Madame web (2024)

What the frick is up with that stupid trend of making movies about literal-fricking-who characters from some obscure animated spiderman series from the early 90's? Like who the frick even knows who Morbius or Madame web are? Are those people really that fricking desperate for ideas? What's next, Beyonder getting his own movie too, or some another no-name villain of the week?

Well I did watched it, and even enjoyed it. It's just that it's weird that they are suddenly making movies bout those characters. Is this guy getting his own origin story too?

I think the time passed for these movies being cool. Tobey Maguire was cool. Andrew Garfield sort of. The next guy, the movies start getting worse even though they look good. They are beating a dead horse but somehow people must be taking their kids to it. This one looks like it could almost be a coomer show. The casting is SUS

    Pretty simple.

I don't think it matters if the character is known or not. Isn't that most movies? It's on the writers to write a good enough story that makes people want to know who the character is & know more about them. That seems pretty basic.
If the movie is written well, made well, acted well, it will do well. Doesn't matter what it's based off of really.

I think the executives think they're of the same caliber as something like The Guardians of the Galaxy or Deadpool. To them anything that's not Spider-Man, Superman or Batman is an unproven entity and they think if Iron Man can kickstart a multi-billion dollar franchise that went on for more than a decade why can't Morbius do the same?

Because it was a POS carried entirely by the meme factor?

    >What's next, Beyonder getting his own movie too,
Oh nice try. You're so cute. You almost had me.

Sydney Sweeney's character pictured is the Spider-Woman whose 1st appearance was Secret Wars #7. It's the story of The Beyonder whose 1st appearance qas Secret Wars #1

OP is playing dumb. For some reason. Although as to Madame Web I couldn't say other than they are absolutely desperate for female characters. And not necessarily as a result of there not being a lot. Which I'm not sure is even true. I just think the demand is there.

Lol? I am not playing dumb. I literally only found out about those characters when I first watched re-runs of that series in the early 00's, and then forgot about them entirely. And despite your silly nitpicking, the point of my post remains the same. 90% of the people first found about about Morbius or madam web from the animated series.

Oh that's a really interesting coincidence then. Because that's what's happening. The movie Madame Web is part of the set up to Secret Wars. Spider-Woman is too much of a coincidence right now. I assume they've got something cooking to get Spiderman too or whoever they want dead or alive. Because thats the plot of Secret Wars. The Beyonder pulls all these characters from different worlds both dead and alive.

      >And not necessarily as a result of there not being a lot. Which I'm not sure is even true.
Marvel's biggest challenge for decades was having a notable female hero who wasn't a genderswap of a male hero (She-Hulk) and wasn't part of a team (Storm, Invisible Woman, etc). In order to have their own "Wonder Woman", Marvel had to create one, ironically by genderswapping a male hero (Captain Marvel). And since they've exhausted all options, Sony is resorting to using female Spider heroes, because they have nothing else.
      >I just think the demand is there.
If you're talking about a demand from the audience, you're wrong. But there is definitely a demand from executives to push more female-led movies

Licensing. They have some kind of use it or lose it clause in the contract

This is a very good point, and might actually be the real reason.

People keep bringing this up, but seem to neglect how many of these movies Sony is pumping out. The Venom films alone would satisfy any contractual obligation to release non-MCU "Spiderman" movies. Yet this year alone, they're dumping out Madam Web, Kraven and Venom 3.

What I really want to see, is the movie set in the Cyberpunk world of Spider Man unlimited. Would be kino.

Hopefully. There's the Secret Wars reboot from about a decade ago. So they could very well do that. I'm thinking it's gonna be a pretty good mix though. Hopefully. I'm hoping it's at least a mix and that's what Spider-Woman seems to indicate. Although not by much. She very randomly shows up so that could easily happen in either. I do know they recently paid Jim Shooter $10,000 though. He's the creator of the original Secret Wars.

      >Beyonder is next big mcu villain

The interesting thing is that in the animated series he wasn't even villain. More like a 'chaotic neutral' akin to Uatu watcher, who wanted to see villains and heroes from earth duke it out.

Again, the animated series, unsurprisingly, used the characterisation from the comics.
Beyonder pits heroes v villains, then comes to Earth to learn what being human is.

Thats one of the many reasons I think they'd have to be stupid not to do this one. And Marvel Studios just paid Jim Shooter $10,000. They'd get this amazing sequel and all kinds of stuff. Why the frick would they do the new one by John HickmannI think it was the creator of Walking Dead. Although probably not a coincidence I loved the zombie story with Black Widow. And the Russo Brothers or whatever even said they absolutely refuse to do the new one.

Because Sony has to make them to keep the Spider-Man rights.

Also Venom was successful with normalgays so they are hoping these will be too.
