never watched avatar don't care
So, are we reaching a new level of Cinemaphilentrarianism where people begin to pretend the Shyamalan movie was actually good?
Just the costumes were marginally better than what we saw of the new one so far
While the M. Night costume looks fine the problem is that looks like a generic Shaolin costume, there's no way to know it's Avatar
i think people at large are just coming to the realization that live action adaptations are almost always unnecessary and worse than the original. this has no reason to exist other than greed.
>Stop having fun, consumer! Go watch some lame Netflix drama that isn't kiddie shit!
Nice defense mechanism there, bucko. You serve the system well.
Live action remakes are the absolutely definition of soulless consumerism. The only point of them is to hold the ip and reuse scripts to make easy money off of idiot stay at home moms and their brats.
>are almost always unnecessary and worse than the original
The only superior live action adaptation I know of was Jin Roh, anything else?
There continues to be this subset of people who refuse to watch anything animated because it's "for kids," yet will gobble up goyslop like candy just because it's live-action.
Which is particularly funny because most capeshit and the like were basically 90% animated, just in a different style, with the actors' faces or live action backgrounds being occasionally pasted in.
I think it's more a recognition that absolute fidelity can lead to a Halloween costume effect. Being a good adaptation sometimes means, you know, adapting. I don't care about ATLA in any capacity and there is such a thing as going too far, but the general point is right.
If even half the rumors about Shitflix's adaptation turn out to be true, there will be no choice but to genuinely apologize to Shammallama for his attempt. At least it was an artist's vision of what he thinks a live action Avatar should be, and not a committee of Twitter users with social activism brain rot.
What are the rumors? I’ve been out of the loop on this one.
This is why the Holocaust needs to keep being taught about. Motherfrickers forget or refuse to believe how bad shit was as time goes by.
That thing shot like a bullet at the end there. The fire dude tanked it.
can't believe people thought that dance was needed to move that little rock, the dude lifts an earth wall right after.
It would help if the directing/editing wasn’t absolute dogshit
If I remember correctly I think that dance was ment for a wall shield that was formed just before that video starts. It's just directed so terribly that it looks like it's for that tiny rock floating across the screen.
Correct. The levels of incompetence in the movie's production are mindblowing.
Reminder live action will always be a mistake for fantasy and fictional stories.
Mortal Kombat's first movie on the 90s was peak kino tbqh
MK doesn't count because the source material is live action.
Agreed. It would need LOTR tier talent and inspiration to pull off and Netflix doesn't hire talented people.
If its the stuff from before the cast was announced I imagine most of that was tossed out because Aang is a child, Sokka is still the older sibling, and it's not a modern day urban fantasy show about people discovering their secret elemental powers. Not that it means the show will be good but all those early rumors seem to have been squashed at this point. I think with this and One Piece Netflix will be afraid of fricking up another potential big-name franchise adaptation.
The costuming was objectively better in every way yes
Only the tie-in comic was any good.
Dude I still have this somewhere. It actually ties into the cartoon lore more than the movie. Based as frick
If you can't tell that people are criticizing aspects and not the whole, you unironically have some level of moronation.
Zutarachads. Bryke are gone. It's our time.
Somehow yes, we have arrived here.
>Zutarachads. Bryke are gone. It's our time.
The other day I saw an anon try to argue that anything enjoyable in She-Ra was due to CHUCK AUSTEN, despite Chuck being on record in interview to say his input on the show was mainly just getting people to stick to a schedule. People didn't want to believe CHUCK AUSTEN when he said he didn't write something enjoyable.
We've reached a new level of Cinemaphilentrarianism, yes.
You know, i think the Avatar state scene in the movie was pretty good
if your only reason for preentively believing the new movie is superior is that it looks like the cartoon then I have to call your priorities and standards into question.
Frick no. We've just realized real people dressing as cartoon characters is stupid and looks bad.
People have realized that since adaptations to film started occurring
>its contrarianism to call a good film good
This place is getting worse and worse every day.
go frick yourself
>nooo don't call Cinemaphileout
have a nice day.
Of course
All message boards that don't have any post rating or reputation systems will always accumulate the second most popular opinions as if it was the most popular.
it's more than that, just that hollywood's old way of adapting things while cringe, was still more soulful than the cookie cutter post-mcu quipfest with woke politics that every modern adaptation is. same reason the original sonic cut was in fact better than the redesign.
