MANIC PIXIE DREAM GRILS

Are MPDGs an authentic artistic expression of young male romance and misplaced desire for female idealization, or a tired screenwriting trope that negates character agency and relates women (and the actresses that play them) to an unfulfilling one-dimensional stereotype?

There are more films "subverting" the manic pixie dream girl than those that play it straight. The highest-grossing MPDG is Jack in Titanic, revealing the loe that the trope is in sexist in the first place.

bretty cool but kind of terrifying that jung is really beginning to pick up. he's gonna get misread by a bunch of halfwits.
vonfranz talks about it too, but with more butthurt and jealousy.
      >an unfulfilling one-dimensional stereotype
The movies always show that the men are projecting when the women turn out to be just as shitty as anyone.

Is it "unfulfilling relegation" to allow male directors to express honest truths regarding our relationships with you? Maybe.
And maybe that's why more and more movies are doing the exact opposite and the only men who are allowed to complain are socially castrated anonymous types, such that increasingly it's women with savior complexes going on youtube and making videos """""""""""""for us"""""""""""" expressing """"""""""""""our opinions"""""""""""""" and offering """"""""""""""revealing advice"""""""""" addressing our situation

        >Just like when men see better looking men
men don’t get jealous and try to tear down better looking men, that’s a female quality. they admire or look up to the man.
the closest you’ll come to that attitude in men is short men hating on tall men. But that’s also because of women.

          Anonymous

Thats really not true. My friend (well, not anymore) was competitive as shit, hated and talked shit behind other guys' back when they'd get something that he didn't have/couldn't afford and talked shit about me when he'd see me talking to a girl (even platonically) while he wouldn't even be attracted to her himself. And there's plenty of other guys like him when you look around. I think that the difference is that men base all this petty shit to fighting and competing for a crumb of pussy, while women just bring each other down for even the most trivial shit. Also men have each others backs unless it comes to women, women hate each other but have each others backs when it comes to men (in the sense of a man doing or saying shit about women)

MPDG is just using your autism to attract people.
Trust me, I know how it works as I am autistic.
I also had an autistic ex who had an obsession with me. She was more of a frustrated incel than someone who wants to be an MPDG.

We eventually had to broke up because she couldn't handle a long-distance relationship. And she was super jealous of me getting to college well before her.

whats the big deal about this again? that they're made up caricatures? couldn't you say the same for john wayne or don draper.

it's all symbiotic. people make fake characters and then people watch those characters and emulate some of the traits and then more fake characters are based off of those people.

this is so obvious. why is so much theory and academia and journalism around tv and movies so utterly stupid

I think these people are just bored and looking to put their degree to use. I took a class about sex in college and we read papers by people with PhD trying to explain their fetishes in some intellectual way. It couldn't just be that they just enjoy being spanked or something it had to be a commentary of society.

let's see how dimensional male characters are in female romance/sex media. When are we gonna start calling out women saying shit like that?

Just look at the whole ick thing
There are apparently women who get triggered by shit like
      >Being born in summer
      >Being photographed near a printer
      >Waiting in line
      >Having feelings
      >The fact you were mugged by three guys and could not single handedly beat all of them to death
      >The way your body moves in a car crash
The lasts one are unavoidable without being a superhero
Probably it's another fake internet psyop, but sadly some morons will start to imitate it
Even characters who are ''one dimensional male power fantasies'' have more nuance than this''ideal man''
      >Conan
      >007
      >Rambo
Most of these show some emotion and get tortured at some point in the movie

          Yes that's the point
So called ''unrealistic'' male fantasies (Be it the MPDG or the action hero) are more nuanced than what these women want
          >literally none of these are female fantasies.
To be fair i do have a relative who likes 007 (She's older than me so maybe less insane than those ''ick'' zoomers); one of her favorite movies is actually the one with the ball torture scene

The ick thing is just an excuse for women to reject "good men" they are not attracted to. These are specifically things that are unavoidable because it allows the excuse to apply to any man regardless of his merit. This allows them to avoid admitting to their nature while acting accordingly to it, thus saving face. No woman wants to outright say she's shallow and only looking for chad dick. But she will use "the ick" and other constructs to do it subversively while appearing innocent.
Naive men see this and think women are just soooo irrational, such mysterious creatures - truly beyond understanding. But the behavior is very obvious to anyone paying attention

          photgraphed near a printer
          https://twitter.com/chelseaeliza__/status/1314880858109743104

          https://citygirlnetwork.com/magazine/the-ick

          >My own personal experiences of the Ick have included a man who told me ‘I prefer the view from back here’ and stared at my arse instead of the stunning landscape in front of us; and another one who dumped me so he could play Pokemon Go. Ok, that wasn’t even Ick, it was just pure embarrassment.

