You're right, but they're saving the best for last. If this post ends in repeating numbers, then my dream cast (pun intended) of Keanu Reeves as Shadow will become true.
>fricking turd that was the first one
Not saying Sonic is high art or anything but it is passable(mostly because of Carrey). I put it a couple rungs above the Mario film which was just bland.
i don't know how people would expect a film about a ring collecting super speed hedgehog would be great art, but it wasn't the worst film i watched that year and if i had a kid to look after i would put on that movie for them. it isn't terrible, just an average meaningless branded movie
the second one was even worse and that bridezilla moment really killed the franchise. Why couldn't they just do an animated film like mario? Instead we got a gay soap drama.
Kids and Boomers love Sonic and Muttmericans are indeed known of loving and defending sloppiest of goyslop in droves see the MCU, The Mario or FNAF movie, Star Wars, any military propaganda and other forms of blockbusters.
Sonic still has a huge autistic loyal fandom after like 20 years of consistently dogshit vidya games, and you're surprised a decent, competent movie got sequels?
I honestly think Generations and Frontiers were good. Hell, I even think 06 is an underrated pleb-filter kino. But Shadow's spin-off game is garbage, it's the most cynical and soulless cash-grab game ever made.
Man, I really hope this movie doesn't have another Madea wedding to ruin the momentum like the sequel did.
I'm just really hoping that that black family is out of the equation at this point so we can actually have some Sonic x Shadow Kino, and not any more tyler perry shit .
The black family ruined Sonic 2. Like, I get ESG scores, diversity checkboxes and all that, but holy shit, someone literally thought kids wanted to see le wacky Black person family wedding side plot instead of Sonic and tails.
I dont think it ruined it cause I thought those scenes were funny but I understand and relate to the desire of an all cgi film like I want that with transformers and they keep making it about moronic people. Sorry bro I relate.
The Black folk ruined it. If I want to see a Madea wedding, I'll go see a madea film. That subplot was unnecessary and poorly thought out. A fat black lady being loud may be funny to a 5 year old, but for kids who just wanted to see Sonic and Tails go on adventures, this movie was a complete let down.
The ending was Kino, as a total calling to Sonic heroes, but at that point, the damage was done.
This, but unironically. I love the idea of Sonic having a human father figure, but I hate how these live-action Sonic films aren't set on a version of Earth where humans and anthros have lived together with each other all along (like in the games - and yes, Sonic lives on Earth in the original Japanese version of the games because Mobius is an American creation). Like, I don't even mind that these films aren't 2D/3D animated films because we haven't gotten any live-action Sonic films before 2020 so these live-action Sonic films are bringing something new to the table aesthetically, but not having humans and anthros co-existing right from the start is the biggest flaw of these live-action Sonic films.
yeah what the frick was up with that shit. luckily can just fast forward and get back to robotnik/sonic/knuckles/tails kino
but of course i'tll be in the third one sucking up another ten to fifteen minutes time maybe this time with a speech from strong independent fat ugly smelly subhuman queen
I've heard the rumours of Hayden voicing Shadow and even though I genuinely love the prequels and Hayden, I don't want Hayden to voice Shadow. I want Keanu Reeves to voice Shadow. And yes, I know that's a meme casting choice so you can laugh at it all you want.
Based Hayden should get more work.
You're right, Based Hayden should get more work and if he voices Shadow, it would connect the Star Wars franchise and the Sonic franchise even more than before.
I guess it does. And Hayden never shitted on us Star Wars fans who rightfully hate Disney's counterfeit version of Star Wars, which makes him based in my book.

>jim carrey confirmed back
Source? I'm glad Jim Carrey is back if you're telling the truth.
For those that don't remember, Jim Carrey said he would only come out of retirement for Sonic 3 if they let him play a FAT Egghead.
Plus they've got a good excuse with how S2 ended. >critically injured after battle >rescued by agent stone and hidden away in secret bunker >can't do anything but lay around and eat and drink >gets fat
Based, I completely agree with you. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is my most favourite Sonic game of all time. Happy 30th anniversary to the homie Knuckles and Sonic 3.
During 2020 lockdowns I spent a full week completing a unfulfilled childhood goal of getting a A rank on every single mission in Sonic Adventure 2 so I could unlock the secret 3D Greenhill stage. I spent every day getting hammered. I'd start drinking and gaming at noon and go till 10. Finally, all I had left to do was the Chao garden emblems. Luckily there was an exploit for quickly leveling up your Chaos or else that would've taken me another 12 hours of farming levels for items. So I finally unlocked Greenhill zone, and it's a stage that has absolutely nothing in it that lasts about 45 seconds and you get no rank for beating it. It felt like the ultimate slap in the face to someone hard-core and dedicated enough to get an A rank on every single mission. They could've at least let us play as Metal Sonic or Super Sonic as a playable character in Sonic/Shadows missions or something
Remember when journos called the fans entitled crybabies when they dared to complain about that shitty nightmare-fuel redesign? And then they had to eat shit once it was clear that listening to the fans made the movie a success?
No what happened was that people were surprised that the staff actually listened to the fans instead of just writing them all off as toxic incels and going with the original abortion, like anyone else at that time was doing.
The journalists were right. Because of listening to the fans, the CGI studio had to do crunch to finish the movie. The studio then closed down after the movie came out.
Why do studios listen their audience? They will go see your movies anyway so why bother?
>Why do studios listen their audience? They will go see your movies anyway so why bother?
This is the exact reasoning those execs were operating on and it's what drove that studio to the ground. Had they taken their bullshit bandages off somewhere during production, none of that would have happened. Why is the audience's fault that they couldn't enforce quality control for a quick buck?
Thanks to that change, Paramount doesn't have to rely on Transformers alone to pay back their enourmous debt.
>Because of listening to the fans, the CGI studio had to do crunch to finish the movie. The studio then closed down after the movie came out
It wouldn't have happened if the director Jeff Fowler didn't go full moron with the original design, the worst part about this is that Fowler is a Sonicgay and was involved with the series long before becoming a movie director yet he didn't give a frick. At least Illumination/Nintendo learned from this frickup without having to crunch by getting the designs of Mario characters right from the get-go.
The first movie was made by Sony, which is a woke moronic company that mandated black people in the cast. Paramount had to fix the movie when they bought it.
>There is an alternate reality where the uncanny design was kept, causing the movie to flop and the franchise to die in its infancy
Good to know our timeline isn't the worst one out there.
To this day I still wonder if this was a New Coke style bait-and-switch, where they secretly already had the good Sonic model ready to go but presented us with the ugly Sonic design to get everyone talking about the movie.
And yes, I know that Coca-Cola denies that they did that on purpose, but there are many who still believe it, and other companies could have learned from that.
>To this day I still wonder if this was a New Coke style bait-and-switch
It wasn't, the redesign process managed to bankrupt the company responsible for CGI and the animators lost their jobs as a result. Tim Miller, who's a close associate with the director (both worked on the 1st movie and Shadow The Hedgehog's CG cutscenes) has elaborated on the controversy behind Sonic's design. https://youtu.be/p_5JdYo7gN4?s >2:14
Really, Amy is the weakest link in the SA2 cast. She does like, 3 things of note in the entire game, all of which can easily be given to another character (and it’ll probably be the niece). Rouge on the other hand is a bit more difficult to write out, but not impossible. Unless she shows up in the Knuckles series I doubt she’ll be in the film.
Amy helped Shadow remember what Maria's dying wish REALLY was, meaning she indirectly had the most significant role in SA2 by setting Shadow onto his path of redemption.
And despite that, they can still easily give that role to the niece.
Which they won't. Or at least hopefully not anyway.

