I remember 90% of my parents' vocab being SNL/random comedy show quotes (including this exact one). I've gone back and watched a lot of them assuming there was some hilarious context behind them but it's always like this where it's just some sentence spoken in an unusual way that's apparently hilarious. Are boomers autistic?
yeah all the "SNL used to actually be funny decades ago!" people are either full or shit or havent watched those old episodes since they were teenagers, go ahead and watch the so called "golden years" now, theyre almost as bad as the modern years. shit was never funny outside of Norm on Weekend Update

Was a difference in attitude. Everyone wasn't a bitter and cynical piece of shit so you could have someone like Farley come on and be zany and get some laughs

Based. I'm a relatively late enjoyer to Norm (couple years before he died) because of the stigma of ex-SNLers in my mind because to be fair how many of them actually go on to not do awful movies and failed network shows but he was way too good for that shit

>what if we had a semi-decent joke >or not even a joke, just an actor goofing around in a funny costume >and then we stretched it out to like 5 minutes so it wasn't funny anymore >and then we did this for like 2 hours
The late 80-early to mid 90s era definitely overrelied on catchphrases, but I still thought the performers were generally good enough to make the sketches work anyway. Plus they had one writer in Jack Handey who did a lot of the wall stuff.
You’re sick of the thread, ehhhh? This thread it just-a go on and on. The same whining about 90s SNL everyone always-a makes.
I end-a the thread for you
i think richmeister in partiuclar was the SNL sketch EVERYONE was imitating in the 90s. i vaugely remember adults doing it when i was a kid and not realizing what it was until years later when seeing the 90s SNL reruns on Comedy Central in the early 2000s. even rewatching Mighty Ducks recently the nerdy kid with the glasses starts doing it, i had the subtitles on during it, and the CC said [imitating Rob Schneider: Goldberg! The Goldman! The Goldmeister] or whatever the frick
would expect nothing less from this boomer CHUD who is apparently stuck in the last century with his views on comedy, doesnt he realize its fricking 2022 and he still thinks like?? wow.... just wow... shaking my damn head.. unreal... what a wrongheaded way of thinking

IN A VAN... DOWN BY THE RIVER!
you like-ah the juice eh?
SNL really was 99% just catchphraes most the time without any actual jokes
Unironically. SNL has been unfunny cringe for 99% of its run.

>late 80s-early 90s
in all almost 50 years of SNL, that was the only good era, mostly because of Carvey and Hartman
Hartman, Norm, Dana Carvey, Eddie Murphy and Chris Farley are the only funny people to ever be on SNL as far as im concerned
That's a young Jennifer Aniston doing the promo with Phil Hartman for "ED McMan's Party Machine". Looks like she hasn't had her nose job yet.
holy shit is that actually her? does look like her seen that sketch a billion times and never noticed
The real joke here is the racist mustaches

in this sketches case theyre making fun of the typical SNL catchphrase characters. similar to the I WANNA DIP MY BALLS IN IT! skeches on the state
Gyros written by Smigel who years later made a good TV Funhosue cartoon for SNL based on SNL characters catchphrases
The ending with Lovitz “YEAH THATS THE TICKET!” Is kinda sad lel

CAN I DIP MY BALLS IN IT?
LOUIS?
I watched a comedy show of his a few months ago, AMA
What did you eat for dinner the night you watched it?
I had some fries and beer at the comedy show, but I forgot what I ate later that night
I could go for some fries and a beer right now.
You like-a the juice, ah?
