I would have liked the idea that the actor for death would swap races/body depending on whos point of view is looking at her. I guess it would be kind a nightmare in terms of shooting and could confuse the normies though.
The Sandman was an interesting exploration of what comic storytelling could do, but it's not coherent or effective compared to Gaiman's later works and is also a bit derivative of various other British Invasion comic writers. He get's his own voice later when he wrote actual books. Gaiman was never a good comic book writer.

It's a real shame. They could have probably made them all really creepy and unsettling had they just leaned into it more faithfully.
And ignoring it to do whatever they've done instead isn't exactly progressive or whatever either, so they just lose on both fronts. Some people call the videogame Hades woke or pozzed or whatever, but disregarding that whole debate, Hades still managed to make its characters look properly otherworldly. It's not that difficult. And it's more than possible to do it in liveaction too. But not here I guess.

It's going to be dog shit because the budget was not big enough to get "the best" in any role in the serie's production. The casting would always be shit. The scripting and directing would almost definitely be shit as well.
The budget is actually pretty big, one if the more expensive netflix originals, actually. But money can't buy quality and passion.