Perfect blend of melodrama, anime-tropes, schlock and fun. Also the pinnacle of 3d Sonic gameplay that can apparently never be surpassed.

Back in 2002 the Sonic gameplay was great, but that's 1/3 of the gameplay and the rest was painfully bad. And unlike SA1, you had to play the other characters to get to the next Sonic stage

it was unapologetically sincere. Such a bizarre concept and premise was played completely straight and the SOUL just poured out of it. Nowadays everything is coated in 1000 layers of irony and nothing is told with a straight face

You're right. I'm sick of the age of endless cynical irony we live in. I just want a return to sincerity. Also, Shadow should not have been brought back to life after SA2 and I say this as a Shadow fan.

There were multiple egyptian desert levels in Sonic Adventure 2
You're right and Amy is fought in an Egypt-themed stage (probably Egypt itself) called Flying Carpet Zone (if I remember correctly) in Sonic The Fighters.
Sonic Frontiers was kind of shit but the boss fights and accompanying music was absolutely pure early 2000s kino

>What made SA2 so special?
The writing was a big part of it. The writer poured weaponized autism into the story and how he wrote the characters. He'd think about the dialogue as he drove home from work and didn't just disconnect himself from it when he left the office. He went so far as to say he has a deeper connection to Shadow than he does his own family. The guy cared and wanted to make a story that he would have liked, first and foremost, not what the suits would like. When anons said the story was anime cheese "played completely straight", that was why. Dreamcast Sonic is anime
This is also why the stories for Sonic, for such a long time, have been total shit because they don't hire passionate autists to write it anymore. Worse yet, they get western writers now, for over a decade, who are as disconnected from otaku culture as possible. Sonic doesn't bleed cool delinquent edge anymore. Amy isn't allowed to act like Amy and chase Sonic anymore. Rouge is just a generic woman character without her sex appeal. They removed all the stuff Japanese gamers and weebs like and replaced it with what westerners tolerate and understand. And until the stories move back into Japanese autist hands again, it won't get better
Mario fans got a little taste of how it feels when westerners get involved, when Seth Rogen and his crew were in charge of the characters personalities and stories in the Mario movie. What they did to Mario and Peach was noticed immediately and it is going to get way worse for them too
>tfw got sonic adventure 2 battle on gamecube for Christmas in 2002 >you would wake up early the morning before everyone else on school days just so you play it

I will also probably unironically onions face if they play any SA2 tracks in the film, but let's face it, they won't. There will only be generic dogshit Black person rap songs in the film's soundtrack.
https://www.ign.com/articles/sonic-the-hedgehog-3-adds-krysten-ritter-cristo-fernndez-alyla-browne-and-more
Guessing it is Alyla Browne. Despite the name she is white.
>You underestimate my power, Sonic! >Where is Maria? Is she safe? Is she alright? >Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, DOCTOR. >I don’t like space.
A lot of Shadow's lyrics had to do with how conflicted he feels. Even in his theme, "Throw It All Away", it comments on how, even if he is immortal, it doesn't matter and he would rather throw it all away because the life itself is meaningless.
In Rhythm and Balance, the White Jungle stage where you have to save Rouge before the island explodes, the song asks over and over if Shadow is scared, once again that if he fails, he will lose yet another person close to him.
In the Supernatural, Final Chase's stage, the song starts asking if Shadow is even the Ultimate Lifeform to begin with as he gets closer to Maria's "dream."
The Biolizard of course, is unironically what I'd call Shadow's swan song. "Supporting Me" sounds just like the title, Shadow has finally given up revenge and learned that he wants to protect the world but he doesn't really know how to do this. He will do everything in his power, knowing that Maria is supporting him in order to fulfill her last wish, even if it means his untimely end, which the song references at the end of the song as well.
And of course, Live and Learn. Pretty explanatory, but it's learning to live with your mistakes and to keep moving in life even if all seems lost.
Shadow's story was unironically a great lead up from a broken individual lead on by hatred to one of redemption, giving his life to the ones he tried to destroy in the first place. We really won't have kino like this again, but at least its here.
Does anyone other than me have their own Sonic-related headcanons? In one of my Sonic-related headcanons, Vanilla had a one-night stand with Eggman (at least in the games) and that's how Cream was born. Also, Cream should have TWO EYELASHES on both of her eyes. And because Paramount are homosexuals, they probably won't make Eggman Cream's father. That's why I think Cream's father in Sonic 3 should be Shadow. I don't know why I love the idea of Eggman (and Shadow, to a lesser extent) being Cream's father so much.
>Shadow actually enjoys Cream's company >Sonic is kinda a dick sometime >Everyone can turn Super Saiyen, not just hedgehog >Eggman and Robotnik are counterpart from 2 timelines. Eggman can be dangerous but is mostly goofy, Robotnik is just a psycho. Think of Silve Age Joker / Modern Society Clown. >Rouge and Shadow are not making love, they FRICK >Knuckles is not a drooling moron, he's actually wise >Shadow is not as fast as Sonic and not as strong as Knuckles, but close to both
is not a drooling moron, he's actually wise
I think the same thing. I don't think he's straight up stupid. He's just spent his whole life alone on a floating island. He's not and idiot, he's just naive. Hell, he hasn't spoken to another person/echidna in over a decade and has no form of communication with the outside world. He can be smart/wise, but his naivety gets taken advantage of.
I grew up with the Archie Sonic (and Archie Knuckles) comics and I want Julie-Su to show up again as Knux's main b***h with Rouge being his side b***h. But Julie-Su won't ever appear again because of Ken Penders's legal bullshit. Frick Ken Penders.
>I grew up with the Archie Sonic (and Archie Knuckles) comics
twn develop a 3D Archie movie, will they?

