It could go both ways. You could either get disgusted by the plastic whimsy of it all, or it could circle back around and you become immersed in the plastic whimsy and genuinely enjoy yourself.
It's all a matter if you can "let go" or not, which isn't always easy with a head full of acid.
I watched The Green Knight on shrooms and was blown away. when he was walking around the giants I thought I was in the treetops looking down below and fearing a giant would kiss me for some weird reason. shrooms!
I liked watching always sunny on acid, not for the visuals, but because my increased emotional sensitivity would make the belligerence between the characters even more entertaining.
Man with a Movie Camera (no dialogue, but very compelling)
Johnny Corncob (cool illustrations, simple story)
Eraserhead (incredible, but dark in tone)
Donnie Darko (more conventional movie, a funny dark comedy)
Upstream Color (a more indirect/abstract narrative, but depressing)
Millennium Actress (if you want something somewhat positive, which might be a good idea)
The Color of Pomegranates (only if you like to really space out, very abstract, minimal dialogue)
>2OO1 >Amadeus >Bridge on the River Kwai >El Topo >Apocalypse Now >The Shining >Ben-Hur
El Topo and Angel's Egg are great choices
Mad God
Good choice
can you watch movies on acid? I've only ever done shrooms and looking at screens on those is way too overwhelming
Just do a more moderate dose
how would acid change my experience of this film?
t. acid virgin
Don't watch a movie for your first time doing acid, do stuff with your friends
I loved it sober. I should have clarified the only reasons I didn't put it as "great". One, because it's very grim, but I could have just said that, since it might not matter to OP. But two, I felt many of the "real life" actors/scenes broke the spell I was under. Which might be more jarring while on drugs, but maybe the opposite. Definitely worth trying, though.
nerve staple yourself my dude
Based uppity drone punisher
Nature documentaries are absolute kino on weed or acid.
But you have to screen them beforehand to discard any that have climate change scare tactics in them (which is a lot of them).
Space documentaries are good too.
"Home" has a ton of climate / pollution content, but it's absolutely beautiful and very striking. I'm tentatively adding that to OP's list, since I haven't seen it in many years.
Only for short periods during the peak, I usually find myself wanting to go for a walk and/or listen to music anyway
After a few hours I'm down for a movie
Acid tends to be less head fricky than shrooms as well so there's that
You're right in that you won't be able for it when you're peaking, but the comedown can last for many sleepless hours. Even Valium can't kill a trip in my experience, just makes the visuals go away.
I think I remember hearing that acid lasts like 24 hours or more and that's why I never took it. tripping for 8 hours on mushies was wild enough for me.
Fellowship was fantastic when tripping. The live Led Zeppelin film, How the West Was Won was pretty cool if you like boomerrock. Watch most of Mars Attacks one time, it was underwhelming while tripping.
I used to be big into Halo and quite good at it. Playing when tripping is quite the experience, you get pretty lasered in.
Last game I played while tripping was Overwatch. It was incredibly colorful
And yeah you'd think you'd get distracted or confused with a game to not be able to play properly, but instead you get in this weird focused trance
I like watching videos of live music performances on acid. If I start tripping real hard I just close my eyes for a bit. Also yeah screens don't mix with shrooms
the trees, a river, the sky. even your bathroom floor tiles are probably more engaging than a movie would be on lsd. staring at screens on psychedelics is a waste of time. close your eyes, you will see things more intense than any movie.
I watched that one for the first time with some DUDE and I can't even begin to fathom watching it on shrooms. Sounds like a goddamn nightmare, though perhaps the fun kind.
It wasn't too bad. I think the music helps make it mellow. The visuals are awesome. Some other more mundane movies bother me more on shrooms. I am trying to remember the one I had to shut off.
I tried watching this once after dropping acid and the combination of live action rotoscoping + dystopian themes bugged me out too much to finish. Guess I got filtered because there are some great recs in this thread I’ve seen tripping
mid and boring movie, only the intro is good
The fact that you called it both boring and mid speaks more about yourself than anything anon.
