Why is this such a common trope in movies and tv? In real life smart people always have accomplishments in proportion to their intelligence, but in popular culture every smart character is either a failure of some type, or just autistic.

I don't remember making this comment
Midwits who overestimate themselves find it compelling.
We don’t know where people would be on a fair playing field because we don’t have one.
Presume everyone today is not as great as they could have been had they been free to make something of their lives with the advantages their ancestors had.
The hierarchy would still exist, but instead of being a renter you’d own a house.
A smarter man would own a small estate instead of a mansion.
A poor man would be a renter instead of homeless.
because it's a feelgood story
>In real life smart people always have accomplishments in proportion to their intelligence
Are you 12?
cope
What do you mean "cope"? I'm not talking about myself or my loved ones. Everyone who's been on this earth long enough to be an adult should personally know several counterexamples to your claim.
You personally know several people who you thought were smart because you don't have a good understanding of what intelligence really is. You were basically impressed by someone parroting things outside your frame of reference at you.
>you don't have a good understanding of what intelligence really is.
I went to a top 20 PhD program in physical chemistry. I was friends with NSF fellows, Goldwater scholars, and a Rhodes scholar. I conversed with professors at the top of their field. You are projecting.
You do understand that most professors are midwits right. You won't find a 145+ IQ person in university. It's extremely rare.
makes burnouts feel smart and superior
Because parenting took a radical shift in the mid 80s and parents went from constructive discipline to 100% positive reinforcement. Which meant entire generations of kids were raised being told that they were basically faultless and perfect, regardless of their reality. So when those kids become adults who have no capacity to self-regulate themselves or the destructive behaviors that their parents ought to have stamped out they fail financially and professionally. And rather than reflect on their own failings and work to correct them, they instead project that onto the world and conclude that because they're uniquely smart and capable, like mommy and daddy said they were, it must be the fault of society that they struggle financially and professionally.
Deviating from the mean in too great an amount in either direction is detrimental to succeeding in a system designed with that mean in mind. How is that not obvious? It’s basic. This feels like spite against your intellectual superiors.
i literally scored a perfect 100 on the iq test and i'm homeless
>100iq moron thinks he's an Einstein level genius while being homeless
He'll yeah dude
I don't know how realistic your world view is.
From experience in school, the road is paved with strong intellects combined with poor life structures. I don't think there is a direct correlation between success and intelligence, but many things like socioeconomic status, parenting status, family structure, and many more.
I think a huge myth is that smart people in bad situations will naturally flourish, when most evidence I've seen implies that things like trauma or simply poor discipline is often the deciding factor.
Then again, there's also this sort of social truism that smart people are naturally more miserable which I think ends up being a backwards correlation in people's minds that sad = smart.
Idk, TV is a bad example of real life.
Everything about Lips character is self sabotaging in a way that's pretty unrealistic.
My parents called me stupid my entire life (in fact, I think they've called me stupid more times than they've called me by my actual name) and it got to the point where I went to a psych and had myself evaluated for cognitive disabilities. Turns out I have an IQ of 138.
But my childhood experiences have still impacted my personality. It really doesn't matter how smart you are, if you can't get along with people or you don't like being around them or can't trust them, you'll never be able to deliver on your potential. Most things in life are a team effort.
>high IQ with low cognitive function elsewhere
anon you have the 'tism
You've already posted this.
Why is this board becoming increasingly nothing but stale reposts?
I swear nobody online is even real any more,it feels like everyone is third worlder or a bot.time to go outside I guess, nothing else to do online
i've come to the same conclusion lately
i thought the late 2010s were bad but the 2020s are shaping up to be completely unbearable
Sauce?

Don't bother, her breasts are too sad.
>it feels like everyone is third worlder
i know people here like to blame the iphone for the death of the internet but i personally think the cheap android phone did. billions of third worlders have 24/7 access to the internet and social media thanks to sub $100 Samsungs and China phones
It worked as bait once, which means it'll be reposted again and again until it stops working.
I like it better than the AI coomslop thread
is there anything on the internet that isn't marketing and shilling anymore?I wish more people would learn how to torrent and use fricking adblock
try not browsing Cinemaphile all day you unemployed homosexuals
Go frick yourself, how about that? We do have jobs and subhumans like you makes it unusable
Get a job, do as you preach
i have a job and will unironically spend 10 hours a day on this site
>UHHH HOW DARE YOU NOTICE MY SHILLING,I HAVE A REAL JOB
you have less value than an ant,an ant does honest work.
you made this thread before you demented idiot, you're free to watch something good instead of b***hing here about something you don't like
>trope
go back. It's not a "trope" invented by hollywood, it's a christian archetype
bait thread
It's realistic but this storyline still passed me off. Yeah he dropped out of university ok but did he have to become a trailer dwelling tank top wearing frycook failure? Him leaving college is probably the marker around where the show started to decline too.
Frick off, loser. You made that thread days ago
it's so losers like you can feel like they have a chance at getting somewhere in life
>In real life smart people always have accomplishments in proportion to their intelligence

“Nothing in this world can take the place of good old persistence. Talent won't. Nothing's more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius won't. Unrecognized genius is practically a cliche. Education won't. Why the world is full of educated fools. Persistence and determination alone are all powerful.”
I'm very smart, I'm just unmotivated.
Would you rather watch a movie about someone born with a silver spoon up their ass, gets everything handed to them, works hard as has everything go right?
Its common because everyone has the makings of greatness in them, but life, poor education/parenting, and terrible choices have a way of squandering that. Sometimes all we need is just one chance.
How about a movie that can be watched regularly or backwards.
>Rich guy with everything slowly but surely loses everything due to his horrible decisions
>Complete loser becomes rich with everything slowly but surely due to avoiding bad decisions
>Beyonce Giselle Knowles[a] was born on September 4, 1981, in Houston, Texas, to Celestine "Tina" Knowles (née Beyonce), a hairdresser and salon owner, and Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager.
???
OP character gets multiple chances and squanders them though. It's not a feel-good story or a "he's literally me, I just wasn't given a chance" story. He's a chad genius who repeatedly screws himself out of success and still falls ass backwards into a mountain of pussy at the end of the day. Then he complains about his life even though nobody is holding him back or screwing him over except himself. He's one of the most insufferable characters on TV.
Movies are escapism meant to pacify the audience.
Male losers will never admit they are stupid and lazy. They NEED to believe that they are secretly really smart even though they have never achieved anything in their lives. These movies reinforce their coping mechanisms and allow them to peacefully continue being losers.
define what a winner is in your opinion so we can laugh
it just fricking works
My stupid ass would still say "wow I wonder why those girls were so nice haha"

This show and this character are fricking horrible.
fax
writer self insert
at least that is how they tend to view themselves
and they are wrong
because writers have always used their output as a cope for reality
