For a Few Dollars More is better.
Let's not split hairs over a great trilogy
I fricking hate this movie, it constantly overshadows better films of its ilk
Pic unrelated.
I think its funny how they review bomb things like children with video games.
>4 kurosawa movies
he's really not THAT good
nobody who seeks out kurosawa and watches more than one of his movies is going to rate him poorly. It's always somebody who heard a Hollywood person they like gushing over kurosawa, so they rate his films on the basis that he set the groundwork for any other movies they like in the current era. Taken in isolation they are good but not 4 of the top 20 of all time good. It's just hard to give middling reviews when everyone knows the height of the pedestal they were placed on decades after release
kurosawa is a better director than any of the hollywood filmmakers who derived influence from his work
Nice try psued, his films have some of the best performances of all time and his stories are told masterfully. You are unable to recognize quality for yourself so you instead value obscurity. Back to the /film/ discord general with you.
Yes he is.
Some obvious absurdities and recent biases, but no worse than lots of lists.
Worse than mine.
that's a pretty based list you've got there sir
>that top 5
>no bullitt
what are you doing
Bullit doesn't make sense. Seven Ups and (obviously) French Connection are the superior D'Antoni / Hickman kino.
Did you know that other countries make films as well?
Yes, there are five Brits and one German.
Do I watch movies in other languages?
None of the best directors of all time are anglophones
9.5/10 list.
Could use some more genre variety, but otherwise you have great taste anon.

Sex with Gwen
Ran and Seven Samurai are both better than everything on your list.
>Capeshit for Japanese boomers
No thanks.
-Man
Kys, moronic

