My problem with Tim and Eric is how confidently they attempted absurdist comedy while have no idea what absurdist comedy even was. The only times they'd hit was when they brought in literal morons and filmed them with old cameras, and when John C Reilley carried.
The men themselves were morons who probably thought absurdism was pretentious and phony because they just couldn't fathom that there was some logic behind it.

Tim and Eric were painfully unfunny as writers, but Doug Lussenhop was a really talented editor who managed to hit that nice 'old amateur camcorder footage' pastiche really well and no one would've thought they were funny without him

Yeah it was well edited but Tim & Eric Great Job was hilarious because they were hiring "actors" off of Craigslist.

I think American comedy has just always been overwhelmingly cringe and awful. America was only really capable of producing comedy kino (like The Simpsons and King of the Hill) in the 90's for some reason. I don't know what that's about.
