it's popular because people can't fathom the idea of absolute existential dread and nothingness
baby needs to put a face to everything
On the other hand, how can you make a mainstream horror film for the masses if you don't put a face to the Big Evil? Do you think psychological horror thrillers are as popular on the big screen as the other types? >inb4 Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity 1
This was unironically a different time, especially in BWP's case. Both also heavily relied on the (then) new found footage cinematography and advertised themselves as real stories.
It's hard selling faceless horror to the masses for 1 and a half hour minimum.
Heh, I think it's fine. I reread a lot of Lovecraft stories last years and I realized that his reputation as "the master of unseen horror because seeing his monsters literally drive everyone insane" is greatly unearned. He was very meticulate about describing his creatures, and it was never the simple fact of seeing them that drove men insane, it was the realization that they, and by extension mankinds, were but ants compared to them
Ive read a few lovecraft stories. Isnt call of cthulhu literally just a guy finding the outside of cthulhus temple on some rock in the ocean? And then flees when he can hear cthulhu coming up? Yeah that story was kinda fricking lame.
>From the twisted mind of James Wan >i have to cut my leg off, I'm going insaaannneeee
Highly doubt he could do lovecraftian psychological horror right
>Dagon was really good
Yeah, except for the CGI. Also, I think it would be even better if Jeffrey Combs was the main character. The guy looked like him, but lacked his charisma.
After reading a bunch of his stories you just know what to expect and it becomes really funny.
Prof Angell got killed? Black person was responsible.
A bunch of cultists in Louisiana? They are all some Black person-latino mutts.
Oh shit, one of the scientists saw a similar statuette like the one in Louisiana? He saw degenerate Eskimos worshipping it.
When you learn that another guy got killed by cultists you just wait for their ethnicity to be revealed and Lovecraft doesn't disappoint. >Two Lascar sailors at once helped him to his feet, but before the ambulance could reach him he was dead.
Of course.
Racism will be the real monster
Is he finally gonna be the wan to do it justice?
Carlos!
I'm not optimistic. The instant you put Cthulhu on screen in a comprehensible, physical way, you've lost the game.

who gives a shit?
they make a bunch of random movies that flop hard
why can't they make a lovecraftian one too?

He literally describes every single one of his creatures, lol.
What about Underwater?
One of his lamest short stories that is famous for some reason.
>muh tentacle baddie ZOINKS!
I swear...

sorry but this guy is up there with Jason Blum on horrorslop tier list so it should not excite you that he is doing this
james wan lacks subtlety

Cast Black person-man
idris elbow
Jack Blackface
They hate Lovecraft because he was a chud, so they will diversify the frick out of it.
Also Asian Americans are the worst ethnicity in America right now.
Modern Lovecraft will never work.
Ahem
Well, it's one of his few stories that aren't about non-whites being evil.
Dagon was really good.
this was boring
>Dagon was really good

Wrong
Why don't white people do big Lovecraft productions anymore? Are we burned out on it?
Why let white directors do it when you can get some worthless oriental to do it?
as usual they are going to portrait it very physical imposing rather than a psychic as in the novels.
It's pretty physical in the novel. It shows up at the end.
It's going to be so good. Or really bad. Either way I'm going to check it out bros!
Gonna fricking suuuuuuck
Is he going to eat Cthulu or frick it?
Daily reminder I said this should have happened a long time ago.
Everyone must apologise to me now.
Hi James, who’s in the cast?
Yo' MAMA as Cthulhu
*Dabs*
Part of Lovecraft's charm is his racism.
This moron has never made a good movie apart from aquaman.
The conjuring is pretty good
>apart from aquaman
That one was crap too.