Shit I was excited but now I’m worried. A re-recording by crush 40 would be FINE I guess but frick imagine if they get some shitty rapper to cover it or something. Fricking monkeys paw is already uncurling
Yeah, I'm a little worried too. A re-recording wouldn't even make sense because you can't improve perfection, but I'd still prefer that to a Black person remake.
They got to get rid of the bio lizard though. It’s the one legitimate gripe from a pretty kino SA2 story. It comes out of nowhere and is a dumb boss.
IMO best solution will be have some evolved form of metal sonic be the final villain. He will have no qualms with wiping out all of humanity, and is the only really recognizable villain left. He can do his lizard form from Heroes, fuse with the space colony ark, and is what sonic/shadow team up to fight at the end
Also this will for sure be carreys last movie. Follow the SA2 plot where he ends the movie setting aside his rivalry with sonic for the greater good. If done correctly this movie can be pure kino
>It comes out of nowhere and is a dumb boss.
Filtered. The Biolizard makes sense, it just isn't explained outright. The point of Project Shadow was for the government to find ultimate power and immortality. Lizards are known for being able to regrow their tails if it's cut off, so was one avenue for exploring immortality.
It also just gives us a big monster to fight to amp up the spectacle, and removes some of the blame for the whole ordeal from Shadow as now the Biolizard is the villain and Shadow can have his hero turn.
The Biolizard does get setup in a scene earlier in the story. The movie shouldn't waste time setting up another real villain. The focus at the end should be on Shadow's redemption, and a last minute Metal Sonic fanservice or something would be stealing thunder from that. They just need a big monster to beat up.
It's listed when Rouge gives her lore dump on Shadow in the Canon's Core on the Ark. She lists that Shadow might not be the original Shadow. The Biolizard is also straight out shown in the scene on the monitors behind Rouge. Pretty cool stuff to go back and realize that this crazy melodramatic plot about hedgehogs is surprisingly coherent.
>Not the original shadow
Project Shadow was for finding ultimate power and immorality, so there were a few revisions, the Biolizard being the first, Shadow presumably being the second. After the Biolizard was deemed unstable and probably impractical seeing as how it's a giant fricking lizard, it was stored away on The Ark. It was later released through Gerald's revenge plan. So Shadow is basically the 2nd revision made with the help of aliens...
Sonic bros lore dump me on Shadows origin story. Does he come from Sonic’s world or is he man made ?
>lore dump me on Shadows origin story.
...so about those aliens... lol. That was retcon from Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), but the aliens come back in that new Generations trailer, so who knows.
Anyway, >Does he come from Sonic’s world or is he man made ?
In the games, there is no 'Sonic's world.' It's all just Earth. In the 90's in the US it was changed to the whole 'other world' thing, but in the official canon and the JP games sense the start, it's just normal earth but with loops.
Shadow was man-made by the government and Eggman's grandfather. The government wanted to find ultimate power and find immortality. Eggman's grandfather wants immortality to save his granddaughter who has space AIDS. They tried with the giant lizard, as lizards can regenerate body parts, so it was at least an avenue to try, but then the aliens came down and were like 'what if you tried the Chaos' Emeralds?' This ties into the Chaos Emeralds being from another planet as seen in Frontiers recently.
Anyway, with the new direction being less lizard and more emerald, it's assumed (and hinted at in recent lore) that Eggman's grandfather finds the mural of Super Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds from Sonic 3 & Knuckles and decides to base his 2nd take on the immorality off the that. That's why Shadow's quills stand up like Super Sonic and why he defaults to Chaos Emerald powers.
That's the set-up, rest in shown in game.

Not in the games. The games are still 100% on Earth. However a recent 'retcon' would be that the Chaos Emeralds specifically are from another planet. This was dumped in Frontiers, but it does tie back to Shadow (2005), but I wonder if that's just coincidence rather than actual planning.
The movies decided to go with the 'other world' idea from the earlier western cartoons, probably because it would make more sense to general audiences over the 'yeah, there's just blue talking hedgehogs on Earth'

Yeah, a lot of the cartoons had him as an alien. Again, it's just easier for a casual audience member to understand because you're right >some of the games the environments don’t look like they are from earth
Yep, it's kind hard for people that aren't neck deep into this shit to reconcile, but in the games, it is Earth and all of Sonic's friends are just creatures that live on Earth, except for Shadow who was man-made in a lab

Something about creating a prototype of the Ultimate Lifeform. I don't remember, the last time I played SA2 was literally over 20 years ago.
This is from a cutscene in the dark side story. It's pretty fleshed out.
He is made to be the ultimate lifeform on a space station orbiting earth by using evil alien DNA and the chaos emeralds. His creator is Dr Eggman's grandfather.

