not even the first film to play that song in the climax. Short Circuit 2 did it in 1988

Reminder the Disney Renaissance died because Katzenisraelite was a malding manlet and poached talented Disney staff throughout the end of the 90’s for Shrek

he poached talent for the 2D films (of which only Prince of Egypt turned out good)

Shrek (the first movie) is clearly superior.

I fricking hate all the dumb pop-culture references they shoved into this movie.

same. A lot of them are visual references, as in altered versions of a popular scene

to name one of dozen examples, Shrek reading "Mrs Fiona Charming" over and over on her diary is a Shining reference ("all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy")

Except Shrek is a schizo and reads it in a voice.

i hate how directors played dumb in the audio commentary by barely acknowledging the references. You'll see Fiona kissing an upside down Shrek like Spiderman 1 or Puss ripping through Shrek's chest like Alien, yet directors don't say anything about it

The references are so obvious they probably thought they weren't worth acknowledging.

they did acknowledge Puss fighting those knights near the end as an Attack of the Clones reference (they call it "a Yoda like moment")

The Penguin movie was better than all of the Madagascars, and Puss in Boots was better than all of the Shreks. But they made those with a new animation system, and it shows.

this lasts just as long as the first film, 83 mins without credits. 1 was able to tell its story rather well in that short runtime. This one? Not as much. Pacing isn't tight. Everything moves at fast forward

    >Antz, Shrek, Shrek 4-D, Shrek 2, Madagascar
they were made at Pacific Data Images, while Shark Tale (released between Shrek 2 and Madagascar) was made in-house at Dreamworks

Dreamworks adquired a 40% stake on PDI in early 1996 before buying them completely in february 2000. Antz and most of Shrek were made in the 40% stake years

Because Meyers fricked it up with the retread shit Scot accent he did. Farley was supposed to be Shrek, but he died. The main cast in the first one all have American accents, Fiona, Donkey, even Farquaad.
So they had to go with Brit accents for the lame old idea that fantasy has to have UK accents (dwarves sounding scottish, etc...), and never explained why Fiona has parents with English accents, but she doesn't, even though she grew up with them. But get those big names on the poster, yo.
The Shrek movies are shit. Don't look too close, they fall apart fast.

I want to see the Farley cut. That might be because I hate Mike Meyers and how he overstayed his welcome with his shit accents and lousy delivery.

    >we're not going
    >what?
    >i mean, don't you think they might be a bit... shocked to see you like this?
    >well, they might be a bit surprised. But they're my parents, Shrek, they love me. And don't worry, they're going to love you too
    >yeah, right. Somehow i don't think i'll be welcome at the country club
    >will you stop it? They're not like that
    >then how do you explain Sergeant Pompous and the Fancy Pants Club Band?!
    >oh, come on! You could at least give them a chance
    >oh, to do what? Sharpen their pitchforks?
    >no! They just want to give you their blessing
    >oh... great. Now i need their blessing?
    >well, if you want to be a part of this family, yes!
    >and who says i want to be part of this family?
    >uh, you did! When you married me?
    >well, there's some fine print for you!
    >so that's it? You won't come?
    >trust me. It's a bad idea. We are not going, and that's final!
according to the commentary, some lines of this early discussion (like the "part of this family" exchange) were originally meant for the later discussion at Fiona's bedroom. I think they made a mistake by changing the placement of the lines. Shrek comes across as toxic here, and it doesn't feel justified like in bedroom scene. He escalated things without need
