        was it rape?

Its just an inferior version of Rashomon where the woman's version is accepted as an universal truth, because in the current year and after #metoo you can't suspect the validity of rape accusations even in fiction anymore

Literally no reason for her to lie though.

Obviously not, because that's how the script was written which is the problem

Why would she risked getting burned alive for a lie?

Whether she gets burned or not is beside the point (the burning is sentence is pronounced after her confession anyway), the dumbed down thematic lesson of The Last Duel is that a woman will be honest regarding their potential adulterous relations, even at the cost of her life, whereas the more authentic one of Rashomon is that one can never know.

She has the most to lose with the rape accusations though. If she really liked it or even instigated it then why not just keep quiet? She was living great life already.

The probability of a fake rape accusation in mediaeval France is astronomically low. You can question the motives of an amerimutt brought up on tiktok all you want though

The fa/tv/irgins insist it's #metoo schlock because they have their identities wrapped up in pop politics and are blinded by it.

It’s Rashomon except in the MeToo era ambiguity about rape is wrong so they literally billboard the woman’s perspective as The Truth, thus negating the whole point of the conceit.
Why the frick did we just watch two perspectives of people who were On The Wrong Side Of History (tm) then? Thanks for wasting my time dickweed.

The production elements, like costuming, music, performances, photography are good and enjoyable
The writing is a fricking atrocity; hamfisted propaganda overtly intended to denigrate men and male sexuality
Inb4 the disingenuous couple of trannies in this thread try to suggest that this is in any way a defense or justification of rape or Le Gris' actions in the film, which it is not
I'm just tired of having to explain this shit over and over again to manifestly dishonest morons

The funny thing is that when you attempt to explain why the underlying messages in movies like this are fundamentally leftist propaganda, their defenders cling on to plot details, unable to grasp that the plot is just window dressing for the themes and written to suit them with varying decrees of success.
Whether the plot makes sense or not is inconsequential regarding criticisms targeted at the film's thematic content.

For some this movie is about honor, temptations and loyalty. For some it's "leftist propaganda". Maybe leave internet for a while and you are not so obsessed about things that aren't there.

I'm not going to pretend its not leftist propaganda, but it has other themes, intentionally or not.

I avoided watching it at cinema because Cinemaphile & the rightwing grifters on youtube kept calling it woke.

eventually watched it at home & shouldn't have listened.
