Malcolm in the Middle

It's kind of crazy how Bryan Cranston went from giving maybe the best sitcom performance ever to only a couple of years later giving one of the best dramatic performances ever. Like, I thought it'd be hard to go back to Malcolm in the Middle and believe Cranston as a comedy actor after BB, but he's so convincing as Hal that now I forget he would go on to be Walter White. What a hell of an actor.
But also, Malcolm in the Middle thread. I love this show so much. Ultra comfy early 2000s vibes overload.

    MITM> Breaking Bad

Both are great but Hal is a marginally better performance.

But breaking bad was a comedy. The show was goofy as frick and like a live action looney tunes

      *squints*
*turns head slightly and opens mouth*
You mean this ISN'T the greatest performance of all time???

      >he sucked balls as walter white.
Only in S5A when he turned into a comic book villain. S5 should've been him repenting and desperately trying to protect his family from all the mayhem he'd caused and enemies he would have undoubtedly made (cartel, other meth dealers in USA etc.)

I disagree, I think he should have gone further in the opposite direction and fully commited to being a wannabe druglord kingpin and become much more evil. I was disappointed with how mild his villainy was.

The I'm the one who knocks bit is cringe, same with stay out of my territory, or say my name, or anything making him appear intimidating, especially when you knew he was at a hair's length of fricking it all up.
I only liked the this isn't meth one because it was cool, but in most cases he would have been murdered for being an unhinged egotistical shitter

That classic episode where Dewey gets caught smoking and Hal says they're better when they're fresh.
Also, instead of Dewey being a regular smoker they turned him into a pole smoker. RIP

Cranston's best dramatic performances are also in MITM. The show allowed him to explore in a great way

What's even crazier is that Cranston made his acting bones doing dub voice work for the monsters/villains in all the Saban hero shit

I'm rewatching MotM, and honestly Francis feels like the main character. We follow his story of adulthood in a pretty episodic format and actually watch him grow as a person, whereas Malcom's just going to school like everyone else his age

I'm doing a full series watch for the first time and I'm near the end of season 3 and I thought I was the only one that really liked Francis and wanted to see his storylines more than anyone else. I got the vibe from reading about the show that his stories were disliked because of how "disconnected" they are but to me he felt like the most relatable character (maybe because he was the closest in age to me) and had the most actual progression in his characterisation. Also helps that Spangler is the most entertaining character in the entire series.

I feel the same way, but that's because I travel around the country for work.
When he met Otto and actually repayed his kindness rather than just take advantage of him, I realized just how much he had grown. Then later he delivers Jamie after a life time of hating his mother.

            >35
            >lower class household in an upper middle class town
            >4 boys that’s constantly burn things down, go to the hospital frequently and get brought in by the police
            >works full time at Shartmart as a shelf stocker
            >manchild dad/husband who barely if ever controls anything in the house
            >Oh no! She doesn’t look 22 years old and she yelled at them for getting food on the couch! What an ugly b***h!
I love Hal, but from experience as a husband it’s a pain in the ass to be the only one yelling at everyone to keep their shit together. This show also realty points out how old the audience watching is without them knowing. For example the Francis lovers are clearly between 14-20. If you hate Louis, you clearly have never had kids or boys and are probably <28

I think every character is an annoying butthole in some way, but as a 26 year old I relate to Francis the most, especially since my parents still constantly judge and criticise every single thing I do just because.

You need to grow out of that anon and you should in about 4 years when you realize you shouldn’t give a shit about what your parents think, or anyone for that matter. First admit you actually care what they think of you because deep down you think they somehow have it “figured out” then accept that no one in this world knows what the frick they are doing, not even your parents. Instead of focusing on your mom telling you you need to lose weight or get out of the house or be productive, imagine that when she was your age, she was probably told by her parents she was too young/old to have a kid and then any time you did anything wrong they probably told her it was her fault. If she never accepted they didn’t know what they were talking about, she’s probably passing that to you, who will either die alone or have kids and pass it on. I guarantee if you get past that (it’s not easy) it’ll be one less hurdle to deal with in your every day life.

Francis was sent away at like 16. We know Hal had a good job so he was educated which means they probably had him around 25. Which makes her roughly 41 at the start of the show. Pay attention you dumb frick.

Face blindness, or prosopagnosia, is a condition that can be acquired through a brain injury, but it is also closely associated with developmental disorders like autism. About 40% of people with autism have prosopagnosia symptoms.

Research into the extent of these symptoms shows that face blindness is more associated with social identification and communication problems when someone with autism has this condition. People with only prosopagnosia may also struggle to understand distance or angles, recognize objects or places, or understand navigation — none of which has to do specifically with human faces. People with autism and face blindness together can still recognize landmarks, but they struggle with faces and body language.

Support groups for both autism and prosopagnosia can help you find people with similar struggles, so you can get social support. Behavior therapy is the leading approach to treating autism. A therapist may be able to help someone with prosopagnosia develop coping mechanisms so they can eventually recognize people more often.