Same. I don't understand why people watch gnarly stuff on psychedelics. I get it if it's a movie with trippy visuals and sounds, but I've seen people recommend fricking Requiem for a Dream of all movies.
I don't know why anyone would recommend Req unless it was just a mean-spirited prank. It isn't trippy, as you noted. It's a bummer, but it has nothing to suggest it for this sort of viewing. Of course, they could just be idiots, which is the main flaw in taking suggestions from random people at face value without attempting to discern whether that opinion is worth anything.
Another anon had suggested Mad God up above, which is also very depressing and grotesque, but at least it's fantastical, visually unique, and utterly bizarre. Some people wouldn't be able to handle something like that on drugs because they'd be overwhelmed, but other people can watch misery and not let it affect their own headspace too much. One has to know oneself in this regard, especially if planning to watch the movie alone.
Not a movie recommendation but listen to b***hes Brew and On the Corner by Miles Davis while you're peaking. Close to the Edge by Yes is also incredible.
What is the mexican movie with a neon devil in a hallway? There was a webm posted before. The recent puss in boots for ego death. Might result in actual death, careful.
Where do you get acid? The chemist that sold the majority of it was arrested a couple years back. Now unless you know an actual chemist you are probably getting some sort of concoction similar but not the real deal.
There's a few hundred analogs out there that are all variously close enough for the average shitheel to not have any clue or care whether or not what they're getting is "real".
Back in the day when Silk Road was around I just ordered from the best reviewed guys. There was a group going around secretly ordering and testing stuff to see if it was legit. Not sure if that still applies in the current year. But ultimately it was great stuff, who cares if it was the "real deal"? Just because acid was the first doesn't mean it's the best.
Wow this is so niche i didn’t even think anything here would know about it
Yeah I liked it tripping, it's wierd but short enough you can get through if the trip hits bad and the music is cool, and the story is basically just Star Wars so it's easy to get into.
>acid >watch movies
No. You watch movies high (on weed). Acid is going outside in nature not watching a fricking screen.
Rethink your life. Literally. It's good for that. I take 14g of shrooms every 5 years for a mental reset.
I've done both and both things have positive and negative experiences. Especially LSD can be a bit wierd outdoors, shroom trips are good outdoors during the day though (although my favorite LSD trip was at night and me and my friend were driving around in the country at night during thunderstorms listening to amateur bootleg hip-hop, that was really fun). Second best was probably shrooms mostly indoors watching Fear and Loathing and Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii, with periods in the back yard laying in grass petting animals.
The only person ITT who has posted a decent thing to watch tripping.
Also, Quest For Fire. But as other anons said it's more fun to listen to music and go for a walk etc.
Wave Twisters is a lot of fun tripping acid. I'd imagine Apocalypto and some others might get too intense.
There are states where it's not explicitly banned and could be argued that it's chemically distinct enough from LSD to not get caught under the Federal Analogue Act if you don't intend on consuming it
However, you would not win that argument if you get caught with it, and many fewer labs are shipping research chemicals to the US now. Probably less risky to get normal acid on a DNM at this point
>Take acid >Friends show me Harry the Harlequin Baby and other animations by the same guy trying to make me freak out >My reaction is "damn this is cool, why isn't everything like this?"

This shit drives me crazy. I want to watch old Nature documentaries that used to be on PBS. None of the activism BS. Now they all have it.

On the way up up of a low dose, yeah. Doesn't happen to everyone, and if you took enough to melt your face off it probably won't matter either way.

my bloody valentine---Loveless
Van Morrison---Astral Weeks
Swans---To be kind (or any of their post rock records)
St Vincent---Strange Mercy
Talk Talk---Spirit of Eden
not the best 5 but just some off top of my head that are all very different experiences, next time I know I wanna hear King Crimson Lark's Tongues in Aspic, and probably Captain Beefheart Mirror Man
The intro scenes to this film are so good that I felt like pinching myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Even though it's a little spoopy, the semi-surreal elements definitely make this a solid choice. Nice call.
Checked. “The Fall” 2006 is beautiful.
