I'd say it's THE best in recent years. Not every episode was a gem (Fly Away, Sick Mao, Scared of Puppets) but the average episode was way better than the average episode of any other cartoon that was airing at the time. And now.
No but that's life, even with what it got it got better then what some shows got.
But I think CN will regret this one, it was the first boy-oriented show on CN in ages and they only canned it because it didn't fit their tumblr shit
it's funny because CN panders to woman but then they go off and make a statement saying "girls graduate from animation" and piss a majority of their audience off. Now no one wants to watch their network, especially now that they're going back to making live action shows, and by cancelling mao mao they got rid of their boy audience too.
>Now no one wants to watch their network
Please, a statement on Twitter isn't going to stop the core demographic of the network from using TV, all the other factors that are killing cable will.
Execs are replaced like they're going out of style (which most of them are), and end up scrapping everything just to go two steps back, or reinvent the wheel. Everytime they contradict themselves is because Suit #whogivvashit was replaced by another Suit, who wants to show it to the last guy and prove they're better by scrapping and remodeling everything the last guy approved of. I forgot how long an executive's shelf life is, but its way too short.
>they only canned it because it didn't fit their tumblr shit
Imagine thinking that a corporation would make decisions based on ideals.
Shows are a commodity. If they bring money in, they stay. If they lose money, they die. On very rare occasions an exec might decide to keep a show on life support to artificially keep the heart beating if it's something they're particularly keen on, but most decisions come down to dollars and cents.
If Mao Mao got the ax, it must have not been doing all that great. It doesn't mean it's a bad show, but someone looked at the numbers knowing they needed to trim the fat and mao mao got the ax.
>Imagine thinking that a corporation would make decisions based on ideals.
Isn't that why Morbius was realesed to the theaters again and flopped, again? Becaus it was popular people on social medias startes memeing the movie.

There are lots of dumb reasons why shows get canceled regardless of whether it's a smart financial decision. One common reason is new people in charge of a network wanting to clear out all projects that were approved by their predecessors because they can't take credit for them. It's tautological to assume businesses always make the soundest financial decisions ergo any decision must necessarily have been financially sound. TV networks are run by people and people are often stupid, short-sighted, egotistical jackasses.
>and people are often stupid, short-sighted, egotistical jackasses
Especially people with more money than God. I'm sure OK K.O.! could've been saved despite premiering too soon to flourish on HBO Max, but the execs at the time must've somehow underestimated just how much money-making potential that series had. I really believed it'd Cartoon Network's next big hit after Adventure Time and Steven Universe, but it was gone in the blink of an eye. Those two years just zipped right past us.

Like Walt said; Adults are only kids grown up, anyway.
>One common reason is new people in charge of a network wanting to clear out all projects that were approved by their predecessors because they can't take credit for them
Naw. If a project was cleared out by a new person in charge it was not making good money. It might have been doing 'okay', but it wasn't banking.
Find me an example of a show that was going GANGBUSTERS that got cancelled just because the new CEO had a tiny pee pee. Notice that cash cows like Sponge Bob and Loud House are untouchable. The shows that some anons happen to like (Mao Mao, Glitch Techs, whatever) might have some draw and may not necessarily lose money, but on paper they aren't making enough money to make them safe. New execs don't particularly love the shows so they cut them.
Again, it all comes down to dollars and cents. If the show is doing 'okay' but isn't pulling in any money that would make it an outlier, it could conceivably be replaced with almost anything else and statistically do just as well. The shows that actually pull in a significant amount of views and money don't get touched.

>it could conceivably be replaced with almost anything else and statistically do just as well.
If new shows grew on fricking trees and you could pluck one at any time you might have a point.
In reality networks spend money developing and producing new shows, then mismanage them into the ground, then wonder why the frick they're losing all this money and try to stem the bleeding with more reruns of the same old shit.
Anonymous
yes, but you're conflating potential profit with actual profit.
I agree that many shows are squandered that COULD make more money, but the simple fact is that if it's not making money at the time it is a candidate for the chopping block.
>If new shows grew on fricking trees and you could pluck one at any time you might have a point.
The point is that networks are gambling for the next big hit. They aren't trying to water a seed to see what it grows into, they want to pop a quarter into the slot machine and let it rip.
New show ideas are abundant. I'm guessing you've never pitched anything, but for all the shitty #betterCartoon pitches you see out there, there are hundreds of actually decent ones that aren't posted online and will never see the light of day after failing to be successfully picked up. Some of those ideas are fricking fantastic and it sucks to see them get passed on for another idea that is obviously going to be a safer if not slightly more boring bet.

