Dude it's not more lethal than any weapons firebenders had even during Aang's time, I only see non-benders using them and failing each time just like Mai's whole knives arsenal was nearly useless.
Guns exist, they're just never show in a scene because of the child rating of the show. There's rules for guns in the canon tabletop RPG Avatar Legends.
