                >James Cameron doesn't care about Avatar
Didn't see that one coming, did ya?

He doesn't care about the fricking story. Doesn't care about the canon. Cameron only uses Avatar as a vehicle to do what he loves most: create new film technology. And peawiener (brag about it).

Honestly it doesn’t seem like it would have been hard to write a more interesting story with what was already there. They establish early that Dani is somehow indispensable to the car factory, unlike her brother. A better twist would have been that her engineering skills are vital in some way in the future, maybe she’s the one who invented the process that turns injured soldiers like Grace into cyborgs. It would have been an interesting twist that in the changed future there isn’t any one lynchpin like John Connor, but rather a series of people who collectively are invaluable to the human resistance.

That half a meter tall mexic**t was literally replacing John Connor as the last hope of humanity against Skynet.

It wasn't Skynet. It was an entirely different AI. It was their way of showing that Judgement Day is inevitable, because even if you erase all traces of Skynet some other form of AI will make the same shit happen, causing some other person to become the leader who nearly wipes it out, at which point it will use time travel as a last ditch attempt to try and change the past just enough to survive. Skynet "won" by killing John Connor but the timeline had been changed too much, causing Skynet to never become a thing, erasing it and allowing some other AI to take its place.

At least it was a more interesting take than any movie since T2. Although if I was to ever make a Terminator movie I'd simply adapt one of the comic stories that's about another woman called Sarah Connor who gets targeted by a Terminator, since Skynet had no records to tell them which Sarah was the right one. Frick all the friendly terminator shit and upgraded Terminators, just have a human have to run from and fight an unstoppable robot.

I haven't watched that movie, so I can't tell, but I crave for a strong female character who is not afraid of being feminine. Why is it so hard for modern writers to let women be women, to let women embrace their femininity and be proud of it while being tough?

What if I told you these films weren't made to make women stronger, they're made to make men weaker. If you feed all the youths a steady diet of "women are stronger, smarter, tougher and don't need your help" they're less likely to stop a woman from being raped on a subway because, obviously she can take care of herself.

They dont turn them into men. They turn them into annoying women who pretend theyre strong but arent. Ever man can just look at the way the girls hold their hands or arms during a fight and can see its not realistic or a strong position. its so obvious shes faking strong and its annoying.

Characters like Ripley are more popular because shes a woman with some feminine charm but not necessarily pretty but she has value in that shes capable of dealing with aliens. Shes the reliable woman thing which men like.

Yes because this is the only way a woman can be interesting. It was the same thing with Ripley, The Bride, Sarah Connor etc.

I don't get it. What was wrong with Ripley or Sarah Connor? Ripley got instantly attached to Noot (or however you spell it) and got all maternal while Sarah Connor basically gave up whatever life she would have wanted so that she could lay the groundwork for John after getting knocked up. Being a mom is like half their characters. I don't remember Kill Bill very well. It's not like they shaved their heads and started cross-dressing either. What did you want them to do, run around getting into gunfights with robots and aliens in high heals and ball gowns or some shit? I'd be down for that, actually. That’s the real problem with it, every time it hints at some interesting new idea, it gets scared and runs back to clutching T2’s coattails. Ultimately the only interesting thing they did was kill John Connor as a teenager, which they promptly wasted by having no good followup on that decision.

3 stinks but has an arguably kino ending, that's all though
4 is ultimately just boring, very obviously suffered from severe rewrites

6 is like an insufferably self-serious and tedious attempt at doing things 5 already did and it doesn't do them better

Ripley in Alien and Sarah Connor in T2 are the perfect example of a feminine action hero
while the male archetype is defeating the enemy through direct confrontation and physical prowess, the female archetype is overcoming the enemy through intellectual cunning and sheer determination to resist and survive
both Ripley and Connor overcome their obstacles through the feminine drive to stay alive at any cost, while protecting those that depend on them the most
that's what differentiates the male and female archetypes, the male will sacrifice his life to protect what he deems most important, whereas the female will do their best to survive at any cost to preserve life
this is what feminists don't understand (worse, they have chosen to deny) and this is why modern female action heroes do not resonate with the audience

        Anonymous

Sarah Connor is a strong female protagonist you're right and in T1 and T2 they did it perfect, T1 she had to grow into being strong at the end of the movie, and T2 she was perfect
T2 they made her strong without it coming at the expense of the male protagonist, that's the problem with Genisys was it made "pops" comical and made Kyle Reese look inept and incapable. Dark Fate kinda did the same route, make the female protagonists strong at "old decrepit Carl"'s expense.

          Anonymous

          >made Kyle Reese look inept and incapable.
This was actually the one good idea in Gynosis.
Kyle has spent his whole life being prepared for this event where his skills, determination, compassion, and values save the human race, but when he actually gets there, there's no place for him.

This is correct. In current year the utterly talentless writers that plague Hollywood think that strong female protagonist is the most toxic male imaginable. And everyone except lowlifes and the mentally ill instinctively dislike that personality.

Genisys and Dark Fate had Schwarzeneggar in them, Salvation's the one that didn't (just a CGI face swap)
It's just that Arnie was both times relegated to being "outdated" and "obsolete" and mostly just support while a female character was the real hero.
Modern movies that want to portray a strong woman always do it at the expense of any male characters. That's the fricked up part. That's why T2 was perfect, neither Arnie nor Sarah were badass at the other's expense. They were side by side working together to protect John.

I really fricking hate every Terminator after the 2nd one.

Though I do appreciate Salvation for actually showing us what the future was like and how living in a world with Terminators absolutely sucks balls. They should've just had John Connor as a cameo in the end instead of being part of the main plot and just Marcus going around with Kyle Reese and Star. Marcus is the perfect audience self-insert since he remembers what the world was like before the apocalypse and he's trying to make sense of the post-apocalyptic hellscape he's in. Not to mention come to terms that he was turned into a cyborg.

Shit even the Sarah Connor Chronicles isn't as bad as Genisys and Dark Fate. And T3 sucked balls too.

Thank you anon, that's my feelings exactly, and I think we might be the only two people here who don't hate Salvation. Actually that's my canon trilogy: T1, T2, Salvation. Everything else does not exist.
Shame about Anton, I'd have liked to see future installments and seeing his character arc and turning from a boy into a gritty manly man.

LOL I train with a female world champion half my age and can kick the shit out of her easier than the average guy with two years of experience. The whole idea that "Ronda Rousey would beat your ass" is laughable. There have only been two female fighters with punching power that approaches a male's, Cyborg and Nunes, and what happened when they connected with other women's heads?

    >We did not trade certain gender traits for others
that's literally what modern "feminism" is in addition to shitting all over traditional femininity which they view as weakness.

Did you really just repost something from more than 4 years ago? Why? What did you gain from this?

She only manages to fulfill her mission because Arnie`s T800 and Sarah Connor did all the heavy lifting though.