You guys are both correct but I think you're misunderstanding what he's saying. Yeah, networks are constantly trying to find the next big thing but that's just part of it. They're also managing how the channel/line up as a whole is run which can lead to massive switch-ups as they try to fit everything into whatever new idea they have in their heads. On top of that there is very much a degree of office politics and personal conflicts that can impact the success of a show, and weird dumb shit happens all the time regardless of how much money could be lost or gained. That's just the nature of business its all run by people at the end of the day and they can do wacky shit.
Not quite what that anon seemed to be getting at. Morbius getting a second chance in cinemas had nothing to do with having super progressive LGBT+ representation and winning praise for that. It was for the stuff you said.
Speaking of which, I hate how "ironic memeposting" is what gets a new show or movie to gain traction these days. The Bob's Burgers Movie was a super charming movie that I wish had performed better in theaters, but there just wasn't anything shocking enough or controversial enough to get people curious to see the film for themselves (or at least joke about it enough online to pique others' interest and get THEM to buy tickets). I love the movie, but it feels like I'm one of few who even knows it exists.
I'd wonder what overall movie attendance data looks like.
I'm lazy as shit and honestly don't go to the theaters very much. I did back in the 90's, but it also often too several YEARS for movies to come out on vhs or dvd and even then you saw an inferior version. These days movies come out on streaming almost as soon as they leave theaters and my home setup is good enough that I'd rather just wait to pirate or stream it. I'll save some money, I can drink or eat whatever I want, and I can pause the film to pee if I have to or rewind bits I missed (and subtitles are great because these days every film has the characters literally whispering incoherently and then explosions blow your fricking ears out).
>I hate how "ironic memeposting" is what gets a new show or movie to gain traction these days.
Seriously. This better be the only Pinocchio film this year that anyone talks about. Ironic memes are a POWERFUL marketing tool, and I think a lot of people tend to forget that. Show some support for a PROMISING movie for a change.
>Isn't that why Morbius was realesed to the theaters again and flopped, again?
It's still dollars and cents. They misinterpreted the memes as latent popularity and thought they could make a buck if they put it out again because maybe everyone just missed it the first time.
An idealistic reason to re-release it would have been if they had thought they had some sort of moral obligation to give people more access to it.
Anon, there are times a show is cancelled not because it didn’t perform well but because it didn’t fit their “vision” of the network that other shows had
Young Justice and Beavis & Butthead reboot come to mind
Naw, if they were making money they’d let it ride. Show that get cancelled for differences in creative vision are maintaining at best. Doesn’t mean they’re bad shows, but they aren’t as financially successful as /co would like to think.
I don't think you realize how petty and moronic executives are
There "vision" is BS. It doesn't matter how much you twist or turn things around, it all comes down to money.
Why is Netflix canceling its own animation? Becaus they only want to eater animate stuffs as cheap as possible and/or want known a show with high IP recognition.
Why is Owl House canned? Becaus gay/alphabet people arn't accepteable around the whole globe (China, Russia, South Arabia as examples) and can't be sold there.
Of course it comes down to that, everyone has different ways of thinking what's the best way to get there and that's why you butt heads. That's why there's many times new heads "clean sweep" anything from the prior era even if it's still performing well.
There's a reason executives have a massive turnover rate also
You’re talking out your ass because shows you liked got cancelled and ou’re oissed. I’m pissed about it too but again, no exec has cancelled SpongeBob or loud house out of pettiness. If these other shows were making good cash they’d also be safe. I think some cancellations have been short sighted, but on paper at that time they weren’t profitable enough to be protected.

Aqua Teen was cancelled explicitly because Lazzo didn't like the show anymore, not out of ratings or critical reception.
Mao's Maos ratings werent any worse than any other show airing at the time. In fact they were better than some shows like Craig of the Creek that are still getting shit out.

But seriously. I love Craig of the Creek and am happy to see a more chill episodic comedy get so much success in this day and age, but I also see right through CN's biases and why they'd give such a show far more support than any others (namely Mao Mao and OK K.O.!). It seems very apparent that the higher-ups want to pat themselves on the backs for nurturing a cartoon with an African American lead and plenty of cultural and queer representation. And while I'm happy to see audiences embrace that and celebrate episodes that feature Craig's family (some of my personal favorites) or casually show so many LGBT+ characters, it feels really disingenuous on CN's part since the fricking awful way they've been treating all their other current original cartoons validates my theory that the company's only in it for representation points.
I'm all for more cartoons that uplift underrepresented voices, but I also want cartoons with silly animal friends who battle giant monsters while exploring themes of familial trauma and redemption arcs that anyone can also relate to. Why can't we have both? They're all good!

I remember reading that Mao got the axe because CN decided to focus on toddler shows for a while, until they didn't, and Mao just had the bad luck to be airing right during that small timeframe.
What i want to know is why Parker hasn't said a thing. Are the details about cancelled shows under NDA? Is there a chance it might get its second season aired and he's staying silent hoping it could happen?
>What i want to know is why Parker hasn't said a thing
Airing grievances on social media is rarely a good idea. Most of the time the smart move is to keep your fricking mouth shut.
It's hard to say why he hasn't made a statement, but it could be that he simply accepts the turn of events and is moving on to the next thing.
And CN/WB should expect getting more questions for not making an official statement it got canned. I mean like Glitch Tech, I hope seeing a new season, someday.
>Did this cartoon really deserve to be cancelled so abruptly and silently?
Personally, I don't think it deserves it. Mao Mao turned out to be way more entertaining than I'd expected despite limiting itself to such a simplistic setting the entire first season. But the fact that practically everyone stopped talking about the show less than a year after it began its hiatus goes to show how little of a following it really amassed. That's not very good staying power compared to, say, Amphibia, which had a pretty lengthy hiatus between its first and second seasons yet still kept fans engaged all the while.
The way Cartoon Network's been handling Mao Mao has been absolutely disgraceful, but the fans are at least a little complicit for being so neglectful of the series, even after what happened to OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes. History really is repeating itself.
>show how little of a following it really amassed
Online fandoms means nothing now bro and constant discussion from them 100% DOES NOT indicate quality or how much people like something, at this point you need an underage girl protagonist and lgbt pandering like Amphibia to get any constant discussion
>the only constant "discussion" a cartoon can get on Cinemaphile is either pedo spam or /misc/ bait that everyone chooses to eat up
I fricking hate this place. Is it really that hard to just bond over fun cartoons?
>the only constant "discussion" a cartoon can get on Cinemaphile is either pedo spam or /misc/ bait that everyone chooses to eat up
you're forgetting the Cinemaphileomer threads in between seasons or after something stops being relevant and there isn't anything to talk about anymore
Mao Mao's biggest mistake was not having enough coombait to keep people engaged. Ramaraffe, Marion, and Tanya Keys are kind of all we have to work with, and that's just sad.
Furry coomer series don't work on Cinemaphile because mods delete any discussion that goes that way
And they were getting there, we would have seen the sisters

