typical woman moment, c**t deserved to get choked out
I love RotS but even as a kid watching it in the theater I always felt like the moment when Anakin loses is so anti-climactic given all the shit they just went through in that duel.
Honestly, I was kind of expecting something along the lines of that whole thing where the two warriors have that final charge at each other and swing, then one falls after a dramatic pause, but then I thought that's kinda too predictable, so when it happened and Anakin just jumps and got sliced I was kind of relieved.
But it's like, they were acrobat-ting around this self-destructing facility built on a volcano doing wild moves and then it's just... Over. It's a powerful scene afterwards but I think given it being the birth of Darth Vader and all, the final moment of the duel could have been a bit more exciting than that. That's just me though.
>Did I tell you about my padawan, Anakin Skywalker? Your father? Long story short after a long battle inside a volcano, I cut off 75% of his limbs and let his nugget torso role next to a lava river. He didn't fall in, mind you, but was close enough to spontaneously combust from the heat alone. His screams of agony still ring in my ears. I took his lightsaber and left him there to writhe in unimaginable agony, presumably he'd die within meer hours. I loved him like a brother, you know, and he was a good friend.
That was for the pottery moment of Luke also choosing to spare Vader’s life after he defeats him in the throne room. Ultimately both of those acts of ‘mercy’ were required for anakin to bring balance to the force.
I always liked it, because I figured that Anakin has more raw power and would win in a prolonged, head-on fight, so Obi-Wan had to rely on his more refined fencing and superior tactical thinking to seize the opportunity, which was compounded by Anakin overestimating himself (something he's prone to do)
There's at least 3 times in that long fight where Vader was wide open and Obi Wan didn't capitalize, because he didn't want to hurt him. It wasn't the best ending but it was clear that Vader/Anakin wasn't a better fighter than Obi Wan
In the making-of segments about the fight they say the choreography was difficult because they wanted them to have almost identical styles being master and student (which is how you get the much-meme'd saber spinning sequence), with the difference between them being anakin's aggression
I liked it, sells how dangerous Anakin had become that Obi-Wan couldn't beat him straight up and had to ultimately rely on the environment rather than raw power. Wouldn't have made sense for Obi-Wan to straight up beat him since earlier in the movie Obi-Wan got absolutely b***h slapped by Dooku while Anakin was able to hang a bit better. (Dooku definitely wasn't going all out on Anakin, but he also didn't plan on losing his hands)
This scene messed me up a bit the first time I saw it. Why is george so obsessed with mutilation?
Would the ST have been less shit if someone had gotten something chopped off?
You know Anakin, I think we should talk about this whole time. You see, Sheev has been acting awfully suspicious lately. I believe he's manipulating you in some way by inciting your feelings towards Padme. Has he ever talked to you about, I don't know, The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise? That's a huge red flag right there. Just a heads up.

In the movie star wars (a new hope) obi says "let go luke" and that's how luke wins the day, by letting go (of control, trying to 'be the one who fires the shot'). Obi tells Anakin here to let go and he instead 'holds tighter' to control, to what he wants to have which is shown by him literally holding Padme so tightly that she suffocates and dies.
Let go to win, hold on and you lose, it's one thing.
I don't think anybody even knows this is the idea though because it doesn't come across it just seems like he randomly spergs and strangles her like brian laundrie
So his whole light saber gimmick was just playing defense until his opponent gets gassed, which makes sense in all of his fights except where he did a Peter Pan over Maul. Somebody explain that shit for me.
Where? Anakin's a far better fighter than Obi-Wan in ROTS and clearly has more raw power behind him. The fight with Dooku is a perfect example of this; near the end you can tell that Dooku just cannot meet Anakin's strikes, he's too strong.

Cool, but do you mind pointing out exactly how you made that assessment? What exposition in the films reveals that Anakin is paranoid of Obi-wan, the man who is a surrogate father and brother-in-arms to him? Anakin flipped within 1.5 seconds. Please explain, because earlier in the film Anakin risked his life and the life of the Emporer himself to rescue Obi-wan.
Or is this just you talking out of your ass? Thanks.
watch the film moron, they part ways when obi heads to utapau after which anakin betrays windu and massacres the jedi temple, showing remorse for it all on mustafar but trying to rationalize it knowing he can't turn back. he wants obi-wan to join him truly believing the jedi are corrupt but knows he never will and says as much to palpatine. he both loves and hates obi-wan, the whole prequel trilogy shows anakin desperate for his approval like a son to a father. paranoia is common when you have a guilty conscience and your father just showed up with your secret lover telling you off for your misdeeds
>he wants obi-wan to join him

