Le Criterion 50% off

Soooooo did you guys pick up any kinos?
>inb5 "I got them for 100% off piratebay"

I'm thinking the Les Blank Documentary box set and Tod Browning Freaks 4k. Anything else that's really rewatchable and not on the Criterion Channel? Kinda also thinking of the Last Waltz. Bummed that Jackie Chan box set isn't half off.

Also there's like an hour left...

I was gonna buy a film or 2 just to support them a bit, but man I really don't want to pay for shipping or arbitrarily increase the amount of my purchase just to not have to pay shipping.

What's even the reasoning behind this?

For this release they haven't said anything about the reasoning as far as I'm aware.
Here's a pic of actual 35mm film frames someone is selling on ebay. Can't say either home release looks like this, but the new one is especially shit.

              Hmm, I take

The Criterion release is probably some kind of 35mm transfer like how it was shown originally in theaters. The versions we're used to seeing are for home video releases, and the higher color saturation in them used to make sense from a technical standpoint for viewing on TVs in the 90's and 2000's. Arguably it looks better, but wasn't how it was intended to look in the first place.

back. Looks like Criterion Black personed with it for some reason.

              >criterion bluray has too much blue/green
              >original film is perfectly neutral balanced color

              Makes u think

That isn’t saturation, that’s a blue cast with contrast cranked up. If you can’t tell basic shit like that why are you pretending to be knowledgeable about any of this?

The top pic is more saturated but lower contrast. The lack of saturation is why the bottom pic seems more blue.

No idea, but perhaps Danny Boyle has gone senile and he wanted the color grade to be different. Criterion has changed colors before when directors/cinematographers have requested it.

Is your screen calibrated? I've seen the Criterion edition and it looks like this. Hell, there's been plenty of people complaining about it.

my screen looks like the color of top with the contrast/brightness of bottom.

More than half the stuff I buy from Shiterion are the old Jap movies, and I have most of those now anyway. I'm not buying any more blu-rays for a while since I have a huge backlog to watch.

Thought about getting the Godzilla set, but while I enjoy Godzilla movies I can't justify paying over $100 for them. Also, I almost always buy my Criterions used on eBay. You can get them dirt cheap and basically new, since the autists who buy them treat them with upmost care and I don't even think they watch them 99% of the time. I've never paid more than $15 for a Criterion release.

Criterion does this shit on purpose because it makes the autists seethe, yet they'll still buy their glorified DVDs of old forgettable movies.

How are Shout/Scream Factory releases? Just getting into 4k collecting, and wan to know who I should look to or avoid.

All my Shout releases are kino. There's also Arrow and Kino Lorber. But at the end of the day its better to check sites like Blu-Ray.com cus autists there will compare the UK and German and other country releases cus surprisingly sometimes the European releases of American movies are higher quality for some stupid reason.
