They had three years from when the announcent was made to get something off the ground or they will lose the lease of the movie rights forever. Current owners (Embracer) think WB have squandered them for years so pretty much last chance saloon.

Seriously, though. Remaking these movies in a climate of mandatory diversity is such an inherently doomed concept. It was bad enough in the show where they were portraying characters nobody'd seen in live action and it was still blatantly incongruous. Treading on the toes of performances that are ingrained in everyone's mind is just going to be so, so much worse.

Can anybody think of a single major character that can be race swapped without it coming off as ridiculous? Denzel as Aragorn? Juancarlo Esposito as Elrond? Jeffrey Wright as Gimli? Samuel L. Jackson as Saruman? Tell me any of those wouldn't be just constantly, unintentionally hilarious. What a farce this will be

A remake is a bad idea, they’ll just butcher the films. If they added to the lore, made movies about other eras or adventures in LOTR universe, then even if they make them really gay, at least partially the movies might be interesting.

This is the single greatest movie trilogy in the history of cinema. If they frick this up, which I think they will, WB is finished & will go bankrupt once and for all. You don't frick with Tolkien's god-tier magnum opus which redefined the medium forever.

The LOTR trilogy is so ingrained into pop culture that it would be a suicide mission to try to remake it. Even modern day Hollywood isn't greedy enough to attempt it. No credible director would touch it with a 10 ft pole.

They will 100% make some virtue signaling piece of shit LOTR movie (see Rings of Power), but they won't touch the original trilogy for a long long time. Imagine the millions they would have to spend just to make the original actors not talk shit about a remake.

New films, spin offs where they create their own stories from footnotes since there are no more complete stories to tell that they have rights to.
So will be pretty the same as the Amazon show since they both have the same rights, just will be a different time period and focussing on different character since they have both made non-compete agreements.

    >The Tolkien scholar Carol Leibiger writes that Shelob is presented as a disgusting female monster in the story.
    >The Anglican priest and scholar of religion Alison Milbank adds that Shelob is undeniably sexual: "Tolkien offers a most convincing Freudian vegana dentata (toothed vegana) in the ancient and disgustingly gustatory spider Shelob." Milbank states that Shelob symbolises "an ancient maternal power that swallows up masculine identity and autonomy", threatening a "castrating hold [which] is precisely what the sexual fetishist fears, and seeks to control".
    >The Tolkien scholar Jane Chance mentions "Sam's penetration of her belly with his sword", noting that this may be an appropriate and symbolic way of ending her production of "bastards".
    >The scholar of children's literature Zoë Jaques writes that Shelob is the "embodiment of monstrous maternity"; Sam's battle with Shelob could be interpreted as a "masculine rite of passage" where a smaller, weaker male penetrates and escapes the vast female body and her malicious intent.
    >The Tolkien scholar Brenda Partridge described the hobbits' protracted struggle with Shelob as rife with sexual symbolism. She writes that Tolkien derived Shelob from multiple myths: Sigurd killing Fafnir the dragon; Theseus killing the Minotaur; Ariadne and the spider; and Milton's Sin in Paradise Lost. The result is to depict the woman as a threat, with implicit overtones of sexuality.

I used to not care as much. I let it go in House of the Dragons. But the whole inserting Blacks into fantasy just don't work for me, at least not how they go about it.

Remove all the israeliteery and anti-White race hatred out of the equation: fiction with black people in it is instantly shitty because blacks can't be depicted as villains. If there's a black character you as the viewer know they're good and it removes any semblance of intrigue.

GOTG3 had a black villain and he was a completely unsympathetic psychopath.

                >They won't let blacks be villains ever!

Let me break it down for you considering you feel this is debate club. Blacks make movies worse because the current batch of them can't act. The movies with fewer blacks are better. The third guardians movie with a black ham actor sucked compared to the previous two. Let me resubmit my thesus statement for you to critique, professor:

Blacks are either flawless heroes or hammy villains.

I hope you approve my doctorate!

                That's not what you said.

Never mind how stupid your claim is, like apparently Lee Pace being a really boring background bad guy is better than the Peacemaker actor being an old school hammy mad scientist.

Depends on whether you want funny, cool, emotionally engaging, what kind of scene do you want? That covers a wide range. Peter murdering the scientist, Rocket's evolving relationships in his flashbacks, Drax meeting the test tube children, the hallway melee, Peter returning to Earth, the long credits intro, Rocket claiming his full name and species and the Evolutionary getting thrashed, the Counter-Earth's destruction, the Fillion scenes on the organic science station, are all pretty different tones of scenes, yet they're all fresh in my mind having seen the film back last summer. More than I can say for the rest of the recent Marvel films.

You must not have that high of an opinion about it if your metric is the recent Marvel films. Shit, it was better than Marvels? Sounds awesome.

I didn't say that. Don't skim posts if you're still going to reply. I haven't seen the Marvels, I probably won't ever see it.

How far back do you want to do?
                It was better than Quantumania?
It was better than Wakanda Forever?
                It was better than Morbius?

Just because you got used to eating shit doesn't mean it was good.

I didn't say anywhere "it was better than ___ at least". I said having seen it once last summer, it all remains fresh in my mind, and then I implied other recent Marvel films had immediately dropped out of my head, which they did.

You asked for a scene, I named scenes, you ignored them.

It was forgettable. Gunn seemed to be just going through the motions. It started to bear the weight of the deluge of Marvel content outside the movies.