All of these have more staying power than Mao Mao, be it through companies wanting to pander to internet loud c**ts or being "marketable", a child would more likely want to get a Sprig or King (or Cricket) plush than a Mao Mao or Adorabat one, to support my theory I will mention that svtfoe for the most part was memorable because it served to fill the void left by Gravity Falls, Hell either that or Disney is just a better network for cartoons than CN - which is saying a lot about the whole industry when DTVA is infamously neglected in comparison to the bigger IPs such as Marvel or Star Wars.

Because Disney views TV animation as a lesser medium than feature animation. Can't blame them, honestly.

>a child would more likely want to get a Sprig or King (or Cricket) plush than a Mao Mao or Adorabat one
I refuse to believe that. I am confident that the same people—kids and adults alike—who gush about how cute Sprig and King are would've been just as open to buying Mao Mao/Badgerclops/Adorabat merch had the show been given more of a push. The sheriffs of Pure Heart are all adorable and easily marketable, just like Gumball.
>svtfoe for the most part was memorable because it served to fill the void left by Gravity Falls
I agree. I always felt Star vs was mad overrated, but I could see that it easily catered to those who missed Gravity Falls (as well as those who needed something to watch during Steven Universe's lengthy hiatuses). The show aired at the perfect time and was able to completely overshadow Wander Over Yonder, a cartoon I very much preferred. But to go back to your point, I'd argue Mao Mao fills the void left by OK K.O.!, which is why I find it weird that those who cried about that show's cancellation never even mention Parker Simmons's cartoon. Mao Mao also has the perfect blend of SU's lore with Teen Titans Go!'s goofy one-off misadventures starring epic heroes who simultaneously do relatable shit like eating pizza or playing video games. In an ideal timeline, Mao Mao would be the new face of Cartoon Network.

>I'd argue Mao Mao fills the void left by OK K.O.!
Let me ask you this, who misses OK KO? Not CN suits that's for sure, not the target audience since the network has many other shows catering to them, not adults given there are just better shows that started releasing around that time and the only strong point of OK KO was that it was a nostalgic throwback; no one gave a shit about the show hence why it was cancelled while Mao Mao was caught up in a merge and a global pandemic.
Anonymous
>no one gave a shit about OK K.O.!
Now that's a lie. Plenty of people were fans of the show and would sing its praises back when it was still airing. This was Ian JQ's baby and tons of animation fans who knew him from SU followed to see the show he had to offer, falling in love with the main heroes and villains in the process. The love and mountains of fan art came not just from nostalgiabait but also from truly engaging characters, and even more engaging dynamics & relationships among them all (both romantic and platonic). Even Enid's romance with Red Action felt like a huge deal since it wasn't some LGBT+ ship that'd been saved for the very last second. Same for Voxman.
People were distraught when a series cancellation was confirmed just a little more than a year after OK K.O.! had premiered. My theory is the only reason there wasn't as big of a campaign to save the show at the time was because unlike Infinity Train, OK K.O.! was given just a bit more extra time to wrap up all its main loose ends and leave viewers with a feeling of closure. No cliffhanger meant this cancellation was easier to swallow.
The show could've been big, but similar to Mao Mao, it was a victim of unfortunate timing since it came during a transitionary period for Cartoon Network; they were doing a lot more experimenting with binge release drops on their shitty CN App that only Cable TV subscribers could really benefit from as opposed to the delayed HBO Max streaming service the show could've really thrived on. I still say Mao Mao has slightly better luck since its entire first season went to streaming relatively quickly, but the show just hasn't amassed as big of a following as OK K.O.! did. Disney's teen girl isekai lore dramas are completely outshining a goofier action-comedy starring anthropomorphic animal sheriffs, whereas OK K.O.!'s only real competition at the time was Star vs.