I remember this being beautiful, but boring. That was when it released though, so I might feel different now. The premise was certainly strong.
Other parts are good too, especially the fantastic scene with the guy and his dog crossing the plaza. It's far from the greatest film ever, but mid and boring are two words that definitely don't apply. The plot and writing are not great, and the pacing can be uneven, but the cinematography, stylization, and atmosphere are striking.
Psychedelics are for going outside (with safety precautions), or perhaps (mushrooms) for sitting in your room at night with the lights off to do some introspection. They're really not appropriate for film, actually I'd be surprised to hear any director (if they had the liberty to speak openly) recommend anyone watch a film on LSD.
horseshit. falilv and naked lunch are optimal for tripping. mad god and the ruins are fricking demented (horrible suggestions). any subtitled film is a moronic idea while tripping. who the frick wants to READ a movie while tripping? some of you, i think, have never actually tripped when watching a movie.
Anons always post this in acid rec threads lol. “I know you’re asking for film recs but who cares, don’t do that!” Not everyone wants to go outside and look at trees while they’re tripping.
Here's a recent film I think could be interesting on acid.
It has lie a 10 minute section in the middle where the screen goes black and then starts flashing colors, the section is meant to be watched with your eyes closed.
Ironically called Samsara just like the OP film.
While the first person might seem fun, it's not really shot in a way that it's gonna be enjoyable imo. Too much blur in the action, colors really don't pop.
I also recommend Yellow Submarine. It is a shit film but it was made for exactly 1 reason and this is it. No one will ever prove to me that it was designed for lsd and that it wasnt written by someone who took acid during their sessions. It is some of the only lsd candy from that era to be LIGHT. FLUFFY. SOFT.
Old cartoons can be a lot of fun to watch tripping too. Grampy can put on one hell of a shindig.
I liked it on shrooms. Even my friend who isn't a big fan of Beatles was alright with it tripping.
Don't waste your trip watching movies. Go do stuff. Literally anything. Preferably outside.
This can be very stupid as just roaming around "outside" allows interaction with random people that may not react well to someone tripping. More stress from bad encounters makes a trip worse and can increase the potential for misplaced behavior and increase bad encounters.
Main thing is if you're having a good time you're having a good trip, so don't do things you are sure will dislike or cause you discomfort.
"Dude the only thing that's appropriate to do when tripping is be in heckin nature" has been added to the list of things redditors actually believe and say.
Invoking outside sites is only done by migrants from them..
>dude don't watch a screen when you're trippin bro go outside listen to le stream flowing and look at the wind in the trees it's so epic bro
this is funny, given that it's myopic, when tripping usually makes you more open minded.
I liked the night hike I did tripping. Everything looked like I was seeing it through a kaleidoscope. I enjoy just sitting and watching movies though. Seems to me exerting myself makes the trip shorter and duller.
Being outside when you're tripping can be fantastic, but most other things I've done while tripping have been too. It's not the only thing that's lots of fun to do. Being at a concert, watching certain films, sitting around in a living room with friends, listening to music, etc. I've heard sex is pretty interesting too, but never done that while tripping. Only things I'd definitely avoid are anything involving responsibility or maybe work, anything that could get you arrested, being around anyone who's sober and would be bothered knowing you're on drugs, shit like that.
I usually trip during the day and I like to think I'm pretty inconspicuous on acid. I've always wanted to go on a train journey tripping but I imagine the amount of people in confined spaces would freak me out, the ticket systems would probably fluster me too.
>the ticket systems would probably fluster
I could imagine this happening and finding it hilarious then laughing like a madman, people starting to stare at you. Does seem like it would be neat to be in a train riding though the countryside though -- that could be quite interesting tripping, you might feel like the train is going really fast, like a space ship, or like it's going slow, idk.
I'm not sure if exertion itself dampens the effect, but the other aspects of hiking have that result. You have to focus a lot on where you're going, how you're feeling, making sure you're drinking water, judging your temperature and sun exposure, etc. So much of your headspace is spent on paying attention to all the things going on with yourself and your environment that the psychedelic effects end up being pushed out of your direct awareness...

