How the FRICK did they botch it this bad? This studio has decades of experience making these types of movies, and then they went and made the opposite. It almost feels like it was on purpose.

I know they screwed up. But how is it an antithesis?

      Anonymous

It's the opposite of why people enjoy Disney princess musicals. The villain seems justified, our heroine comes across as selfish, the animal sidekick provides no heart or moral compass and is just annoying, most of the songs are forgettable, our heroine's song is a feet-stomping rebellion chant while our villain's song is an upbeat tune, there is no love story, and the "storybook ending" is very weird and confusing. Why the frick is our hero allowed to grant wishes but not Magnifico?

  6. 1 month ago
    Anonymous

It's kind of astonishing how inept the film is.
Good songs can carry a lot of terrible plot points but they got a random pop musician with no track record with musical theater.
People crave an old fashioned Disney villain - well they treat Magnifico like he is but in the story he's blatantly got a point and many find him more sympathetic then the lead.
Hell the movie itself LOOKS bad - people who know nothing/don't care about animation note how off it looks. It's kind of a fascinating bad. How could Disney think this would play well especially when so many people just wait for their movies on Disney+ these days?

      >Magnifico like he is but in the story he's blatantly got a point and many find him more sympathetic then the lead.
No, MCU villains "got a point" then go full moron due to plot so the hero can be in the end, Magnifico was literally right about everything, he made an utopia, he stopped dangerous wishes, he made the world objectivelly better while Aisha got rid of him for her insane free magic wishes for all even crazy and evil people plan.

So her wishes are granted by djinn whose souls are made of fire and will damn her to Hell for using their magic? Neat.

Hetero romance in MY modern Disney movie? Frick out of here with that shit. I still subscribe to the theory that the starboy was supposed to be explicitly nonbinary so that WDAS can claim the first nonbinary romance shown, and Disney executives said no to the nonbinary part, so they just scrapped the entire romance as a frick-you to Disney.

This is exactly the type of film that happens when you want to appease shareholders who want unlimited quarterly gains and have them call the shots instead of making a film that is quality built to still be a seller for decades
This is the most corporate boardroom envisioned film imaginable and no wonder it then appealed to no one in the real world

We'll see at the next shareholder proxy vote.

Peltz is almost a caricature of a stereotypical amoral corporate dude himself, but he's asking basic questions that Disney is choosing not to address about the creative direction that really aren't pure accounting shit.

Emerson Collective on the other hand is absolutely on the ideology above quarterly profits side and they're team Iger.

And the Blackwell capital people are opposed to Iger AND peltz and are 100 percent soulless investing.

      >Disney
      >trying to appease shareholders
All their main shareholders are angry at them for making clearly doomed projects no one but they like while they are all doubling down on changing nothing, just like WB.

      It's actually a split.

      Last check

      Iger

      The current board.
      JP morgan
      Glass lewis

      Peltz

      Trian fund management of course.
      ISS Institutional Shareholder Service

Nope, the shareholders are dumbasses who are voting to extend Iger’s contract and not give board seats out because he’s their golden boy who lets them call the shots

Technical point. It's not the shareholders themeslves but the institutional investors who are absolutely more insulated from the performance of the stock. You're right in that they did pick Iger over Chapek, but until Peltz they really didn't have an alternative direction.

Why do these scrapped concepts look so much better than the final film? Usually "what could have been" deleted scenes/storylines are interesting but you could see why they were left out. With these it's simply inexplicable.

Jennifer Lee and her are of woke underqualified DEI hires killed Disney animation. I honestly wouldn't mind about the woke hiring policy if they hired wokes with actual talent instead of just focusing on hiring based off race and sexuality with no regards for any talent they may or may not have. The fact that Jennifer Lee and the entire team behind Wish hasn't been shitcanned yet is proof we will be getting more of the same for the next decade.
