Is she actually good looking?
depends on what your flavor is
hard to say given the art style, but I think so
especially since her nose was changed from Beavis and Butt-head where she had more of a Luanne Platter nose.
Probably fairly average, not hot but not ugly. Should probably be more pimply, realistically speaking.
she probably washes really well, and her rich parents probably buy her the really good clearasil kinda shit that costs like 19 dollars a bottle because there's no way MY DAUGHTER is going around looking like a pizza wait hold on I'm getting a call Daria make yourself dinner
>rich parents
lol
I love that middle class is what passes for "rich" to some Cinemaphileners. Your poverty amuses me. lmao
>rich parents
if you ever have kids, make sure you kick them out of the hou-or sorry apartment the moment they turn 18 to frick up their life
>probably be more pimply
That is from birth control and Daria does anything but sex.
birth control is supposed to make them better, that's why lots of girls take it without intending to sex
leading to the water supply being flooded with estrogen because for some reason they can filter out every particle of shit from municipal water, but can't remove hormones?
Most of the hormonal estrogen in the water supply is actually from livestock
There is a laundry list of horrors that our food system leave out of the public eye. All the conspiracy theories can come up with moronic shit but the truth is far more boring and horrific. Soon we will all be resistant to antibiotics simply because of our factory farming with an over abundance of livestock. Allowed to happen because it just cost to much to micro manage with smaller farm grazing buisnesses.
now this is actually accurate
one of many reasons farming needs to be automated.
she thinks they're hilarious, and appreciates their honesty. you can tell when she's around them, the smile on her face is like "At least i know what i'm getting here. also, they're easy to manipulate"
yes yes we've all heard that, or you claim it's fertilizer runoff
question, einstein:
why is this mostly happening in the CITY then? not out in the country where cows live, where people drink water right out of the ground?
also there's no hormones left in hormone-treated animals by the time we get to their meat. the milk already had hormones in it, that's how milk works
now talk about Daria, ya rube.
When she takes off her glasses, she looks the exact same as Quinn, who is considered beautiful in universe.
Jane is definitely a looker though.
>Jane is definitely a looker though.
Also athletic, genetic lottery with many talents.
Canonically, she isn't. A lot of people said through the series that she is unattractive.
and you trust those people's judgment
anon, did people say YOU were goodlooking?
Peggy Hill was based off of her design. If you look at the Mike Judge's earlier episodes of Beavis & Butthead, you see the resemblance. IMO she's cuter than Piggy.
I'm not sure about that
for one thing, if you look at the early design docs for KotH, Peggy was.. different. and this isn't even the earliest/fattest she was, I just can't find the older stuff
Peggy looks like Daria with shorter hair.
i bet you also think any two guys with beards look alike
I imagine her as like a 6/10 who would probably grow up to be a 7 or 8 after high school once she grows into herself, stops being so edgy and cynical, smiles more, grooms better and develops social skills.
you and I might as well be from different planets
pehehehe.
That one episode with the modeling agency says that she is. Plus she does get hit on a fair amount.
Attractive enough, like a 6-7/10 that can clean up well if she tries.
Canonically she has potential but is "held back" by her choice of fashion and being Daria.
She's better looking than she gives herself credit for. Especially with the outro models.
I mean, the model douchebags from that one episode DID evaluate her pretty highly. I imagine in-world she's at least reasonably pretty, moreso without her glasses, but its her attitude that kind of ruins it for people.
Daria as a show is one of the most accurate depictions of how women. Sort of.
>most accurate depictions of how women
bit of a misspoke but I understand what you're saying
what you mean is character and agency beyond boys
She definitely gives me the vibe of "could be super hot if she actually put effort in" but chooses not to. She's got good hair, a good figure, a symmetrical face. I don't even think she needs to lose the glasses. She just would need less coke Bootle looking fashionable ones. It feels less like she isn't pretty and more that she rejects the idea that her looks should matter at all. Although we later see her own rejection of those rules cause her to be superficial in the opposite direction. (Ie. She doesn't like wearing contacts cuz they make her look cuter and they make her feel superficial despite the fact that she is wearing them to literally make her life easier.)
Yeah if she lose the coke-bottle glasses and dressed a little more casually.
i'm not sure you can get more casual than how Daria dresses.
you don't like glasses? i mean at least they're round and not those narrow-ass shits people wear today
no one wears contact lenses for themselves unless they are vain
and there is no reason to ever wear them period
they're such a pain
i'd rather get lasik
i can't even tell which part you're sarcastic about so I'm just regular-mad.
>i'd rather get lasik
most sensible option, and hard to frick up
we're all just human or whatever
>they are for driving
>but you arent driving right now
She's as sexy as Quinn when she tries so very sexy.
No.
Sad that band only did one album and two songs for the Daria movies then completely fell off.
One of the best alt rock female acts of the 90's (mainly because most sucked)
I want bad things to happen to Daria. I want her to get raped, or at least mugged by some junkie. I think it would be interesting to see her reaction to genuine trauma.
The show kinda made it a point to make sure the viewer understood that Daria was not someone to be emulated. Not at first, anyway. She's utterly insufferable at the beginning but, unlike most characters in most media, she grows as a person in such a realistic and subtle way throughout the show's run that it would be almost imperceptible were it not for the episode, Boxing Daria, really beating it into you with her breakthrough realisation that she's just as much a spoiled brat as her sister.
Since it's extremely rare for fictional characters to ever show any sort of actual, realistic growth, I would say that she doesn't need any bad things to happen to her
I don't think she needs it, just think it would be interesting to see her life derailed and herself traumatized.
it's sick that you think this. not just because it's so mean and wrong, and victim-punishing, but because it shows you didn't watch the episodes you're talking about.
I think the box episode happened a little too late in the show, but I agree.
Probably Boxing Daria is the best reaction of her to trauma. She's just like any other person when that happens, without that "I'm above that bullshit" aura she puts on herself for consistency.
In reality, she just is disgusted by the acts of her peers and other people when she can be just as disgusting because of the same reasons.
Her aunt shows the same bullshit, but worse.
To be frank, she's rather friendly and really helpful. Just really really shy. And her class knew that. She was never bullied or called out regularly. The staff, well it's their job
creeps coming out of the woodwork
yeah.. you know why those people are like that, right?
give you a hint, starts with Y, ends with U... there's a single vowel in the middle..
I have you know, I never left for the woodwork to begin with.
I have a big dumb crush on Daria. I dunno why. She just really does it for me.
Sex with Quinn
I play this and it puts me on Splendora playlists and I leave it on.
Would recommend for car rides or otherwise.
Why do women Aag?
I love Ghost World
Thanks for the link, based anon!
Here's something for you...
ooh and thanks for pointing it out to me
is it my imagination though or is this really incomplete
oh it's me being a tard
Imagine Daria came back during Saint Floyd fiery but mostly peaceful protests. "You're standing on my neck."
Is Daria worth watching? I'm considering it after I wrap up Dr. Katz.
Daria>Dr. Katz.
But for the FULL Daria experience, I suggest you click on to OP's link at the beginning of the thread.
(And google B A S E D 64 and find out all about that)
Watch it Anon!
definitely a good show. great sense of humor. Even if you don't care about teen stuff at the end of the millennium, or an honest depiction of what it's like to be a brain in a sports-obsessed region, it still has pretty broad-appeal jokes about stressed office workers, overworked teachers, and incompetent-to-the-point-of-evil school faculty.
If you enjoy Dr. Katz you can enjoy Daria. Dry wit humor is the core values of 90s comedy.
quick, favorite daria joke!
... I can't remember my favorite
This is a good one
Jake's fascination with being able to drink milk.
Tiffany staring into the sun.
Cheese logs.
Mr. O'Neil calling Britney "Normandy" in S1.
The definition of edgy.
"We were born in this room."
"Get the contacts, you'll be able to see the brimstone better."
Daria lying for no reason is always good, but one that comes to mind was the wedding episode where Luhrman goes along with it. "I'm an exotic dancer. I regularly take my clothes off!" "I've seen it".
>Esmeralda
I could go on and on.
>calling britney normandy
shit that one went right over my head before, i love it!
also yes Luhrman was amazing. best one-off character. i like that they based him on steven wright
Jokes or quips? Because it can blend together so easy.
