>Resources dwindle and the kingdom falls into ruin.
The news story about the writer of Wish also strangely parallels the movie.
>Woman pitches idea to a studio.
>Get turned down repeatedly.
>A coup is staged, the studio president is ousted, a woman gets power and approves the movie.
>Formerly prosperous studio releases a string of flops.
Wish is an unintentionally accurate depiction of Walt Disney company in its 100th year.
i thought the twist was going to be that magnifico was using the souls to fuel his magic the whole time.
No see that would have made sense
