As someone points out on the series (I think it's Shiv) Logan would kick a person like a dog just to see if they come back. To me, Logan sacrificing his son was the ultimate test of submissiveness, and it didn't work. It would probably had worked with Roman

He covered up killings committed by Waystar Royco employees and kept them in his employ for years. He employed Lester the Molester for decades. That's only the tip of the iceberg.

Some other anon dropped this in another thread but imo Logan, badass and cutthroat as he is, is in fact the villain of the show. And here's the thing, I'm not even saying this because he's "too mean", I'm saying this because he's incompetent as well as being evil
      >the big ass loan he takes out that fricks everything from the getgo
      >the deathpit of cruise ship shenanigans that he allowed to fester
      >not immediately cutting ties with mo lester
      >half of his brilliant 5D chess success moments in the show are really based on sheer luck
      but these are all debatable
      what isn't debatable is
      >raises his children to be in a constant struggle with each other for power, officially because he thinks it will make them stronger but in reality because his ego is so stupendously large he's terrified they'll take his company from him
      >chastises them for not being killers, but also deliberately raises them to be disfunctional, out of touch messes because he doesn't actually want them to be killers, that would threaten him too much
Logan never actually wanted his own children to have his company. He wanted to hold onto it till the end and viewed them as competition. He's right that they're "not good enough" for him, but this is only because he MADE them that way. All of the moronic bullshit that goes down in the show is a consequence of that. It could all have been avoided if he'd just not been a sociopath and raised them to actually be his successors, but he never intended do (even if he doesn't admit this).

The one question I would ask anons is, do we think kendall would have been as good as, or better than, Tom as CEO?
On the one hand, he's a "recovering" coke addict and a disfunctional mess, but on the other hand he is shown as remarkably confident when he needs to be - he basically has it in the bag by the funeral, and only really loses because shiv fricks him purely out of spite. Or do we think he's too out-of-touch and wacky/immature?

Any win Ken gets would ultimately be temporary, because he's too unpredictable and prone to falling to his own vices. The show would've ended with the bear hug in season 1 but he had to get high

            Anonymous

This is his main flaw honestly. The only thing that I would say is, on the one hand it's a weakness when it manifests through vices, self destruction, but on the other hand it also manifests (positively) as creativity and skill at improvising. Kendall's repeatedly put into seemingly fricked scenarios and manages to unfrick himself time and time again through sheer force of will; that kind of ability might be useful for waystar royco in the future, in terms of adaptability.

If he had a stable home life he would be the GOAT. Without that, he would self-destruct, either through drugs or seeking the approval of people who would exploit him (Vaulter CEO, Stewie). He needs to be loved too much to be successful on his own.

and see this is exactly what I mean when I talk about logan being the villain. Granted I'm sure he didn't knowingly intend for kendall's life to pan out just the way it did, but I think he made a conscious decision to raise him as he did which is the cause of his need of approval from people who exploit him (since that would enable logan himself to control him, and we see him do so multiple times in the show e.g. after the car crash)

Are we talking before or after the GoJo acquisition? Once GoJo gets involved it's pretty clear that the CEO post is purely to be a puppet of Matsson's that'll be burned the moment anther scandal like the cruise liner one is uncovered. A that point it doesn't matter who gets it, which is why Kendall's sad boy ending is doubly ironic.

I honestly hadn't read it like that, to me the ending makes more sense if you view the CEO position (and Tom getting it) as a genuine achievement, which contextualises the scene of him sitting in the car with shiv, now speechless at her husband who she hated being the one in control now.

              Anonymous

Nah, it's pretty clear Mattsen is going to be calling all the shots, that's why he specifically chose Tom over Shiv. In the end we have
              >Golden boy Kendall is left with nothing
              >Social climber Tom gets his dream position, with the very strong implication that he'll have no real power, and that he'll end up as a scapegoat (as foreshadowed by the whole arc he had of preparing to go to prison over the cruise liner thing)
              >Shiv will live the exact same life as her mother
              >Roman is finally free of having to compete with his siblings over the CEO post which he never wanted anyway except as a way to beat the others (hence his happy expression in the bar)

Sure he would. Kendall's drug fueled mental breakdowns are in the first place a result of his personhood being detached from the one thing that gives or he thinks give his life meaning which is becoming the proper heir to Logan. Once that is reconciled by becoming CEO he's golden

            Anonymous

that's the bad end. he's supposed to realise that he doesn't need to become CEO to feel complete. he needs to realize he is kenough

            Anonymous

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but I unironically think this would be the case. Kendall has shown himself to be stupendously influenced by structure and environment. The bad side of this is that when he loses structure and is in a bad environment, without a clear narrative, he immediately turns to drugs and other self sabotage. However, when he's within a clear structure he excels, e.g. zombie kendall being an unstoppable killer for most of S2 and then Kendall at the end of S4 totally crushing it until shiv pulls the rug out from under him. The structure and 'narrative' support of finally becoming CEO, I think, would probably enable him to reach some kind of a flow state.

she definitely didn't lose but they spent multiple episodes pointing out how much time she was spending with the lawyer setting stuff up before she and Logan were back together. Plus as you mentioned back in season 1 she suddenly gets her son into Parks which everyone is a little taken aback by but then it is never addressed again. Absolutely yes, efficient and seamless transportation is one of the best and most-cited advantages of being extremely wealthy.
Someone in Logan's position is constantly working anyway even in transit, comfortable and capable transport is more a necessity than a luxury. He's even-more obliged to speed things up if it's for frivilous purposes, every minute off the clock he loses juice.