Trent always makes me laugh
oh you just reminded me of the weird potato chip couple
My favorite joke was trent going
>I may have to quit the band
> But Mystic Spyral is your main source of unemployment.
>I don't think that's how you spell "uvula"
>It's not uvula
that waaas good. i wonder though, daria would know the word vulva... was she just like, pretty sure nobody is piercing those?
in fairness i've never heard of a 'vulva piercing' you specify which part of it. maybe it was a sign that said like "vulva piercings require (such and such)"
>OUTLET SHOPPING
I still quote "fmoss three! fmoss three! get it? Or was it fmoss two..." all the damn time. And to a lesser extent, dlavender five.
That was the one with the useless store currency, right? Or was that a different episode that I'm mentally combining?
You might be thinking about when Daria had to work at the peanut shop with Kevin. Although a lot of episodes can be centered inside the mall.
>Oh, Daria, don't be shy. Show me your boobs.
>... Hmph. Why did I think this would be more interesting?
Not just for the line delivery but the deadpan serious way Daria goes about the whole thing.
Yes
i almost posted this earlier, but it's not as funny without context and knowing the character
I loved when Daria was deliberately assigned an annoying alternative to some dumb thing, and it was run by Tiffany, and she's talking so slowly
>Making... friennnds.. is...
Fun? Interesting? Impossible?
>Important. Friennnnds can be... verrryyy...
Useful? Supportive? Purple? WHAT?
>You made me lose my place.
Tiffany is best girl behind Andrea
Her and upchuck bonked. That guy was so lucky, the bastard shot his shot and she said sure.
At first you don't succeed, as they say
>perceived ugly ducking turned super model
many such cases
the power of losing weight
Whovthe frick is Andra I only remember 1 episode where she talked.
She was mostly in the background from the first episode on until her design caught on with both the fans at the time and the writers, so they started giving her shit to do. Even giving her her own section of a book related to the show and her own bit of the website.
Kind of the precursor to Derpy without the controversy.
Burnout Girl more or less went the other way; she was originally going to be a supporting cast member but was downgraded to a background character.
Still wound popular with viewers anyway.
Background characters are just that, background flavor.
But she shows up in the credits
she does, what of it thou? she has a visual appeal
I wish they did more with Andrea. I like that she was insecure about how Daria and Jane would treat her. It makes her a bit unique.
You know, sometimes I think Daria ends up like most of us stuck on the computer doing nothing productive, realistically of course.
That is the only life available, and even it is being taken away
Just stopping in to remind everyone that Jane > Daria
>Funny
>Laidback
>Artsy
>Low-maintenance
>Non-judgemental
>Actual social skills
>Less baggage
>Would actually put out
weird wide face and geometrically puzzling hair.
daria has social skills unlike most characters on the show, and chooses not to socialize, because they don't.
boldtarded of you to assume anyone who doesn't, can't
I distinctly remember Daria being pretty autistic in more than a few episodes
nnno. she understands people's feelings and motivations better than they do
her issues come from her inability to handle her own emotions. when shit like jealousy or fear bubble up inside her, she lashes out at people because she's never had practice dealing with those feelings. not because of any kind of autistic issue processing said feelings into normal behavior. Sadly, she's very normal at those times.
>she understands people's feelings and motivations better than they do
you dont have to be blind to emotions and social stuff to be autistic. Just unsure on how to navigate it, or having to think about navigating it. NT's go through life on autopilot. They dont put nearly as much thought into social interaction as Daria. Most of her cutting comments are about this disparity between her observations and what people actually do, unable to interact or make things better.
your definition of autism is massively different from mine. it sounds like you're saying everyone smart and thoughtful is autistic. I'm pretty sure it's basically the opposite of that.
in fairness it's one of the least scientifically defined diseases since 'hysteria' so I can't expect it to be locked down like that.
but going forward, when you hear me or anyone else say 'autism' we mean 'blind to emotions and social stuff.'
They come in a bundle you can't have one without the other
I would love dating Daria and having Jane as my fun artistic best-friend-in-law.
The two of us could model for her. Daria wouldn't wanna, but it'd be like when Trent got her to pierce her navel.
honestly what i want right now is to read a transcript of all Sick Sad World bits.
Oh I foundeded it. here are the best ones
>One three ton hubby’s not enough for this red-hot mammal. The Polygamous Hippopotamus, when Sick, Sad World returns.
>Hoax, or vision? Some people in Florida have claimed they’ve seen the face of Jesus… On a penny!
>Brought back from the grave by black magic, but no one taught them to cross at the green. The Jaywalking Dead, next on Sick, Sad World.
>Back from beyond the grave, and he still won't pay child support. Undead Deadbeat Dads, next on Sick, Sad World.
>When aliens eat out, where do they relieve themselves? Extraterrestrial restaurant restrooms, tonight on Sick, Sad World.
>Her amputee boyfriend was cheating, so she stole his prosthesis, but he kept on hopping into strange beds. The One-Legged Lothario, next on Sick, Sad World.
>When he turned up his nose at accordion lessons, they cut off his inheritance molto allegro. The Severed Pianist, next on Sick, Sad World.
>A vision of Christ in a half-eaten candy bar? Talk about my sweet lord! The Immaculate Confection, next on Sick, Sad World.
>honestly what i want right now is to read a transcript of all Sick Sad World bits.
I want that logo on a shirt, which I'm sure there is a dozen variations online.
I would want it pre-worn like that (But then with high enough quality materials that it won't wear any further)
back then that is how you knew a shirt was cool and legit. the paint would be all cracking and falling off.
I remember we tried using fabric paint to re-add some letters to this simpsons one
Thrift store finds were the shit back in the late 90s, and early aughts.
Thrillhaus did hats. I've got one and I'll vouch for the quality. Not embroidered but screenprinted.
I guess I can put up with Daria being a stick in the mud if I get a cute, fun Jane gf
That screenshot is from the musical episode. That's my favorite one 🙂
no man in the series is good enough for her
that's because she's supposed to end up with daria
Jane's BF falling for Daria in the later part of the series was probably the most unbelievable part of the show
At that point I just found Daria (the character) annoying, so I dipped after that cause Jane deserved better than that crap
If she were real I'd think I were in heaven. Although that might come off as creepy and just scare her off anyway. So it's better this way.
I wonder which board(s) Daria and Jane would shitpost in.
I suppose Daria would be in Cinemaphile
Jane would be... mostly offline. i don't feel like she'd ever turn into one of us.
>Jane would be... mostly offline.
True, she values her time to much to waste it with a bunch of homosexuals when she could be creating works of displays of her eternal anguish.
i liked when she tried to do a webcam show, all jane, all the time
but I was crestfallen when she added 'except naked time'
you're pretty clueless, or trolling. The entire point of the show is that they USED to be middle class, living in Highland TX, and they worked hard to become high-powered business professionals so they are now pretty rich, so they could afford to move to a sweet huge sitcom house in a much hoitier area.
They're not as rich as Britney's family, but they are definitely rich enough that they basically have zero financial issues.
and if you want to hold onto the wealth I take it you have, I suggest you get your head out of your ass and get better perspective on what rich and poor are. They're coming for all of us, but they'll come for you first.
Its like what if twitch existed and she was just painting, eating, and sleeping never interacting with the chat. Would not be the highest earning for the platform, but be popular enough while not even trying, and making some extra scratch on the side.
Yeah, she seems to nice to be part of a club of shallow thots. At least Quinn was in control of her destiny. I admire people who can do that.
Oh dear. Poverty-kun is upset. What will I ever do?! They. Are not. Rich. I know rich people. I went to school with kids of literal billionaires and multimillionaires. Daria's family are on par with my family growing up. Pretty sure we weren't rich but you definitely sound very, very poor.
Just giving myself that (You) you wouldn't . Guess you couldn't afford to lmao
Uuu went to skool with b b b b billionaires??! Too bad YOU didnt get anything out of the place xDD
Lower class classmates help increase the self worth of the already privilege. The same in public schools, not any better in private schools.
So you were brought in to be the defacto loser?
Losers don't leave high school a virgin.
Eh, I had my own connections to get through life. While I knew the Roberts family (family who own Comcast), we weren't friends or anything so it's not like I could call him up and say "hey Tuck, how're things?" or whatever.
And I wasn't a scholarship kid for highschool IE not poor. Middle class. My family paid out of pocket.
