I'm using kurobaex and I had the filename 0x0.jpg and last time I had a filename like that someone made fun of me and called me a redditor and I accidentally resized it by 52% so I had to do the image again and I guess I changed the checksum again
I've been using Cinemaphile since 2007 and I still don't fricking know how to use this fricking site man
>reverse shill campaign
nah that's fallout and sydney sweeney and deadpool threads. also whatever threads about shows and movies you like? those are all by the juice, for the juice. shill-o-rama
I think it was an 8/10 popcorn horror flick as is, overall great effort, great charismatic performance by its lead, several strong performances by supporting cast, no immersion breaking intersectional feminist preaching of any kind
why did they give away the plot twist before the actual movie even started? As soon as they mentioned Dastmalchian was part of a secret society and his wife died even a five year old could figure out that he sold his wife's soul to the devil for fame
you are definitely someone with no media literacy that feels smug because they think they have BETTER literacy instead of NONE (because of your crippling autism)
Arrested? He'd be getting a fricking award ceremony as a hero who put down a literal demon on TV which horribly killed several people already. That is, if he were sane enough to walk away from it all intact.
That's what his wife's life was bargained for. Not the TV fame/success before the infamous event, but her spirit to guide him to putting down the demon on TV which "shocked the nation " and would eclipse all his prior fame.
And the devil was happy to make the bargain, which would result in a presumptuous demon below him getting knocked down a peg.
For all we know the demon could have already left her body by the time he stabs her in the stomach. we have no idea what's actually happening during his deathbed conversation with the wife.
The girl he stabbed may not have been the demon at that final moment, but it's not like you're going to get a council from the vatican to come and analyze the footage. As far as anyone watching saw, a demon girl up and murdered three people, and Jack stabs her putting a stop to the horror.
At best you're looking at charges of having a fixed blade in New York state.
yea i fail to see how he gets arrested when there are dozens of people and tape that shows a literal child getting her head split open and snapping necks. its silly that people think henis going to jail.
saw it yesterday, it never tries to be realistic or pretends to be real found footage, so I don't get the complaints, fun flick. The guy was clearly doing Conan, even the show felt based on his show instead of something era-appropriate
> never tries to be realistic
yeah that’s what made it good. it was giving you constant jarring reminders that you’re never supposed to take it seriously. it wasn’t a “self aware” parody like movies such as Cabin in the Woods, but rather a parody of a parody. a self-referential comedy of a horror film (itself)
quite postmodern, I dare say
How could you include playback speed in the webm?

Is that girl really 13?

I mean at the end, not the seance.

