He took whedon's formula and made it good. He injected a tone and style of humor that makes the quipping feel more organic than forced. The final confrontation of GotG was literally a dance off. If any other MCU movie did this it would be hated forever. Only Gunn could pull this off.

Yeah except that scene is god awful and GotG2 was riddled with forced humor, it's literally a common complaint you see all the time with the movie. The only reason people are more likely to accept it is because the main character is a joke that most people didn't take seriously, just like with Taika turning Thor into a joke, so now Thor can act like a compete moron and people will be like, oh yeah, that makes sense. Meanwhile it doesn't work with Doctor Strange, it's awful when they try to make him funny with that same MCU style.