watch harakiri
I have. It's okay, but far from best movie ever material.
Holy shit, the projection.
12 Angry Men at #3 is based but capeshit being on the list at all is super cringe.
12 Angry Men at #3 is based but LOTR being on the list at all is super cringe.
>come and see
Why is this such a meme?
Unironically a very good movie but not for the reasons the redditors jumped on the bandwagon claims.
The kid makes weird faces at the camera to show that war is bad
1. Good movie.
2. Somewhat underground. Thus people talk about it since few heard about it.
3. Foreign film - bonus points.
4. A few strong shots that are perfect for posting.
5. Became a meme on Cinemaphile, and then spread to reddit and elsewhere like most online tv/film culture.
Cinemaphile is way more influential than many think but it's all in the background, and it doesn't hit mainstream until it hits reddit.
>Cinemaphile is way more influential than many think but it's all in the background
We are. You know why the prequels are memed upon and loved online? Cinemaphile was riffing on them and joking about them for YEARS then /r/prequelmemes was started which reposted all of our jokes. Then people who genuinely loved the prequels came in and then it took off. After that they started creating their own content that was praising the films rather than mocking them like Cinemaphile did.
That happens time and time again, but it's mainly reddit or twitter that takes Cinemaphile content then shows it to the rest of the internet. Come and See was of course an obscure critical darling, but it was Cinemaphile that spammed the film into relevance after the Bluray was released. You could likely just do the same with any old random ass film, and then reddit or letterbox will "discover" the film and suddenly it'll see a resurgence.
This. /film/ is always bringing old obscure movies to the surface as well
Please. I try getting you homosexuals to watch obscure kino all the time but I never see anyone else talk about the genius of Damon Packard or the brilliance of After Last Season.
Cinemaphile is just edgy twitter at this point
Nothing mentioned in /film/ is obscure, it’s mainly discussion about the shlock in the OP pic and similar films
Because nazis are shown as cartoon villains so trannies love it
Too much hollywood slop
Why the frick is the new Spiderman movie there
It's that good.
A lot of trannies and lgbt rating 5 stars
That website is all trannies and the movie has a troon in it.
it's new
I don't know, I would understand if it was the first film, it was very good, but this is only half a film and its plot is taken from a bunch o Rick and Morty episodes. Amazing animation, though.
I hope Yi Yi cracks the top 10 eventually
This list has changed a lot, what happened? Did they change how they measure the movies out of embarrassment that the new Spiderman was number 1?
That's exactly what happened, they had to change the rating system just to ensure Spiderman wasn't number 1 kek
Isn't this censorship?
Who gives a shit?
Spider-man and LotR shouldn't be anywhere near the list. Parasite and Schindler's List are also extremely questionable.
>Schindler's List
Why
You know why.
Why isn't Beautiful Dreamer on there?
based beautifuldreameranon
i know you're the same guy who made that beautiful dreamer thread recently
It used to be.
Filmbros don't watch cartoons
tried watching this shit and it's confusing as frick. one couldn't keep track of all these names. shinubu sakaguchi wants takahari Daisen to go to the Umugumi daiboro. Who the frick are all these buttholes? And why does the one b***h fricking fly and why does no one question this? then couldn't get what the frick was going on. just confusing for the sake of being confusing. Honestly, nothing japan touches can match Spiderverse.
This have to be bait. Nobody can genuinely be this fricking moronic.
Go to letterbox and you'll see how stupid the average person is.
>This has to be bait. Nobody can genuinely be this fricking moronic.
First time on the internet?
That review sounds like they stopped watching about 20 minutes in and over-reacted to the "Nazi" themed Cafe. Also likely didn't know what a School Cultural Festival is. Shutaro isn't a Nazi, he just thinks that military is cool, and Leopards were postwar West German tanks, not Whermarch.
Like to be honest? Yeah.
I think the voting should just be raw votes without any weighting. Then have the option to remove films based on 5 year intervals. Remove last 5 years, 10 years, 10 years, 15 years, etc. That way you get the raw votes, but then also the chance to remove recent bias.
Like if Letterbox was around when Star Wars, Wizard of Oz, etc were released they'd just dominate every list ever simply because they were so popular at the time. Anything released in the last 10 years has a huge bias.
Beautiful Dreamer sadly is held down by having an assload of 0-2 stars which is just idiots going "I don't get it" because they have under 90 IQ's. And it's not quite the visual spectacle to draw in morons too.
shit movie
>no Lawrence of Arabia
>no The Red Shoes
>no Rocco and his Brothers
>no Ben Hur
>no Wild Sttawberries
This is some gay shit...
Honestly I'm just happy to see that Everything Everywhere All at Once isn't in the top 25 anymore. It dipped to 75. Glad to see people are already starting to realize how fricking overrated it is
every new big movie now goes through this cycle of getting more 5star reviews than any previous movie ever
how the frick is harakiri that high? it's nowhere near the best movie ever made
Yeah man I do NOT get why that movie is so insanely highly regarded. It's very good, but what's the big fricking deal putting it above Rashamon, Second Sneedurai, Ran, Yojimbo, etc..? I think it's probably on par with Yojimbo or Seven and weaker than the rest
not even touching the political elements, but does Letterboxd in all honesty think a Spider-Man cartoon is better film than The Godfather?
It was number 1 before this new rating system so yes
It just came out recently and the types who are on Letterbox are the type who watch that film. Someone who watched the new Top Gun isn't likely to be a letterbox person.
The average Letterboxd user is absolutely disgusting so yes.
Why can't it be? The Godfather really isn't that great.
>The Godfather really isn't that great.
Letterboxd gaygo right here
It doesn't insist upon itself, for one
>Taxi Driver is ranked 245, will probably be gone eventually
I knew it was mostly women that used this website but wow
>women
There are some really classic films ranked low that I think are silly, but then I look at what has been changed since the revamp and they were originally ranked even lower, or not on the list at all. Letterboxd has a ways to go before claiming a hold on future film canons, even if sight and sound just shot itself in the face.
but yeah Taxi Driver was done dirty.
>There are some really classic films ranked low that I think are silly, but then I look at what has been changed since the revamp and they were originally ranked even lower, or not on the list at all. Letterboxd has a ways to go before claiming a hold on future film canons, even if sight and sound just shot itself in the face.
Sight and Sound added a bunch of letterbox trannies (no joke) when they expanded the critics list. Letterbox is home to a bunch of lunatics and radicals with no lives shouting into the void. I have no idea why some of these people get so many likes when they're clearly schizo. And I looked up some of my favorite films only to see complaints about how they "don't make sense", or are filled with "the male gaze" or transphobia, or whatever.
Unfortunately a lot of film fans are of the “activist” variety. It’s been a thing with film critics since the 60s. Now remove the professional writing skills, any awareness of film history, and a dollop of mental illness. Wallah. Current year film discussion.
>Wallah
It's voila moron
well, it’s a doggy dog world newbie
Sometimes I wonder if these frickers have actually watched all these movies. This dude doesn't seem like the type to just sit and watch a bunch Araki movies yet he's got Smiley Face on his ballot
>Sometimes I wonder if these frickers have actually watched all these movies.
No one actually watches Jeanne Dielman since it's intentionally designed to waste your time as a kind of activism to make a point.
Who care about yearly updates? In fact who cares about rankings?
This is probably the best list for people who want suggestions.
And if you want a ranking do it yourself, it's the only one you'll ever agree with.
RYM chart is better because Spider man is "only" 59 and there are more Kubrick movies
https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/film/all-time/
On RYM it is 13th
TGTBATU is worse than Once Upon A Time In the West
Used to be better. Now has a clear recency bias. Otherwise alright
What is it about Spiderverse that makes art hoe types literally shit and queef themselves in awe? The original was a good movie with unique art, but holy frick does a certain type of person overrate it and pretend it is the singular greatest shit ever.
Two of my coworkers get upset because I refuse to watch it. Both of them are morbidly obese.
You don't understand art, pretty simple.
>City of God
>La Haine
Why are these two films almost always on these types of lists?
I can guarantee that they are better than a fricking capeshit cartoon
So you didn't watch any of them? Lmao.
sneed
>couldn't resist the embarrassment and just had to reply to get the last word
Okay, boyo. Kek.
NTA but you're defending a fricking troony Black person focused cartoon as high art. You're in the same vain as all the redditors getting butthurt when Scorsese said capeshit isn't cinema.
No, I'm in the same vein as all the industry leaders who recognized the movie as art.
>industry leaders
Twitter and box office numbers doesn't decide what is high art.
What is over the garden wall
Cartoon Network miniseries. Fantastic celebration of American folklore for kids with a great old-times soundtrack and slight Halloween tone. Doesn’t belong anywhere near a movies list, but it’s quality for what it is.
>half of it is ching chong
>Spiderman lol
>LOTR
What the frick is wrong with that website
is YiYi that good? might give it a shot
Yes I think it is but it's sort of weird at the same time. It's not some Godfather-tier epic drama, the movie is a masterpiece because of how immersive it is and how many ideas the film explores without actually showing much. Very accessible and easy to watch but I can see how normies might think it's uneventful or lame
Oh that sounds amazing, thank you.
It's my favorite movie. The most realistic that I've ever seen, watching it feels like watching real people
I don't even need to look at it
>Only have seen 3 Movies
>BMI is 31
Something is fricky here.
What's so great about parasite?
It was a very decent movie. I don't understand why it's still worshiped as one of the best.
entry level so yeah that's about right
Not as good as this list.

