It's not an opinion, it's a fact. That was when their box office grosses really exploded and they started doing billion dollar grosses just for solo films of new heroes. Other than Ant-Man 2, all their films released in 2018 and 2019 did a billion dollars, two of them did two billion.
>charismatic Christian white lead
Funny how the father of his character is literally a God that turns himself into an Adam and becomes the villain of the film. Very christian and pro-fatherly was the film, in deed.
It got popular with normies due to positive word of mouth.
Also this was still a time when the convention was that you had to make comic movies 'grounded' or general audiences wouldn't like it, so it had a lot of novelty.
Word of mouth was insane at the time. People were going round saying it was 10/10 and potentially the next Star Wars, and those weren't considered controversial opinions.
Marvel always support their heroes, even the worst one. DCucks all the time is shiting in every new hero because they don't look like Batman. Nolan ruined DC with his vision and DC fell in that, also, capeshit is dying and no one cares about superheroes, DC lost, Marvel won. Plus, Marvel get a lot of good movies because was fragmented with Fox, Disney, Universal and Sony.
Yes, it was.
Next you're going to say that the marketing for Captain Marvel wasn't almost entirely based on audiences NEEDING to watch it as a key piece to understanding Endgame.
Show me the marketing focused entirely on the infinity stones and Thanos. I'll wager the marketing you find will all be about the space crew of misfits and their cool soundtrack.
The marketing was of a fun space adventure with a comedic tone and cool 70s and 80s songs, very removed from the basic Marvel superhero Earth setting. What absolute nonsense are you talking about? The infinity stones being explained in this film was a surprise.
The marketing was also based on Thanos first real appearance, on Josh Brolin playing Thanos, on how the Infinity Stones were important for the movie and the Avengers saga, and so on.
At the time I remember people were skeptical that they could make a living tree and raccoon into believable characters, but they did it

To the point the 3rd and final film revolved around said Raccoon as an emotional climax to the overall team's tenure.

Fun fact: the voice of Star Lord in this series is literally the only role Steve Downes has done besides Master Chief
They also weren't automatically doing 700M on a new IP to the general public in 2014. Do you want to go slightly more in depth than just "audiences weren't burnt out"? GOTG was a big part of heating them up.
this is such a bullshit excuse
it outgrossed other Marvel films released in the same time period that were from already established names that featured in Avengers
it was clearly more than just "the Avengers came out two years ago, let's see the raccoon movie"
The overall franchise was hot at that time, which helped and also helped more outlandish properties be palatable to general audiences, BUT the film was still especially well marketed, it looked fresh and different, the tone, setting, characters looked fun and like nothing other superhero films had done.
I siltill hold that this movie's success proves that they didn't need to raceswap left and right, if this C (maybe even D) list team could become a popular with general audiences, tha with good enough writers, and directors, obscure ass black characters (well non white characters in general, but let's be honest these people care about black people more than anything/anyone else) could also be made popular.
Marvel movies were increasing in popularity and James Gunn made an original film that didn’t rely on previous MCU films and starred Chris Pratt, one of the most popular characters on a popular show.
Him and Bradley Cooper (coming into his own after Silver Linings Playbook) sold the movie.
Look at the cast of GOTG:
Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bautista. Those aren’t a bunch of nobodies.
Turns out when you put a good cast with a talented director, people respond!
Bit misleading on Pratt though, at that time he was known as the schlubby dope in Parks and Rec, hardly action hero material. Seeing him all ripped was a shock to most viewers. Even the Comic-Con panel above has Pratt saying "I got the role about six months ago, and they said great job, but you're too fat, so you're gonna work on that". It's easy to look back on him now with all the big films he's headlined but he himself was a bit of a long shot as a blockbuster lead at the time as well.
Watching Pratt explode in 2014/2015 was a lot of fun. He was hitting home runs every time he got up to the plate.
And I truly believe Chris Pratt will end up being the last white A-List star to make it without nepotism
That’s not entirely true. He got cut for Zero Dark Thirty and proved his acting chops in that, Moneyball, and Her. All years before his debut in the MCU.
It’s not about him being a lead, but changing his public perception. He went from the schlubby guy on P&R to being in Seal Team Six and a Major League Baseball Player. Even in the tv show, his character lost his weight and tried to become a cop, with his storylines being a HUGE part of the show.
Honestly the soundtracks. Old heads loves it cause it’s songs they knew. Young heads loved it cause it was good new music they never heard. Why the frick you think they had a dance off. The music carried 1 and 2. It was shit in 3 but at that point they didn’t need it.
-White male lead
-Could recommend it to people who haven't seen other MCU movies
-Attractive Female, I know she's a Black but the most attractive part of a person is their nose and she has typical a tall nose which is a common facial feature of white people and is what makes white people so attractive. Blacks and asians typically have flat or bulbous noses like picrel, which is ugly and piglike
-2 funny meme characters including tree and talking animal
-good ol' fashioned white people music instead of a trailer full of Blackian hiphop
It was the height of Marvel gaybois. Marvel clowns were allowed to go around acting like their preferred capeshit was actually good and nobody told them how gay they were. Take those morons and give them a movie that is literally just 80s pop songs with Office guy making wacky faces.
The fact that it took place in nice looking locations in space helped it a lot. Almost made it feel separate from the MCU despite being part of it. And the soundtrack appeals a lot to parents taking their kids to the movies. It also had quite a lot of heart. I wouldn't call any of the MCU soulful, but Guardians definitely came closest to it.
it was made at the height of Marvel and tiny ounce of creative vision
blue beetle would have been good 4 years ago
Marvel peaked in 2018/2019, after both GOTG 1 and 2
it peaked with infinity war and endgame
Horrible opinion
It's not an opinion, it's a fact. That was when their box office grosses really exploded and they started doing billion dollar grosses just for solo films of new heroes. Other than Ant-Man 2, all their films released in 2018 and 2019 did a billion dollars, two of them did two billion.
It was at the time the MCU established a decent repetition and an loyal fandom.
And most importantly of all it was actually funny and good.
>charismatic Christian white lead
>funny side characters
>took place outside of Earth

