this sort of works in real life btw, a girl once teased me about not being confident and withdrawn about sex and told me she thought i was the kind of guy who would be mid 20s and still too scared to admit to even jerking off so i told her how i thought about raping her and that actually got her into bed

It's a very realistic depiction of women, however Maggie and Negan don't actually hook up in the spinoff. Maggie's son was kidnapped by a guy who used to be a Savior and she guilts Negan into helping rescue him.

the barb wire would actually act as a cushion. only works for delivering superficial injuries to the skin. looks cool but doesn't make it any more deadly.

Dead City was alright. There was a really shitty fight scene in the first episode in the bar. And it still had shitty twd logic/writing.
But it was comfy like twd and only 6 episodes meant that the pacing was really good.
I hope all twd series are 6 episode seasons going forward because Daryl also heavily benefited from it

I found it to be total dogshit (particularly the villains and the new characters) and I'm confused as to why so many people gave it positive (albeit not glowing) reviews on this board.
Unbelievable amount of super stale cliches and tropes, unconvincing, boring drama, and the season ends on an incredibly unsatisfying note.

        Anonymous

If you don't like twd, you obviously won't like its spin offs.
If you like twd, dead city and dd are both significantly better than the show just because they have so little filler relatively
(also, dd had much better acting and some nice shots thrown in as well)

I liked the promise of TWD and the specks of kino it had over its course, but overall I think the franchise is a total mess.
It was a totally watchable mess for me, but Dead City was the first time I fast forwarded through scenes (in any show ever).

I just like seeing the post-apocalypse versions of NYC and France (Daryl's show) and how people there adapted. Nail guns and zip lines made sense for NYC. One of the characters in the Daryl spinoff had several flashbacks to when the outbreak started, which is always the best and most interesting time in zombie stories. Fun to see tidbits of how that played out in Paris.

          >Nail guns and zip lines made sense for NYC
I wish they leaned more into that, and less into 2 (two) awful, sulky child characters no one really cares about.
The villains just really didn't work for me either, but that might be because I'm a Balkanoid and all the exotic-sounding foreign stuff they say just sounds stupid to me.

pretty sure Negan is the most popular character after Rick, even moreso than Daryll

  19. 8 months ago

I wish we had more Negan flashbacks. His backstory with Lucille is amazing. He and the Governor are the best characters because they're both studies on how conditions can release the inner inhibitions of ordinary men.

Negan's story about how he saw red and beat the shit out of that obnoxious guy whose kids went to his school is a good glimpse that there was pent-up rage waiting to be released. But he couldn't afford to indulge in it because there's obvious consequences like losing his job and his wife having to be pay the douche's medical bills. Which is why his speech to that biker is all the more telling because once the restraints are off, do not frick with people with repressed emotions and desires.

We have no idea what kind of man Philip Blake was pre-apocalypse. All we know is that he was a family man with a wife and daughter. They seemed happy in that photo, but we have no idea if they had marital problems or if he was sick of domestic life. And when shit hit the fan, he went off the deep end.
