The older sketches had that "im on the weird side of youtube" vibe that made them much better, very unexpected laughs. Also they seemed much more unhinged and edgy. You could tell Adult Swim was gagging them and as result Sam went full alt-right sperg with "Jews rock" and "throw out hate".
Prodigal Son, Smocaine, and Ideas Man are so fricking out there for their time, I revisited them some time ago and they are still funny.
