Live action remakes are already petering out and whether Netflix ATLA is bad or simply mediocre will not change the flow of the tide. It would have to be legit good in order to put any life back into this dying horse, and it won't, because Netflix's arrangement with Nickelodeon is ending and there is no hope of it being renewed due to all of Nickelodeon's IP going to Paramount+. It's the same shit with Dreamworks, it's on borrowed time because Universal wants all of Dreamworks' future content to be on Peawiener.
Little Mermaid came at a high price. Audiences are not going to show up to their next live action remake because they're all going to be wondering what Disney is going to frick up, plus their back catalogue is already running very thin with most of their biggest hits already having been remade or reimagined. They're scraping the bottom of the barrel and Little Mermaid was supposed to be a layup to pay for the other projects like Dumbo hat they knew wouldn't do so well, and the Disney+ exclusives that are just crap to pad up their service a little more.
All eyes are on Nintendo right now because Mario Bros. made $1.3 billion. The thing is, game publishers are watching too, and the big takeaways from Mario Bros. are 1) Mario is a gaming IP that has a lot of nostalgia wrapped around it, and 2) Nintendo, the IP owner, had a lot of creative control over it rather than just licensing it out to the studio. There is going to be a lot more interest in gaming-derived movies going forward but the game publishers are not just going to give the studios carte blanche control over how their brands are represented like they have in the past (Resident Evil, ugly Sonic, etc.). The line between generations of movies are blurry but we're currently going around the corner, and it's gonna be a rough ride for the studios until they get over the death throes of the old.

This whole show was designed to work as an animation targeted towards kids. Copy pasting everything but in live action never works for this reason. Especially in something like anime (or I guess in this case anime-inspired) where everything is designed to be way less subtle. The ironic part about this is that these shows are so on the nose when it comes to the visuals and emotional reactions that it should be easier to translate since you know exactly whats being intended. If you look at this image the Shyamalan design effectively conveys the same as the cartoon is intending, just in a way that better fits live action. My only complaints would be the arrow tattoo being barely visible and the overall costume needing a bit more color.

The fact that the SCNK isn't federally recognized isn't in itself sufficient to dismiss the tribe as legitimate. Many tribes didn't receive federal recognition until after dozens of legal battles.
I work closely with local/state politics in North Carolina, so I have to be knowledgeable about these things, and trust me when I say that the shitshow that is tribal recognition is neverending. The Cherokee, specifically, are notoriously selective and protectionist (read: racist) toward other tribes identifying alongside the Cherokee whose eligibility criteria aren't as stringent as their own. SCNK is recognized by other tribes, just not the federal government or the monolith that is the Cherokee Nation. They've been established for a long time and are, for all intents and purposes, a "legitimate" tribe.

This whole show was designed to work as an animation targeted towards kids. Copy pasting everything but in live action never works for this reason. Especially in something like anime (or I guess in this case anime-inspired) where everything is designed to be way less subtle. The ironic part about this is that these shows are so on the nose when it comes to the visuals and emotional reactions that it should be easier to translate since you know exactly whats being intended. If you look at this image the Shyamalan design effectively conveys the same as the cartoon is intending, just in a way that better fits live action. My only complaints would be the arrow tattoo being barely visible and the overall costume needing a bit more color.