Just getting a hint at even one of the sisters' personality would've done wonders for coomers. Season 1 gave us literal scraps that not even furries could work with. You'd be surprised how much influence furry artists have on a cartoon's popularity these days, and Mao Mao's S1 writers clearly missed the mark.
>"It's the fans' fault because they didn't stay sufficiently engaged when given nothing to work with."
Bullshit. Mao Mao barely even got fricking reruns. Fanbases can't will a show to succeed when a network is doing everything it can to make it fail.
Reruns, shmemuns. We're in the age of streaming now, and all of Season 1 has been available on HBO Max since 2020. THOSE analytics are playing a bigger and bigger part in a network's overall view of a show's success, which explains why they're now doing "next day on HBO Max" releases as opposed to waiting months to share new episodes for those without Cable television. Fan art also plays a minor part, and the amount of Mao Mao fan art I've seen on a regular basis has been laughable compared to Disney's two tentpole cartoons these last 2-3 years.
You can argue fans are "given nothing to work with," yet the campaign to revive Infinity Train still rings strong despite the show having been on indefinite hiatus nearly all of its run AND amounting to as many episodes as Mao Mao. I'm done cutting the fans any slack. They haven't been fighting enough to make their voices heard.
Pretty much nothing trumps executive whims, you could dump 10 trucks of fan art in front of the CN HQ while the show is the most streamed series on HBO Max by far and it's still remained cancelled if the exec that pulled the plug remained
Infinity Train, too. Both shows have had the exact same number of episodes released since April 2021, yet IT knocks Mao Mao out of the water in terms of online fan engagement. The fight for more Mao Mao pales in comparison to the fight for more Infinity Train.
>But the fact that practically everyone stopped talking about the show less than a year after it began its hiatus goes to show how little of a following it really amassed.
why do you keep insisiting that the fanbase abandoned the show? There is a new piece of fan art uploaded every single day. The #FreeMaoMao hashtag got 10k tweets last month and another 5k this month. You have to literally be living under a rock to ignore this.
Guess I'm either following the wrong people on social media, or the algorithms hate me. All I tend to see is Amphibia and Owl House getting stuffed down my throat. Even Molly McGee doesn't get much love from my perspective and it JUST came back with new episodes.
I abandoned it a few months ago. Drew fanart, b***hed about CN's mistreatment, it's been nearly two years and CN still won't confirm that it's cancelled.
How long can one expect fans to hold on for? You just get tired, man.
I used to think it would come eventually since Cartoon Network's official Season 2 announcement basically PROMISED US new episodes, but it seems more likely that Mao Mao was cancelled mid-production à la Glitch Techs, meaning several finished animatics were drawn, voiced, and edited together before CN cut the whole operation.
The only way I'll make peace with this likely cancellation would be if Warner fricking owned up to it and just fricking told it to us straight that they cancelled such a great show. I'd rather be told directly that a show I enjoyed is officially cancelled instead of being dragged along with false hope because I'm being left in the dark. I thought Apple & Onion still had four more episodes to air until I found out in a casual Tweet from the series creator that "the complete series is now available on HBO Max" months later. The studio heads in charge of marketing are fricking evil for this type of shit. JUST ADMIT TO ENDING A SHOW INSTEAD OF MAKING US FEEL STUPID FOR THINKING THERE'S STILL MORE TO COME.
Mao Mao S1 is likely all we're getting, and CN is getting away with lying to us all because the show sadly is so obscure and forgotten by most people.
The pic is about a season 3 but you never got the 2? How does that work?

Glitch Techs produced a 20-episode first season for Nick that was then split in two once the show was sold over to Netflix. Halving seasons that way has become common practice for streaming services, usually as a way of pretending "there's more of a show to enjoy" without giving the artists and writers a raise for producing ACTUAL additional seasons. This controversy blew to the surface around the time The Cuphead Show! dropped its first batch of episodes a few months back.
All this to say, Glitch Techs Season 1 encompasses all 20 episodes that made it across the finish line, while Season 2 was cancelled mid-production, making it so that the team was able to board about 10 full animatics before getting laid off abruptly. Those animatics will never see the light of day now.

Since your episodes are 20 minutes each, I guess that means you got the same amount as Mo Mao then.
I really think it was cancelled purely because it fell between the cracks during the merge, apart from that one time someone who claimed to be a worker Titmouse made a rough mock-up of Raegan (Inside Job) to prove they were an insider before saying Mao Mao was cancelled for good, there really wasn't a definitive announcement of it being cancelled, Mao Mao was a great show and - I say this from assumption, I don't have ~le numbers - it wasn't a particularly disliked show, Hell unless it was too expensive to produce compared with Craig of the Creek or TTGO or whatever CN shows are still being made instead of constantl re-runned.
>crossed the line
Teen Titans Go! can be pretty funny, but sometimes it does shit that legit makes me wonder how the show hasn't been cancelled for getting so depraved.
I'm surprised that Parker didn't know better than to pitch it to CN after seeing how they've treated everything else they've made, especially from Titmouse.
What else has Titmouse done for Cartoon Network? I thought Mao Mao was their first collaboration with the network, making it one of CN's more experimental ventures. In fact, I'm pretty sure Mao Mao was more of a Titmouse project than a Cartoon Network Studios project.
>I'm surprised that Parker didn't know better than to pitch it to CN
It's rare that a creator gets to choose the network they WANT to work with. "Choosing" a network is not like picking a sandwich from a menu. Pitches often take years to put together (during hours off from an already full-time job). Then you need to hit your network in an attempt to get an actual meeting to show your work. If even one of the networks from the small selection that you can actually talk to shows interest, that's a pretty big deal. The choice often comes down to either working with whoever wants to do it, or trashing all the time, effort, and often money that you spent getting that far.
Owl House trends on Twitter all the time yet it still got cancelled. I'm sure Twitter is important in determining the success of shows, but not nearly as important as other factors, some beyond the show's control. OK K.O., for example, literally got cancelled for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
It's funny that the last footage we saw of the show was Badgerclops mind-controlling Mao Mao, so until further notice that's just how the characters are living right now.
It came in on thr tail end of their last wave. CN mishandled it almost as if it was an afterthought when their mind was already made up to phase out shows like it.
I dont remember how I found him in the first place, but some guy on Twitter had them a long time ago but they were low quality so I just left them alone until recently when I found a reason to edit them into higher quality.
People sell ideology’s when they think they’ll sell I know I see a lot of rainbow shit this time of years cause aids flavored Oreos are in style
You say this jokingly but Cinemaphile wouldve loved and spammed the frick out of this show if Mao Mao and Badgerclops were underage lesbians. It'd be on season 4 by now.
The thing is, shows like Steven Universe and Owl House and sort-of Amphibia may be full of gay characters (or gay shipping in Amphibias case) but they don't actually capture much of a gay audience. They're all for straight males who sexualize them.
The whole cast is great, but Parker Simmons's range really is impressive. Feels even better to know he's buds with Jackson Publick. Both are killer at what they do.
It was the last show of it's kind that happened to have been given a full season while CN was on the verge of restructuring. They gave it a season 2 prematurely; covid happened and it got delayed just in time pass the point of no return with CN's new child friendly business model.
Yeah this show was really good. I would've at least liked to see its story wrapped up or the sisters met at least once. Parkers tantrum over the leaks was embarrassing but that just seemed like residual from being assraped by CN
It was the one of the rare few shows that consistently got a laugh at me, Simmons' sense of humor just jells with me maybe because he was a former Newgrounds guy.
Someone can explain to me why they do this?
Sure, if they made reruns and earned money from the IP I can then understand. But just sit on the IP doing nothing with it, I don't get it. Especially cartoon pilots.
They spent money developing it and want to retain the right to continue banking on it in the future or sell it to another network for the right price. If Simmons was mega rich it’s possible he could buy it back himself but the reality is there’s no way he can afford it.
I can't think of a single situation when a creator bought the rights to their show back, but shows get sold or licensed to other networks all the time. That's why you see shows on one streaming network one second, then on another at a different time.
LONG AGO IN A DISTANT LAND, I MAO MAO, MASTER the shape shifting master of darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil. But a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in time, and flung him into the future where my evil is law.