Nice headcanon, but I'm asking when and where the trilogy provides this information. You seem to be forgetting the fact that the whole reason why Anakin did all this in the first place is because he wanted to protect Padme, and now all of a sudden he wants to kill her in 1.5 seconds because Obi-wan has le arrived? No conversation; no questions. He just turns into a wife beater. It's shit writing, m8. Just admit it.
>What exposition in the films reveals that Anakin is paranoid of Obi-wan
The entire conversation they have when he asks Anakin to spy on the Chancellor. Beyond that, Anakin is funneling his general suspicion of the order, which has continuously disrespected him, and personifying it in Obi-Wan.
lmao, so Anakin is asked to spy on the Chancellor, and somehow, someway, he finds it okay to turn on Obi-wan and more importantly, to choke out his pregnant wife? What other shit theories do you have? Humor me.
Zoomers literally can't understand implication and suggestion.
Once again, I'm asking where in the film is this exposition provided. I know you worship these trash movies but try for a second to use some critical thinking.
Because he just spent 2-3 days betraying his order, murdering unarmed combatants, and murdering children. That shit creates a lot of stress which results in people acting irrationally. Unironically it's actually an example of good writing because it actually takes into account that people don't always follow a straight line mentally when under a lot of stress and will do shit that is against their best interests.

I see your point anon, and you're the only person to give a solid response. While I see what Lucas was trying to accomplish, I don't see any of that information thoroughly provided to the audience.
In the moments leading up to Anakin and Obi-wan's epic fight, Anakin and Padme are discussing recent events, and Anakin, while slightly annoyed at the mention of Obi-wan, assures his pregnant wife that he wishes rid the Emporer so that she and him can rule together. It's a moment of love and affection that he is showing his wife, regardless of how twisted it is.
Then, upon glancing over to the ship where Obi-wan stands, he immediately within 1.5 seconds turns on his wife with a blatant accusation and attempts to murder her (yes, murder, because choking someone directly leads to death). Why would he choke her if the whole point in the first place was to protect her? Why not immediately attempt to choke Obi-wan? In choking Padme, he is allowing a highly skilled Jedi like Obi-wan an opening to strike. Hell, why not just TALK to Obi-wan or Padme? How does he even know Obi-wan is there to kill him? Perhaps Obi-wan is there to join Anakin. All these questions are discarded within an instant. Anakin has no history as a wife beater. He has no history of homocidal tendencies against Obi-wan, and even risks his life multiple times to aid Obi-wan, but now suddenly hates and wants to murder him? Killing unarmed combatants makes sense. I get it. But him turning on his pregnant wife and surrogate father, both of whom he loves, is a blatant assassination of Anakin's entire character arc.
Where is the consistency? Where is the set up? Why does Anakin's perspective immediately shift upon simply glancing at Obi-wan? >inb4 le dark side is evil because... you have to watch 10 seasons of the children's TV show THE CLONE WARS
>lmao, so Anakin is asked to spy on the Chancellor, and somehow, someway, he finds it okay to turn on Obi-wan and more importantly, to choke out his pregnant wife?
For all intents and purposes, Anakin has been indoctrinated since the age of ten years old to be a military asset for the Jedi order, they constantly disrespect and distrust him, simultaneously trying to push him into a life of asceticism with their ideals while making him a weapon with their actions. That combined with the influence of Palpatine from a very young age has molded Anakin into a schizo. He's pushed to the edge with Padme's looming pregnancy and death and makes a rash decision. Of course je's not thinking rationally, but the events are there to show why his schizo thought process would take him there. So when the person he's been doing this all for shows up unexpectedly with the man who represents the jedi order's stranglehold over his life, of course he reacts violently. Don't get me wrong the prequels have their problems, loads of them, but showing why Anakin turned out this way really isn't one of them.

Anon, it's almost like you've never been married, never had a child, never had a comrade, never had a father figure, and never had a best friend.
Listen to what I'm asking you.
How does Anakin go from being happy to reunite with his pregnant wife to suddenly wanting to murder her upon simply glancing over at his surrogate father, who, aside from b***hing about like any normal teenager would (AOTC), has shown love and devotion to, and even risked his own life to save multiple times? What caused that trigger in that very moment (keep in mind too that the last time Anakin and Obi-wan saw each other, they were on good terms with one another with zero tension)?

They were tennuously on good terms, Anakin wished him well when he was going on a dangerous mission, but he was still wary of him after Obi-Wan requested he spy on Palpatine. You're also neglecting to mention the context, why would Obi-Wan be on Mustafar? Anakin knows Obi-Wan isn't there to reminisce, not after Anakin has killed children and genocided the order that Obi-Wan has been a dogmatic defender of. There's also the context that Padme was calling Anakin crazy immediately beforehand. The two closest people in his life are now entirely ideologically opposed to him and appear to be in cahoots. He knows Obi-Wan is either there to kill him or stop him, which Anakin believes would kill his wife.

