I liked this movie. It's like a return to form with the older Showa era with the lack of seriousness or stakes.
It certainly feels more like a comedy than KOTMs. The monsters were animated like humans in suits, plus the monsters were more expressive and there was no weight at all. Like you have King Kong and Scar King doing Dark Souls rolls and Godzilla sprinting like a guy. Plus the whole King Kong section just felt like Elden Ring + Monster World, especially the fricking Seath fight in Demons Ruin. Overall fun movie, lots more action, lots less humans, less serious tone.

Not much swearing. There is quite a bit of monster gore with a lot of green blood and guts, with Kong in particular eating other monsters he has killed.
Gore is on par with the other Legendary monsterverse movies, especially the scene in GvK where Kong rips the head off the flying snake thing and eats its entrails. One scene he rips a wolf-type creature in half and bathes in its blood to scare off the rest of the pack. In another, Godzilla obliterates a monster with his atomic breath and gets drenched in an explosion of its blood.

How dumb is the plot in this compared to something like Heisei's GvKG, or the Megalon movie? I've heard a lot about how it's just dumb exposition dumps that don't make sense but also say it harkens back to the silly Godzilla nonsense of the 60's and how that doesn't fly anymore.

So ultimately what is better, GvK or GxK? I have a friend who isn't huge on these movies give GvK a 7/10 and this one a 5/10. But others say it's better than GvK, with less annoying humans and more focus on the monsters.
GvK is a 5/10, GxK is a 2/10 at best.
GvK is way better. More focused. Better fights. Mechagodzilla is a way better villain.
This was all over the place, felt more like slop. Felt more empty with too much going on like marvelslop.
If monsters just came up from middle earth and G&K had to tag team a bunch of monsters 1 by 1 in clear well thought out fights, with having to save a small Kong family/colony in hollow earth at the end - that simple plot would have been way better than this evil monkey army-hollow earth people magic crystal slop.
to add, GvK was only the 2nd movie I EVER saw more than once in a theater, and that was at the request of my gf, who was not a zilla fan at all, had never seen any zilla movie before, and had a blast and was won over with that movie
I don't even think GvK was very good, but it was significantly better than GxK on every level. GxK has no redeeming qualities at all. The only returning cast were the weak links from the last one, the CGI is way worse, it's even more Kong-centric, the story makes less sense, and the fight scenes aren't even exciting.
GxK had some absolutely ridiculous shit happening but they're pretty much on par with each other. The humans parts were better but I felt like there was too much of it and not enough brawling.

Barring all the other serious problems this disaster has, the thing no one is really talking about is how utterly bad the CGI is in this one. It's yet another major new low for special effects in a big Hollywood blockbuster, it looks so fricking shitty. The fight scenes also keep getting more and more weightless and incomprehensible. Half the final fight is regularly obscured by the camera going behind buildings and dust clouds and shit instead of actually showing what is going on. Totally incompetent film from top to bottom.

It was passable, maybe only slightly worse than GvK, I know it's been a few years and not fair to compare it too, but KOTM was the worst by far. Cheap'd out with everything in the dark/rain. PS3 cut-scene tier....

2014 is genuine kino that had a skilled director and cinematographer and made excellent, strategic use of its budget to deliver one of the absolute best Godzilla films. It's far better than the rest and has real merit.
KotM is idiotic at times, but still entertaining. A distinct downgrade from 2014 with an inferior director and cast, cheaper CG (but understandable for how much more it has to use), but still had great action and an ok plot.
GvK is dumb and soulless and threw away the entire tone and style of the previous two films in favor of soaking everything in neon and synthwave music for some reason while focusing mostly on Kong. Had some decent cg and action scenes but is mostly not a good movie.
GxK is awful and quadruples down on everything GvK did wrong while also being worse in all the other ways it possibly could as well. Where I would never necessarily go out of my way to rematch Gvk, it was at least somewhat watchable still despite being a rather tragic mishandling of a once promising and cool franchise, I cannot say the same for GxK. This is a completely irredeemable dumpster fire not worth even a second viewing.

Too bad they killed him off and left us with boring protagonists. But again, the lack of a good protagonist for the audience to anchor onto dragged it down. Best mood out of all the Monsterverse movies.

Best soundtrack out of all the Monsterverse films.

What was even the point of Godzilla getting a new form? Shimo and Scar King were barely even threats compared to Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla. Maybe it was for the army, but Mothra was the only one who actually took them down.

With how well the fan films of V Gigan and V Megalon did it would be awesome to do a psuedo-adaptation of Godzilla V Megalon minus the pedophiles that created Jet Jaguar.
