This is the same guy who hated Lilo & Stitch for being too quirky and kicked the creator off of his own passion project giving us the half assed watered down soulless Bolt instead.
I mean Gravity Falls aside from the character art was quite good. I wouldn't describe it as a souless CN/Nick reject. Phineas and Ferb has its fans, but I am indifferent to it. I've never seen anyone have anything to say positively or negatively about Amphibia amd The Owl House outside of this board. I swear Cinemaphile Fujoshis and homosexuals make up 95% of the audience for those poor mans Mahou Shoujos.
I do not have positive things to say about most of the modern Disney shows in discussion here, but mostly stay silent since it is ultimately meaningless to me.
Cars is Pixar's Despicable Me/Minions. >first film is fine >merch wise it sells like firecrackers due to a simple but kid friendly design >everything else after is trash >but keeps getting shoved down throats because the merch keeps selling
DC became a thing because of Nickelodeon, before that their animated catalogue were Saturday morning cartoons.
You could say ABC was responsible for giving Disney those live action sitcoms.
I'm not gonna say my opinion on DTVA(It's complicated) so I'll say this instead: anybody who unironically thinks that Lasseter's departure was the cause for Pixar's decline is fricking idiot.
Not only did he direct 2 of the worst films in the studio's career, but he also happily green lit both Lightyear and Toy Story 4 despite No one wanting them. Pixar would still be shit even if Lasseter was there. In fact it might even be worse.
Yeah, Pixar was already going downhill with their mediocre sequels. I wasn't really asking for Finding Dory or Monsters U. And Incredibles 2 was incredibly disappointing. On top of that you also had films like Brave and The Good Dinosaur, so the original ideas were also struggling. Up was probably what I could say was the last golden age Pixar film. Maybe after Elemental bombing, Pixar will find its footing again.
Assuming this is true, this just lends more credence to the theory that his ouster was a coup spearheaded by disgruntled young animators, rather than any real harassment, no?
That's different. Disney told Pixar that the show was happening with or without their involvement, so Lasseter was salty Pixar basically got bullied into working on it (at an extremely limited capacity).
Does it? I don't see how those shows in particular go against what Disney is about?
Ironically Disney Channel is the only network left out of the big three that still actually produces new cartoons, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network either doubled down on established IPs or are straight up dead.

Doesn't matter they are not only objective shit but low-level garbage
Idk how he could have thought this when he was behind all the mater shorts, not that they were bad, but Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls are objectively better than they are. I'm saying that as a huge Cars fan
I love Gravity Falls, but I have to admit that the show isn't merchandisable. Sym-Bionic Titan and the Thundercats reboot were cancelled for the same reason.
>four shows that are better than any slop Nick or CN has churned out in years are bad and Nick/CN tier because… BECAUSE THEY JUST ARE OK?!?!?
So what cartoons did he think were “what Disney is about”?
nah, frick off. Compared to its competition, it had good writing, a solid myth arc, was genuinely funny most of the time and ended on a high note. Mabel was a bit of a c**t but at least she was a consistent c**t throughout the series.
Personally, I think Lasseter is referring to what Walt Disney thought about TV animation in his day. Walt actively wanted NOTHING to do with TV animation because he was worried that due the inability of TV animation being nearly as good as Disney's Animation at the time, it would ruined the companies reputation. He also has some harsh things to say about Hanna Barbera as well.
It was only during the 80s when DTVA became a thing because by that point, they actually could make TV animation that somewhat on the level of Disney, thanks to outsourcing (Thanks Australia)
I think thats why Lasseter hates DTVA, he views it as sacrilege. Something that completely goes against what Walt wanted for the company, not realizing that Disney was very different at that point.
This post is sadly ignored, and you're right. It's not so much the quality of writing(which is what I suspect most anons are defending), it's the presentation.
As much as I love these shows, it's true. Disney has always been the pinnacle of family entertainment and focuses on family values and making media everyone to consume. These shows go against all that which explains why they didn't get pushed as much as their in house productions
And what, pray tell, is "Disney about"? Didn't DTVA fricking save the entire animated division by keeping it afloat during the 80s and the 00s when they were in a massive slump?
Phineas and Ferb looks like a Bible cartoon
It's so inoffensive it's disturbing, even the bully character immediately becomes part of the group instead of being an antagonist

-moron. Dude doesn’t seem above churning out bastardized Disney knockoffs over at Skydance.
FPBP.
Seriously, which of these shows provided profitable merch for Disney?
>a show's merit is defined by it's profitability
Nice going, glowie.
what MERCH?!
they didnt fricking make any!
>think about the profits of the world's richest company!!!
>which of these shows provided profitable merch for Disney?
They NEVER do merch for DTVA shows
This. Phineas and Ferb was always shit.