If Jack killed the people in the studio, how did he burn Carmudgeon Haig?
>spoiler
he didn’t, what was shown to happen really did happen, and he’ll now spend the rest of his life in the cuckoo’s nest… but at least he’ll be famous
Bro, I streamed it last night. My gf read me the Vulture critique and I found it very agreeable. For me, the movie lost its teeth when Lilly became Abraxas. The demon himself was good, but everything became campy after that
I mean at the end, not the seance.
the climax of the film wasn't plot related at all, it was when he begged you to turn off your TV and you didn't turn it off. you can't stop watching
If Jack killed the people in the studio, how did he burn Carmudgeon Haig?
Bro, I streamed it last night. My gf read me the Vulture critique and I found it very agreeable. For me, the movie lost its teeth when Lilly became Abraxas. The demon himself was good, but everything became campy after that
The CGI effects, especially in the finale, were totally unnecessary and undercut the climax. It made it stupidly funny which was a tonal whiplash from what they had established. I liked it overall because the setup is so effective, but all the horror they were going for could've easily been achieved practically.
The image was to clean. Looked like they just put a free pluging filter over it and called it a day. Also why the frick did they use AI for the title cards?
>why the frick did they use AI for the title cards?
it creates an unsettling effect where something is off but you can't quite put your finger on it (until some autist freeze frames it with a magnifying glass)
It was ok
The way people were praising it I thought it would be some genre breaking masterpiece
The psychic bit was good
The hypnosis and the playback was cleverly done
The demon was suitably menacing
But it felt more like a monkey paw wish than a deal with the devil because when you sell your soul you’re not supposed to get tricked like that into murdering everyone for ratings after which you go to jail, get executed, and end up in hell. that’s monkey paw shit
He didn't kill everyone. Just the girl. Also, the movie wasn't about him being tricked into killing. It was about him being tricked into doing the ultimate demon summoning. They say in the movie that simply watching a 13 year old being ritualistically murdered is enough to make anyone possesed. That's what happens at the end. He kills the girl with the ritual knife, making anyone who didn't turn off the TV when said to possesed
Good horror movie. Could have been a KINO found footage though if some of the ending/SFX were removed and black and white scenes replaced with commercials. The 4th wall stuff isn't scary when the other black and white scenes break immersion.
There are lots of them. The demon was not the one killing everyone. The ghost of the dead wife was on the set getting revenge on the host for sacrificing her.
possibly. the lady said that she never saw her have a face transformation or levitate before the show. the dead wifes ghost is also shown through the entire movie. and seeing as how the movie is not exactly subtle, it makes sense that its the angry wife doing the killing. remember they said that ghosts have a stronger connection to the real world on halloween. im convinced its the wife.
There's this moment during the possession segment where she freaks out and her face turns into this gnashing distorted creature for a few frames. It's easy to miss but it's there.
Yeah, I saw the distorted face and was surprised by the slowmo reveal of his wife in the background. I went back to see if I'd initially seen what I'd seen...the movie should have played with that aspect more instead of spelling it out with the over the top hypnotism scene.
Definitely could have worked in way more "subliminal" (I know it's not the accurate word) secrets into the film. Could easily been a great gimmick for repeat viewings.
>I know it's not the accurate word
It's accurate but "secrets" wasn't. Should be "gimmicks."
But yeah, the movie doesnt live up to it's concept as well as it could have. It's going to be a flash in the pan success instead of being remembered down the road.
That could've been done through the debunker guy, he actually sounded like he was interested in joining the Bohemian Grove thing. But they wanted to keep the late night tv show format, so you can't really do 5 minutes of exposition during a 2 minutes commercial break
Nah, the deal Jack made (without him even knowing he was making a deal, he just thought he was tripping) was for him to become famous at the cost of his wife's life and for the demon to own his soul
His wife's spirit was there though and she made Jack hallucinate, to use the dagger and kill the demon, thus severing the deal and now Jack gets to keep his soul
But that's wrong you moron. >Gus was the Devil all along >June is deluded by her beliefs in the paranormal >Lily is just an abused autistic girl >Jack is just trying to get ratings
The whole thing is an allegory where the troony agenda perpetrated on kids by stupid women like June who think they are helping kids and 'doing science' are actually causing kids harm by subjecting them to exploitation by israelites and leading them down a Satanic path to real Hell. >Haig represents real science and academia selling it's soul to the rainbow agenda and being literally destroyed by it, being burned by the troony monsters they arrogantly failed to stop, (notice he's constantly being cut off and silenced by Jack).
At the end we see "Jack" was the one truly responsible for everything.
My question is, who was the literal devil in the movie? Not Abraxas but Satan himself. Both the director and Dastmalchian said that the devil is a visible character somewhere in the movie, I assumed someone tucked away in the audience for a scene if you look.
I big lmao'd when the debunker guy not only instantly accepted the demon as real when shit went down, but more than that was immediately pledging his life to evil and demonic bidding for it
If you were familiar with magician turned professional skeptic James Randi, the IRL guy he's more than based on, you'd laugh even harder:
?t=995
On the one hand, he had a disdain for fakes/con artists, so spent his life debunking/duplicating their tricks that actually were very real to a lot of the people they fooled, (along with the fact he was a literal closet homosexual so was anti-religious).
But on the other hand, if you COULD prove you had real paranormal powers he would legit give you a cheque for $10,000, (upped later to multiples of $10,000, then finally $1,000,000 as he got more backing from likeminded patrons).
The charlatans he'd expose would invariably claim he was working for Satan and using his powers to thwart their (godly) powers, or just him being a 'disbeliever' and his skepticism/negativity was somehow interfering with them demonstrating their powers.
So him being proven wrong to the point of him falling to his knees, admitting he was wrong, and offering the cheque is many a paranormalgay's fantasy. But so would him becoming a believer and praying to a deity. So him desperately trying to align himself with the Devil is a nice touch.
>still changing the image hash to evade filters
this is the weirdest reverse shill campaign

Great film that stands out among the capeslop culture of modern films.

why did they give away the plot twist before the actual movie even started? As soon as they mentioned Dastmalchian was part of a secret society and his wife died even a five year old could figure out that he sold his wife's soul to the devil for fame
People like to think they "cracked the code" even if they didn't.
you are definitely someone with no media literacy that feels smug because they think they have BETTER literacy instead of NONE (because of your crippling autism)
The movie didn't hinge on that plot point being a twist
the climax of the film wasn't plot related at all, it was when he begged you to turn off your TV and you didn't turn it off. you can't stop watching
thank god it didn't end too soon then, because it ended up being a 9/10
That's a theramin surrounded by a sticks so wild animals won't get it
The opening narration is useless too, because it contains stuff that we learn through the movie regardless. That narration was pure padding.
So does Jack get arrested or what?
Arrested? He'd be getting a fricking award ceremony as a hero who put down a literal demon on TV which horribly killed several people already. That is, if he were sane enough to walk away from it all intact.