Movies and Tv have always been cookie cutter. Vast majority of all media is just trying to copy whatever is popular and trendy among young people, ie the people with most amount of disposable income. Sitcoms were always ripping off each other. Cop and heroic vigilante/adventurer shows always were repeating the same beats when something proved highly success. Fricking soap operas do it all the time.
I like the scene where 6 earth benders move I tiny rock around
>shit project is bad but it has some good parts
>shit product isn't as bad as everyone says
>I like shit product
>shit product is good and I'm tired of pretending its not
>imagine being filtered by shit product masterpiece
>shit product is better than original
Those are usually the stages
Cinemaphile just hates everything because nothing will give them the new cartoon feeling they used to get when watching as a kid
If they gave Aang more realistically styled clothing (it would just be cloth like this btw) like they do with superhero costumes they would be b***hing as well
Just look at
This is as close as you are getting to the real thing without just stealing their actual clothing style
The M. night suits don’t look like party city shit. They’re objectively better
The lowres pic of TLA Awng makes his arrow tattoo look like a celtic cross.
Left just looks like a typical Ash Wednesday.
No. If an adaptation isn't 1:1 I will automatically hate it.
if an adaptation is 1:1 then what in the frick is the point of the adaptation? why not just watch the original again? what's wrong with it?
The novelty of seeing it in live-action? Or in some other medium? Why fix what's not broken?
what novelty does live action have that animation can't do better with less restrictions?
It doesn't necessarily have to be live-action. Just any adaptation of one story to another. Manga to anime is a perfect example of good 1:1 adaptations. Or we end up getting garbage like TWD.
>It doesn't necessarily have to be live-action
i would prefer animated adaptations almost always. especially if the source material is just inherently cringey if taken literally and in reality like manga.
Manga to Anime is print medium into motion picture adaptation, same thing as adapting a book into a live action movie. You get a whole new perspective into the story with the music, the voice acting and seeing it move.
Cartoon to Live Action is motion picture to motion picture, there isn't anything new being gained with this unless you go out of your way to do something different.
>Novelty of live action
I mean this in the most sincere way possible. have a nice day.
Is there really that much of a novelty? Its not like any avatar live action adaptations have ever been that interesting visually.
I know other anons wanna grab pitchforks for you saying that but I agree, now we get to see a story in a "realistic" looking setting played physically by real humans instead of it just being animated or something (animation is cool tho)
Plus there's that small part of us that thinks it's vindicated when a franchise gets a movie, sort of like how the sois on Cinemaphile were really desperate to have a scrimblo bimbo character they like get into smash bros, it's like a shared private victory between them and the product they consoom (I'm no different I admit)
>scrimblo bimbo
Why did you felt the need to out yourself as a window licker?
>
>they hated him for telling the truth
I agree with you as well. We all here love cartoons, no one is saying animated stuff is bad. But just like how they say live action has limitations, so has animation. Both can be good for different reasons.
However the writing can be the same across both mediums, and thus should be the same.
And it's not like we're saying "It SHOULD become a live action at some point", not, what we're saying is if it has to become a live action at some point, which none of us can control whether it will be or not, then it should be done a certain way
There is none. Unless it's from book/manga/comic to screen its pointless and lazy
Creatively? None.
It makes sense business wise because you can market it to a broader audience of morons if it's live-action.
>cash grab
is it really that hard to shit out one original self contained story
fricking really we have to have the same fricking story retold 20 times
really
I literally stopped watching the JoJo anime because it was so 1:1 it just felt like a time waster since I liked the manga art more anyways and I already knew what was going to happen.
>not watching for the beautiful men
You sound like a homosexual.
Do you think they aren't in the manga or something??? What a strange response.
Actual bot response, I'm convinced.
That's completely justifiable. I only really watch anime of manga I've read if I really, really liked them. And I don't feel completely guilty dropping them if I get bored since I know what happens anyway. I've got other media to consume.
Do you have a picture of their Toph (or their Suki, though I doubt that’d be in a preview)? Is she cute?
Ah yes, penis hair, great costuming.
Imagine being so gay that you look at the back of a girl's head and think of wieners.
Imagine seeing that as you bang her from the back. I’d feel like my wiener was enormous.