What is Disney about? Milking dry the existing IPs?
Fippy bippy
What exactly IS Disney about, at least according to Lasseter?
you know he's right
This is the same guy who hated Lilo & Stitch for being too quirky and kicked the creator off of his own passion project giving us the half assed watered down soulless Bolt instead.

he is not wrong
I have a hard time respecting someone who greenlit the Cars franchise.
>responsible for pixar's most kino franchise
Why do we hate this guy again?
The Hugging.
Why is Cars bad?
naked commercialism that put most dreamworks and illumination movies to shame?
Cars is Pixar's Despicable Me/Minions.
>first film is fine
>merch wise it sells like firecrackers due to a simple but kid friendly design

DC became a thing because of Nickelodeon, before that their animated catalogue were Saturday morning cartoons.
You could say ABC was responsible for giving Disney those live action sitcoms.
>Was the reason why Disney kept on milking out that “twist villain” gimmick for so long that people would rather have villains again.
Yeah no
Pixar and Disney havent had any good villains since Syndrome

>Pixar will find its footing again.
They're coming out with a D+ series soon in a 3D "calarts" style as a cost-cutting measure. It's gonna get worse.
Wasn’t that one cancelled and being reworked into a movie?
Yea. Dunno how that'll fair better.
afaik the show is still happening, what got cancelled was an unannounced but related project
>Yeah, Pixar was already going downhill with their mediocre sequels
Sequels that Disney likely forced them to do
>Toy Story 4
IMO TS4 was better than 3 when it came to Woody's arc, but also no better than 3 when it came to Buzz's characterization

Certainly makes his hate-boner for Star Command a no brainer.
That's different. Disney told Pixar that the show was happening with or without their involvement, so Lasseter was salty Pixar basically got bullied into working on it (at an extremely limited capacity).
Are those four examples supposed to be an epic own against Lasseter's statement? It only proves his point.
Does it? I don't see how those shows in particular go against what Disney is about?

How are any of those shows objective garbage? Setting something to your subjective and probably insane standards doesn't make it objectively bad.
Phineas and Ferb is the only good cartoon shown here and even then it's just decent at best.
I like every show in that tweet except the owl house, but he's still got a point.
I like gravity falls.
Idk how he could have thought this when he was behind all the mater shorts, not that they were bad, but Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls are objectively better than they are. I'm saying that as a huge Cars fan

>not merchandisable
that mystery book didn't sell ?
You see any other Gravity Falls merchandize other than Journal No. 3?
Graphic Novel and a choose your own adventure book.
Gravity Falls has a poor 2nd half with a few good episodes. Phineas and Ferb did caramelldansen.
>four shows that are better than any slop Nick or CN has churned out in years are bad and Nick/CN tier because… BECAUSE THEY JUST ARE OK?!?!?
So what cartoons did he think were “what Disney is about”?
Modern Disney is allergic to success? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?
>CN and Nick rejects
>TTG and SpongeBob the channels
They should do better.
We got to have a real conversation about Gravity Falls. it is not even a top 20 cartoon and people act like it's top 5.
"It was good, but it wasn't THAT great" continues to be in the top 5 dullest "real conversations".
no, I think it's appropriate to put shows in proper context rather than endlessly gushing about it.
That's just your autism. People can enjoy and talk about things without adding every caveat to satisfy everyone's tism.
nah, frick off. Compared to its competition, it had good writing, a solid myth arc, was genuinely funny most of the time and ended on a high note. Mabel was a bit of a c**t but at least she was a consistent c**t throughout the series.
>its competition
such as what? Adventure Time, Regular Show and Gumball? it's not better than those shows tbh.
>Adventure Time
>better than anything
Maybe the first season, but AT was shit for more seasons than it was good
>no actual source
>when asked for source the Op literally just goes "just trust me bro"

More like Fatasseter.

Gravity Falls is OK
Phineas and Ferb is based
Everything else can go
And what, pray tell, is "Disney about"? Didn't DTVA fricking save the entire animated division by keeping it afloat during the 80s and the 00s when they were in a massive slump?
The only thing worth a damn here is PnF
Bro is salty that pixar kicked his ass out and ruined his IPs
I bet Lasseter seethed with anger everytime Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse won an Annie Award
Based department, you're gonna wanna sit down for this one.
why pick those four as it representation?half of it only have low numbers of episodes.
replace one or two of them with Star VS or Ducktales.
>replace one or two of them with Star VS or Ducktales.
John Lasseter directed Cars. He has no right to talk.
I mean I agree with him, all of those shows suck.
hes right about most of those but what the frick is wrong with him to say that about PnF
CN during AT era was way better than Disney channel
Frick this fat moron!
Pretty sure Crimson Mayhem isn't fat
Yeah, when did he say that?
Because three of the four cartoons poster are fairly new
Phineas and Ferb looks like a Bible cartoon
It's so inoffensive it's disturbing, even the bully character immediately becomes part of the group instead of being an antagonist
