The guy is also gay which has zero relevence to the plot. It's just pure woke pandering. Great art doesnt pander as much as this movie does especially to the woke movement. The film lacks authenticity due to its insistence of being politicized.

Unironically the whale is the daughter, or at least the idea of her imo. Frasier has this romantic idea that shes secretly smart and kind and that if he can just be a cool teacher and dad all her assumed good qualities will come out and they will both finally be happy. In reality she is a terror, more or less irredeemable, and he is the farthest thing from cool, in part because he ruined his life for her sake. But he still chases the whale.
The whole thing about the whale is that he is eating himself to a fat monstrosity to distract the world about what horrible shitty person he is by fricking over his family.

Well yea thats the other half of the angle and that quote reinforces it i think. The playwright knew everypony would see whale and think it must be the fat character, but then if you look at the script the way an english teacher would, you see parallels to moby dick and then you see frasier is ahab and not the whale. Thigh admittedly i havent read moby dick and i also did not like this movie and did not pay much attention to it.

This gets deathfat psychology wrong but the nasty female characters are more interesting because of how vile they are, which is probably only that way to force sympathy onto the “whale” or whatever. The fake missionary kid got the only good ending despite the movie being cynical and cold about God.

The themes of the movie are not well thought out. He triples down on his sins and selfishness, hurts those around him, kills himself and then ascends to heaven.
One funny thing that those fawning over the film miss is that homosexuality is being portrayed as a repulsive and negative trait. Would the movie had have been better if he wasn't gay? Probably not because it's not realistic that he would seduce a young female student, the character would come across as more of a pedo than a deviant coombrain. I think they should have just been more subtle about it instead of opening up with gay porn