>He'd be getting a fricking award ceremony as a hero who put down a literal demon on TV
Best case, life in prison.
For what crime. Killing a demon?
For all we know the demon could have already left her body by the time he stabs her in the stomach. we have no idea what's actually happening during his deathbed conversation with the wife.

Wait my friend: why would he spend his life in the cuckoo's nest if all was caught on camera? Also, he did stab Lilly.
How could you include playback speed in the webm?
Is that girl really 13?
I mean at the end, not the seance.
If Jack killed the people in the studio, how did he burn Carmudgeon Haig?
She's 18
She could definitely do an Audrey Rose.
There were like 7 studios involved in the making of this movie, what was up with that
They each paid about five bucks
I like how you can tell when the AIslop comes onto screen even when it's played this fast.
Bro, I streamed it last night. My gf read me the Vulture critique and I found it very agreeable. For me, the movie lost its teeth when Lilly became Abraxas. The demon himself was good, but everything became campy after that
It was spooky
Is this any good or is it homosexual shit Luke meghan?
Answer my question you fricks
i didnt watch Megan because one single glance at it told me it was ‘homosexual shit’, as you say
this movie is not that
It reminded me of those Adult Swim shorts made by the Wham City guys, it's like if you turned a post-modern sketch into a 90-minute movie.
Surprising quality content from shudder, considering how they botched the v/h/s series.
this movie felt like a somewhat graceful apology for how the past couple of VHS movies have been
It was one of the movies where Shudder just bought the distribution rights, not directly funded like a lot of their preachy shit
so..did he get hypnotized into killing all the guests himself? that's what I took away from it but consensus seems to be only the girl
How can he have spun a guys head around and melted another? It was obviously the demon.
Only the girl. If it was the wife intervention or the result of the demon deception is up to debate
>hypnotized
But Atheists told me that hypnosis is not real.
Doesnt explain the footage that shows demon stuff
Her voice was sexy and when she kept looking at the camera.
The CGI effects, especially in the finale, were totally unnecessary and undercut the climax. It made it stupidly funny which was a tonal whiplash from what they had established. I'm not buying that. Maybe they wanted to save some cash.
To save money
It was ok

Wait, that was in the description, but I don't remember it happening in the movie. The bit about everyone watching being possessed
Monkey paw shit is how deals with the devil are depicted though.
why didn't the devil take the $500,000 check
it was a good deal
He (rightfully) took the dinner with Jay-Z, which is a much better deal
Good horror movie. Could have been a KINO found footage though if some of the ending/SFX were removed and black and white scenes replaced with commercials. The 4th wall stuff isn't scary when the other black and white scenes break immersion.
If we're supposed to be watching archived footage how did we see those behind the scenes ad break parts and the devil mindfrick bit at the end?
the hypnosis scene was the best part
Lilly was 10/10
Abigal mogs her.
When was she born?
what was the point of inserting a frame of his dead wife here?
There are lots of them. The demon was not the one killing everyone. The ghost of the dead wife was on the set getting revenge on the host for sacrificing her.
So the demon did nothing wrong?
He held up his part of the deal
At most you could reprehend him for using strong language on national television
possibly. the lady said that she never saw her have a face transformation or levitate before the show. the dead wifes ghost is also shown through the entire movie. and seeing as how the movie is not exactly subtle, it makes sense that its the angry wife doing the killing. remember they said that ghosts have a stronger connection to the real world on halloween. im convinced its the wife.
it does make sense, it acts more like a poltergeist at the end
it's like pazuzu in the exorcist
There's this moment during the possession segment where she freaks out and her face turns into this gnashing distorted creature for a few frames. It's easy to miss but it's there.

probably that one in the skeleton costume that shows up every where
Skelly dude was too based to be the devil himself
Exactly what the devil would want you to think
probably skelly dude
What's a streaming site I can watch this on in Australia?
Nah. It has too many problems from the constant change in the aesthetic to the bullshit hypnosis and hallucination rules. It gets a generous 6/10.
>the bullshit hypnosis and hallucination rules
lol this was the problem, in the movie with demons
I big lmao'd when the debunker guy not only instantly accepted the demon as real when shit went down, but more than that was immediately pledging his life to evil and demonic bidding for it

You have a demon too?
It's the 10 final minutes that set it apart from other similar movies both in form and content.