As for getting something out of it, I mean... it set me up for university which set me up for adult life.
Eh. I went to a Quaker school. There were a BUNCH of scholarship kids and you knew who was who from various cues but honestly, no one was treated any differently from any other kid
scholarships are for academic achievement and being a minority. middle class gets discounted rate loans and small grants and pays back loans forever. rich just pay it out of pocket.
>quaker school
... like no electricity?
>no electricity?
That's Amish, not Quaker. Kevin Bacon and Zooey Dechanel are Quakers, fyi
The oatmeal box lies.
Also, Quaker schools are typically regarded as among some if the best on earth.
yeah I don't think so
>Cornell, Bryan Mawr, Swarthmore, Duke and Johns fricking Hopkins are bad schools
lol
Also, nearly every president who had kids in the White House sent them to Sidwell, a Quaker school.
>she thinks Beavis and Butthead are middle class
Sorry to break it to ya, kiddo, but you're poor white trash if you think Highland is "middle class."
Lawndale is middle class, not rich.
Highland is middle class, B+B are trash. That's why there's conflicts between them and the other, more normal people who live there.
rich is not a binary thing like you're treating it. it's a gradient.
Being rich is a sliding scale the more petty and bitter you are in life with how much you wish you had. It true thou that people working full time jobs cannot even afford their own a bungalow in most parts of North America. It is a capitalist dystopia for sure if TWO adults with full time jobs cant even afford one unless they move out into the boonies.
the areas that are too expensive to live in make up a tiny, tiny percentage of the total areas available to live in
the problem is, everyone wants to live in those places, and nobody wants to make cheap new places where they don't currently exist. and if they do, too many people move in and make poor choices, and it stops being cheap.
my dad and stepmom moved to this shitty growing town that had fricking nothing in it, because they were hoping to buy property and wait for it to go up in value and for the place to become livable.. but it didn't in the 5 months I lived there. And all the other teens my age were on meth and shit because there was nothing to do. Some of them were wealthy enough to go on ski trips and shit, and would always break an arm and we'd all have to slow down in class to let them catch up. if I didn't have internet back then, I have no idea what would have happened, but I fricking loved it. No cares, just tv and net and videogames and drawing.
>drawing
At least some kind of creative trade to produce some practical artistic stuff like furniture if you take up carpentry. I been trying to get my sculpting skills into wood carving and carpentry to get good at maybe making Norse troll book shelf braces, and ship prowls. It has never been easier making extra money if you have a steady job that does not consume all your time. Yet the housing market is just awful with people sitting on unused properties and not selling until whenever.
I do wish I'd learned some practical skills back then. Some engineering, basic repair, fabrication, soldering..
at the time i did do a little clay sculpting, i miss that.
Carry that into blender, and get good enough to produce something that will sell in a niche market. Obviously its a risk but finding ways to capitalize on skills you may have is how you can survive.
ugh i hate 3d sculpting so much though. it's like, opposite. it's like trying to sculpt with a crane game arm. you have a single point of contact and can only move things around by their edges.. i need to use muh fingees. VR is working on that.
Well, you could always make one of a kind clay busts, or miniature statues for commissions depending how fast you are in time sink cost.
>wealth is a sliding scale/gradient
So is middle class. Trust me when I tell you that Daria and her family are most certainly middle class.
Also, to , I guess my family must be unholy amounts of wealthy to you. My parents bought each of us, me, my brother and my sister, houses. I live in a coastal city of 6+million people. Average home price in the metro area is $260k (my immediate area is $350k). These are perfectly middle class.
My brother lives in the burbs. He sold the house my parents bought him and moved to a suburb where average home price is $750k. His house actually resembles Daria's. He's also middle class.
We are middle class.
Yes, being able to buy a house for your offspring is of wealth most wish they had access to. It is still considered a privilege to get your first car as a birthday gift after you got your license for a lot of people even 30 years ago.
if you think a dual income family in the late 90s both working in fastpaced office environments isn't rich, then I just don't know what to tell you. they're big breadwinners. I would guess together they are making in the low six figures.
>i guess my family
yes anon. if you can purchase a house, you are rich. Middle class people have to take out crippling loans to afford houses, but can make their mortgage payments. poor people can't afford houses at all.
It just buttholes being indignant on the haves and have-nots, just shitters. So don't even pay them a brain cell because they could be just feigning to rile someone up. It's the same kind of cartoonish ignorance you'd see portrayed in shows like Daria.
come to think of it, I think they DID have that conflict
Tom didn't think his parents were that much spectacularly richer than Daria's, he didn't think they were in separate classes, just on different ends of the same one.
It's so weird all my friends are top 10%, 6 figyre earners in their 20's and I'm the only loser without a job
I used to think Daria was hot but then rewatched it years later and realized that she was a c**t. That one girl from fashion club with tails was the nicest one.
>the follower character with a pathological inability to stand up for herself is the nicest
>the one who stands against lies and bullshit even if it loses her all her friends is a c**t
>Stacy
>Not Tiffany
Wrong
I love Stacy Rowe
>That one girl from fashion club with tails was the nicest one.
Stacy was the nicest one of the Fashion Club but still did things like dressing up like another student to mock their fashion sense.
Why she gotta do burnout girl dirty like that
>Stacy was the nicest one of the Fashion Club but still did things like dressing up like another student to mock their fashion sense.
OOF!!
torrent?
For christ's sake
my initial post was that she could afford the expensive acne treatment. That shit that costs like 30 bucks for a wee tube. I wasn't implying the morgendorffers were rockefellers.
quinn goes out shopping like every week with her dad's credit card and buys name-brand fashion clothing. that's preppy hamptons country club rich. it's not scrooge mcduck rich, but it's rich.
Acne cream being easy to grab is not nearly an issue as lets say insulin still being over priced to gouge people who need it the most. We can make the argument they should just lose the weight, but diets, and access to healthy food at affordable prices is another issue on top of that. As mentioned before, being rich is a sliding scale to anyone with less than you. People thought my family was rich for having duel income with two kids.
>diets
>"healthy" food
oh anon. you're like one of those who comments in every daria thread 'how is she thin when she eats pizza!??!'
also insulin isn't overpriced to gouge the people who need it most, it's overpriced because there's no competition.
>it's overpriced because there's no competition.
>quinn goes out shopping like every week with her dad's credit card
My dad got me my first credit card at 14, which I think is how old Quinn was at the start of the series.
Looking back, it was smart af. He could keep track where I was spending money and it taught me to keep track of my finances since he said I could only spend X-amount per month and if I went over that amount, I'd lose the card. Not to mention that I'm sure it helped me with building credit.
Also
>hamptons
We didn't go there as a family but I had friends whose families either had summer homes there or rented them. It's boring af, honestly. I didn't really like leaving the city unless going abroad.
>Middle class people have to take out crippling loans to afford houses
I honestly forgot mortgages exist. My house was paid for outright but it wasn't too expensive. $120k, 12 years ago.
it's okay anon, I don't hate you for being out of touch or anything. I'm wrong about stuff all the time, it's good that you never had to think about it much.
>out of touch
Yeah. I must deffo be out of touch, since I get called that all the time on this website. I just find it hard to believe that anyone would consider public schoolers like Daria and friends "rich"
just, rich enough to have a few things available to them that are not available to me and my family. I mean, if it was destroying my self-esteem, my parents would get me expensive medication like that, but in general... it would have been seen as a frivolity for a harmless skin condition
I actually brought it up because i have a rich friend (as in, even as a teenager he had like 20 grand in savings) who had to get a lot of expensive acne stuff. poor guy. total craterface.
they're not SO rich that Jake isn't worried about college tuition costs. especially since they wouldn't qualify for any assistance.
My dad went to school with Brian Tochi(hara)
they weren't friends or anything but he knew him. And then Dad took me to the TMNT movie and here's this guy from his school voicing Leonardo
Cam Clark?
movie, anon
and also the silly live stage music show.
any new good art of daria and brittany ?
not yet
but I sure would like to see them showering together in school.
