    >Completely average coming of age movie
    >All critics go apeshit and declare the director a genius

I didn't hate it or anything, but it's just completely average and unremarkable.

Only thing I know about this movie is one of my exes loved it and would genuinely have a breakdown if she ever remembered it and I have no idea why. I offered to watch it with her once since she claims it's one of her favorites and all she said was "it's incredibly personal" and I wouldn't get it before crying and driving home at like 11pm when we planned on spending the night together. Ever since then I associate this movie with autism.

i just rewatched it and thought it even better the second time. didn't find it mundane like you said or anything. do you just have trouble relating to the main character?

i expected this reaction. not everyone is austistic and can't decipher the point of a movie

its a movie about and catered to the daughter/mom relationship. I don't think its that far fetched to say the average poster here isn't going to get it. I saw it in a theater with just me and 5 or 6 older single women scattered around and they all started crying simultaneously at a couple points and I found that added a lot to what would otherwise be a pretty average viewing.
Also I barked out a laugh in the otherwise dead quiet when saoirse tries to make a joke toward chalamet about killing his whole family

kek i remember that part. doesn't he say something like "why would you say that? my family is nice" or something?

    Eh. It's a "Men wouldn't get it" Mom/Daughter film.
Every girl (Sister, mom, gfs, nieces, cousins) that I know has seen it, including when I saw it with my sister and niece has cried through a chunk of it.

maybe i'm just a big gay then but i definitely related to her as i wanted to get out of my small town and do bigger things while not realizing how good i had it. the dad character was pretty based but obviously it's mostly about learning that your home isn't as bad and that her mom was really trying her best

It was clearly feminist tumblr oscar bait, ended up ruining Saoirse for me.

I assumed it would be feminist slop because of the types of people that like it but it's genuinely a Christian film. It's just female oriented.

I liked it because I went to Catholic school and it was very true to the experience.