... which is why all of these things pair well. Any activity where you can sit back and allow yourself to soak into the environment or whatever you're focusing on will make the psychedelic effects much more prominent in your awareness. But appropriate activities are really dependent on the person. Some people can take acid and then go to a house party with people they've never met, others can't handle being out in the hills with their close friends because they feel exposed or in public or something...

... and I know people that literally cannot be in public. I did a mild amount once, totally lucid, and took a friend with me out of the house briefly. A few blocks away I turned around to see that he had removed his shoes and was walking through some random patch of dirt by the side of the road for the feeling of it, so I had to take him back to the house because he clearly couldn't handle being in public. I thought he'd be fine because he said he'd tripped many times, but the lesson is you should always test how you and your friends are responding before going out.
I can be inconspicuous as well, but the pupils are a giveaway. Anyone talking to you face to face is going to think you're on drugs right away if your eyes are visible. Personally I think being stuck on a train for six hours would be boring, but if trains are your thing, go for it. I know I would start to get nervous as well, thinking "is everyone wondering about the guy silently looking outside for four hours uninterrupted?".
so far i've seen alice in wonderland, the shining and monty python and the holy grail. alice was the best for sure, the other two were pretty forgettable as far as experiences go
"Dude the only thing that's appropriate to do when tripping is be in heckin nature" has been added to the list of things redditors actually believe and say.
wow I've been btfo are you Timothy Leary how will I recover going to concerts and watching movies while tripping is super gay never do anything else but muh nature while tripping bros it's over for me AAAAAAHH
tripping in nature is much more preferable on shrooms. when psychedelic substances are in your body, the wavelength the mind is on, tends to better align with the surroundings accordingly. lsd, while derived from a natural substance (ergot fungus), is manufactured in its process, especially these days. so, the wavelength is more of an unnatural nature. so an unnatural setting (not free/out in nature) responds better to the brain's wavelength. shrooms are natural. natural wavelength, which = nature/outside is optimal. my breakdown of it, anyway. optimization(?) for substance taken.
similarly, X makes you want to be social/party, so clubbing is great with X. the setting best optimizes the experience of the drug, when drug/setting wavelengths(or whatever/however you want to think if it), are aligned properly.
American daytime TV talk shows.
Please no. Wendy Williams has always creeped and freaked me out, and I've never even touched LSD.

This is tense as frick, I don't think I could handle it
- fear & loathing in las vegas
- spawn
- the wall
i microsdoses in a basement untaxed drugs are shit
Psychedelics are for going outside (with safety precautions), or perhaps (mushrooms) for sitting in your room at night with the lights off to do some introspection. They're really not appropriate for film, actually I'd be surprised to hear any director (if they had the liberty to speak openly) recommend anyone watch a film on LSD.
shut up nerd
>muh sacred sacraments
I forgot to write dissos are really good for movies. Thats why I posted that pic
There are numerous situations that are enhanced by psychedelics. le going outside is not the only thing that's really fun to do when tripping.
maybe a little on the nose but ive always had a great time watching this while tripping
Pretty crazy on psychedelics bros
The only person ITT who has posted a decent thing to watch tripping.
Also, Quest For Fire. But as other anons said it's more fun to listen to music and go for a walk etc.
horseshit. falilv and naked lunch are optimal for tripping. mad god and the ruins are fricking demented (horrible suggestions). any subtitled film is a moronic idea while tripping. who the frick wants to READ a movie while tripping? some of you, i think, have never actually tripped when watching a movie.
>acid
>watch movies
No. You watch movies high (on weed). Acid is going outside in nature not watching a fricking screen.
Rethink your life. Literally. It's good for that. I take 14g of shrooms every 5 years for a mental reset.
>Acid is going outside in nature
Frick that shit. I'm staying inside.
Anons always post this in acid rec threads lol. “I know you’re asking for film recs but who cares, don’t do that!” Not everyone wants to go outside and look at trees while they’re tripping.
that Sopranos episode where Tony is in a Coma and dreams he is Kevin Finnerty
Here's a recent film I think could be interesting on acid.
