That's the only thing in the movie that kinda made it feel somewhat lacking, we only saw the major US cities getting BTFO, would've been cool to see cities around the world getting curb stomped.

That's our creation mythos, but I think America has more or less just carried the sentiment more than any particular foe, and we just shift history to make sure all our enemies were also dastardly villains invading or oppressing people. They were, usually, but still. The british subjugating the colonies, the injuns subjugating the settlers, the confederates subjugating the blacks, the mexicans subjugating texas, the spanish subjugating cuba and the philippines, germans subjugating europe, japan subjugating the pacific, commies subjugating asia, etc. It's just a really good trope to use for history or stories.