>20 fps is an innovative leap in animation
It was a good looking movie but I mean come on man
You mean
>I claim that X-person says this in a disingenuous manner to make my moronic claim seem stronger
It's a fricking cartoon for children and teenagers. It's not fricking high art. It's a generic but well handled cartoon movie. It did what it sought after to do well. That's it.
Where do you underage unironic redditors even come from? Why are you here?
It's not so much a leap in animation as it is reaching what should have been the standard 10 fricking years ago.
Animation has been dead and uninspired for years. Spider-Man hasn't done anything new or advanced but it's changed the game by showing you can make actually good animation and it can make money.
Tell that to the japs that have done much more well animated movies that have earned a crap ton of money as well.
You're zoomer and a Black person aren't you?

>Spiderverse is innovative and a leap in animation
All I have to say to people who genuinely claim this is that they should watch more animation. Because if you seriously think that capeshit multiverseshit gagshit is a leap forward in anything, then you've got another thing coming. The only reasons I could see someone says this are 1) they are inclined to say it to prop up their own industry or 2) they treat animation as a tech demo, meaning they don't actually respect as a format of film. Cause there's more innovation and creativity in the big animation festival's short film line up than there is in this entire flick. And those films were basically made on no budget.
awful take
maybe you need to spend some time listening to artists
I listen to artists and they don't even acknowledge Spiderverses existence. It's a non-factor to actual creatives. Maybe you should spend less time listening to "artists" who are first and foremost concered with commercial success.
The animation is seriously impressive (though not better than picrel which came out in the 80s) but especially with this most recent one the story feels a tad underbaked
>villains don't get any characterization beyond exposited back stories
>ending on a huge cliffender
A good movie but not one of the top 10 ever
>a leap in animation
Here's a Saturday morning cartoon from over 20 years ago.
what point are you even trying to make
That it and many other cartoons from the past are better animated than your choppy CGI shit.
ah okay, so you're just a consoomer
Exported animation too. What's your point.
>Jap shit
Frick off