>but I sure would like to see them showering together in school.
with or without fooling around?
without, of course! Daria would never. And she would hate that she has random dreams about it, but remind herself that she also has random dreams about pogo sticks and becoming peanut butter and hosting the oscars, so it doesn't mean anything
Britney on the other hand would have zero sense of boundaries, and would get right up in her face to ask her questions (which she would forget at first, then bounce happily when she remembered) like about whether Daria can see without her glasses, and whether she feels like it's unfair everybody ELSE is naked but you can't SEE any of them
>and whether she feels like it's unfair everybody ELSE is naked but you can't SEE any of them
>heard all the capitalized words in brittanys high pitched voice
thank you, I was hoping that came across.
brittany has such a distinct way of talking that it stays in your head whether you want it to or not
>kevin walks in on daria and brittany making out totally naked in the shower
I mean what else would they wear in the shower?
now for double jeopardy
would brittnay and daria allow kevin to join in?
Kevin is dim enough to not get what he is seeing.
Brittany was that hot (bi)mbo you wanted to make friends with.
Anyone has that pic where they look like the barbie commercial girls
Is a shame Daria doesn't become friends friends with anyone except Jane and I feel Jane is the one doing the heavy lifting in that friendship.
Daria is an anti social loner, and obviously for what she feels is for her safety and peace of mind.
>obviously for what she feels is for her safety and peace of mind.
Explicitly stated.
She said in that episode with her mother's work retreat "I actively work to make people dislike me so I won't feel bad when they do."
it sucks, but she is self aware enough and it's more to the fact she doesn't want to let anyone else but herself down
you were not supposed to actually agree with that, anon. that was playing devil's advocate.
Wrong.
No anon, you don't force people to socialize. How the frick do you not understand you can't force things on people because you think it's what is best for them?
More or less.
She's pretty friendly with Jodie and even Brittany.
Jane still does the heavy lifting in that friendship, but, being honest, that's because Jane is much more of a loner than Daria. And she has no safety net but Trent. Why would she keep failing on purpose that self-esteem class?
Jane just don't care besides being absorbed in her work. Everything else is a waste of her time.
Not really she is quite social, and willing to try new things, but she is more interest on her own stuff over everything else.
We have an entire episode revolved around her trying out sprinting but promptly dropping it because Daria was being a whiny b***h about it, hell she was even willing to try the trad larping thing with that one boyfriend who was a dick, Jane is definitely willing to leave her comfort zone
so you didn't watch the episodes, got it
>promptly dropping it because Daria was being a whiny b***h about it
Also because the teachers gave her special treatment. She wasn't getting what she actually earned.
This is in direct contrast to Kevin who takes all the advantages of being a quarterback. Also had no value outside of football, and is the only one to be held back in highschool
That whole arc made zero sense quite frankly, like someone felt that they had to punish Kevin at the end for being a barely functional moron.
Which was insane, given that Kevin is basically harmless while Sandi and Ms Barch, the later in particular, really deserved to end the series fricked up and punished for their sins way more than Kevin.
barch, that was it
Barch is hilarious. she and Ms. Li getting shit on is one of the best things in the show. they are terrible people. and it's important to have those, to contrast with Daria who, apparently, could be misinterpreted that way
You all completely missed the point of that episode. Jane did it for a boy first and foremost, and stayed as long as shit did to prove she could. She left because the boy in question dissed Daria. You're not really good at reading basic messages for tweens...
Kind of? Its a little more nuance than that, for example Jane doubled down when Daria started lashing out at Jane for "conforming" and while the guy did insult Daria the thing that made her quit was a vision of her becoming a super normy.
i understood it
also it's for teens
also don't say tweens if you're not talking about animation. that's gross. they're preteens.
is this like those "christian" universities?
I think you replied to the wrong post.
>I think you replied to the wrong post.
maybe so...
>also don't say tweens if you're not talking about animation
tweens or in-betweens?
the definitions get a little vague. some talk about tweening as the natural inbetweening process in animation, others only use it to describe automated computer-processed motion tweens.
it's amazing how people think that last bit is true just because she said it to tell him what he wanted to hear and get this over with
>is this like those "christian" universities?
idk what you mean.
>We have an entire episode revolved around her trying out sprinting but promptly dropping it because Daria was being a whiny b***h about it
Jane only tried out because the gym teacher basically called her a loser. Daria wasn't thrilled about it but apologized to Jane about it.
The reason Jane quit was a combination of feeling bad about becoming the very thing she resented at the start of the episode with the final straw being told that she needed to stop hanging out with Daria since the latter wasn't popular enough to be seen with her anymore.
anon i'm super curious
what did you think would happen if you corrected this guy?
That episode does really prove my point that Jane is more of a loner than Daria. She enters the track team just to prove she isn't a slacker as the rest of her family. Daria just wouldn't care about that. When Jane stays because of the perk and the guy is when Daria starts calling her off.
It's also interesting that Jane's reaction was to try to fit in. Kinda like she really doesn't like how her family is ending. Daria instead is capable of making friends on her own terms, and while she takes more time at that but she's pretty good. The problem with Daria is that she just can't stand hypocrisy and general stupidity, while she is quite similar to the rest. Daria, in that episode, feels that she's losing hope in the people because the only person who may understand her is deep down really the same.
Then again, it's probably the family background. Darias, while pretty much worried about the way she behaves, they'll support her when they know she's right. Jane's, except from Trent, won't
I always saw it as the other way around. Jane CAN fit in and DOES have the ability to conform if she wanted to, but that her loner status is partly blowback from her older siblings being such frick-ups and buttholes that she is tainted as a result via association.
If anything, Daria's just an excuse for Jane to avoid having to make the effort to fit in combined with the fact that Daria keeps Jane honest in so far as Jane unconsciously knowing that she could easily become just another soulless drone without even trying if she ever tried to fit in.
Both can fit in. Probably Jane more. But anyways, does that make them feel better? It's not really a question over if they can do it, but how they can do it.
If they didn't meet, Daria probably would have a hard time making friends but she'd make them anyways despite never really fit into a group. And then, depression.
In the case of Jane, she'd be struck in the same self-esteem class even if she made into the track team. And then grow complaining why didn't she choose the other path, ending as another frick up in her family.
They do needed each other.
This. Now imagine the same stuff with that limited social circle.
>Daria, in that episode, feels that she's losing hope in the people because the only person who may understand her is deep down really the same.
I thought Daria just felt lonely, which she probably never felt as strongly before having Jane be a constant in her life.
In retrospect, seems a bit odd that Jake's initial reaction there is just to yell for Quinn. Isn't Trent like in his mid-twenties?
It's more of a running joke. A lot of boys show up for a date to Quinn. In fact even a funnier joke happen because of trent.
Jake talks about how he knows his daughter. Knock at the door, assume it's a date for Quinn. Opens the door, hot ass goth girl. Jake says "maybe I don't know my daughter."
Turns out the goth girl was Trent date.
A) people don't look different in their teens and 20s
B) that wasn't strange back then. I mean, he'd be protective, but he'd be protective no matter what age guy she was dating.
Quinn dates someone new every other day, often in the same day. It was also still very common to not think twice of the age gaps like it is today. It was creepy then, and creepier more now when you're old enough to understand why that is bad.
Remember the teacher who rubbed a female student shoulders
does it bother you even a little that the idea of "things that were normal in the entire past are bad, we have only just now learned that they are bad" is itself extremely new? Or is it okay because new ideas are always right, no matter how fricked up they are.
No? Because with social media we see that a LOT of people are creeped out by it and we're conditioned to just accept it or even groomed to do it to normalize it more.
dont play dumb homosexual
especially in a Daria thread
no I mean you seemed to change subjects halfway through. are you admitting that you've been conditioned by social media to think that way, or...
No, more so it makes people in general brave and aware that others feel the same. How dumb are you? Do you not have reading comprehension?
evidently not because this reads like chinese. you keep making contradictory points.
look you don't have to agree on being creepy lusting after people extremely younger than yourself but don't play dumb when cannot understand the discussion you take part in
shut up roastie
I always feel bed when Brittany has to spend time with Daria because you can tell she always actually learns something from her and seems to respect her opinion/advice, but Daria is such a detached b***h to her just because Brittany is a ditz.
when did daria even once hurt brittany's feelings
Oh Brittany never REALIZES she's being insulted, but I still feel bad for her.
well stop? that's kind of psychotic.
a person isn't being a b***h just because you are upset.
Brittany isn't innocent. The episode with the rat maze experiment showed Brittany could be a right c**t to Daria if she felt threatened by her. It's just most of the time Brittany is nice to Daria because she knows Daria isn't a threat to her so she can let her guard down with her.
