Pretty sure it was intended to be a Halloween episode, but Fox shuffled around the original release scheduling resulting in this coming out of seemingly nowhere. Think they did that for quite a few episodes, like some not releasing in the season they were made or even not seeing the light of day till the Adult Swim reruns.
Yeah it ended up coming out in January, what's weird is I clearly remember the advertising from the episode still playing it off as a Halloween episode. Like they made the advertising in advance and just decided to air it in January anyway.