Because hedgehogs are clearly the apex of biological design stupid! Jokes aside its just so Sonic has a dark doppelganger rival and has no reason for him to be hedgehog. Thanks anons. It’s kinda stupid though that they later retcon that
When the old games were made there was no "Sonic's world", Sonic and friends had always lived on "not-Earth" alongside humans. So the fact that Shadow was a genetically engineered anthropomorphic hedgehog wasn't that weird because talking animals were already normal.

You are both correct and I love how the live-action Sonic films show Knuckles as how he originally was, which was as a wise person who is simply very naive because of his isolation on the floating island he lives on.
In SA2, Shadow is man-made. The government was researching immortality and asked the bio engineer Dr.Gerald, to help them achieve it. He originally refused, but seeing that his granddaughter was slowly dying from a terminal sickness, he agreed to the project. While he did as asked by the government, secretly he was only really going along with it in the hopes that his discovery could help his ill grandchild. Two creations were made during his experimentations: the bio-lizard and Shadow. Shadow was raised with Maria and he became very fond and protective of her
Eventually the feds decided the project was too dangerous, or too difficult to keep secret, so they went Waco on everyone. They killed Maria and executed Dr.Gerald. Shadow was traumatized by the event and misremembered what Maria asked of him before she died. He attempts to kill everyone on Earth in a doomsday plan Dr.Gerald set in motion, until Amy brought out Maria's actual request in Shadow's repressed memory, which was to help humanity.
Shadow dies redirecting the falling space station away from Earth

>Everything after SA2 with Shadow, I don't care about. Aliens came in, clones, Bejita, who knows. It was bad and stayed bad
Based, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I always love the original version of Shadow from SA2 no matter what. Shadow should not have been brought back to life after SA2 because it cheapened the impact of his sacrifice at the end of SA2 and turned him from someone who was orignally just a broken man saddened by the loss of his only friend in SA2 into an edgy parody of himself in pretty much all of his future appearances and from what I understand, the original plan for Shadow was to NOT bring him back to life after SA2. But because Shadow became so immensely popular in SA2 and because there was such a huge demand to bring him back after SA2, he was brought back to life. This is just another case of fans (or so-called 'fans') getting in the way of artistic integrity and ruining the original vision that Sonic Team had for Shadow. I genuinely believe that Sonic Team may have feared that Shadow would have become more popular than Sonic himself if Shadow was not brought back to life after SA2. When Shadow was brought back to life after SA2, he went from a memorable character to a mediocre character (I haven't played 06 by the way and I have no intention of doing so). As far as I'm concerned, we the fans get to decide whatever is canon and I say that it is canon that Shadow sacrificed his life at the end of SA2 to fulfill his promise to Maria and Shadow has now reunited with Maria in Heaven.

>from what I understand, the original plan for Shadow was to NOT bring him back to life after SA2. But because Shadow became so immensely popular in SA2 and because there was such a huge demand to bring him back after SA2, he was brought back to life.
That's exactly what happened. Iizuka himself in live interviews over the years, in front of a crowd too so there can be no debate, has confirmed this was the case. Shadow was extremely popular and Sonic fans loved him. Sega suits noticed this, so to capitalize on his popularity in the hopes of selling more games, they had him brought back to life during the making of Sonic Heroes. Originally, he was not meant to be in any of the teams, but he was shoehorned in and they had to work around it
>They got to get rid of the bio lizard though. It’s the one legitimate gripe from a pretty kino SA2 story.
Stopped reading there. Biolizard is kino and MUST be in Sonic 3.
What's even more kino about What I'm Made Of is that it can be interpreted as being sung from Neo Metal Sonic's point of view. Also, Neo Metal Sonic sounded kino as frick in Sonic Heroes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKoDdBN5uwY
Nah man, it was. It was a cynical attempt to cash in on Shadow's popularity, even though bringing him back to life ruined the impact of him sacrificing himself to save Earth at the end of SA2. The real Shadow died permanently at the end of SA2 and was reunited with Maria.
>Shadow spinoff wasn't that bad.
Agreed. That game is surprisingly solid. Everyone just looks at it as the 'edgy' game, but that made sense at the time. Sonic was on the backfoot from the Dreamcast going down and Heroes being a production/reception shitshow, so why not try following the most popular character in the series at that point isntead? The guns added an interesting tweak to gameplay and functioned pretty well. Also, plenty of games at that time had the 'edgy' aesthetic, and it's not surprising that Izuka said he played Jak 2 just before working on Shadow. The game also has noticeably more polish and greater variety/scope than Heroes. Stack on how almost every Sonic game was getting shit on at the time regardless of quality, and everyone just jumped on hating Shadow and assumed it was terrible without ever actually playing it.
Not the best game ever, but the whole 'Sonic has a gun?!?!' shit is so stupid. Sonic never gets a gun and no human is killed in the game, even by Shadow. Hell, it's not even a 'Sonic' game, it's supposed to be a spin-off 'Shadow' game. Frickin Luigi's Mansion is a Mario game where you can't jump, why the hell does every Sonic Team game need to be another 'Sonic runs to the right' experience?
That was a lot to write, but damn it, it's rant I've had for like a decade, so whatever.
Shadow's game isn't bad for any of the reasons you mentioned. I assume it's because we're on Cinemaphile and you probably don't play a lot of games (I hope), but Shadow is a bad game because the gameplay is trash. Just because he's wearing jet shoes doesn't mean the game should control like you're Bambi on ice. And the level design is garbage in almost every case.
>I assume it's because we're on Cinemaphile and you probably don't play a lot of games (I hope), but Shadow is a bad game because the gameplay is trash. >your opinion is invalidated because I probably play more games than you and the game is bad because it's bad! I can't get the controls and the levels are bad!
lol
Yes, your opinion is invalidated because you don't know any better. It's like if someone who has only ever watched Disney Star Wars and never the originals or prequels or almost any other movie or show in general comes here and starts saying Book of Boba Fett is actually a great show that is unfairly maligned. You would be right to dismiss their opinion.
If they do Super Shadow, I hope they have his fur turn white like in SA2. With Sonic going from blue to yellow and Shadow going from black to white, it felt like hedgehogs' colors inverted when they go Super, which I thought was a cool idea. (This would mean Amy would go from pink to green if she ever went super.)
But disappointingly, when Sonic 06 came out, and we had Shadow AND Silver both go super, Sega just made them turn yellow too, and it's been like that since.
shadow sucks. hes only fun to play as in sa2 where hes a sonic clone. his game is garbage, hes never fun to play as in any other game just like any character other than sonic, or characters that essentially behave exactly the same as sonic. his personality sucks and anything involving him or anything around him is boring and moronic. hoping the movie will make him actually interesting to watch for once.
Only really Sonic Adventure. Part of me wonder if they're gonna try to shoehorn Adventure 1 stuff into this. Like replacing Biolizard with Perfect Chaos or something.
I made a post like this 2 years ago about how I believed that Sonic 3 is going to combine elements of SA1 with SA2 (like replacing Biolizard with Perfect Chaos, for example) and I'm glad to see other people think this too. I think the first 2 live-action Sonic films represent the Genesis era, while the third live-action Sonic film will represent the Dreamcast era.
If a bunch of internet morons like us can get a movie studio to change the way a character looks there’s no way we can’t get them to put the song in the climax RIGHT!?
Shadow's game was bad because it soiled his public image and irreversibly ruined him. The damage was so critical, there was no coming back from it. In SA2, Shadow was misled, but he wasn't a malevolent character by nature. He spent all his time with Maria, his character was kind, but he was hurt by his experiences and was acting on what he thought Maria wanted. It was very tragic. And when Shadow realized what he was doing was wrong, he immediately did a 180 heel turn and went to correct his mistake, dying in the process
Post the Shadow the Hedgehog game, Shadow increasingly acted more and more like a huge butthole. He had no reason to act that way, it wasn't in his character. It is like Sega decided they wanted a dickhead antagonistic hedgehog character that was deliberately mean, but was too lazy to think up a new one, so they just made Shadow into it instead
Everything Shadow-related post-SA2 is not canon in my opinion, see this post of mine:
Sonic = Goku
Tails = Gohan
Knuckles = Piccolo
Silver = Trunks
Shadow = Vegeta

