The exact same thing happens with Marge's friend Ruth Powers from that Thelma and Louise parody episode.
She turns up in loads of background shots in subsequent seasons but never gets any kind of dedicated storyline again.
Allison had one line (by a regular cast member) in "Lard of the Dance" where she complimented the new girl 's (Lisa Kudrow's) purse or something. Supposedly she also spoke in the dance recital when Lisa went to Little Vickie's school, but all the kid's were dressed like astronauts or Martians, so it's hard to tell who was who.
Ruth had a significant role encouraging Marge to body build and take steroids in the episode where Marge raped Homer.
Ruth even shows up in the background during flashbacks from the time period before she even moved to springfield