Parker would unironically make good money with a porn patreon, but he has a wife and young daughter. He can't do it.
Running a successful patreon is a specific skill. It often requires that you actually talk directly with your fans both on twitter as well as private discords etc. Fans can REALLY suck to talk to, especially when they're socially maladjusted and start to feel entitled to your attention because they pay you $20 a month.
I can understand why a good artist would rather not do that especially when they can pick up work here and there on other perople's shows.
Hands down the most enjoyable modern CN show sucks it had to go because they wouldn't bother shilling for it like they did Teen Titans Goy or Steven israeliteniverse
No it did not. This is why it should be a standard practice to immediately fire and hardcore blacklist anyone on the production team who violates their NDA just for stupid Twitter likes.
Shows are rarely announced as being cancelled. There's nothing to be gained by doing that. They just don't announce a new season and let it fade into the æther.
They’d probably be sitting down in a pub toasting to a glass of milk while boasting about their adventures and heroism with Mao Mao over exaggerating to appear more grand in front of Puss.
That's been the most interesting/maddening thing about it all. You've got almost complete radio silence on this yet on the other hand you've got Olan Rogers out there STILL trying to get another season/movie for Final Space.
I really don't think so. This was one of CN's best modern shows.
No
Yes
I think the plots were getting a little too repetitive.
I'd say it's THE best in recent years. Not every episode was a gem (Fly Away, Sick Mao, Scared of Puppets) but the average episode was way better than the average episode of any other cartoon that was airing at the time. And now.
Sick Mao at least had the G Gundam reference at the end
yeah
I heard all executives for Disney's television animation around in 2018 are all gone
It really is a few years until they move out
Apparently, it's chaotic there to. Non-stop changes.
>they only canned it because it didn't fit their tumblr shit
Imagine thinking that a corporation would make decisions based on ideals.
Shows are a commodity. If they bring money in, they stay. If they lose money, they die. On very rare occasions an exec might decide to keep a show on life support to artificially keep the heart beating if it's something they're particularly keen on, but most decisions come down to dollars and cents.
If Mao Mao got the ax, it must have not been doing all that great. It doesn't mean it's a bad show, but someone looked at the numbers knowing they needed to trim the fat and mao mao got the ax.
>but most decisions come down to dollars and cents
>Imagine thinking that a corporation would make decisions based on ideals.
Isn't that why Morbius was realesed to the theaters again and flopped, again? Becaus it was popular people on social medias startes memeing the movie.
Sony misinterpreted people dunking on the movie as renewed genuine interest. It was a pure business decision, just a bad one made by idiots.
That said I also don't fully agree with:
*I really believed it'd be Cartoon Network's next big hit
I NEED Carol to sit on my face
And… it never did
OK KO was too ugly to look at for me. Mao Mao was a treat.
I miss K.O. like you wouldn't believe
>TV networks are run by people and people are often stupid, short-sighted, egotistical jackasses.
In reality networks spend money developing and producing new shows, then mismanage them into the ground, then wonder why the frick they're losing all this money and try to stem the bleeding with more reruns of the same old shit.
yes, but you're conflating potential profit with actual profit.
I know that feel. You get one comfy thread and it's over.
I don't think you realize how petty and moronic executives are
Of course it comes down to that, everyone has different ways of thinking what's the best way to get there and that's why you butt heads.
Wrong type of black protagonist
I did notice the usual Youtubers struggled to virtue signal this show outside of a select few episodes.
Lol
>I love Craig of the Creek
How
I rather have a woke but comedy / slice and life type show that I can actually see and understand kids getting into, (Like Craig and Big City Green)
Then those boring as frick "story driven" sad lesbian fests
No one like COTC for the show lol
Craig and the other shows were probably doing better in the kids demographics, which are the only demos CN cares about.
Kids don’t watch CN anymore. No kid I know has seen Craig of the creek and I watch them for a living they like Pokémon fortnite super hero’s dinosaurs robots and youtubers. Only people who watch Craig of the creek are adult women and zirs. Show is ugly as fricking shit and boring.
rent free
What is rent free? The show sucks ass kids don’t watch it and it has less views than gay black cat and his bear husband raising an adopted bat. I know you’re not allowed near children unless you’re reading in drag at the library but it is what it is. Show sucks live action sucks the gay cat was alright
People sell ideology’s when they think they’ll sell I know I see a lot of rainbow shit this time of years cause aids flavored Oreos are in style
I wish Cartoon Network would stop ignoring it's fans. They are actively deleting comments on their social media asking about this show.
And CN/WB should expect getting more questions for not making an official statement it got canned. I mean like Glitch Tech, I hope seeing a new season, someday.
Perhaps
Somewhat
Mao Mao's biggest mistake was not having enough coombait to keep people engaged. Ramaraffe, Marion, and Tanya Keys are kind of all we have to work with, and that's just sad.
Furry coomer series don't work on Cinemaphile because mods delete any discussion that goes that way
And they were getting there, we would have seen the sisters