I completely agree with you, that's why I'm saying they'll probably frick up and put Live And Learn in the trailer instead of saving it for the climax of the film.
I think we can be cautiously optimistic that they'll use a crush 40 song in the climax even if only an orchestral version
The first 2 films were jammed full of subtle and overt fan service. They know their audience.
I wouldn't be surprised, they did the same thing with Sonic 2's teaser that featured Emerald Hill Zone and they didn't use it in the movie.
Regardless it's definitely a wasted potential if they don't utilize any of the soundtracks from the video games especially Live and Learn, I mean Illumination went all out with the soundtrack in Super Mario and people loved it so there's no reason to not play it.
I think the director doesn't want to blow his load with fanservice and rather maintained the films to stand out on their own, which is kinda like the opposite of what Mario turned out to be.
You could replace Movienic with any CG creature and it would change nothing in the first movie. The second tries to grab more from the games, but little
They're a little 'woke' if you're reaching into the number of black people in the movies, but honestly, there's very little in the way of CURRENT YEAR bs. A few offhanded lines that only /misc/ would really pick-up on, and even then it's more /misc/ getting upset about every little thing.
They're just fun kids movies. Not masterpieces and they don't really elevate outside of 'family friendly kids movie' but they're harmless. The 2nd movie does have an obnoxious black wedding that goes on for too long, but if you're a hardcore enough Sonic fan, then the offhanded references to G.U.N are enough to slog through it to get back to the pretty well done Sonic adventures.

Yeah, what a weird version to adapt. I thought they were going for SA2 Shadow stuff in this movie, but I guess they made a vow, so THEIR MOTHER WILL BE FOUND
>I have to wait until December
Bullshit
You're right, but they're saving the best for last. If this post ends in repeating numbers, then my dream cast (pun intended) of Keanu Reeves as Shadow will become true.
I really dont get how they milked 2 more movies after that fricking turd that was the first one
Gay
I think you’re overstating it a little.
>fricking turd that was the first one
Not saying Sonic is high art or anything but it is passable(mostly because of Carrey). I put it a couple rungs above the Mario film which was just bland.
the games are even worse.
i don't know how people would expect a film about a ring collecting super speed hedgehog would be great art, but it wasn't the worst film i watched that year and if i had a kid to look after i would put on that movie for them. it isn't terrible, just an average meaningless branded movie
Autismos flock to Sonic like moths to light. Look at this thread for proof
Sonic autist here, can confirm. Us Sonic fans are the most autistic fanbase of all time by far.
the second one was even worse and that bridezilla moment really killed the franchise. Why couldn't they just do an animated film like mario? Instead we got a gay soap drama.
>that bridezilla moment
What the frick were they thinking with that scene? I swear it was like 15 minutes.
They're both fine.
What was weird is how the second one seemed to have cheaper backdrops in parts like they lost money or something.
Kids and Boomers love Sonic and Muttmericans are indeed known of loving and defending sloppiest of goyslop in droves see the MCU, The Mario or FNAF movie, Star Wars, any military propaganda and other forms of blockbusters.
you're underestimating the power of sonic fandom autism. but yes that movie was dogshit
Sonic still has a huge autistic loyal fandom after like 20 years of consistently dogshit vidya games, and you're surprised a decent, competent movie got sequels?
I honestly think Generations and Frontier were good.
I honestly think Generations and Frontiers were good. Hell, I even think 06 is an underrated pleb-filter kino. But Shadow's spin-off game is garbage, it's the most cynical and soulless cash-grab game ever made.
06 is a literal broken unfinished game people that got "filtered" have standards
Never underestimate the sheer autistic power of the Sonic fandom.
Because they fixed the design.
Discrimination
Film Sonic was overpowered.
He was The Flash / Quicksilver levels of fast
youre a punk ass little homosexual Black person
It was fine. You are just gay
The human (Black person) "comedy" in these films is unbearable. I wish it was full CG
I don't mind that it's live-action, I just hate that humans and anthros weren't living together on Earth right from the start.

