why? just make a spin bot or at least a flipper.

Presumably there's a quota on how many spinners and flippers you're allowed per season to keep things interesting.

there is a approval process to get onto the show.

Even better than that, the next year they raised the height of the wall and he competed again, blendo sent shrapnel into the walls so hard that he was asked to pull out and get co-championship a second time.
Also he wanted the exterior to spin at 10,000rpm originally, but all his engineer friends told him that if he could spin it that fast the air around blendo would catch on fire. So he settled for a larger design that only spun at 500rpm.

      Anonymous

The Blendo meme is so moronic. It was good when in the extremely early days of 1995-1996 they allowed a bot to spin up before the match started, and everyone was armored in 1mm thick mild steel. When Blendo appeared on the Comedy Central Battlebots it was extremely dated and terrible.

So this is the power of the Blendo...

He wanted it to spin at 30k rpm but their physicist friend said it would melt the steel just from the air friction. It’s in the video higher up in the thread with the sister rapist.

Not them but it wouldn't surprise me one bit. If you check out his YouTube videos you pick up on his personality defects. Firstly he clearly has some level of OCD by the invisible flecks of dust he constantly has to wipe from his desk. He has tools and items meticulously organized and there are some vids of him clearly annoyed by the fact something isn't where it's supposed to be. Finally if you watch the Mythbusters where they do the electrocution prank on him it's very telling. Tory tests it first and says he thinks it's a bad idea because the shock is way more than expected, you can see how uncomfortable he is when they go through with the prank. Adam keeps it together for the most part but you see his mask slip and it's clear he is furious about the situation. So, OCD+control issues+underlying rage = Probable in regards to the Adam Savage raping myth

Don't watch any videos where he talks or read any of his social media posts. As soon as mythbusters ended he cranked his subtle lefty shit to 11.
He's at the level where he will self correct "fireman" into "fireperson" in a video about his crash test dummy. If I remember right he was helping Bill nye with the sex junk Netflix series.

          Anonymous

In a video about unfilmable ideas for the show Adam says he always wanted to film the "story" sessions they'd have where the entire team would sit around and just shoot the shit and come up with episodes. Stuff like spitballing segments, the overall presentation, random thoughts on the myth, who they needed to talk to to get things done etc.
The funny part is he also says he's why they never did, because when they tried he clammed up and was too worried and filtered himself. Straight up admits during those sessions he no doubt made a lot of off color comments, dark jokes and just generally said "career ending" shit so with cameras rolling it just stopped all his productivity kek
It's like he over-corrected from being horrified about losing everything.

2015 season was suddenly announced at short notice to a bunch of veterans so not everyone had the ability to come up with something in such short time. Lisa's bot there is based on a really old Battlekit Jim Smentowski of Nightmare used to sell (he might still sell them idk). And by old I really do mean very old, those kits have ancient tech in them.

Honestly with the power of those spinning hammers, it wasn't going to make a difference either way. The bot was just made to look interesting and to lose in a way that would make good tv rather than to be effective.

I guess so. But at least with bots like Rusty, you can tell that the builder/driver doesn't expect it to get far. These chucklefricks were so confident, even though it was clear they were only brought on because "girl power!"

There was that measles outbreak in California a while back and vaccinated people laid all the blame on unvaccinated people without stopping to think about why their vaccine didn't protect them.

      >measles
Measles virus doesn't change every few months. So we can make a vaccine against it. Measles doesn't change.

A vaccine is only good if the virus does not change or mutate quickly. If a virus does mutate, then the previous vaccine doesn't work. The reason why making vaccines against coronaviruses is a bad idea is because coronaviruses are known mutate very quickly. It's why we can't vaccinate against the common cold virus. It mutates every year. And the recent coronaviruses mutate every few months. So it's pointless.

If you're referring to the outbreak around Santa Cruz from like five or six years back I can help out. They were right to blame anti-vaxxers, the CA Central Coast is full of old hippy 'if it's natural it's good' types, since someone from the area who was unvaccinated brought measles back from another country.

