anime being popular in America doens't surprise me. What surprises me is that instead of sci-fi/action aimed at adults being the most popular stuff for adult audiences, it's all cute and SOL stuff and shonens. I'm a boomer but I thought shit like GITS and Cowboy Bebop and Ninja Scroll would be stuff that'd appeal to people who were into anime because that's what teenagers got into anime for- action and genre fiction done in animation.