It has lie a 10 minute section in the middle where the screen goes black and then starts flashing colors, the section is meant to be watched with your eyes closed.
Ironically called Samsara just like the OP film.
Hausu is pretty wild on acid.
#justiceforkungfu
Hardcore Henry
Never done acid, never seen the movie
While the first person might seem fun, it's not really shot in a way that it's gonna be enjoyable imo. Too much blur in the action, colors really don't pop.
best action movie ever made, imo.
I watched Ponyo last time I did it and had an absolute blast, highly recommend
Valerian or anything Ghibli. But the actual answer is silent darkness
listen to music and stare at the spectrogram instead
your brain fills in the gaps and creates kino that stays with you
Does acid still exist since
William Picard got arrested?
Enter the Void of course, it's a no-brainer
This movie always comes up, but I've never watched it
Is it and interesting kindof confusing or more distressing?
Distressing and confusing, it has cool cinematography so watch it for that
The director's cut was much longer than necessary.
David Lynch
I also recommend Yellow Submarine. It is a shit film but it was made for exactly 1 reason and this is it. No one will ever prove to me that it was designed for lsd and that it wasnt written by someone who took acid during their sessions. It is some of the only lsd candy from that era to be LIGHT. FLUFFY. SOFT.
Old cartoons can be a lot of fun to watch tripping too. Grampy can put on one hell of a shindig.
I liked it on shrooms. Even my friend who isn't a big fan of Beatles was alright with it tripping.
Invoking outside sites is only done by migrants from them..
>tfw took 100mg of edibles and watched 1930s cartoons for several hours straight
Felt like I was transported to that time it was great
I love watching old Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes with some dude weed, but it later feels like a pathological escape into nostalgia
>acid thread not full of bitter dorks crying about people using drugs
first time in a while
don't summon them
Tro(o)n was quite immersive.
>dude don't watch a screen when you're trippin bro go outside listen to le stream flowing and look at the wind in the trees it's so epic bro
this is funny, given that it's myopic, when tripping usually makes you more open minded.
Hot kino coming through
so far i've seen alice in wonderland, the shining and monty python and the holy grail. alice was the best for sure, the other two were pretty forgettable as far as experiences go
Don't waste your trip watching movies. Go do stuff. Literally anything. Preferably outside.
>waste your trip
No such thing as a "wasted trip", and besides you can get like 20 hits of acid for $40
I watched The New World by Terrence Malick on mushrooms with my ex and it was pretty memorable. Probably better choices out there though.
Just go outside and look at the trees and clouds
"Dude the only thing that's appropriate to do when tripping is be in heckin nature" has been added to the list of things redditors actually believe and say.
btw ive never tripped, just drank beer and watched tv. oh and one more thing, idk if it's relevant - im trans
wow I've been btfo are you Timothy Leary how will I recover going to concerts and watching movies while tripping is super gay never do anything else but muh nature while tripping bros it's over for me AAAAAAHH
go outside Black person
consooming on acid is moronic
tripping in nature is much more preferable on shrooms. when psychedelic substances are in your body, the wavelength the mind is on, tends to better align with the surroundings accordingly. lsd, while derived from a natural substance (ergot fungus), is manufactured in its process, especially these days. so, the wavelength is more of an unnatural nature. so an unnatural setting (not free/out in nature) responds better to the brain's wavelength. shrooms are natural. natural wavelength, which = nature/outside is optimal. my breakdown of it, anyway. optimization(?) for substance taken.
similarly, X makes you want to be social/party, so clubbing is great with X. the setting best optimizes the experience of the drug, when drug/setting wavelengths(or whatever/however you want to think if it), are aligned properly.
Dune 2 was amazing on acid
I know it's been memed to death at this point, but it's exactly what you want if you fancy sitting down for a time
Watched pic rel on 2 tabs and it was excellent
Here's an acid western about a cowboy looking for DMT
Any David Icke presentation
Justice League 2017, unironically
i've never understood this take acid to stare at a screen thing
just take 400ug and close your eyes homie, you won't ever see anything cooler