>letterboxd is so fricking lame. See this basic shit happen with every site that gets flooded with discord lgbts and zoomers, most boring losers on the planet.
Why did leftists turn out like this? It’s just normalgays being what they’ve always been or what? Actually disappointing, really haven’t felt disgust for people so thoroughly since 00s conservatives.
>See this basic shit happen with every site that gets flooded with discord lgbts and zoomers
Happened with rym, the shift was so obvious and gay, To Pimp A Butterfly being like the highest rated album of all time. Even on myanimelist, you’d think we’re in a golden age of all media if you checked these sites but it’s just no-lifes whose brains were developed by social media and their obsessive need to feel like they aren’t missing out, that they’re WITNESSING some important cultural moment. Zoomers terrified of missing out, millennials terrified of aging and falling out of touch, not being kids anymore. Amount of times I’ve seen “I’m just so thankful I got to be alive at this moment in time and culture so I could witness rap homie sell a lot and movie homie sell a lot,” so pathetic it’s hardly even human.
It just shows the importance of elitism and gatekeeping. Rather keep Cinemaphile an edgy shitposting hellhole then becoming yet another generic piece of site.
>Godfather 2 over Godfather 1
Objectively incorrect list
>Spider-verse
Lol. I’m really not interested in the opinions of communists anymore.
Fairly tame for a site where the community call themselves film buffs, and are supposedly more inclined towards the more technical aspects of filmmaking
I'm sure the numbers haven't 100% been fudged like every other aggregate in existence
is kurosawa really that good, all i've seen is rashoman and it was fine but not mind-blowing
No, but Hollywood tier films are considered good as long as it’s from Japan
He's good but not 4 films in top 20 good. He was pushed hard by old boomer directors and it stuck.
Watch Yojimbo & Sanjuro they're far more entertaining.
>You can't just have recent movies on your list. They must all be critic approved classics.
>there are no films in the last 20 years better than Parasite and Spider-Man
i don't really like asian cinema, it just doesn't click with me
I have not seen a worse list.
Voila.
>1,3,9
>all extremely average movies that leftist critics praised simply because they were aimed at black people
Good goyim.
I meant to say 10 but I'll stick with 9.
Rotten Tomatoes is the Redbox of rating sites.
Letterboxd is the Tiktok of rating sites.
MUBI is a decent mix of tryhards and kinographers.
IMDB is good because normies are less critical and highlight the positives in often well-written form.
Metacritic is dead fricking on sometimes.
Cinemaphile has never been right.

Also, I'm trans btw. Forgot to mention that.
Yi Yi is good
I care and parsed it
>Spider-Man in the top 10
>Son of the White Mare not even top 250
Shameful
their new weighted ranking system is genuinely moronic. the old list had a lot more hidden gems in it and now they've all been pushed out because of regional rankings being taken into account. so now all we get is english films and japanese films. and yeah theres the occasional french or russian flick. but regular ass anime has been pushed into the list now. really just feels like it's become homogenised with the opinions of the rest of the internet. super lame from them.
Feels like it was in response to everyone b***hing about that Brazilian movie being so highly rated. In my opinion I liked seeing it so high up as I've now got it on my watchlist and would have never known about it otherwise. Do I expect to like it? No, but I'm not so closed off and sheltered that I can't form my own opinion and try to learn something in the process.
I mainly use it to find obscure SOV shit anymore anyway
yeah actually i'm the same in regard to that brazilian one. would never have known about it as well. and thats what i really liked about the old list, finding shit i didn't know existed. even if i didn't enjoy it, i got to broaden my ideas of what cinema can be. the films around the bottom of the list were always changing and being some obscure shit that nobody had actually watched sneaking into the list and would almost certainly disappear a week later, but they were different at least. who knows, maybe the list will switch up again as they said they were going to be adjusting the rating system further. only time will tell.
Redpill me on Brazilian movies.
Millions of hues can get it, can you?
Brazilians kept spamming 5 star ratings for random movies so the top ranked movies had a lot of Brazilian shit that have zero reputation as good movies. It was awkward for new users to create an account only to find some obscure Brazilian movie ranked alongside The Godfather.
yeah and it makes it so that nobody takes any brazillian films seriously even ones that aren't heavily spammed
There are improvements but also a lot of drawbacks. A lot of the overrated shit isn't as present (EEAO, Spiderman, Brazilian movies) but now there's also a lot more normie trash like IMDB. Might be overall worse
hard agree