>he was still wary of him after Obi-Wan requested he spy on Palpatine
That's nothing more than headcannon. Cut that shit out, Anon. Anakin had no problem reporting on Palpatine to Windu the moment he sniffed treachery. > Anakin knows Obi-Wan isn't there to reminisce
Another lie. You're fill of shit, Anon. Truth is Anakin has no idea why Obi-wan is there. Provide a video clip or line of dialogue that indicates Anakin knows what Obi-wan knows. He even wrongly assumes that Padme brought Obi-wan there to kill him (clearly false, since Padme had no idea Obi-wan snuck on her ship). >The two closest people in his life are now entirely ideologically opposed to him and appear to be in cahoots.
Again, that is simply not true. Please rewatch the entire scene again. At no point does Padme tell Anakin that his actions are wrong; on the contrary, she advises Anakin to run away with her to start a family, because she loves and supports him. As for Obi-wan, he doesn't make his intentions clear until AFTER Anakin turns into a wife beater.
You're entire perspective on the scene is skewed. Please education yourself.

Anon I don't mean to insult you, but are you autistic? When Palps reveals himself Anakin draws his saber on him, but is immediately shown to be conflicted and doesn't act on it and lets Palpatine give his spiel, he's very obviously conflicted. Before he finds out he's very openly against the idea of spying on the Chancellor. There's a reason the council has Obi-Wan pitch the idea to him and even then Anakin's deeply offended that he'd be asked to do something like that. >Another lie. You're fill of shit, Anon. Truth is Anakin has no idea why Obi-wan is there. Provide a video clip or line of dialogue that indicates Anakin knows what Obi-wan knows.
Anon he just murdered children, why would Obi-Wan be there if not to seek justice? How would Obi-Wan even know where Anakin was without knowing what Anakin had done? Of course he thinks Kenobi and Padme are in it together when they ride in on the same goddamn ship. >Again, that is simply not true. Please rewatch the entire scene again. At no point does Padme tell Anakin that his actions are wrong;
She's in disbelief then offers a desperate plea

he's lost the plot and his wife for whom he did such terrible things and sold his soul is telling him he's crazy and she can't be with him anymore. in his mind what he's done is wrong but ultimately justified, and if only he could make the people he loves understand that they wouldn't hate him. neither yoda nor obi-wan took him seriously and now padme says she opposes what he's done too, which is when he notices obi-wan. padme didn't know he stowed away but here he is and in anakin's position and state of mind he concludes he's been brought to stop him, or kill him. idk why you're getting filtered, are you autistic?

How does nobody notice that this scene is a reference to Indiana Jones reaching for the Holy Grail, and his father tells him to "Let it go. Indiana. Let it go."
Padme was willing to leave everything behind and run away with Anakin even after she found out he killed children. It was only when he said democracy isn't the best form of government that she said he was going down a path she couldn't follow.

>So when the person he's been doing this all for shows up unexpectedly with the man who represents the jedi order's stranglehold over his life, of course he reacts violently.
>That's nothing more than headcannon. Cut that shit out, Anon. Anakin had no problem reporting on Palpatine to Windu the moment he sniffed treachery.
Anon he just murdered children, why would Obi-Wan be there if not to seek justice? How would Obi-Wan even know where Anakin was without knowing what Anakin had done? Of course he thinks Kenobi and Padme are in it together when they ride in on the same goddamn ship.
>Again, that is simply not true. Please rewatch the entire scene again. At no point does Padme tell Anakin that his actions are wrong;
She's in disbelief then offers a desperate plea
he's lost the plot and his wife for whom he did such terrible things and sold his soul is telling him he's crazy and she can't be with him anymore. in his mind what he's done is wrong but ultimately justified, and if only he could make the people he loves understand that they wouldn't hate him. neither yoda nor obi-wan took him seriously and now padme says she opposes what he's done too, which is when he notices obi-wan. padme didn't know he stowed away but here he is and in anakin's position and state of mind he concludes he's been brought to stop him, or kill him. idk why you're getting filtered, are you autistic?
watch the film moron, they part ways when obi heads to utapau after which anakin betrays windu and massacres the jedi temple, showing remorse for it all on mustafar but trying to rationalize it knowing he can't turn back. he wants obi-wan to join him truly believing the jedi are corrupt but knows he never will and says as much to palpatine. he both loves and hates obi-wan, the whole prequel trilogy shows anakin desperate for his approval like a son to a father. paranoia is common when you have a guilty conscience and your father just showed up with your secret lover telling you off for your misdeeds
The jedi order DISRESPECKED Anakin.
That makes it ok to murder children.
>anakin you're acting a bit unhinged can you please calm down a bit
>AYO WHY THE FUH YOU DISRESPECKIN ME? DAS DISREPECKFUL, RUN THAT SHIT homie RUN THAT SHIT? GET UP IN MY FRICKIN FACE homie DONT TRY ME WIT DAT SHIT FRICK YOU HOE
He truly was a Dark Lord of the Sith.
I didn't say it was okay, just that a moron like Anakin would use that as justification
Zoomers literally can't understand implication and suggestion.
Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen.
I'm jedi temple
How does nobody notice that this scene is a reference to Indiana Jones reaching for the Holy Grail, and his father tells him to "Let it go. Indiana. Let it go."
Padme was willing to leave everything behind and run away with Anakin even after she found out he killed children. It was only when he said democracy isn't the best form of government that she said he was going down a path she couldn't follow.
got me thinking how wes anderson would've shot this
