Why didn’t Nolan use CG for the atomic bomb? The studio explosion he used was like a 15-foot plume at most, you can see the fricking sparks flying out. Really weird and embarrassing.

      Anonymous

CG sucks get over it zoom zoom the scene was kino

        Anonymous

No there’s times when CG is appropriate. I didn’t say make Oppenheimer himself CG. If the t-rex in JP wasn’t CG it would have been shit. If Nolan wasn’t going to go all out on a really well made replicate explosion with proper scale and equipment then it should have just been CG.

The explosion was perfectly fine and reprsentative of the actual Trinity test. People who want it be bigger have seen the explosions that happened after Trinity that were much bigger

            Anonymous

Three of the shots are very obviously different explosions and do not paint a convincing progression. One shot of a tall orange fireball in the air is followed by a smaller brighter explosion right on the ground. It makes it look like the explosion has reversed instead of progressed.

Nah, they they made an atom bomb look like a large gasoline fire.

Lynch did it better with a good blend of CG and practical.

half of the Los Alamos was passing intelligence to the soviet union.

not because they were communist, not at all, but because they'd realized long before even theorizing the nuke that having 1 country on the planet with the ultimate weapon would mean that that country would be very likely to go on an autistic chimpout of world conquest sort of like the US did IRL post 1991

Giving the nuke to the soviets was the only way to establish a balance of sorts between the West and the Rest

unfortunately the movie misses that whole point for a much cheaper Amadeus style Mozart v. Sallieri drama

    Little known Oppenheimer facts:
    1. He tried to murder his professor and mentor, Patrick Blackett, with a poisoned apple. He put the poisoned apple on his desk and left for vacation, telling no one.
    2. He bragged (or confided) to his friends on vacation about what he did. They were appalled and alerted the university, which found the apple.
    3. Oppenheimer was going to be expelled (and likely worse) but his powerful family intervened and caused a stir. He only got three months probation. Modern articles call his actions "attempted murder."
    4. He was on a train when he saw a husband kiss or possibly have sex with his wife. When the husband got up he launched himself on the woman and sexually assaulted her, kissing her forcefully. Then fell to his knees and cried for forgiveness.
    5. After that train ride he was on a staircase and saw a random woman below him. He put his suitcase over the railing and tried to drop it on her head, but missed. That could've caused serious injury or death.
    6. His friend, Francis Fergusson, announced the news that he got engaged. Enraged, Oppenheimer threw his friend to the ground and tried to choke him to death
    7. He was verbally abusive to his students
    8. After his fame he started backstabbing old colleagues to further his career, claiming they worked with the communists so that he could get more clout or remove rivals from his field. Ironically his own career was prematurely ended when he was accused of this very thing.
He was a narcissistic psychopath israelite that was clearly preoccupied with how he would be perceived by history in pivotal moments, like quoting that Hindu text when journalists were around him at the Trinity test.

      >He tried to murder his professor and mentor, Patrick Blackett, with a poisoned apple
The record doesn't show what he poisoned it with and whether it was actually lethal. Could have been a laxative for all we know.
      >He only got three months probation
The lack of severity in the sentence indicates that of the event.
      >He put his suitcase over the railing and tried to drop it on her head, but missed
Anecdotal evidence from Oppenheimer's friend who wasn't there, no proof this actually happened.
      >He was verbally abusive to his students
Source? Many people who knew him describe how eloquent he was in holding a room's attention while speaking.
      >he started backstabbing old colleagues to further his career
All of the naming he did was just confirming what the FBI and military had already interviewed or wiretapped out of him years before during the war. Overzealous McCarthyism is to blame for anyone's exile or downfall.
      >when journalists were around him at the Trinity test
Now you're just making shit up.