This is my list
Shawshank should be removed.
>Shawshank should be removed.
it's a crowd pleaser that both men and women like. This imdb rankings list is the films that have the biggest divergence between men and women. What it doesn't show are films like Godfather and Shawshank that both genders enjoy.
Yeah? I still want it removed. It's the single most-overrated movie in history.
human condition 1 is far and away the best one
is the only reason it doesnt have the highest rating is that people who got filtered by 1 not bothering to watch (and dislike) 3?
will we as a society ever evolve past thinking parasite is a masterpiece?
its too cold and too perfect to be anything more than good
Am I the only non-chud who thinks the Spiderverse movies aren't great? Don't get me wrong, both are around a 4 so not bad but definitely not top 10, not even the best animated film I've seen
across the spider-verse being #7 is such a joke lol. The whole movie was a fricking set up for the final part how is that the 7th best movie of all time. Besides occasionally looking pretty cool it was bad
didnt love Harakiri, even if its objectively pretty great, felt like it was lacking in spirituality for a film all about suicide
How would ratings be different if you couldn't rate a film until it was 12 months old?
Spiderverse is obvious recency bias
Heres my personal top 12.
I think true kino needs to be both artistic and entertaining which is why "entry level" arthouse is my jam
Winter Sleep is the slowest cinema im willing to subject myself too
Good films but very "just got into films"
Funny enough these have been my favorites for over a decade now. But youre right I havent seen that many movies by film buff standards maybe a thousand in my lifetime at the most
this.
Spider-Man's the obvious odd one out
>black spiderman, black parasite, schindler's feel bad for israelites please list, lord of the rings
horrible list
Kino:
Hara Kiri
Seven Samurai
The Shawshank Redemption
Cringe:
Come and See
12 Angry Men
The Godfather
Parasite
Spider-Man
Schindler's List
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Lord of the Rings
Havent seen the rest
is my taste based or cringe?
Any list that puts Godfather 2 above 1 can be disregarded immediately
It's better than Imdb but that doesn't mean much
Why is Le Haine that high
Too much asian shite
Philistine at best preddit at worst
>Open Image
>Japshit
>Hearty chuckle, close image
not as bad as you'd expect from fricking letterbox'd. spiderman obviously doesn't belong.
ROTK dickriding bugs me to no end, I love that movie but people give it all of the accolades because it's the "most epic" and it's the last one so they lump the entire trilogy's greatness onto this one movie. Fellowship is easily the best one and it's so often slept on in favour of Return
I've only seen
>Parasite
pretty good 8/10
>The Godfather
boring slog, 4/10 because of the music
>City of God
great 9/10
>La Haine
not bad but nothing special 6/10
>LOTR ROTK
ok this is bait
>Godfather bad
>LOTR bad
>nowhite goyslop good
kys
I said LOTR ROTK is bait, no way in hell is that movie better than FOTR.
Also Godfather is just absolute shit, I watched The Sopranos before that and I was severely disappointed because I expected something close in quality.
>LOTR ROTK is bait
Better than 90% of shit on that list
>Godfather is just absolute shit
Top fricking kek, one of the most goated films in existence
>Better than 90% of shit on that list
So? Still not better than FOTR and doesn't deserve to be on that list for that reason.
>Top fricking kek, one of the most goated films in existence
For many people, yes, but not for me.
Godfather is much better than The Sopranos.
someone explain the appeal of shawshank redemption to me
beyond being an enjoyable made-for-tv movie, because that's how i experienced it.
It's thoroughly inoffensive with a clean cut and easy to digest moral story. Not even trannies can find something to dislike about it cause the rape scenes strongly resonate with them. Does that mean it's the greatest film of all time? No. But on a list that's made up of averages it makes a lot of sense for it to be near the top.
I'm surprised they are not offended by the magic Black character
Only thing I can think of is that it's extremely rewatchable sort of like Forrest Gump
I like shitty movies
My top 20
Anyone else hate these fricking samurai chink movies? So boring and stupid
>schindler's list

I see at least : 12 Angry Men (good movie, not even remotely top 20 though), Parasite (too soon to tell), Spidermen (LMAO), just 1 Godfather movie please, High and Low (too much Kurosawa), Shawshank Redemption (overrated as frick), Schinder's List (too American), City of god (yes if you are 13 years old), Lord of the Rings (it is not even the best PJ movie). Where is Tarkovsky? Where is Bela Tarr? Where are the Italians and the French directors?

Filtering a large part of the userbase. Just read some of the reviews of pretty much any Antonioni film, especially Blow-Up.
It was honestly really funny that some Brazilians managed to almost canonize a selection of their shitty 2000s comedies and convince countless zoomers that they were on par with the greatest films ever made. We're talking "Horrible Bosses 2" tier movies they spammed with 10s to the point of eclipsing of the rest of cinema.
I'm going to watch A Dog's Will just to see if I can understand what millions of hues do