and the groot memes were everywhere
Marketing, astroturfing. Just like mandalorian.
It was good and also the MCU still excited people at the time
I have no idea. I've pirated all 3 of them and I've struggled to finish them, they're so cringey and childish.
That's James Gunn for you.
Marvel always support their heroes, even the worst one. DCucks all the time is shiting in every new hero because they don't look like Batman. They made a film that looked appealing to a wide audience. You don't need a big name comic book character to do that.
The marketing was all based on Thanos appearing for the first time in all his glory in this movie, as well as the explanation for the magic stones.
General audiences did not care about that stuff, and I do not remember Thanos being mentioned in any of the official marketing at all.
No it wasn't. At all.
Just search for GotG and Thanos.
Or I could "search" for the film's trailers, its posters, its TV spots and its convention panels.
How much Thanos do you want to bet will feature?
"search" what?

Did any marvel movie really do poorly back then ? Also it had a good word of mouth
>so much money
It made about as much as Captain America 2 and Thor 2, and way less than Iron Man 3.
it was a good movie.
people have forgotten that, really, all you need to do, is make a good movie.
People weren’t burnt out on superhero movies. Guardians of the Galaxy sucks hard though
They also weren't automatically doing 700M on a new IP to the general public in 2014. Do you want to go slightly more in depth than just "audiences weren't burnt out"? GOTG was a big part of heating them up.
Probably because it was only 2 years after Avengers/phase 1, and people were still riding the hype from that.
this is such a bullshit excuse
it outgrossed other Marvel films released in the same time period that were from already established names that featured in Avengers
it was clearly more than just "the Avengers came out two years ago, let's see the raccoon movie"
It could've been that, combined with it being new/fresh faces to normies/general audiences
The overall franchise was hot at that time, which helped and also helped more outlandish properties be palatable to general audiences, BUT the film was still especially well marketed, it looked fresh and different, the tone, setting, characters looked fun and like nothing other superhero films had done.
Good movie with great direction
>space kino vs mexican iron boy
Word of mouth honestly. I kept hearing about it from people who didn't give a frick about MCU
Mahvel at its peak, versus DC being as shifty as ever.

I watched it exclusively for Zoe.

>Why the frick you think they had a dance off
There was no music playing in that scene? He did it for like 10 seconds to distract the villain.
White male lead.
Capeshit at the time was young and emerging. They had momentum.
Good music.
We are Groot.
Ooga ooga oogachaka
Hehe he flipped off the camera
Wow space
Talking funny tree AND racoon.? Gettefrickkottahere
"Who?"
It had a good trailer and good reception.
timeline change in 2013,
In 2013, social media and forums were full of MCUgays, disneygays and I am puttting together a team-gays
Connected film were A HUGE MISTAKE.
