Chris Hemsworth along with 70% of the supporting cast was complete ass. The pacing sucked, they crammed way too much shit into it and somehow made it boring, they had giant type face explaining every town and “chapter” and it was riddled with CGI slop

I liked it but it felt really lacking in action and special effects, why does it look worse than a movie made a decade ago?
Did George Miller just give up on quality action scenes or something?

Chris Hemsworth was surprisingly good I loved seeing him go from revered leader to despotic hated warlord whose own people begin to rebel against him, his downfall was really well done and I loved his design changes over the course of the film. Immortan Joe is still my favorite Mad Max villain but I think Dementus is my second, such a hateable bastard.

      Anonymous

Dementus' people didn't turn against him. That was the citizens of Gastown. The only one that may have turned against him was the devil horn dude, because he was pissed at Dementus for killing his men when they took Gastown. But they just went rogue and left Gastown and started attacking the war rigs.

Yeah, I wish we got to see it too, but I guess the budget wasn't big enough. Although, I also kinda like it since it showed just how deadly Immortan Joe and his war boys were when they riled themselves up for war. Also, I was surprised Scrotus didn't die. Since he wasn't in Fury Road the instant I saw him I was like "Welp, he's dead"

Scrotus is the villain in the 2015 Mad Max game. It's pretty cool he makes an appearance in the movie, canonizes the game.

tbqh Miller started planning Fury Road in the late 80s and had a few false starts through the next decades, which allowed him to retool and rethink the project as much as he needed. by the time it actually came to be he pretty much had the entire movie sketched out with Brendan McCarthy plus a good idea on how to allocate costs to build all the vehicles and shit. with Furiosa I think Miller made the best with what he had

I read somewhere that the events in Fury Road take place in the 2050s. Knowing that Fury Road was kind of a reboot(because if not then Max would be Mel Gibson's age) and the end of civilization happened between the 80s and 90s, are we supposed to believe humanity would collapse into a steampunk bronze age with barely any memory of the past in just 40-50 years? Furiosa's childhood took place roughly from 2020 to 2032.

but i liked it, loads of really cool designs and characters. excellent action sequences too. Would have liked to see more of the 40 days wasteland war and immortan joe just kinda disappears from the movie at the end or is that just me? also i don't why they weren't keeping an eye out on the borders of the green place if they wanted to keep it secret so much? they had fricking windmills but they can't have one guard tower or something? anyway, cool movie, fury road is still the greatest action movie of the last century.

It's not quite that the movie directly leads into Fury road because Dementus' fate (should you choose to believe it) requires years to grow, the time in which Furiosa could've gained the favor of Joe and gotten to know the Wives. But I do dislike this ending and would've rather preferred it to be Joe inviting Furiosa to his inner circle as a reward for hunting down Dementus.

    >fast forward a few years, Furiosa still isn't able to give babies because she's infertile

google says 3 to 4 years, so yeah... They really should have ended this movie a good 10-15 years before the events of Fury Road. And you gotta feel bad for Charlize, there was no reason not to bring her back, just have a longer timeskip between child Furiosa (excellent actress btw) and adult Furiosa.

            Anonymous

Charlize is almost 50 now. I just think they should've picked someone besides Anya. She's good in the movie, but doesn't really have the look to pull off playing Furiosa convincingly regardless of how well she acted.

Yeah. Honestly, Anya does not have the physicality for that kind of action work and i gotta say Charlize's Furiosa had a certain mannish aspect that gave a great deal of believably to her position in the society of the citadel, and that is completely absent this time around.

Worst Memorial Day box office in 41 years.
Btw that's not even adjusted for inflation and there's a real possibility thay Furiosa will make less than the Garfield movie, which is only playing at standard theaters.

Guys I want to make my own post-apocalyptic setting but I always feel like I’m ripping off Fallout/Mad Max. What do?

      Anonymous

Just rip it off. If it's good enough, it'll be seen as homage.

        Anonymous

If you think it's 'ripping off Fallout/Mad Max, consider a change in the scenery. Those both are desert wastelands more or less. No signs of greenery. That automatically avoids the comparison.

I kind of wanted to write like a very diverse wasteland, where each state is different. Like North/South Carolina is now called “The Great Carolina” and is inhabited by numerous different tribes who are at war with each other, or have Florida just be a giant marsh land where people ride mutated alligators through the swamps like horses. Kind of like a fantasy/post apoc mix

That sounds great, anon. Even if elements veer similar, so much rips off from so much. It's okay to have similar elements. Sounds like you're off to a good start.

I have like multiple pages of lore/world building for the setting, but I don’t really know what to do with any of it. I usually do it just for fun but it’d be nice to make it into a book or game one day

it's literally UE5. You can see the distinctive way light, rock bricks etc look with UE5 nano/lumen. The problem though is even UE5 can look much better with care (while still clearly looking like UE)

This movie is like an ode to Immortan Joe and the Citadel

    >Joe is a bit younger and stronger, even People Eater can still stand
    >War Boys are as devout as ever, even if chosen at random
    >Wives are given three chances, and even if they can't give healthy babies they can still be Milk Mothers
    >Furiosa, a woman, is promoted to Imperator even after her initial failure because she managed to capture Dementus
    >Joe is shown to be both charismatic and calculating
    >Dementus on the other hand is a hack who's only coasting on charisma and cheap tricks

No wonder the Citadel remained strong for decades

They're both despotic warlords, it's just that Furiosa ends up in Joe's camp by circumstance, and her beef with Dementus is far more personal.

Praetorian Jack is Furiosa's very Mad Max coded Beau who's basically got the job we Furiosa had as Imperator at the start of Fury Road. She joins his crew and they fall in love and frick.

            Anonymous

Please, dude(?). When you used the word 'coded' last time I felt a bit of a shudder but I thought, it has some validity of use. Now you are going to use the fricking word "beau"? You need to go back to /lgbt/. (Take George Miller with you)

Yes, in fact a lot of it is the same, repurposed. It feels a bit more orchestral all around, but it rings in your head after the movie is over just the same.

Yeah...the Fury Road score isn't actually memorable. They just play that one bar over and over and over and over. That's why you think it's memorable and it's the only thing you remember about the score.

This is what inevitably happens when the board becomes infested with rage bait zoomers who are trying too hard to play to some perceived rightoid ideal. Hollywood is full of lefty-woke propoganda, but every once in a while there's a legitimate kino made with a real artist. George Miller is a real artist and he literally never misses. I guarantee you if Aliens or Return of the King came out nowadays these same kids would be disingenuously pissing their pants over those.

              Anonymous

You like it because it fits the narrative of shit being "prewoke". If it came out fresh today, exactly as is, you would call it feminist propoganda the same way you call everything else that comes out now that. The point is your opinions aren't based in context, but are empty and reactionary to anything new. You're looking for the outrage, rather than allowing it to come naturally. And as a result you make yourself and people who hate wokeshit look bad by association because you have no legitimate metric by which you're judging.

I mean he did go around the wasteland torturing and murdering people brutally for his own amusement for years and he had Furiosa’s boyfriend dragged around on a motorcycle and eaten by dogs from the legs up, she realized that just a simple kill on him wouldn’t suffice after him taunting her.