What did The Bad Guys do right then? It's the most popular new DreamWorks film in YEARS, and that applies even outside of Cinemaphile. I still don't get why furries who share SFW pics here are vilified by the powers that be, meanwhile Amphibia, Owl House, and Molly McGee threads are free to run rampant with pedo shit at all times. One is objectively worse than the other and that shouldn't be a question. Mao Mao def would've benefited from teasing the sisters just a little more by the end of Season 1. God, my dick was so ready…
All of these have more staying power than Mao Mao, be it through companies wanting to pander to internet loud c**ts or being "marketable", a child would more likely want to get a Sprig or King (or Cricket) plush than a Mao Mao or Adorabat one, to support my theory I will mention that svtfoe for the most part was memorable because it served to fill the void left by Gravity Falls, Hell either that or Disney is just a better network for cartoons than CN - which is saying a lot about the whole industry when DTVA is infamously neglected in comparison to the bigger IPs such as Marvel or Star Wars.
>which is saying a lot about the whole industry when DTVA is infamously neglected in comparison to the bigger IPs such as Marvel or Star Wars.
Not CN suits that's for sure, not the target audience since the network has many other shows catering to them, not adults given there are just better shows that started releasing around that time and the only strong point of OK KO was that it was a nostalgic throwback; no one gave a shit about the show hence why it was cancelled while Mao Mao was caught up in a merge and a global pandemic.
>no one gave a shit about OK K.O.!
I still say Mao Mao has slightly better luck since its entire first season went to streaming relatively quickly, but the show just hasn't amassed as big of a following as OK K.O.! did. Disney's teen girl isekai lore dramas are completely outshining a goofier action-comedy starring anthropomorphic animal sheriffs, whereas OK K.O.!'s only real competition at the time was Star vs.
>who misses OK KO?
Me.
>not adults
Says you, the person who doesn't even like the show? OK KO fans are still producing content to this day.
>and the only strong point of OK KO was that it was a nostalgic throwback
Another awful take, OK KO's plotlines, character arcs and especially the music were all stellar, it was a cartoon made by someone who loved the medium and the culture surrounding it and wore its pride on its sleeve.
That other anon is right, Mao Mao and OK KO were both quality shows that could have easily ushered in a new era of CN but instead were shitcanned far too early.
>OK KO fans are still producing content to this day.
Really? Where? It's been getting harder and harder to find OK K.O.! content ever since I bailed on Tumblr.
Twitter and Tumblr. There's also an international fanbase if you can believe it, my girlfriend ordered an OK KO japanese doujin centered on the Boxmore crew.
>What did The Bad Guys do right then?
furry bait AND ginormous fujo bait
also, holy frick this captcha
Hahahah.
Man, the universe is funny.
TBG had this cutie.
>cutie
*gas bomb
He wouldnt do that around me because he loves me.
He would do that around you because he loves you.
Just getting a hint at even one of the sisters' personality would've done wonders for coomers. Season 1 gave us literal scraps that not even furries could work with. You'd be surprised how much influence furry artists have on a cartoon's popularity these days, and Mao Mao's S1 writers clearly missed the mark.
https://twitter.com/parkerrsimmons/status/1259534935817248768
>Mao Mao's sisters all have faces under those shadows. No they don't all just have MM's face.
the faces in question
YO??
>Birchyfunbags
>Ramaraffe, Marion, and Tanya Keys are kind of all we have to work with
if you're a straightgay
>AND amounting to as many episodes as Mao Mao
Mao Mao episodes are short, anon.
That's a cute ass mug. Where'd you get it?
CN’s Invader Zim.
That was Robotomy but I appreciate the idea
I guess we'll have to wait a decade for that Mao Mao Movie then
>it's a time travel episode
adroabat is excited to see mao mao and baderclops again mao mao excited cause now he gets two swords
>cat lmaos at 2 swords
Yeah because it still wasn’t violent enough for older boys
None of you are asking the most important question: Where the frick is the rest of season 2?
I’m still mad
Least you got a season 2.
Mao Mao is one the few cartoons to never even make it past season 1.
>Least you got a season 2
Yep. That's the other thing I forgot to mention.
Wait, it got official confirmation? I thought Glitch Tech was in the exact same position as Mao Mao!
I miss Mao Mao.
I really think it was cancelled purely because it fell between the cracks during the merge, apart from that one time someone who claimed to be a worker Titmouse made a rough mock-up of Raegan (Inside Job) to prove they were an insider before saying Mao Mao was cancelled for good, there really wasn't a definitive announcement of it being cancelled, Mao Mao was a great show and - I say this from assumption, I don't have ~le numbers - it wasn't a particularly disliked show, Hell unless it was too expensive to produce compared with Craig of the Creek or TTGO or whatever CN shows are still being made instead of constantl re-runned.
the nose vore was when they crossed the line and the show had to be stopped
>crossed the line
Teen Titans Go! can be pretty funny, but sometimes it does shit that legit makes me wonder how the show hasn't been cancelled for getting so depraved.
Absolutely not. It was too good.
CN didn't deserve this series.
Let's pretend the show will come back: what are your hopes for season 2?
Many, many boners directed at Mao Mao's sisters.
if there were a season 2
I expect that at least two if not all of Mao Mao's sisters will turn out to be lesbians
I really liked Mao Mao. One of my more favorable shows in recent history.
Same here. So much potential.
I quite liked the mammal version of Darkwing Duck