Who will be the actor who plays Shadow?
Jason Statham
RPats or Keanu is the only correct answer.
Hayden Christensen
Hayden Christensen? Anakin? Not bad.
Based Hayden should get more work.
idris elba
Aaron Paul
I want Hayden. I want Darth Shadow.
>the movie logo is just the Adventure 2 logo
Oh man this is really happening
Man, I really hope this movie doesn't have another Madea wedding to ruin the momentum like the sequel did.
I'm just really hoping that that black family is out of the equation at this point so we can actually have some Sonic x Shadow Kino, and not any more tyler perry shit .
SA2 is way too plot-driven to allow much room for those human characters, not really sure how they could even pull that off.
>he didn't zozzle at the black wedding antics
sad
you now realize Sonic X was just Adventure with a human family meaninglessly in the plot and a fat hispanic maid.
Sonic X was trash, and everyone knows it.
The black family ruined Sonic 2. Like, I get ESG scores, diversity checkboxes and all that, but holy shit, someone literally thought kids wanted to see le wacky Black person family wedding side plot instead of Sonic and tails.
Absolutely sad.
Donut Lord > Whiny rich homosexual

What did he mean by this?
wtf
>Cinemaphile posters proving to be completely unoriginal
Actually Cinemaphile proving to be a 2million iq hive mind
>SONIE3
>THE HEDG
What did they mean by this?
Will Hayden Christensen really voice shadow?
I've heard the rumours of Hayden voicing Shadow and even though I genuinely love the prequels and Hayden, I don't want Hayden to voice Shadow. I want Keanu Reeves to voice Shadow. And yes, I know that's a meme casting choice so you can laugh at it all you want.
You're right, Based Hayden should get more work and if he voices Shadow, it would connect the Star Wars franchise and the Sonic franchise even more than before.
Hayden’s voice actually fits Shadow
I guess it does. And Hayden never shitted on us Star Wars fans who rightfully hate Disney's counterfeit version of Star Wars, which makes him based in my book.
>jim carrey will reprise his role
can't wait bros
For those that don't remember, Jim Carrey said he would only come out of retirement for Sonic 3 if they let him play a FAT Egghead.
I remember that now. Based Jim wanting to stay true to Eggman's design in the games.
Plus they've got a good excuse with how S2 ended.
>critically injured after battle
>rescued by agent stone and hidden away in secret bunker
>can't do anything but lay around and eat and drink
>gets fat
The blu-ray release better add the & Knuckles tagline or else...
>the Knuckles mini series is also coming this year
>Sonic 3... & Knuckles
And they’ll be bundled together on home video as Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Did you work at all anon?
No I was laid off for months
>the secret 3D Greenhill stage
...the WHAT?
>But Julie-Su won't ever appear again
And that's a good thing. 95% of Archie designs are terrible!
I gave up short of some 13 A ranks. That was pure nonsense.
Sonic 3 is the only film I genuinely want to see this year. I am cautiously optimistic about it.
>Jim Carrey has returned for Sonic 3 despite announcing retirement previously.
YES
Cherry on top would be Hayden Christensen actually playing as Shadow after all
No Amy, no buy.

Kino
The first movie wasn't supposed to be a a success nor it would spawn a movie franchise but here we are.
It was all fixed with the re-design
And a TV show on parmount plus with knuckles soon
The first movie was made by Sony, which is a woke moronic company that mandated black people in the cast. Paramount had to fix the movie when they bought it.
>There is an alternate reality where the uncanny design was kept, causing the movie to flop and the franchise to die in its infancy
Good to know our timeline isn't the worst one out there.
I completely agree with you.
I prefer the original design. New one is just boring to be honest
Tim Miller, who's a close associate with the director (both worked on the 1st movie and Shadow The Hedgehog's CG cutscenes) has elaborated on the controversy behind Sonic's design. https://youtu.be/p_5JdYo7gN4?s

What about Rouge and Amy? what will they be doing?
OH AND PLEASE GOD DON'T CENSOR ROUGES GODMILKERS
You know damn will Rouge will be flatchested and covered up.
Why do Americans hate boobs so much?
Rouge and Amy probably won’t show up.
There's a rumour that Amy will appear in the film in fricking Egypt (of all places). Who fricking knows?
My cute pink Egyptian hedgehog.
>Classic Amy
Fricking based. Classic Amy is vastly superior to Modern Amy. Classic Amy is my wife forever.
Wasn’t that leak deboonked I can’t remember
What made SA2 so special?
chao garden
If we ever get Sonic Adventure 3, it needs a chao garden or else it won't deserve to be called Sonic Adventure 3.
>What made SA2 so special?
What made SA2 so special is the fact that it had SOVL and it had a lot of heart.
>What made SA2 so special?
You're right and Amy is fought in an Egypt-themed stage (probably Egypt itself) called Flying Carpet Zone (if I remember correctly) in Sonic The Fighters.
I completely agree with you. In fact, the boss fights and their early 2000s rock music redeemed Sonic Frontiers in my eyes.
Thanks.
>great soundtrack
>ridiculous story played completely straight
>every character is given time to shine
>best opening sonic level ever
>lots of fun side content
It just worked
The Gamecube port, Sonic became a Zennial hallmark and gave birth to memes and furgays
Tight controls, memorable stages, and appealing graphics that took full advantage of the Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast was the first console I ever bought entirely with my own saved-up pocket money (along with Sonic Adventure 1) as an 11-year-old kid in 1999. Good times. I will always fondly remember those days and I wish Sega was still making consoles. A relic of a happier, simpler and better time. We'll never get it back.
It's probably the truest example you'll find of the SOVL meme; complete sincerity and clarity of vision
You're right.
Thank God she's white. Based Sonic bringing back the kino.
What they did to Mario and Peach was noticed immediately and it is going to get way worse for them too
You could give that role to anyone else.
>in fricking Egypt (of all places)
There were multiple egyptian desert levels in Sonic Adventure 2
If Rouge appears in the film and they desexualise her, I'll be pissed.
Honest answer? The guy who played that professor in the Alita movie (forgot his name) should play Gerald.
CAST HIM
Jim Carrey but with make up