I want to cut off Daria's arms and hold her down in a pile of shit and rape her to death
Right?
where would you even FIND a pile of shit
You're trying way too hard.
I want to marry Daria and have 2 or 3 very smart kids
hot
daria had some huge breasts didnt she?
pretty damn big yeah
Seems fairly normal-sized for show's art-style, just weird to see them visible.
>female:feminization$
Download it and share it.
https://mega.nz/folder/Ja1X2CQT#Pg2ktZQ0rSwELw_i8uk06g
what is the deal with mega
it tells me i've hit my limit, but in 5 hours it resets
i watch it count down
finally 5 hours later it starts up and immediately stops again.
Don't know man, might have to make an account.
Licensed music restored.
wait am I not logged in? shit
Free accounts have a 5 GB limit. You can get around it by using a VPN or changing your ip and it'll continue for another 5 gigs.
read post again
it's supposed to reset in 5 hours
then it did but it also didn't, and now says another 5 hours.
I've never had that problem.
Are you trying to download?
The problem might be that the files themselve might be too big for you to download. I've had problems like that in the past, in general, not just Mega.
well it seems kinda silly it would download two seasons just fine and choke on one episode of the third
Don't know what to say.
then it stopped again after sleeping the computer. hilarious. i think mega is just a bit stupid
yeah closing and reopening mega fixes it, what a dumb glitch.
I hate Mega but cant torrent or have a google drive. I often just bookmark and download in batches.
whats the most recent torrent for the restoration? Isn't a new version of it being worked on right now or something?
i hope so, the first version is really REALLY shitty. boxing daria being the worst.
Added "Is it Fall Yet?" to the folder files.
Its the DVD cut though.
d'oh!
also wasn't it there already? I doonloaded it the other night, when you posted it. Are you just now telling us? Or was there some mistake
Don't know about scenes getting cut, but it has the royalty free music. Still don't have Is it College Yet?
i have little attachment to the music except for the few cases where they reference it directly, so meh.
>Still don't have Is it College Yet?
so wait, is this a DIFFERENT mega from the one that was posted before then? because that one had it. Do we need two daria restoration project megas? I'm asking, I don't know. Maybe we do.
The old folder I had on an older drive did not have the movies
The Restored movies are getting added but in separate dedicate folders.
What's it mean by restored?
and now after a restart it's working just fine. but of course now i gotta shut the computer down
>Jane, can I get 5 bucks for gas?
?si=oeFNroFV3m0XQVNp
I always found it odd but also kind of sweet she willingly hang with them on her own volition a couple of times.
I lowkey ship Daria with Kevin. It's reminds me of butthead and Beavis stupidity. Also I like the idea pf Daria being mrs. Stealyoman that girls can't trust their boyfriend around her all while Datia doing zero percent trying to lure guys.
>up-beat dunce jock x gloomer loner brain
pairing as old as time
yeah i feel like they would work surprisingly well together. why else was brittany so scared when they had that project together?
What does she think of them also have they ever hit on her?
I wish I was Trent's bf
gf*
Sex with Amy
amy is definitely the second most desirable character after daria. if i was into milfs, i'd be like hell yeah
>second most desirable
For me it's
1) Helen
2) Amy
3) Sandy
4) Jane
5) Quinn
6) Daria
Surprised not to see Brittany anywhere there.
so you like both milfs and teens but you lean harder to the former. interesting.
When I was in high school when this show was airing I certainly still favored a lot of the teachers. That ball buster feminist needed some dick so she was like at least 5th while Jane and Brittany tied for 1st followed by Andrea and Hellen.
jesus that hatchetface, what was her name again?
you got some odd taste anon.
screams "I can save her" energy anon
we all stupid and horny when young
that is for damn sure
hot. I need to draw Daria more.
Misandry ≠ feminism.
Are you people so utterly divorced from reality that you don't know what feminism is? Sweet cum-sucking Christ, no wonder you fricks have no friends, holy shit
No where in my post did I mention misandry, but the c**t acted like the stereotypical feminist. She hated her husbanded and took it out on all the men around her while still spouting slogans of female repression. Go watch the fricking cartoon you dumb frick moron.
>repression
oppression
>No where in my post did I mention misandry
Of course not. Because you don't know what it is and confuse it for feminism. That teacher is a misandrist, not a feminist. She hates men. That's literally her only character trait. Hating men ≠ feminism.
>She hates men
Specifically her ex husband who cheated on her with his younger secretary
Who apparently looks a lot like Daria teacher Demartino
She often takes her anger out on him because her "Ex isn't here right now"
Correct, though she does habitually speak of men pejoratively in general and even treats her male students worse than her female ones. She not once says a single "slogan of female «oppression»," (not repression) as
stupidly suggests. She just says she hates men in general and her ex husband in particular. That is not feminism by any stretch.
But then, expecting someone who doesn't even know the difference between oppression and repression to understand the difference between misandry and feminism is like expecting someone to understand trigonometry when they have yet to master long division.
You are huffing and puffing. Holy shit dude, get sex.
She also hooks up with Mr. O'Neill. Mr. O'Neill himself the polar opposite of her views on men. He's sensitive soft, and kind.
There's a good episode towards the end of the show. She thinks he proposed to her. Timothy doesn't want to get married and spends the episode getting pump up to. Stand up to her and say he doesn't want to get married. Which he does, ironically this only turns Janet more on that she's now found a new side of Mr. O'Neil
I loved Demartino, his rage always seemed like it would be baseless except it was always somewhat legitimate
>Who can tell me what war Manifest Destiny was used to justify?
>Vietnam War?
>That came a little later, Kevin. A hundred years later! A lot of good men died in that conflict, Kevin. I believe we owe to them to AT LEAST GET THE CENTURY RIGHT! Son, promise you'll come back and see me some day when you've got the Heisman Trophy and a chain of auto dealerships and I'M saving up for a second pair of pants. Will you promise me that, Kevin?
>Sure!
His interactions
God it has been over fifteen years since I last actually sat down to watch an episode of Daria and even to this day I could hear that entire thing in his voice perfectly, I loved that guy so fricking much
dimartino was amazing
the whole cast was, especially given that they were just theater students, not even pro actors
I remember Kevin VA saying playing Kevin was one of his favorite roles because how upbeat Kevin always was.
as far as i know, none of them were ever in diddly squat again
His rants where always great, the poor man was always at the edge of a heart attack.
Didnt he actually have a cardiac event in one episode?
I think that was Daria's dad.
I think you're right and I might be misremembering it
I think it was implied he had one in the past at that teacher-business hockey game and then wound up with a shattered knee in the latest game.
That episode where she calls immigration on him
You're so dim witted you honestly think you're on some high plane of existence. She is both a misandrist AND a feminist. It's not that hard to figure out c**t. This might surprise you but most of the adult are negative portrayals of various degrees, even the women characters. She is a c**t, AND a feminist. Which both are not mutually exclusive.
Tell me a single feminist thing she's said or done.
wait so you actually WERE talking about Barch
I don't think anyone knew that.
there's a line through your equals sign there anon, I'll just erase that for you. dunno how that got there.
Considering everything. Yes, probably Amy.
Frick marry kill?
?si=IW5p1kooztzoL_IA
How would Daria react to Beavis and Butthead showing up on her new town?
hopeful that they would take attention off of her as the newest student, then realizing they're going to talk about her going to school with them and almost surely make up / misremember a bunch of embarrassing shit
then mortified when people accepted and bent over for them
?si=f_yFY02Gu-5kfZ07
we need more of this
For some reason I like this pairing. Maybe is the idea of Britanny not realizing Daria's sarcastic comments making her get close.
make one of em a dude and I could see enjoying this kinda pairing. having a cute bimbo to care for, or a smart girl liking an idiot because at least he's nice...
>Gee Daria, now that we're not a highschool we can hangout now
Oh yeah, all the hidden tension of me pinning for your attention can finally come out
>Wow, Gee Daria. I always thought you were after my kevin. I didn't I was your thing. I would have given you a happy goodbye at graduation.
Oh well, what could have been. . . .
>You know Daria my dorm mate is out, we could have my dorm room to ourselves right now.
Wait, what's happening
>Shhh, now not the time for talking Daria
Reminds me of that robot chicken skit where Daria gets into increasingly crazier situation by being sarcastic.