Mao Mao was the only cartoon left which gave me hope and CN didn't even have the decency to give it a proper burial. I want to fricking die
>and CN didn't even have the decency to give it a proper burial
This is what hurts me the most. SAY IT'S CANCELLED ALREADY, YOU COWARDS.
MAO MAO NEVER EXISTED IT WAS A DREAM NOW STOP TALKING ABOUT IT
>mr simmons why is your show not selling merch
>well because you haven't let us made merch yet
>no merch, no show, goodbye simmons
>#freemaomao has trended twice
>Cartoon Network still won't achknowledge the shows existence
The frick is wrong with them
Why is Adorabat soo menacingly here?
It's them big ol' eyes
>Show meant for males
>Straight male protagonist
>Not racial coded
You know what's wrong with them
Owl House trends on Twitter all the time yet it still got cancelled. I'm sure Twitter is important in determining the success of shows, but not nearly as important as other factors, some beyond the show's control. OK K.O., for example, literally got cancelled for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I miss Bao Bao.
I miss when that one drawgay drew art of him.
I miss Badgerclops
>Shoverclops
No straight man does this.
I mean if you had a butt that jiggled so nicely would you waste it on women
Confirmed heterosexual and friends only with Mao Mao by Parker years back on Tumblr
If you wanna get technical about it he only confirmed they're not dating each other.
Nope, he specifically mentions that they're just good friends, you're just a delusional homosexual
>Nope
>Except yes
Only friends, u homosexual
Read my post again kid.
Well duh, that's what i meant so i don't see you thinking BC is a gay, most likely metrosexual by the looks of it but thats it
It shall return mmhm
It's funny that the last footage we saw of the show was Badgerclops mind-controlling Mao Mao, so until further notice that's just how the characters are living right now.
Could be cancelled but its still airing in my heart
What do you guys think about the character designs in this show? Too calartsy?
It was a good balance.
It came in on thr tail end of their last wave. CN mishandled it almost as if it was an afterthought when their mind was already made up to phase out shows like it.
fantastic for the protags/antags but the townies range from neat to why
> Too calartsy?
Kys
I enjoy them very much.
It works better with anthro characters than it does with humanoid characters.
No.
Why does CN hate this show?
They refused to make Mao bi
>WATCH ME! WATCH ME!
Does anyone want a few Japanese Mao Mao episodes?
I spent time editing them for somebody who probably will end up not even wanting them, so I need to do something with them.
>Does anyone want a few Japanese Mao Mao episodes?
Sure. Thanks for actually obtaining a few.
Alright sure.
https://mega.nz/file/kQwEnAya#OU583-92mP0KPBKNIr1vpB3B2tufxQX49GiPhv5JDfI
Thanks a bunch. How did you even obtain them to begin with, considering Jap CN's usually pretty stringent with their stuff iir.
I dont remember how I found him in the first place, but some guy on Twitter had them a long time ago but they were low quality so I just left them alone until recently when I found a reason to edit them into higher quality.
>Weeb Mao Mao
Looks like I’m gonna have to check these out.
IN JAPANESE?
No but it wasn’t gay enough even with two men living together and it didn’t have ugly peoples like Craig or the creek
You say this jokingly but Cinemaphile wouldve loved and spammed the frick out of this show if Mao Mao and Badgerclops were underage lesbians. It'd be on season 4 by now.
That depends on whether or not CN still treats the how by gar-b***h then.
>show like*
Pretty much shows nowadays needs to be at least as gat Steven Universe to survive.
Explain this then.
The thing is, shows like Steven Universe and Owl House and sort-of Amphibia may be full of gay characters (or gay shipping in Amphibias case) but they don't actually capture much of a gay audience. They're all for straight males who sexualize them.
Who do you think are the best voice actors in this show?
Obviously Parker.
The whole cast is great, but Parker Simmons's range really is impressive. Feels even better to know he's buds with Jackson Publick. Both are killer at what they do.
Too bad. This show was entertaining and had potential.
Did it get bad ratings or something?
It was the last show of it's kind that happened to have been given a full season while CN was on the verge of restructuring. They gave it a season 2 prematurely; covid happened and it got delayed just in time pass the point of no return with CN's new child friendly business model.
No, CN is just run by idiots.
>I LOVE YOUUUUUUU, I LOVE YOU, MAO MAAAO
Badgerclops can't love Mao Mao. Mao Mao is too mean. Doesn't let Badgerclops sit there and play video games all day. Disgusting.
TM-ANON TRIED TO WARN YOU, BUT YOU DIDN'T BELIEVE HIM! WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME
>mfw CN
You made me giggle, anon. Thanks for making my day just a little bit brighter. Frick CN.
Aren't those just Parker and Griffith cosplaying their characters?
More or less yeah
Love that scene
Kind of? The characters were cute but also annoying
Cute
>I LOVE PUPPIES, KITTENS AND CUPCAKES!
Yeah this show was really good. I would've at least liked to see its story wrapped up or the sisters met at least once. Parkers tantrum over the leaks was embarrassing but that just seemed like residual from being assraped by CN
Some other anon said that the leaks are why CN cancelled the show. Didnt provide any actual evidence of that though.
she scares me
Was this made before Badger's later kid design debuted?
I just miss the /trash/ generals
They lasted a pretty long time for 1 season.
Maybe?
I don't know
Mao Mao's so cute. I love cats.
Mao Mao is indeed very cute. Makes Cartoon Network's shitty treatment toward him that much more painful.
It was the one of the rare few shows that consistently got a laugh at me, Simmons' sense of humor just jells with me maybe because he was a former Newgrounds guy.
