Yeah but it needed better cinematography to begin with.
Eva has some of the best cinematography out there.
Hisao Shirai is the most underrated person in anime.
>End of Eva >Ghost in the Shell film >Perfect Blue >My Neighbor Totoro >Armitage III >WXIII: Patlabor
I take it you like genre films. What do you mean when you say they're actual films? Would you name the opposite then, that is, an inauthentic or dishonest film?
Something that actually makes effective use of shots, angles, lighting and colour to invoke things in the viewer.
Most anime is terribly shot out there. I have seen some real boring use of these effects for a lot of anime.
But End of Eva is definitely not one of these. In fact it showed the potential of anime cinematography 2bh to invoke things in people.
You wouldn't have 5cm Per Second without it.
Or many of the psychological films in anime.
Or any of the Hollywood films that clearly were influenced by it post 1997.

Does a film really need to have those things in order to be successful? Some experimental cinema, silent films, B&W films, documentaries, indies and stationary cinema do not meet all that criteria and yet they invoke things in the viewer. Are you saying they do not count as actual films?

No. Composition and lighting are not obligatory requirements in order to have a film. Most Cassavetes films do not have really good composition or lighting and yet they are really intense and personal. The essential and defining trait of cinema is editing.
It's miles better than rebuild, but it has dumb fan service moments and moments that really felt "empty".
And the cinematography, while ok in the series, was sub par when compared to end of eva.
Rebuild should have been EoE tier cinematography but for the entire series.
Instead it was worse than the original with fanservice and dumb direction.
Anno sorta tried to claw it back with rebuild 3, because he was back in the mode clearly after sitting on his ass for so long, but by then it was pretty much over.
I don't understand how fan service is a negative. Isn't "feels empty" usually code for "I'm a moron zoomer?" I'm guessing you didn't like long pauses or scenes of scenery. >cinematography
lol
They even use the fan service to its advantage. Every end of the episode you have Misato narrating she's going to provide fan service to the viewers, then in episode 12 you have the flashback scene to the 2nd impact with a closeup shot of Misato's scar on her breast region.
Empty in the sense that it's CLEARLY padded to stretch the run time for an episodic series.
You notice it because it's shot dull and nothing real interesting happens. McGuffins tend to be key here.
Luckily, Eva is all about the ultimate McGuffin mystery that is completely unresolvable and infinitely complex.
Which is why it's a complete rip off of Jacob's Ladder.

No, but after I watched it I was shocked how similar the feel was to EoE. It was near identical with the feeling.
Only unlike JL, EoE doesn't end in heaven, it ends in hell, beside satan, aka, Asuka who is clearly dressed in a sexy red latex suit to provoke that aspect and is definitely not in a sexy red latex suit for other "thought provoking" and "boner provoking" reasons.
A bit like Jezebel in JL 2bh.
And even the monsters in JL remind me of it too. And the torment.
And the timing of when it hit cinemas is real suspiciously close to the time anno started to design eva.
I don't think you understand anime then.
Because it's precisely the reason why it has it's frame rate. It's done so to cut costs and save time so they had more freedom to do more interesting things with the cinematography.
And Eva proves it can do things that perhaps even CGI cannot do without the influence of AI or something. The method of it's production makes it better to produce more artistic shots and whatnot compared to standard western animation. You can do things with the colours and designs that you just couldn't get away with at Disney.

she would consent to it if he made the move but he never did it because he is the archtypical beta male incel otaku anime watcher that anno hates who jerks off to anime breasts. He's directly calling out the viewer for being the source of their own misery.
She consents, Shinji is just too much of a pussy to take action. She is actually pleased when he strangles her because that's him letting go of his coward ego and acting on his accordance. I don't think it's related to her issues though - most likely Shinji just breaking through his own and that makes her happy (because she likes him).

no one thinks eva is deep because of the bible references, they just like the character dynamics, the only message of the show is that you should like yourself because no one else will ever empathize with (you) as much as you do, also the third impact is the greatest sequence in cinema
I watched all of this shit show just because dweebs hyped the movie so much and then both the show and the movie were kinda shit like almost all anime.

from what I remember they spoke like 2 times in the show and it's not like you can live all your life without guidance and suddenly spend one week with an older guy to become a well adjusted person, being a father/older brother is much more than talking about melons and how different men and women are once

Both the last 2 episodes and EoE take place at the same time. The end of the show is an abstract version of the movie's events, showing Instrumentality as it happens in the characters' minds. EoE is what is actually happening outside their minds in the lead up to Instrumentality. The "congratulations" moment lines up with Shinji rejecting Instrumentality in the movie.
Anonymous
Interesting thing is that apparently japanese audiences didn't think that of episode 26 at the time it was released. They thought the "Congratulations" was Shinji accepting Instrumentality instead - by becoming one with everyone after overcoming his issues. I wonder how western audiences would have interpreted it had they not seen EoE right afterwards since there are a lot of cultural differences between the west and east.