Now imagine the day after, Daria looking at the ceiling wondering if all her pent up highschool frustration was just unreleased lesbian lust.
They made another skit about Daria?
Could only find it in Spanish
god I would love to have that daria figure.
is that a grown up coraline?
Grown up Daria is a kino idea but it would never be done correctly because people have forgotten what the late 90s Zeitgeist was like.
It was already done in the final.
I would like this but with Daria and Brit
Tfw
Brittany puts on her bra, it's Daria's.
Daria just dumbfounded look at Brittany breast almost spilling out of her bra on Brittany.
Brittany just can't keep her bazongas out of Daria's vicinity.
Pretty sure none of them were lesbians.
I think Usagi was bicurious at best.
>Jane, I think I have a problem
What? You realize you like girls?
>Worse. I'm afraid I might like Brittney.
You know, Daria. If we went around school and asked everyone who they thought goes both ways, I'm pretty sure everyone would've picked me
>You would've had my vote
Kek
Yeah I think the fact that she shares something in common with Kevin would be a bigger hit to her ego that discovering she is likes women.
You know the funny thing is this, doesn't go against Brittany promising she won't date guys in college.
Even though she had her fingers crossed.
Man this is a crack ship if I ever saw one but is one I like.
Kevin feels like a kind of guy who would see Brittany kissing another woman and would react by saying "cool" out loud.
Daria tries to rationalize it. Says they're just experimenting. That it's perfectly normal college experience.
Brittany not fully understanding makes a bucket list to get done. To see what they do and do not like.
>Daria tries to rationalize it. Says they're just experimenting. That it's perfectly normal college experience.
You know as soon as you hit puberty who or what attracts you anon. There may be instances of kinks and other weird fetish stuff through exposure or weird traumatic experiences. Only if you've been a shut-in or kept a certain path through religious or cultural grooming standards does it turn out you might not be straight later in life. Unless you may not believe it yourself and need to rationalize it.
>Only if you've been a shut-in
This is Daria man
Also when she dated Tom, it was extremely awkward from her perspective. The only reason she knew what to do is because her sister told her how bf should behave.
You have a point anon, I take back my statement.
it's amazing how you think you just now have a solid grip on something that has never had solid rules, has never been the way you're describing it, and is easily contradicted with literally any humans you meet and interact with.
Thanks! I also did some of these drawings.
Naw if I was gonna come at it from how the writers would probably write it Daria and Britney share a moment. Daria spends the episode being super conscious of Britney and Britney feels weird and confused about the whole thing. After Daria confides in Jane Britney finally manages to get Daria to stop avoiding her.
>You've been avoiding me, Daria
Yeah sorry. I was working things myself.
>Well I hope you figured it out because I'm still confused. You dated Tom so I know you don't like girls. And I know I don't like girls because I dated Kevvy.
And then we kissed and everything you thought you knew about yourself went out the window.
>Yeah! I don't get it? Am I just a lesbian now? Do I have to wear those drab plaid shirts and cut my hair all short?
It's good to see you're worried about the important things. No Britney, kissing me doesn't mean you have to change. If you like girls that's just a part of who you arr,, not your whole identity. For example some people like chocolate ice cream, some people like strawberry. And some people like both.
>Oh I can't eat ice cream. I'd get fat!
I'm sorry. I meant to say puppies and kitties
>But I can't choose between those!
Exactly.
>ohhhhh I seeeeeee. I can have a puppy AND a kitty
Yes. Though I think they'd prefer you have one at a time.
>Does this mean we're girlfriends now?
This exhausting conversation has convinced me to say no
Oh...
>But I guess we're friends
>DARIA
Neat, the drawings where pretty good.
Love the conversation, Brittany missing the point as usual but also unknowingly helping Daria on her old self reflection. Like the contact lenses episode.
>heard it all in their voices
i watched too much daria
but its cute
i wonder if daria will actually become a great writer
so cute
This feminist pseud c**t needed to be punched by a strong low inhibition alpha male.
>feminist
When did she ever say anything remotely feminist? If anything, she's an egalitarian.
🙂
i would fricking love to read realistic, in-character fanfiction of these two just kinda casually boning. in a comforting-each-other way. I mean their family just abandoned them, but they were happy to be abandoned because they hate their family.. and only love each other. and they're both pretty loose on the lifestyle stuff.
this is going to be the new """"barneygay"""" ruining all discussions in specific threads
daria is cute
I wish there was more porn of her that wasn't just 'hey what if daria was a bimbo'
I wish there was more fan art of her in general that didn't suck ass
that too.
oh anon. it was a good idea for a while there
that said it would be amusing for her to ask Brittany how to jerk off. it's tragically very common for girls to have no fricking idea how or even WHETHER their pleasure systems work. and if you think of a reason she couldn't go to Jane about it, probably worried about too much enthusiasm, it kind of does make sense she might eventually just ask someone so ditzy she probably won't blab, but also happy enough that she obviously has no issues there.
>that said it would be amusing for her to ask Brittany how to jerk off
>brittany decides to give a hands on lesson
well she's not much of a lecturer..
god remember when she kept on making motivational posters for "don't ___" and forgot to include anything indicating 'don't' so she just drew a big no-sign on it in lipstick
God I love that joke
It actually comes around in the episode. Tye school puts up Jane artwork against Jane and Daria request. So yhen end up vandalizing it the same way Brittany "no sign"
>yhen
?
Arts 'N Crass
Season 2 episode 1
Best episode of the series for me. Never compromise your vision.
That entire episode built up to one of the best Helen moments in the entire series.
yes. that fricking ruled
all those times she did the Angelica's Mom thing and spent all her time on the phone when her family needed her, it evidently goes both ways.. and AT work, she's happy to suddenly be an excellent mom and flex those lawyer muscles for good.
One thing I like about it is that I'm pretty sure the conversation would have went pretty much the exact same way if Daria hadn't even been involved and Helen had just found out what Li had done to Jane.
aw yeah, i loved the episode where the Lanes briefly live with the Morgendorffers and Helen and Jake both get super protective. Like they took in two hungry stray cats who are used to being indepedent.
if they'd been a little more lenient on Trent wanting to sleep at sensible hours instead of work hours, given that he doesn't have a job to get to, something really could have happened there.
I like how neither Jane nor Trent are at that big Lane family dinner at the end of the episode. Jane presumably because she had all her stuff at Daria's and Trent because he was grounded.
I actually paraphrase Helen's bit there quite a lot. I'm physically disabled and when things aren't up to ADA standards somewhere, I ask the person in charge of there familiar with blah blah blah part of the Americans with Disabilities Act and if not, how about the phrase "big fat lawsuit?" I throw in Jane's but from the running episode about calling the the local stations and telling them each the other two are running the story of the X who discriminates against the disabled.
I usually get my way.
>of there
IF THEY'RE
Fricking autocorrect.
you should watch Pelswick
>brittany jills daria off to "teach" her
>slowly turns into full on sex, without even realizing it
>only when they are both in bed and in the afterglow does daria realize she just had her first time
I mean.. that doesn't count as sex just because certain people want it to
To be honest, I haven't seen much fan art.
Well, it is over 20 years now, and a lot of it must be lost media for good reasons
we need a slow burn comic of her slowly realizing she is finally ready to take the big step she wasnt able to with tom, and theres a lot of build up as she tries to pop the question to someone
she does it with brittany and only after spending several pages wrestling with the decision only for brittany to be more than happy to show a friend how its done
I remember reading a fan theory ages ago that Brittany is really nice to Daria because like Daria, Brittany is a "new kid" who only just recently moved to Lawndale. Note the whole issue with the housewarming party being that it's Brittany's "new house" (indicating that the place had just been built, meaning Brittany most likely had been living in a hotel with her dad and step mom after moving to the town and their new house was being built). Combined with the fact that Brittany is forever at the mercy of the other cheerleaders basically bossing her around and even expelling her from the team at one point and the fact that while Jane makes constant mention of growing up with Kevin, never says anything about Brittany being part of the group of kids she grew up with.
Interesting theory. Makes sense ehen you put it like that.
I always really liked brittany, I remember feeling bad for her because she was really dumb but seemed to be genuinely trying a lot of the time, and I always really respected that in a weird way, like watching a guy in a wheelchair who can hop it up steps
Next month will be the 22nd anniversary of the show's end.