So I asked the world if they have experienced the dreaded Ick… And 89.6% of those surveyed said yes.

The main bulk of people’s Icks were completely harmless qualities, hobbies or even dietary requirements; ‘they clapped weirdly’; ‘they said I had nice back skin’; ‘they were gluten-free’.

          >After reading through 135 different people’s Icks, from those who are male, female and non-binary, I have come to the conclusion we all have Icks. So next time you’re repulsed by your partner planting a vegetable patch, or de-jamming a printer, don’t feel bad: it’s all a part of life.

Icks are real and as a man I've gotten them. It's just your subconscious telling you that the person you have a minor crush on or the one you're dating isn't attractive to you. I got the ick once from a girl because she said she loved candy. If I truly, genuinely liked this person it'd be a cute quirk, but because I didn't like her it turned into an ick, see?

Literally the only reason MPDGs ever got flack is because they are a male fantasy that doesn't revolve around the male being of service to the female. Men aren't allowed to expect to be made happy by the women they date, only to dream about how to best serve them.

    >she has 15 different social media accounts that she uses to advertise herself and maintain parasocial relationships with men
    >across them there are at least 20 beta orbiters and potential boyfriends that she has on standby
    >at least a couple of "close" male friends that text her in the middle of the night about how cool she is
    >all her female friends are single or "single" and keep telling her how cool their single life is
    >all of the social media, entertainment media and her friends are essentially brainwashing her 24/7 into thinking a stable long-term relationship is not viable and not fashionable
    >is likely seeing a therapist for who knows what and is likely on some mood-altering medication already
    >continuous flight impulse to escape somewhere else, move to another part of the city, another city, another state, another country that will almost never materialize but that you have to constantly indulge
    >anything goes wrong and her beta orbiters, female friends and rando men she finds on the spot will tell her she's amazing and you're an butthole for not agreeing with her
    >you can literally go to sleep and in the morning she'll greet you with the information that some dude she met online at 3AM is amazing and they ended up talking all night

what gets me is that in the generation of our parents our moms and dads had different interests, probably listened to different music, liked different movies and were essentially different people that got into a relationship that completed them and they had a partner that brings something new in their life and they didn't have to agree on everything.

In today's world of sociopathic narcissists your music tastes need to align up, your movie tastes need to align up, every single thing needs to align up and if it doesn't it will bother her until she bugs out.
That's because she doesn't want you to be yourself, she wants you to be her and even if you were, she'd hate you for it as well.

      Anonymous

Wanting your tastes to align is not unrealistic. If I'm going to spend my whole life with one girl, she literally has to be perfect. I will settle for nothing less. Why on earth would I marry someone who doesn't click with me on absolutely everything?
Also, if I want to go stargazing or a park on a Friday night and she wants to go to "da club" and get wasted, those aren't just "minor differences," those are legitimate spiritual differences. Finding common ground is not possible when souls are that far apart.

    Depends. Who's doing the analysis?

  29. 8 months ago
    Anonymous

This is why the entire term is bullshit feminism meant to spread strife and argumentation: In all storytelling characters are functions that serve a purpose. If the story needs a love interest to serve a subservient function then that is simply what must be done for the story to be effective. In female targeted romance stories, the man is a cardboard cutout trophy or domineering creep but this is what women want so we dont complain because its just for that story that the man is perceived this way. In reality that would lead to unrealistic expectations but its a fantasy, a story. The same is true for "manic pixie dream girl" and the real intent going on here is to subvert gender roles by only attacking male focused stories and, through intellelectual argumentation, claiming a woman cannot serve a subservient story function because this is sexist to real womem in the real world. The problem being, a character who was not meant to have agency must now be forced into the plot where its unnatural in the name of equality. Women can have sexist fantasy stories and men can too, that is equality.

      Anonymous

I have seen people complain about male depictions that way though, but it is certainly less common. But it always seems to come off more like "girls like it when John Cusack stands in the rain with a boombox to make me hear his mixtape but when I did it they called me a creep and got a restraining order".