It even rips off the train motif and instrumentality feels exactly like the experience of Jacob's Ladder.
I thought it was more about how terrible Gendo is. Rei is a blank slate and Gendo was her only connection and a bad influence that led to her prematurely dying.
Rei is not really a person to me. She's more an entity in psychosis. Lilith. Sorta halfway between a human and whatever Kaworu represents.
Then again, Kaworu also has that psychosis to a degree, but he feels completely inhuman.
They feel more like deities than people.
Asuka is 100% a person though and represents that human tether.
None of them felt like real people and you need to seek help because you might think normal people behave that way when they really don't.
Even Kaworu acts more "human" than Rei. Rei is basically a lobotomised Kaworu and I will never understand why she wasn't built better as a character. Kaworu should act like she does, not the other way around. She should act more human.

Kaworu gives me the same vibes, somehow, as the xenomorphs in Alien without being an xenomorph.
That presence.
The rebuilds totally frick this up and render all of that kino meaningless and redundant btw.
He should be terrifying. I found him terrifying in the series. He was completely harmless and humanised in rebuild 3 and I was a bit pissed off. Rebuilds just became pure meaningless schlock from then.
Don't watch the rebuilds.

I don't mind that.
But why was Kaworu turned into something more human.
He should have been more "exotic" in the sense that he was completely inhuman. Rei shouldn't have felt more distant that him.

I guess because he had to act somewhat normal so shinji could fall in love with him and make his death more painful for him

That's why he should have had better grace and appeal to shinji. See that's the problem at the end of the season, he's too human and there's no reason why he shouldn't be inhuman.

Kaworu was SELEE's Rei, they had more time with him since he was born when 2nd impact occured and was taken in by them and based their dummy system off of him. Rei was made during Yui's contact experiment and was under Gendo's, the main villain of the show, care in a comparatively shorter time.
Kaworu was already using his AT field by then and it had to take him talking to Rei for her to finally use it as well.

>I will never understand why she wasn't built better as a character.
Clearly Anno wasn't that interested in her. Her development basically stops after Shinji rescues her and she smiles, after that she's just sort of around.
Speaking of Kaworu, I always thought it was weird how late he was introduced. Shinji killing him would've been more impactful if he spent longer than 10 minutes with Kaworu.
Anonymous
Whole point of Kaworu was that he shows up for one episode and that it had to take an Angel of all things to tell him that he has feelings for him only to have him ripped away from Shinji. He had the perfect amount of screen time.
I like how Rei III's deadpan stare looks noticeably different from Rei II's deadpan stare.
None of them felt like real people and you need to seek help because you might think normal people behave that way when they really don't.