This thread has made me hate men just as much as I hate women
That's the spirit anon. Everyone sucks, even you.
Brapper
i loved her in this outfit
Why didn't Daria wear the same dress as the other girls?
Never got that joke, I get it but I don't find it funny, maybe is just me but I never met a woman that didn't knew how to make a dress fit using pins.
She did, she just has poor bone structure or the family forgotten she even existed. The only person who fits in with the rest of the socialites was Quinn.
When I watched the episode. I got the impression that one of the brides maid dropped out (probably a fat b***h) and they gave Daria her dress. And by mistake they gave Quinn Daria original dress. (Keep in mind we don't know when the fitting was, so it's possible Daria was Quinn age during the fitting)
>I got the impression that one of the brides maid dropped out (probably a fat b***h)
I have not even thought of that, and Daria was just a stand in but they did not want to admit that.
>we don't know when the fitting was, so it's possible Daria was Quinn age during the fitting)
this scene was literally the fitting scene. The fitting was done at the time. The fittingperson insulted Daria's figure and did a pisspoor job fitting the dress, to the point that it looked like it didn't match.
Also this might be controversial
Tom a fricking Legend mate. Yes he made the show shit, but he dated both Jane and Daria. That kiss he gave to Daria was a shit move, but he did it.
I feel like he had sex with Jane, but Daria still strikes me as a virgin. Also I got the feeling he was still trying to smash and that's why he wanted to keep a long distance relationship. What a pieve of shit, I feel like he would pump and dump Daria.
Tom sucked because he was a Gary Stu "le perfect boyfriend" type dream character but at the same time all he did was cause trouble for Daria and Jane, every conflict "he caused" was actually the fault of Daria/Jane but at the same time the show tries to put all the blame on him despite him being a pretty basic character. Even in "is it college yet" Daria gets mad at Tom for not magically knowing she didn't get into Bromwell and offers to try and talk to the dean to see if they can get her in but she just blows him off instead of trying to figure out a solution
I also found the "le rich kid who doesn't get the proles" thing kind of absurd since the Morgendorfers are clearly a well off upper middle class family. Yeah sure they might not be as rich as the Sloanes but at the same time it's not like they're grungy downbeat, sweat-of-the-brow working class family trying to get by in the suburbs
I didn't like like Tom simply because he was a Gary Stu that got with both Jane and Daria. Tom was basically the liberal archetype, and not the average joe. What were his interests? What were his talents? How can any dude relate to Tom outside of being from a high middle class family who can say all the right things while also being learned?
yeah that's what I meant by "le perfect boyfriend", he was supposed to be a handsome rich kid who was "like, really deep man" and didn't care about fancy stuff or wanting to get easy snatch and actually just wanted to hang out and listen to his plain Jane lower class GF's problems, the problem being that that archetype of "le perfect boyfriend" is incredibly boring when you really think about it so in what world would either Jane or Daria want to go after him?
Jane I can understand as kind of a fling to adventure into the world of "upper crust society" for the fun of it yeah, which they do touch on, but after an entire season of hating him for stealing her BFF Daria just instantly falls in love with him for absolutely no reason except for he was kind to her once?
There's an episode in which the school gets sponsored by a soda. The sponsor starts off amall but snowballs and it's plastered all over the school.
Daria complains about it, but is actually called out for never doing anything to change the problem. That by not doing anything dhe just as bad as the problem. Daria then tries to fight the sponsor (I think it's ultimately the principle going sugar crazy destroying the machine that actually stops the sponsors.) Any the episode ends with a compromised the sponsor no longer plastered all over the school instead just one big add on the roof that really only plains would see. Daria realises that even though she technically won the big corporations are still winning.
Ultimately Tom is on the side of the rich even if he doesn't actually accept it 100% he still did accept the family influence getting him into a good school while Daria had to work hard for hers.
that one was great because it gave a big middle finger to everyone who's like OHH SUGAR AND CAFFEINE, GONNA MAKE YOUNG PEOPLE HYPERACTIVE, THEY NEED TO JUST SIT STILL BE QUIET and the principal ends up being the only one to go nuts. because older metabolisms can't handle that shit, young ones can.
>liberal archetype
What were his liberal politics?
The only thing keeping me alive is the chance I might finally get revenge on people who discuss Darias sexual development on the internet.
>but what if she did this thing that i swear im not touching myself to
Why does it bother you, anon? What about you is broken that you aren't with us? Did you take antidepressants?
huh? she is grown up. I'm talking about the blue haired one.
Dude she's not real bro
You're standing on my neck
Surprised that there's no video of comparing Daria to Rick Sanchez.
Daria has standards
Rick Sanchez is a cringe character that overstayed it's welcome after a single season.
What did they see?!
a car heading right for their bay window
upchuck in the bushes
Can someone explain to me why there is an episode where straight up magic?
a fever dream from anti-depressants?
i liked it. and it helped that the main characters seemed to be in denial that it was really happening, and that all the magic was realllly low-key.
I think the story there was that MTV kept pushing them to do special holiday episodes so instead of giving in and doing a standard Christmas episode that would just result in more demands for other holiday episodes, they did them all at once.
oh that's hilarious
I loved how that had Saint Patrick and Saint Valentine.
i'm surprised i've never heard a joke on a show be like "oh that guy's REAL religious" "howso?" "he always says 'SAINT valentine's day' never shortens it"
Several stories have floated around over the years: but the general accepted one is that outside forcing the writers to make a musical episode (and forcing them to rearrange the planned episode order to make it the season premiere), MTV was extremely hands off with the show and the episode with the Holidays was the writers seeing if MTV was really paying attention to them because they thought MTV would shoot down the episode.
Is there any way to watch this show with the original music?
>Why settle for vanity when you can have pure egotism?
remind me, the DVD cut doesn't just change songs but actually cuts out scenes, right? I would think the restoration project would make sure to put those back in, even at low quality.
The core series (IE all 65 episodes) are intact on DVD in so far as they don't cut scenes but all of the pop music except for one or two songs are gone and replaced with generic filler music.
The real butchery is in the form of the two TV movies, most notably Is It College Yet is missing a bunch of scenes.
MTV did multiple edits of both films; one that was uncut and only aired once (when the film debuted on the channel) with pop music soundtrack, a version with scenes cut for the purpose of adding more commercial breaks to it that has the pop music (this is the version that MTV ran in reruns and is the go-to version if they ever rerun the movie since they had the foresight to secure the rights to the music for the movies in perpetuity), the Noggin edit for Is It Fall Yet (which is cut even more than the regular rerun cut in that it completely excises the lesbian subplot from IIFY), and the initial DVD release from the 00s, which is the rerun cut minus the pop music.
When they were putting out the show on DVD, Shout Factory had to rescore the entire core series and were going to rescore the two movies from scratch too, but for some strange reason MTV misplaced the uncut master tapes for the two movies needed to rescore then so they used the rerun cuts of IIFY and IICY from the initial DVD release instead. Which is missing scenes but in the case of IIFY, does have the lesbian subplot intact.
Hope to update the folders before it gets taken down in the near future.
>daria thread
>no mentions of picrel
all anons should check out Downtown, the Daria followup
it's all on youtube for free:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjLt9Ko9Xnsicvt79T6plaoDguyPpzbuM&si=MUnYBx7rrJLF96uo
main guy sucked and the only thing this has going for it is the goth girl
It wasn't a follow up and I bought the DVD directly from Chris Pryavdbdiagsvrbxnajrvsvabnoski directly way back in the day
it's a fun show, but only has a single season
Daria had 5 and to movies specials
All the characters in this show are buttholes
well they are urban city teens
>urban
anon
shit. why does this happen so weirdly often. are any of those missing scenes any good? why hasn't the restoration project added them from the debut, did nobody tape it? I'd believe that.
Do you not know what the term urban means? The title of the show is literally DOWNTOWN, I wasn't talking about Lawndale High teens.
sorry I didn't realize we'd changed the subject to Downtown. I didn't even see that
had linked to a previous post at all. my bad.
The Jane lesbian subplot is unironically ahead of it's time and would drive people fricking insane today.
right? That shit is EXTREMELY accurate.
but that scene isn't missing from the DVD cut right, that's the Noggin cut
We live in an era where if the gay couple doesn't happen it's an attack on the LGBT community I cannot fricking IMAGINE how that'd go down.