Tfw no irl ctf gf
Yep, a source-less quote certainly makes a terrible adaption all good! Thanks for bring this to our attention.
God bless.
>It took him like a decade to come out with that comeback
He was probably bullied in school.
>They give me what I like
>So I like it
I don't see any problem.
If I put a photo of this kid next to a photo of my brother and I when we were kids, he could pass for our third brother, WTF.
You are the Avatar now
Anon, brother of the Avatar
Seeing the old costume and the new costume side-by-side, I gotta admit... the new one looks way better lmao, you can't even see the arrow on the movie's version
I do like the costume design for the Movie better, despite everything else in that movie being terrible, not that the series' costume design is bad, it looks pretty decent as well.
left looks like a practical outfit someone in the setting would actually wear. right looks like a cosplay edited in photoshop
How does right not fit the setting?
Wasn’t the film partly the fault of executive meddling?
Frick Shyamalan
This is my childhood's Katara
cute
She needs bwc AND bbc
bro
Fug.
She cute
is that her?
ok, I will watch your show netflix...
Vindicated for what? Nothing has changed and his movie is still shit. Both you and the twittergay are morons
>shamalamadingdong makes the costumes not look like the cartoon
>IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE THE CARTOON REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>new guys make the costumes look just like the cartoon
>IT LOOKS TOO MUCH LIKE THE CARTOON REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
It's almost like balancing the old and new is necessary to make a memorable design now.
Basically Kid Muriel meme in a nutshell
While I defiantly prefer the normal airbender tattoo the one in shyamalan's movie was kind of cool.
The tattoo design was the absolute least of the issues that film had
Same for the costumes. The costumes/makeup were about the only things handled decently in that shitpile.
>defiantly
>Some moron on Twitter implies that ackshually shamwow was a visionary because he dressed some white kid from Texas in authentic Chinese peasant rags
Who the frick cares?
I want to bash the head whoever tweeted/reddited that. Kid me wished Shyamalamdingdong's garbage had right's costumes (and actors).
>Fits the setting
Right couldn't fit the setting more because it's literally what he wears IN the setting.
Point is the animated outfit looks stupid IRL. It fits the animated setting, but IRL it looks like a Halloween costume
>real life should look dull
Snyder is that you?
Must every thread have an image from Tw*tter?
People are too dumb to come up with thread subjects that aren't "is this coffee good for you"?
>netflix
They're gonna frick it up somehow.
Lmao
I don't see what's so wrong here, are you only seeing this now?
even the netflix version couldn't just leave the arrow be without adding extra detail. you always have to tread the line between being accurate to the source and not looking like shit in live action. it's why Batman doesn't wear blue underwear, there's no reason for it other than because he did it in the 30's
Aang will always look terrible in live action
What's morons obsession with live action?
Animation is superior in every possible way.
Why DOWNGRADE the show?
Animation is far more expensive.
So you can make your money back and try to reach an audience of complete fricking morons that think animation is exclusively for children but are fine with CGI capeshit.
>Basket ball texture directors were right all along
>Netflix in charge of not racebending an adaptation
>They somehow succeed
No. The costume designer has been vindicated. The movie was still shit.
moron.
>avatar looks like cosplay shit
>one piece looks like cosplay shit
why do you keep supporting this garbage ?
Because I'm not a parasite.
>Live action adaptation of a cartoon looks like cosplay
Say it ain't so
>Cinemaphile whines how cosplay looks better than actual live action shows/movies
>Cinemaphile also whines when live action show costumes look like cosplay
1. Demanding absolute fidelity in a live-action adaption is stupid partly because tons of shit that looks great in animation looks absolutely moronic in live-action.
2. That said, there are changes for the worse. Ultimately they are bad not because they are different, but because they are worse/bad.
3. The writing, acting, directing, and so on all matter far more more than either costume fidelity or costumes being good, I will ignore silly costumes as a part of the setting if those things are good.
4. Shamamanama's shitpile movie was shit all on its own. Even considered on its own not as an adaptation it was totally shit. If anything it was even worse. It was just bad.
5. Even at their very best, the majority of live-action adaptations are pointless and of course they aren't as good as the original. There are some rare exceptions where something like acting or cinematography is so masterful it does seem worth it though. Or actually does something new and worthwhile, I liked some of the (Japanese) Death Note live-action's changes. Even then, it's always up for debate whether people should bother with it unless the original was actually bad and someone salvages it into something great, the issue is most people do not think A:tLA was bad.