she would consent to it if he made the move but he never did it because he is the archtypical beta male incel otaku anime watcher that anno hates who jerks off to anime breasts.
>This chinese cartoon about mechas is le good and le deep
>Why?
>Be-because it has surface level bible references
>And what does that say about anything?
>T-that depression is le real and le sad and that loneliness is le bad... STOP ASKING QUESTIONS OK, THIS CARTOON FOR CHILDREN IS LE GOOD BECAUSE I'M AS PATHETIC AND GAY AS THE MAIN CHARACTER.
I have more respect for DBZ hispanics than for evagays.
meanwhile Cinemaphile be watching bluey and thinking it's high art lol
no one thinks eva is deep because of the bible references, they just like the character dynamics, the only message of the show is that you should like yourself because no one else will ever empathize with (you) as much as you do, also the third impact is the greatest sequence in cinema
Anno himself admitted the bible references are only there because he thought they looked/sounded cool
and he lied or was too stupid to understand them
EVA was israelite brainwashing and Gnosticism glorification
meds
I watched all of this shit show just because dweebs hyped the movie so much and then both the show and the movie were kinda shit like almost all anime.
At least Asuka was hot.
Schizofuel
Shinji being gay ruined it, homosexuals deserve the rope
>dad doesn't give a flying frick about you
>mom dead
>kind of friends with people at the school but nothing serious
>hot redhead you live with is a b***h and constantly bullies and abuses you
>hot drunktard you live with tried to use you to make herself feel better after her bf died because she's a prostitute
>finally one guy shows up and for the first time in your life gives you genuine affection and actually likes spending time with you
I don't blame him
If I was in Shinji's shoes I would frick all of them and pilot the fricking robot and beat the shit out of everyone! Not cry liek a little Nip homosexual.
shinji was a 14 year old without a mother or father figure you can't expect him to act like chad when no one raised him properly to act like one
Simon from TTGL was also 14
and he had a gigachad older brother that taught him how to become a man, shinji was completely alone
having a proper father figure definitively helps, specially when you're an awkward middle schooler
>shinji was completely alone
BULLSHIT, he had Kaji
from what I remember they spoke like 2 times in the show and it's not like you can live all your life without guidance and suddenly spend one week with an older guy to become a well adjusted person, being a father/older brother is much more than talking about melons and how different men and women are once
Kaji tried, not his fault Shinji was gay
actually, yes it does
you just have to be motivated and want to change
but shinji did change at the end of the show, the whole congratulations scene is him realizing that he can become a better and stronger person and that the first step to do so is learning to love himself despite his flaws
and then EOE he is WORSE THAN EVER???
that's the confusing part, the last episodes of the show that are all introspective monologues happen during the movie in the instrumentality part after the third impact, EOE starts right after shinji was forced to kill kaworu
>the last episodes of the show that are all introspective monologues happen during the movie in the instrumentality part after the third impact
This is headcanon and always have been
it lines up perfectly and it doesn't contradict anything shown in the series so why not
yeah it doesnt make sense either because what happens after the impact scene is what shinji goes through in those 2 episodes except he doesn’t accept it like he does in the show’s ending
it's all because anno hadn't planned the movie before, he just made it because the ending of the actual show got a lot of backlash for cutting from the main plot so abruptly
Yeah but anno has to make money, anon.
Even if that means ruining his magnum opus and reputation.
He changed well before the ending. We had the entire dancing episode for instance. I think the people that meem shinji is useless never watched the show.
Gurren Lagann is for manbabies who cried Shinji wasn't epic enough
seethe
TTGL was more deep than EVA
if you think kids from loving families are more likely to be chads you are mistaken
single parent or orphans are at a higher advantage but they are wild cards and can deviate from either extreme
So how does the Human Instrumentality Project work again?
>Adam + Lilith + Unit 1 = Tree of Life = everyone turns into fanta
???
why post this here instead of Cinemaphile ?
why post in this thread salty b***h can't just ignore it?
I hate Jap cartoons
because Cinemaphile is just filled with generals and the jannies are unironic trannies
Cinemaphile has the best mods by far
>uhh trannies!!?!?
Obsessed schizo
that's a good way to prove the other anon right
Except maybe Jacob's Ladder, which it clearly ripped things from (came out about 1990 so it's quite likely Anno saw it).
It even rips off the train motif and instrumentality feels exactly like the experience of Jacob's Ladder.
It really is pure kino.
How many movies have you watched gay?
>babies first 3deep5me
Best anime ever made. The series is meh but that movie is good shit.
Sex with Rei, Asuka, Misato and Ritsuko, in that order.
veganal with Rei
Anal with Misato
Oral with Asuka
All in a row in that order.
facial abuse with asuka*
I KNOW
I KNOW I'VE LET YOU DOWN
I'VE BEEN A FOOL TO MYSELF
I THOUGHT THAT I COULD LIVE FOR NO ONE ELSE
frick I love this movie
Unironically what was her problem?
Probably was manifesting yui's primal feelings to a degree.
Ritsuko is best girl.
rei II did feel like an actual person, rei I and III are way more inhuman/godly
None of them felt like real people and you need to seek help because you might think normal people behave that way when they really don't.
Even Kaworu acts more "human" than Rei. Rei is basically a lobotomised Kaworu and I will never understand why she wasn't built better as a character. Kaworu should act like she does, not the other way around. She should act more human.
>Rei is basically a lobotomised Kaworu and I will never understand why she wasn't built better as a character.
Anno has gone on record saying that he lost interest in Rei after episode 6
Kaworu gives me the same vibes, somehow, as the xenomorphs in Alien without being an xenomorph.
That presence.
The rebuilds totally frick this up and render all of that kino meaningless and redundant btw.
He should be terrifying. I found him terrifying in the series. He was completely harmless and humanised in rebuild 3 and I was a bit pissed off. Rebuilds just became pure meaningless schlock from then.
Don't watch the rebuilds.
yeah sure rei was always really autistic but I just remembered the moment when shinji tells her to smile more and it seems like there is a person in there
I don't mind that.
Like pic related.
Which ALSO ripped off Jacob's Ladder.
Anon, Kaworu genuinely liked Shinji, he wasn't trying to trick him and inflict him with pain you idiot
I know that I meant that they wrote him like a normal guy because of that
>Kaworu
>capable of liking and not just mimicking
Worse than evil.
You're a moron, but that's okay, you're in good company.
Gurren Lagann was better and actually has an uplifting message, unlike Evan Crybaby Gelion
Your problem is assuming that being "uplifting" makes a piece of media better
Ttgl is the escapist power fantasy slop NGE is criticizing
Is it time to admit that it's kind of an mediocre show with surface level deepness and people just like it for the hot 14 year old girls?
Absolutely not, I'm convinced anno plagiarised Jacob's Ladder to the point where Hollywood should sue.
evagays are an embarrassment
I WISH
THAT I COULD TURN BACK TIME
CAUSE NOW THE GUILT IS ALL MINE
Rei is the only good thing left in this shitshow of a franchise.