>teens
Alex, Goat, Jen and most of the other characters or early 20s. Only Chaka, her friend and Fruity are teens.
Daria and Downtown have nothing to do with each other.
Downtown has more in coming with MegazXLR than any other shows on MTV
>more in coming
common*
RIP
He was referenced in a few other shows beyond those two as well.
I'm sure he was, but not in Daria. Daria belongs in the Judgeverse
Imagine an old Daria going to Old Beavis and Butthead apartment.
>Sigh, I thought I told you guys to keep this place clean when I found you the apartment.
Cheack it out Beavis, it's that girl we use to go to school with and she has boobs now!
>Sigh, I always had them but I just wore a jack- you know what never mind. Yes, I have boobs now.
Daria then proceeds to clean the apartment.
Butthead "uh hu uh, Daria our maid now."
Beavis "Yeah! She should wear those slitty maid outfits!"
>Maybe if you're luckt next time.
Daria finishes cleaning. Butthead is passes out with an empty six pack next to him. Daria then takes Beavis by the hand to the bedroom
>C'mon I cleaned your place now it's time for my reward.
Booooiiiing oing on oing
>Sigh, your lucky I had a really stressful week at work.
Daria ended up sad and alone, leaving Quinn with the duty of procreating alone.
If Beavis wasn't Butthead's careworker I'd see Daria doing it.
Actually, as MTV shows, there is some writer overlap.
God this looks like trash. Indie hipster scott pilgrim homosexualry.
Imagine the sex
It'd be like a bunny fricking a tiger.
I really liked the art style of Daria, there's just something about the character designs that's really great
It has a retro (Hanna-Barbera) vibe.
As this thread comes to a close I just wanted to say it's been a pleasure. Hope more anons get a chance to watch the show if they want to discuss it in the future. Maybe even encourage fanart.
right?
i wish people commissioned me to draw Daria stuff more. but it would probably all be super out of character and i'd feel bad.
>probably all be super out of character
That's part of the fun. But I mean at least try and write the way the characters would talk.
Again that's something I really appreciate that everyone has different mannerisms. Even the fashion club.
exactly.
vast shots like this are so weird because like, when would this ever, ever happen in the actual show.. like never. also Jane doesn't usually wear that jacket or shirt.
Having Andrea instead of Quinn or even Sandi was also an odd choice.
yeahh it's weird...
it's like when they do those fancier-shaded screencaps to promote simpsons episodes.
No it isn't. Quinn EtAl are a year or two under Daria EtAl. Andrea is in Daria's graduating class along with everyone else in that pic (except Kevin). It isn't hard to imagine them getting together for such a photo under these circumstances. I know I've got pics with people I barely knew from senior year
producers being hands off seems like bullshit
andrea and jane would had come off as to much of the same character is probably what they thought
I wish Daria didn't wear socks as part of her jimjams
Is Andrea Asian? Cuz in my head, she's Ms Li's kid.
she's definitely asian, despite her israeli last name. presumably both she and her dad have asian moms.
I don't think she's related to ms. li, but lawndale is not exactly a gigantic place so it's not out of the question for the few asians to be related.
>she's definitely asian, despite her israeli last name.
I don't even know her last name.
Not saying all Asians look alike since she definitely doesn't look like Tiffany, but she greatly resemble Angela Li.
yeah I think it's more "this is how that artist draws asians" than any intended resemblance
yeah her last name is blum-deckler. which actually suggests both her parents are, or at least that someone along her paternal line had two israeli/german parents, who perhaps kept the hyphenated name for the rest of their family (do people do that?)
>blum-deckler
No, that's Tiffany, not Andrea. Andrea is the Goth chick
....
(No I don't think Andrea is Asian. Maybe a little. She only resembles Ms. Li because they're both fat)
daria's soft pubes
Ah alas the closing thought to a Daria thread. I had fun. Honestly I like the idea of ooc Daria in porn ideas. Daria as a show is a really great binge. It's funny how Upchuck, was portrayed as a loser but as far as incel losers is concerned Upchuck was a decent character. O remember a couple of episodes where Daria and Jane use Upchick for a drive home. Quinn is a weird character she has a shit load of boyfriends but isn't a bawd using dates to drive her boyfriend cars or go to their vacation house.
Upchuck is fine for WHAT he does, he's just bad at it. And being clueless like that is kind of unnerving.
and yeah it's weird how Quinn doesn't DO anything with the guys.. and they still like... hang around her. like they were in 6th grade or something.
I always kind of just assumed she was constantly playing a game of insinuating sex would happen but not ever doing it, so she's basically chastity pavlov-ing them. It's pretty brutal what you can program people to do when you look past socialization and start looking at neurochemistry.
true, just look at how they get terrorists to blow themselves up
still though, she feels.. I dunno, somehow too naive to be talking about sex at all, even as manipulation. she'd just be like EEEWW
>I always kind of just assumed she was constantly playing a game of insinuating sex
She did, and that was her game. That is why she isn't a really nice person. She likes the portrayal of being popular without doing anything in return. It's not like the boys she attracts are bright to begin with. They are all shallow horny teens who care about appearance and social circles.
she just seems to like the attention, since they give her free stuff, carry her things, and so on
she also likes them fighting each other, the only time she gets interested is when they physically attack each other
she is surprisingly quite conservative, though this is rarely explored
she doesnt want to slow dance until the 8th date and hates holding hands
Quinn must have to had been very pretty to keep 3 boys to beta orbit her for the entire run of the show. Makes upchuck the chad at the end of it all for getting with a future super model.
LOL
>Quinn doesn't DO anything with the guys
Movie, Burger, backseat. Movie, burger, backseat. But there are other guys with better backseats waiting to take her someplace nice.
there's a lot you can do and not do in a backseat
That phrasing is so english.
being marginalized is the price you pay for being right.
Upchuck isn't an incel because he doesn't hate women, he is just a creep.
Cursed and Blessed.

that's actually a good poem
You should look up Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of Greenbridge, Essex, England.
The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool.
They lay. They rotted. They turned
Around occasionally.
Bits of flesh dropped off them from
Time to time.
And sank into the pool's mire.
They also smelt a great deal.

Was she based or cringe?
yes
As a kid I thought she was based, as an adult I think she was cringe.
That's the best part. Luckily as an adult, your opinions no longer matters! You're not marketable! You're set in your ways, and only pay heed to what already strokes your ego. Adult never want to be introspective on things that are wrong with themselves and is vindicated by the size of their bank accounts.
Human values has a monetary system. Which on it's own is cringe.
No idea what you mean I just think Daria is either naive (which she is not) or stubborn for forcing her way on a system that won't change just because she doesn't dance by its tune, she is only marginalizing herself because she doesn't want to compromise no matter what but she gains nothing more that stroking her own ego because for her being the outsider elevates her over the people she thinks are bellow her.
It's always better to have principles than to fit in like an """"npc"""" and allowing the system to frick you in the ass. Even better, take advantage of a system that comprises your principles.
yeah man yeah
>take advantage of
i mean no. well, only when it's offered.
part of being a good person is taking all the government money you qualify for, and voting to reduce that money.
>and voting to reduce that money.
No, voting to increase the tax rates for the rich, higher pay for less hours, and bringing production jobs back. Always take advantage of the system that already treats you like disposable material. People are not disposable. but the human piggy banks are.
see this is the bait that gets me banned when I tears it to shreds
not happening today. good try, Ivan.
>Jane: Aww, the wittle man had his principles challenged by someone on the internet.
>Daria: I guess one can't overlook the fragility of the privileged and fragile.
mr demartino is my favorite character
>huhuhuh
>she needs to "get off"
>heheh heheh
>uhhhuhuhuhuh

Quantum dividing an intellect makes me the brilliant one and the lab coat monkey the tard. You can say no but it means Yes.
I never said they weren't. I'm saying that it's ridiculously entitled to treat "The two fictional characters I want to be gay don't frick, this is assault." as a serious academic critique, let alone how the day to day shippers have taken it.
>taking that post seriously enough to reply to it
come on man how new are you
im sorry i skipped lunch. 🙁
It's easier to feign well thought out arguments as a gag. It's how undesirables get away with spreading hate online with dog whistles.