I don't think live action was needed, but I wouldn't say no to a version that turns it into a single cohesive narrative instead of a single cohesive narrative peppered with filler and plot-adjacent time wasters, especially in the first half of the series.
You were one of those freaks who like M Nights version?
I feel the same way about Transformers and Dragon Ball evolution
the transformers are aliens and should look unearthly, not like a puzzle toy that contorts into a car, and the whole point of Goku is that he's neither a monkey king, chinese or japanese so yeah he can be a high school loser.
The contrarian levels are too high!
>here's what you saw already
Yes that's the entire fricking point of adapting an already successful work into another media. This isn't the 1958 The Blob that was shit and needed something new its Avatar the Last Airbender one of the most popular cartoons of the past 20 years; your interpretation means jack shit follow the fricking script and if you don't think you can add anything as a result then DON'T FRICKING ADAPT IT
People ITT should get checked for dyslexia because you are acting like the pic in the OP is talking about the movie as a whole instead of just the costume designing, nobody is defending the rest of Shaman Llama's awful movie.
Not really.
The idea that drab and colorless is good is cancer.
Right just looks like a cheap Halloween costume and not real clothing.
Pointless contrarianism, because the Avatar movie butchered every aspect of the culture and flavor of the series and then claimed it was because they were being culturally accurate while having some white kid play a Tibetan monk, more white kids play Inuits, and having Indians play Japanese people, all with the most boring, washed, out, unrealistically bland costumes imaginable, when the actual cultures Avatar was based on had far more brightly colored clothing.
>the actual cultures Avatar was based on had far more brightly colored clothing
And it looks bad being translated from real life to cartoon back to real life.
It looks better than brown and beige run through a piss filter. If the costume department and the film crew can't make the costumes look good, then they shouldn't be making this shit in the first place.
Anons are reaching pretty hard to claim plain earth tones and a shawl are some kind of outrageous cartoon tomfoolery we could never imagine in reality.
>fire benders are japanese
>posts okinawans
>when the actual cultures Avatar was based on had far more brightly colored clothing
you're going off westernized interpretations of eastern cultures and fiction, which OG ATLA is definitely one. a real life Aang would be a regular monk kid wearing drab brown shit robes instead of the elaborate colorful outfit of Netflix Aang.
anon that is a black and white photograph. Buddhist monastic clothing is generally colorful, especially for non-novices, which he was as a recognized master. Tibetans commonly wore deep red and yellow or gold.
>real life Aang would be a regular monk kid wearing drab brown shit robes
Tibetan monks kids didn't wear drab clothes then, and they do not do so now.
I like the myth that people didn't wear bright colors before the 20th century
>has to use a monochrome photo to lie about what color ancient people's clothes were
Tell me anon, what kind of plant is used to dye fabric to make it sepia colored?
>M. Night has finally been vindicated.
no,m frick that Black person
Aang's clothes are the only good thing so far
I agree that the costume and tattoo for M Night Aang looks much better. Cartoon accurate shit often either looks silly or cheap in live action.
The Netflix costumes are a pretty big red flag.
Frankly, I think the idea of a live action Avatar is just a huge waste of money. Who was even pushing for this? At least make it about new characters.
>don’t adapt the thing you are adapting
Why adapt then
Not everything needs to be in live action. This won't be an improvement on the cartoon so why waste my time on it?
Thanks for posting this webm. No way in hell I'm watching this show now
You should probably stop consuming media of any kind of standard instagram marketing makes you cry and shit your pants.
no one cares tumblr homosexual
Aang is a lucky boy
Their Sokka still looks white
For some reason I could see the cast of cartoon Avatar doing the same shit
>Mae Whitman and Dante Basco not getting turnt at the first opportunity
They almost certainly did.
>Dude stop watching that propaganda watch this one instead!!!
I hate peasants so fricking much
What a tweest.
I think the only thing I liked from the Shyamalan movie was the tattoo design
If the background was colourful the costumes would make sense. Its more of a problem with the setting.