Is Cartoon Network seriously gonna start focusing on live-action shows?
I think theyre getting tired of trying to find a cartoon that gets the same ratings as TTGo.
What a rotund fella
Round has one less letter.
Round, rotund, same difference.
It sucks that CN won't continue the show, but also won't give the creator the rights to it back.
How often would you say those scenarios actually happen? Like, when it's been at least a few years after a show was first picked up?
I can't think of a single situation when a creator bought the rights to their show back, but shows get sold or licensed to other networks all the time. That's why you see shows on one streaming network one second, then on another at a different time.
I wonder how popular Mao Mao is in Japan.
It's honestly a fricking shame that one of the best cartoons on CN had to be canceled like this. We never even got to see his sisters.
cartoon network sucks dick n balls
>Mao Mao working on other shows
MAO MAO IS A HERO NOT A BURGLAR HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT ME
Whatever you say, mittens. 😉
Times have been hard for Mao Mao, he grabs what he can get.
Mao Mao is a prostitute since his show ended
For human men only.
Why do none of these popular cartoonists even bother making a Patreon? Are they mentally moronic?
https://twitter.com/parkerrsimmons/status/1536453938995597313
Parker would unironically make good money with a porn patreon, but he has a wife and young daughter. He can't do it.
Would.
That could be a male for all you know.
Did I stutter? Still would.
Anon you're in the Mao Mao thread everyone here is a homosexual furry
I want to FRICK buff Bao Bao.
>contessa
female
Running a successful patreon is a specific skill. It often requires that you actually talk directly with your fans both on twitter as well as private discords etc. Fans can REALLY suck to talk to, especially when they're socially maladjusted and start to feel entitled to your attention because they pay you $20 a month.
I can understand why a good artist would rather not do that especially when they can pick up work here and there on other perople's shows.
>MAO MAO IS A HERO NOT A BURGLAR
Burglar.
TURD burglar.
Badgerclops!?!?!
I got yer Badgerclops right here
Badgerclops is such a gigantic homosexual I love him.
>this will never be solved
Hands down the most enjoyable modern CN show sucks it had to go because they wouldn't bother shilling for it like they did Teen Titans Goy or Steven israeliteniverse
>Did this cartoon really deserve to be cancelled so abruptly and silently?
They angered the israelites, what other out come could there be
AHahahahahahahHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This will always be my favorite episode because it references this.
Shit like this is why Mao Mao was too good for shitty CN, god damn that episode was funny and how much it just tears into their target
R.I.P. MMHoPH.
No it did not. This is why it should be a standard practice to immediately fire and hardcore blacklist anyone on the production team who violates their NDA just for stupid Twitter likes.
as long as they dont confirm its cancelled i have hope.
Shows are rarely announced as being cancelled. There's nothing to be gained by doing that. They just don't announce a new season and let it fade into the æther.
gay
nice
>thread died already
I actually had an answer too.
Ooh I like this one. Who's it by?
I wouldn't mind a more expressive art style with techno instead of rock.
vore
Does Adorabat have sociopathic tendencies? Sometimes she acts rather psycho.
Bro even her own dad is afraid of her.
everyone in this show has mental issues
might as well ask if mao mao has daddy issues
Any doujinshi yet of this show?
I remember seeing a cover of Japanese mao mao hentai but I forgot to save the image
We won't get Mao Mao or any other cool projects from this creator.
dead show dead fandom
Its been 2 years since the last episode.
He doesn't allow touch.
unfortunately
Didn't say I wouldn't do it anyway.
Who's your favourite character, guys?
Ratarang being a close second.
Badgerclops of course!
When CN knows it has some kino on its plate they will barely promote it.
And then cancel it.
I think even they are afraid of successful shows outstaying their welcome.
That was canned due to being expensive to produce and hard to market to other countries
I wonder what interactions between Mao Mao and Puss in Boots would be like.
They’d probably be sitting down in a pub toasting to a glass of milk while boasting about their adventures and heroism with Mao Mao over exaggerating to appear more grand in front of Puss.
Well, Cartoon Network is ignoring and blocking people who comment #freemaomao on their social media. Probably not a good sign.
Only on Instagram, not on Twitter. So stick with that I guess.
Any good westaboo artists for this?
There used to be a really good drawgay in these threads. Unfortunately the janitors did not like him for whatever stupid ass reason so he bailed.
nice
So, Mao and Tanya were definitely romantically involved, right?
Yes, her greatest heist was stealing Mao Mao's v card.
It's more up to the viewer to decide, but I like to think they are exes. Makes it far more interesting
It's more up to the viewer to decide, but I like to think they are exes.
Wasn't that vaguely implied?
What's your favorite episode?
Tanya will be the last great televised waifur
>handholding
This is a public imageboard
Geez, you could at least spoiler something like that.
I don't know about that but she will be the last great THICC one
Grumpy kitty.
cursed art
>they/them/it shit
>posting nix
wasted trips
Yikes.
would
Nix is such a monkeys paw.
I just wish theyd say something, whether its Parker or CN.
That's been the most interesting/maddening thing about it all. You've got almost complete radio silence on this yet on the other hand you've got Olan Rogers out there STILL trying to get another season/movie for Final Space.