He should play Eggman Black person i mean Nega too

I think it's the first time I say that on this website but I actually think she's too young.
Isn't Maria supposed to be like 8?
12-14
One billion.
Based. Shadow was a very lucky guy.
It's probably not going to be better than the fan-film Project Shadow, especially if they cast a Black person to play Maria.
>BLACK HEARTED EVIL, BRAVE HEARTED HERO
>Disgusting black creatures, get out of my sight
Uhh Shadowbros...
>Disgusting black creatures, get out of my sight
That line was the only good thing about Shadow's spin-off game, in my opinion.
>DAMN
>live and learn riff in the teaser
>jim carrey confirmed back
I will now watch your kino.
>live and learn riff in the teaser
Live & Learn will be played in the film? Good, thank God that Crush 40 masterpiece will appear in the movie instead of some generic dogshit Black person rap song.

Source? I'm glad Jim Carrey is back if you're telling the truth.
>some generic dogshit Black person rap song
That was for Knuckles
You hear eggman laugh in the trailer and Its all over twitter that he has been confirmed as coming back.
Thanks for the reply.
I abhor Taylor Swift. If this post ends in repeating numbers, Taylor Swift will voice Amy.
FRICK YOU, GAYLOR SWIFT!!!!!
>Shadow
Oh god, oh frick
I think Angourie Rice should play Maria. Or at least not a Black person.
Something about Sonic Weirds me out but I can’t quite put my finger on it
If the do end up playing any of the tracks from SA2 at any point in the movie I probably will unironically onions face
I will also probably unironically onions face if they play any SA2 tracks in the film, but let's face it, they won't. There will only be generic dogshit Black person rap songs in the film's soundtrack.
I want to believe the director wouldn’t be so stupid. You CANNOT adapt SA2 without the music
>I want to believe the director wouldn’t be so stupid.
So do I. Fingers crossed.
>You CANNOT adapt SA2 without the music
You're right, SA2's music is fricking iconic.

>Adventureshit
Dropped. They should've followed the classic games and adapted Sonic CD.
Nah I want some live and learn kino

KINO MOTHERFRICKING CONFIRMED
Does anyone other than me have their own Sonic-related headcanons? In one of my Sonic-related headcanons, Vanilla had a one-night stand with Eggman (at least in the games) and that's how Cream was born. Also, Cream should have TWO EYELASHES on both of her eyes. And because Paramount are homosexuals, they probably won't make Eggman Cream's father. That's why I think Cream's father in Sonic 3 should be Shadow. I don't know why I love the idea of Eggman (and Shadow, to a lesser extent) being Cream's father so much.
>Does anyone other than me have their own Sonic-related headcanons?
Yes, the entire Sonic fanbase does that
>Shadow actually enjoys Cream's company
>Sonic is kinda a dick sometime
>Everyone can turn Super Saiyen, not just hedgehog
>Eggman and Robotnik are counterpart from 2 timelines. Eggman can be dangerous but is mostly goofy, Robotnik is just a psycho. Think of Silve Age Joker / Modern Society Clown.

>Knuckles is not a drooling moron, he's actually wise
>Shadow is not as fast as Sonic and not as strong as Knuckles, but close to both
is not a drooling moron, he's actually wise
I think the same thing. I don't think he's straight up stupid. He's just spent his whole life alone on a floating island. He's not and idiot, he's just naive. Hell, he hasn't spoken to another person/echidna in over a decade and has no form of communication with the outside world. He can be smart/wise, but his naivety gets taken advantage of.

I hope so, man.
It’s all up to licensing, I’d guess.
there is no way crush 40 is more expensive than that bruno mars song
Point taken.
I just hope they keep the original
You're right. I fricking HATED that homosexual Bruno Mars having his music played in Sonic 2.
Only the classic game's music has licensing issues.
I hope so I don’t want Bad a bunny or some other shitty artist doing a cover
Yosh'.
Just leave Live and Learn to the climax. Do NOT put it on any trailer
Yeah kind of killed the hype just a bit. Imagine going in blind and it just fricking starts playing in the climax? God damn I would climax myself
It better be the original Crush 40 version of Live And Learn instead of a shitty remake.
I also hope it isn’t some bs artist and just a re recording
It IS to set up hype. I just hope they avoid playing the song in any of the trailers
When does Biolizard get set up?
It's listed when Rouge gives her lore dump on Shadow in the Canon's Core on the Ark. She lists that Shadow might not be the original Shadow. The Biolizard is also straight out shown in the scene on the monitors behind Rouge. Pretty cool stuff to go back and realize that this crazy melodramatic plot about hedgehogs is surprisingly coherent.
Not the original shadow ? What can you elaborate more anon? I don’t remember
So Shadow is basically the 2nd revision made with the help of aliens...
>lore dump me on Shadows origin story.
...so about those aliens...
That's the set-up, rest in shown in game.
tl;dr Sonic canon is stupid and I love it.
So it was later retcon that Sonic and the rest are indeed aliens and come from another world?
>So it was later retcon that Sonic and the rest are indeed aliens and come from another world?
Not in the games. The games are still 100% on Earth. However a recent 'retcon' would be that the Chaos Emeralds specifically are from another planet. This was dumped in Frontiers, but it does tie back to Shadow (2005), but I wonder if that's just coincidence rather than actual planning.
The movies decided to go with the 'other world' idea from the earlier western cartoons, probably because it would make more sense to general audiences over the 'yeah, there's just blue talking hedgehogs on Earth'
I haven’t played in a long time. But even in cartoon and Sonic X anime it shows that Sonic is an alien. Also some of the games the enviorments don’t look like they are from earth
>But even in cartoon and Sonic X anime it shows that Sonic is an alien.
Yeah, a lot of the cartoons had him as an alien. Again, it's just easier for a casual audience member to understand because you're right
>some of the games the environments don’t look like they are from earth
Yep, it's kind hard for people that aren't neck deep into this shit to reconcile, but in the games, it is Earth and all of Sonic's friends are just creatures that live on Earth, except for Shadow who was man-made in a lab
for more info on Shadow shit.
Shit i fricking forgot about the whole mural stuff and shadow possibly being based on that. Your autism is greater than mine good sir.
Something about creating a prototype of the Ultimate Lifeform. I don't remember, the last time I played SA2 was literally over 20 years ago.
This is from a cutscene in the dark side story. It's pretty fleshed out.
Sonic bros lore dump me on Shadows origin story. Does he come from Sonic’s world or is he man made ?
He is made to be the ultimate lifeform on a space station orbiting earth by using evil alien DNA and the chaos emeralds. His creator is Dr Eggman's grandfather.
Why does he coincidentally look like a hedgehog though ?
Because hedgehogs are clearly the apex of biological design stupid! Jokes aside its just so Sonic has a dark doppelganger rival and has no reason for him to be hedgehog. I would also like to add on to my previous lore dump that Shadow was specifically made to cure Maria of a deadly illness who is Dr. Gerald's grand daughter which makes her eggman's cousin.
So Shadow, Knuckes, Sonic, Amy, ect waren’t aliens before ?
In early American localisation of the first games they were from mobius but in Japan they were always from earth. Its the same with Robotnik. He was always called Eggman in japan.
Isn’t sonic an alien
In the old lore there were no aliens at all. Sonic lore stopped being consistent soon after Shadow's debut game though.
In the original Japanese version of the games, Sonic's home planet is Earth (albeit obviously an alternate version of Earth where humans and anthros live together). South Island is even stated to be somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.
Shadow was artificially created.
The mural depicts Sonic (as Super Sonic).
I am pleasantly surprised that Maria is white, just like she is in the games. Based Sonic bringing back the kino.
Shadow dies redirecting the falling space station away from Earth
Everything after SA2 with Shadow, I don't care about. Aliens came in, clones, Bejita, who knows. It was bad and stayed bad