The pain in the ass of is that people being unvaccinated and exposed to measles makes life harder for everyone else, as now there are more people who need treatment, special attention, and sick leave. The real frustrating part is since there's a vaccine whose side effects are well known (the measles vaccine has been in circulation for over something like 40 years), people getting sick from measles is effectively voluntary if they're not vaccinated. The other thing is that vaccines are effective, but they're very rarely 100% effective at stopping disease. The measles vaccine if applied properly makes about 96-97% of people immune to measles, but that's the kicker - even if a person is vaccinated, they're still a small but real chance they'll also get sick. Vaccination is a statistics game and the more people who use it, the more effective it is. With enough population buy in and an effective enough vaccine, diseases can even be eradicated. Smallpox is the most notable example, and measles was eradicated in the US for several years.

The general attitude is that people who refuse vaccines are being dangerously selfish by refusing the vaccine, by willing putting people around them at risk for a disease that's usually preventable. It doesn't help most anti-vaxxers are rabid political extremists, which is not an endearing trait. The whole shitshow with Covid just ramped existing tensions up to 11.

Stop lumping all vacc1nes together. Real vacc1nes were made with extensive studies, research, testing, and tweaking until they got it right. What happened in the last 3 years was the exact opposite of that.
And now they are finally admitting they don't actually work as originally advertised. Not to mention we are finally getting hard data about potential issues.

Only commies use that term. No one who's concern about the harms caused by covid injections makes any claims with reference to "long vaccine". The closest is that "long covid" (another commie conspiracy theory) is actually just someone whose """"vaccine"""" didn't work, they got covid, and then they got """"vaccine"""" injury symptoms later.

do most vaccines even prevent spread? or are they just preventing symptoms that then cause spread.

      Anonymous

That would vary. Sometimes it can stop the virus spreading (it can't get a foothold in your system to replicate and then have you pass it on), other times you won't have symptoms but it grows enough (or is mutated enough) for you to be able to spread it. Vaccines aren't perfect, they do not give a 100% immunity in every single person who gets it. It just helps your shitty as body kill the virus before it's a problem.

That's not what a spinner means. It's a jargon term within a specific domain. Casually, you can can anything with a main spinning component a spinner. In the context of battling robots, though, a "spinner" has a set definition, restricted to those bots whose main body top-section spins horizontally around, parallel to the ground. Please don't pretend to be informing me of anything, I know more than you.

                Anonymous

what? vertical spinners exist moron-kun, and have always been named as such, and "bots whose main body top-section spins horizontally around" is most definitely not the main definition of a spinner, otherwise bots like tombstone wouldn't be even considered a spinner. you're so fricking stupid its unreal.

spinner is a general term for any spinning kinetic energy weapon. people use the terms "horizontal spinner", "vertical spinner", "drum spinner", "shell spinner", "ring spinner" etc and always have done. sorry you're moronic.

I remember this! They put the troony bot against an obvious sucker for an easy win, I believe his name was rusty, literally make with a popcorn bowl and only a screwdriver for a weapon

      AND RUSTY WON
Absolute legend, you will never be forgotten RUSTY

Rusty was incredibly based. Clunky as hell but shockingly durable.

          >shocking
really? couldn't you essentially make one of these indestructible and immovable by just making them heavy and thick enough?

There's a weight limit you have to stay under.

In the britbong version there were house bots that were ultra-heavyweights that were over the weight limit, essentially as stage hazards, though they still got murdered on occassion.

I always wished Robot Wars would do a crossover with picrel where teams have to build a fighting bot using junk and then compete in challenges and a head to head fight at the end.

Junkyard wars was kino. That and the first season of that simulated apocalypse survival show (forgot the name) were peak TV as a kid.

    >build a robot with a magnet on a stick that lifts the othor robot up
seems pretty easy to beat tbh

remember s1 uk robot wars there was a kid literally entered an rc car inside a paper mache ball painted green to look like a brussel sprout

    How do drones do nowadays?

I read the rules for making a robot, and as you might expect, it's just as autistically locked down as the people making these robots to begin with, so I'm guessing flying robots aren't even allowed.

You can use high powered shit in this show, right? Things like lasers or fire and whatnot? Why are all the robots kinetic energy based?