I like how the new emphasizes the reddit downvote on the head.
funny how the other day I was just thinking how DBS Superflop proves that Gohan is a shit MC who never really rose to the prominence of Goku.
so I can't help thinking how Evolution vindicates anyone of the opinion that a live action DB need a total reworking. the problem starts with DBZ being the most popular and having to deal with the saiyan saga.
how do you introduce Piccolo?
who's the main character if Goku is dead for the first 2 acts of the movie?
do you just ignore the connections to the previous series like titular dragon balls, the oozaru and the entire supporting cast?
IMO Gohan should be the main character and living up to his father's repution is his arc, but this would mean doing something drastic like having Gohan defeat Vegeta.
for what it's worth I like how Evolution tied Piccolo and Goku's backstories together without fundamentally changing anything. still a saiyan and a namekian.
Goku wasn't dead dead though. He was doing stuff in the afterlife and gets wished back for the final fight. I could see the Saiyan arc working in a movie format. They should just skip og Dragon Ball. Just do a little intro with a narrator to explain what's going on and what happened in Dragon Ball.
Why are all the characters Asians now?
It’s a fictional world. There is no Asia.
Every time there’s an adaptation based on a fictional european style place it’s diverse and has lots of non whites. But this vaguely Asian style place has a 100% Asian cast? Why is that essential?
It's a humiliation ritual preformed by people who feel guilty being born white.
The characters were ALWAYS asian. The whole world was asian in the source material. In case you were unaware, this wasn't some "fantasy past Earth" thing...it was a fantasy past DIFFERENT WORLD. That was not Earth, but it used asian philosophies to explain things, because it's easier to appropriate than to do the heavy lifting and make it all up yourself and have it make sense..
People have mental breakdowns when they change anything about a character in an adaptation, but now it's suddenly wrong when they make them look as close to the original as possible too? Clown world.
hey you STOP right here and drop all your katara's pictures
nice
yes i will
very good
You wont like them..
At least the arrow is blue.
>doesn't fit the setting
What is "the setting" if not the elements that comprise the world it takes place in? That should be the only context that matters.
What would be out of place is if Katara shows up wearing an 80s rock-inspired getup.
His arrow is too dark
>show clearly calls him Aang
>movie says Ong all the time
I'm positive M. Night was fricking with everyone from the get go.
Downside: for a $15m investment they should have just made a few animated movies and most importantly FIXED THE WRITING. the robotic engrish mentions it's going to be a 1:1 with no changes. they should have cut the fluff, condensed it, and refined it down to the heart of the story, which would fix most of the writing issues. but no.
Upside: with all the new fans pouring in, my fic is going to skyrocket in popularity. netfrickups is paying money so I can receive more kudos cummies.
I hate how the shitty cash-in style of live action anime adaptations where everyone is just in bad cosplay with TV special pacing is slowly just becoming how you do live action adaptations.
honestly Ms just needed the cowl and maybe brighten the clothes/tattoo a bit
While I am never going to watch any live action garbage, I do want to inform everyone in this thread that I wanna breed Toph.
Thanks for keeping me posted anon
The animated version will always be definitive and I truly wish we'd stop seeing people think
>live action superior always to animated
being a thing. It isn't a step up. It never is.
It started with manga to anime and comics to movie adaptations in the west. People have begun to refuse the idea that the original is the actual definitive version
It wasn't the costume that people took issue with
No
>White kid looks more like aang than the Asian kid
Asian bros…
Nah. Also, I think they fricked up going by the character's actual age. Aang was lanky and somewhat tall for his supposed age. These kids are small and stubby. Noah Ringer looked like a damn TODDLER, and this new kid looks 10. Cast call for a LANKY kid, go up to 13-15 if you have to. "A kid martial artist the same age as the character" doesn't work. Real kids that age still look like large toddlers, not lean, slim twigs like Aang did.
If you can't make the original version of something look good, you're the fricking problem. Trying to use someone's amateur attempt as justification for the dogshit you squat out? LOL, GTFO.
Literally all they need to do is have bending better than whatever this is
Well.... And get rid of the white people and indians
Unironically more soulful than whatever Netflix will give us
I don't understand how they completely misunderstood the problem people had with the movie. It wasn't the aesthetics, it was... pretty much everything else.
Also Sokka and Katara still aren't brown wtf.
>original outfit
It's a beige shirt and beige pants you could find that look at the fricking mall.