Knuckles = Piccolo

You're right. Stay based.

Sonic 3 will make 3 billies. You saw it here first. Us Sonic Chads won.
>Verification not required.
>Sonic gets captured
>Coincidentally ends up in the same cell Gerald was hold prisoner
Hope they fix this blunder.
Shadow spinoff wasn't that bad. You can tell they were slightly burned out after Heroes tho.
>Shadow spinoff wasn't that bad.
That was a lot to write, but damn it, it's rant I've had for like a decade, so whatever.
tl;dr, I agree. Shadow is not that bad a game.
That's a lot of text I'm not reading to back up an opinion that had no substance lmao
>100 million dollar budget Hollywood movie logo looks worse than the actual game logo
What the FRICK are they doing??
Maria will be a Diverse Minority Woman.
The actress who will play Maria is literally on the thread and is white anon
Again, there is no way in hell current day hollywood is showing or implying that a black girl gets gunned down by feds.
I unironically feel nostalgic for Sonic 1 because it was the last movie I saw in theaters before COVID lockdowns.
>This would mean Amy would go from pink to green if she ever went super.)
Oh shid, green Super Amy? I'll take that
did they just make a sonic underground reference
shadow sucks. hes only fun to play as in sa2 where hes a sonic clone. his game is garbage, hes never fun to play as in any other game just like any character other than sonic, or characters that essentially behave exactly the same as sonic. his personality sucks and anything involving him or anything around him is boring and moronic. hoping the movie will make him actually interesting to watch for once.
>Shadow this soon
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it too soon for Shadow? Don't they have to set up a lot of shot before him ?
Only really Sonic Adventure. Part of me wonder if they're gonna try to shoehorn Adventure 1 stuff into this. Like replacing Biolizard with Perfect Chaos or something.
Probably not we need live and learn kino
I made a post like this 2 years ago about how I believed that Sonic 3 is going to combine elements of SA1 with SA2 (like replacing Biolizard with Perfect Chaos, for example) and I'm glad to see other people think this too. I think the first 2 live-action Sonic films represent the Genesis era, while the third live-action Sonic film will represent the Dreamcast era.
Rouge the Bat the Movie when?
If a bunch of internet morons like us can get a movie studio to change the way a character looks there’s no way we can’t get them to put the song in the climax RIGHT!?
The riff of Live And Learn was already played in that short teaser video. It's going to be in the film.
I think they're holding off on revealing who will play Shadow. So it's probably going to be some A-list actor.
3 billies confirmed.
Guys what are the chances they will waste Live and Learn on a trailer instead of using it on the climax of the movie ?
Very high unfortunately. Modern hollywood are dipshits who haven't learnt the art of the trailer.
Sure it will built hype but I feel Live and Learn would be best fit in the climax of the movies instead of the trailer
No they have to play the original Live and Learn in the climax. No fricking Black person rapper re-recording. Just the original masterpiece
I feel like they will waste it but who knows
Wait they did that? Why the frick didn’t they use it on the movie ?
I think the director doesn't want to blow his load with fanservice and rather maintained the films to stand out on their own, which is kinda like the opposite of what Mario turned out to be.
Well too bad
Sega really does seem to gave some kind of planning / marketing synergy going on here with sonic 3 and generations shadow
I feel like we're hitting that mk 11 point where the newer characters are too shitty to sustain the sequels though
I can't stay awake anymore, I'm out. Gonna be sleeping good tonight, my fellow Sonic Chads.
longtime fan of the Sonic games here. I didn’t watch the first or second movie. are they woke? or are they worth watching?
You could replace Movienic with any CG creature and it would change nothing in the first movie. The second tries to grab more from the games, but little
In short: no
>longtime fan of the Sonic games here.
So am I, the first Sonic game I ever played was Sonic 1 in 1996 though I wish I played it for the first time in 1991.
>I didn’t watch the first or second movie. are they woke? or are they worth watching?
They're not woke, they're just mid as frick. Fingers crossed that the third film will be spectacular.
