      looks better than the reboot

yeah i didnt know he was an artist at all. it's rare to be both.

The reboot was so bad it completely killed my love of the original series.
That fricking gnome skit, I swear.
This is something you should see on a D tier Disney skit show, not Animaniacs.

this is why mental compartmentalization is important. i would not still have my sanity if i let the shittier new versions of shows ruin the good old versions.

      This.

The art style of the WB shows he headed, except for Freakazoid (famously a Bruce Timm creation taken over primarily by Animaniacs people) and Road Rovers (which had a slightly more comic bookey look) were just creatively safe takes on the general WWII-era onwards Looney Tunes art style and, except for Histeria!, he never seemed to have much a hand on things like the art direction or character designs (offloading that to other people). Also, unlike Butch Hartman, he never defined the look of his cartoons as his own style, leading to an embarrassing situation of the creator not being able to draw their supposed signature style well.

At least the Gnome was an attempt at something new. Cindy & Starbox was literally just Mindy & The Brain, except without any funny in it.

Yeah that's what pissed me off so much. They cut down their original cast by 90% and replace them with:
-cringy 'lol so random' Disney XD humor
        -Buttons and Mindy knockoff.
-And TWO cameos from one of the most hated characters of the original series
And even the skits with the OG Warner siblings were terrible. Even without the forced political jokes something about them was just not clicking. I can't put my finger on it.

          >And TWO cameos from one of the most hated characters of the original series
Was he actually, though? I have never heard of people hating Chicken Boo until the reboot. Maybe he wasn't people's #1 favorite, but the most hated? When the Hip Hippos were in the cast? At least Chicken Boo had a joke in his cartoons. The Hippos were just... rich and stupid, I guess? I've honestly heard more people b***h about Katie Kaboom than Chicken Boo.

Maybe not THE most hated, but he still wasn't well liked. I'd say he's about tied with Katie as the worst segment Animaniacs ever had.
But even then, bringing him back over Goodfellas? Or Slappy? or Rita and Runt? That was a horrible decision.

See, the thing is, I think there was some higher up in Hulu that specifically said "Chicken Boo is dumb and I don't like him and as long as I am in charge he will not be part of the Animaniacs revival," so bringing Boo back in the hunter episode was specifically a 'frick you' to him. But really, what they should have done was just bring everyone back (at least the good ones) after the hunter episode on a permanent basis. For frick's sake, at the start of the hunter episode the Warners themselves point out how boring the show is without the other characters around to add variety.

That's a great idea. Have them gone for two episodes, then bring them back.
That idea is infinitely better than the gnome and the blatant Buttons and Mindy ripoff.

They didn't bring the other characters back because they didn't like them, the reboot writers said they didn't like the original Animaniacs.
But since they ruined the five characters they did bring back (Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Pinky, and Brain - some people will say that the Pinky and the Brain parts were good, but that is a total lie, because they were also shit) thank god they at least didn't ruin Slappy and the other cut characters, like they did all of the characters they did bring back. It was a blessing in disguise for them, really.

A lot of animation directors and leads don’t actually work on “ finished” art all that much.

    >Tom Ruegger’s art skills have declined heavily
The frick are you talking about? He wouldn't be the lead artist anyway so how the hell would that effect anything? He would write episodes and be an executive but what the hell does art have to do with anything
