Dude, you're still 18. You definitely have the time and malleability to learn. I'm 29 and I started a bit after the pandemic (producing music and mixing tracks) and it's more fun than any fricking video games

        1) make music at leas one person [YOURSELF] likes
2)... maybe you find more people that like your music so you don't change your style to fit other people's enjoyment (like POP music), but instead expand your music horizons by discovering other styles and take the parts that you want to make more music of
        3) Profit

Well, I’m assuming that you want to make electronic considering the thread. Honestly I’d download something like FL and learn how to use all the features(there’s a lot of tutorials for every feature like mixing and mastering, how to use the piano roll, etc) and pirate high end synths

Selected Ambient Works 85-92? That album was never really meant to exist? The owners of Apollo Records came to the club he was working at and they fricked him up on acid after and they got him to sign away a few tracks. The album sounds like ass (not the tracks, but the sound quality) cause the selection was made from old reused DAT tapes.

I've listened to some Squarepusher stuff. Feed Me Weird Things is good, he has a few other nice tracks. But he's not my favorite. Has a bunch of blah stuff. However.

The very best concert I ever went to in my entire life was a Squarepusher show in 2005. It was up in this side room off from a main concert hall where smaller shows could be played, housing about 200 people. Mid-sized room, drinks, opening act, cool. There were these frat boy dudebros there for some reason. I think Tom himself quietly walked past me in black to get a drink or go do something. Young people were actually dancing and just messing around in the middle of the room to opening music

Tom gets going, he's got a laptop and a bass, starts using the two instruments together. After about 20 minutes of this the frat boys are completely sold, THIS GUY IS CRAZY WHAT THE FRICK YAAAAAYYYYY, room loves it. Nice glitchy autism for a good 100 minutes or so, then he does two encores, the first two tracks from Big Loada, everyone cheering. Great fricking show, happy energy. Saw Autechre in the same little room around that time.

The music video for Windowlicker was so unbelievably perfect that it caused Chris Cunningham to have an existential crisis and practically derailed his career. He knew deep down that he could never top it.

            He's an insanely good musician.
He has the talent to make noise smooth.
And he has the talent to make going from absolute chaos to perfect ambient work.

              Anonymous

He's a good producer but his music is generic as frick. People like Andy Page and James Holden were doing the exact same shit 20 years ago, all without the kinds of software that are available today.

He is an autistic moron. The way he makes music is no different from an AI making random noise. Sometimes he comes up with something great just randomly. Windowlicker is one of the songs where he managed to create something that sounds cool.
He is massively overrated by pseuds. He is no genius, just an autistic man messing with sounds making literally tens of thousands of songs until someone looks at the pile and picks out something that can be released.
He has maybe 4 good songs at best.

It's alright. His stuff that came out afterwards is pointless. He's the sorta guy that releases any old garbage whenever he needs money, and people buy it up in droves.
