Why not just make mad max 5? If it's a preeyel there's no tension because we already know who lives and dies.

It's not like the world was any different in the setting in Furiosa than it was in Fury Road. What's the appeal of doing a prequel?

It's moronic because Max became Mad when they killed his wife and kid. Furiousa who grows up in paradise is just called that at birth. Stupid frickin scenes of kids wandering in the garden of eden calling out the name "Hey, TragicDeathHateRevengeLord" as one of their born names

Making a prequel also ruins the mythic tone of the series. Every choice Miller has made about Furiosa has been a bad one. She is his siren song.

      Anonymous

I guess mostly because Miller ended up writing so much stuff about the charcaters, he wanted to bring at least some of that to a screen. And partly, I bet, he just wanted the series to be about more characters than just Max.

Because Gibson wouldn't be in it, which means they'd have to do some all female reboot or some other woke fantasy. Which would also bomb hard. The industry is backed into a corner now, with no way out

Do anons not understand that this movie is a make-work job project for regional australians by the government? There's nothing but ice (meth) to do out in these towns so they were keen to spend the grant money on the movie to make some work out there, try to get some production people spending at local businesses selling coffee etc. They don't give a frick if the movie sells tickets they (the govt) aren't going to get that money. And George doesn't give a frick either he's got his portion of the grant in his pocket.
This movie exists because the mad max story happens to be set in that part of the world, not because anyone wanted to see a furiosa road prequel

do you think Furiosa is bombing because of woke politics, or do you think it's bombing because people can't afford a spaghetti dinner in Biden's economy, much less a $30 movie ticket?

Economics has nothing to do with it. People have endless streaming options, the pandemic and lockdowns solidified this trend. Men don’t want to watch this movie because they think it’s woke. Women don’t care about action movies, much less one based around CARS. Not to mention the wanton “patriarchal” undertones of the Mad Max world, with rampant sexual violence and sexual slavery. Most women don’t wanna watch that. That’s it

It was Mad Max and Road Warrior were both cult movies, RW did much better but it still was a low budget violent post apocalyptic movie with zero romance. That was back in 1981 or so. They were very influential, but still niche.

Do they? None of them are in the current box office top 10 for 2024

horror can be made on a shoestring budget and so tends to do fairly profitable compared to the amount of money that goes into them and there is always the possibility of blowing up like the Blair Witch Project and making a ton of cash.
Horror just sort of semi disappeared for awhile because the big tentpoles dominated for most of the last two decades. People are just noticing now because its the only genre that can be made quickly without much risk of a loss.

        Anonymous

I mean I think there's a difference between making 35 on a budget of 15 and making a killing. The margins are low on horror. And Blair Witch was 25 years ago. Do you know the last time a cheap/low budget horror movie was in the top 10 for worldwide gross?

          Anonymous

The budgets are so low that they don't have to be in the top-10 worldwide. Five Nights at Freddy's cost 20 million and made 300 million.
